- Linda (10/5): Bank Holiday weekend - We had such a fantastic stay this weekend, perfect location.
The hosts are simply wonderful, lovely little pub, great atmosphere and the meals are sooo good, including breakfast which were insanely good!
We'll definitely be back and will recommend The George for our friends and family to stay!
- Arthur (10/5): - Friendly welcome, comfy room, good food
- Laurana (10/5): Excellent! Value for money! - From arrival the staff were friendly and helpful, asked if we wanted help with our bags, took breakfast order night before which meant when we went for breakfast there was no waoting around, the breakfast itself was lovely! Room was in keeping with the local aesthetic, but modern and well kept. Can't fault the place at all!
- M E (10/5): Good value inn in village setting - We had an overnight stay at The George on our way home from holiday and it was ideally located just off the M6.
The owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly and we had a very nice evening meal and an excellent breakfast.
The room was a little old fashioned, but was clean and comfortable.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent value for money. Pleasant, helpful hosts - Solo overnight stay. Nice welcome by hosts after a long journey. Room was big and airy, bed very comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast were lovely. There is an attached beer garden and the breeze in the evening was most appreciated, especially after the long hot journey. Felt comfortable throughout my stay
Hope to book again on my return trip back to Scotland.
- Michelle (10/5): - Charming accommodations above the pub in the tiny village of Orton. Very scenic English farming community. Room was clean and spacious. Easy to access off M6 but felt very remote. Owners were very gracious and welcoming.
- Garet (10/5): We loved our one short night here - The inn keepers were so great. So kind and accommodating. The breakfast was 5 ⭐️. The location was wonderful out in the country and quiet. It’s an older hotel which is part of its appeal. Rooms are comfortable and they had great pillows.
- Garet (10/5): - The most amazing small hotel. They only have a few rooms and our group used 5 of the 6 rooms. So accommodating. We showed up late and left fairly early. Hosts were the absolute best. They checked us in and cooked us breakfast. All I can say is wow!
- Jennifer (10/5): - We LOVED our stay here! The owners were friendly, the place was in a beautiful area! The room was comfortable, clean, quiet! It was truly perfect! Dinner and breakfast were fantastic! If we are ever in this area again, we will be back!
- john (10/5): - Very friendly hotel, great food and very clean
- David (10/5): Great Hotel in a quiet location. - Brilliant stay with great hosts. The room was clean, evening meal was very nice and the breakfast was good. The location is just off the M6 but without the noise of the motorway. I will definitely stay again when I’m next in the area.
- Amith (10/5): - Lovely hospitality and great food.
- Chris (6/5): Disappointing stay. - Our room was at the top of the hotel which required climbing 4 flights of narrow stairs. Our room was very cold with hardly any heating. However, the bed was comfortable and the food - dinner and breakfast - was superb. The location was very convenient being close to the M6.
- Sean (10/5): - Lovely stop over in a big comfortable room , breakfast was brilliant all fresh locally sourced , stay again in a heartbeat
- Amith (10/5): - Excellent stay. People are extremely friendly and the food was fantastic. It’s a bit out of the way but if you have time, it’s a lovely place to stay.
- Richard (10/5): Just off the M6 diamond hotel! - It's an old building so there are limits to structural mods, but it's clean and comfortable and everyone is so very friendly and welcoming. Andy, the Landlord has a wry humour and is great fun. Food is excellent and service superb. Well supported pub by the village locals and the friendly banter between staff and locals is a joy to listen to. Well kept beers too! The breakfast is a substantial start to the day. Highly recommended.

- Lawrence (10/5): Orion odyssey - A stop over on way from Edinburgh to south coast. A chance booking but a gem of a find. Popular with walkers on east west pennines way who are happy to chat and exchange experiences. Helpful host and staff, good british food and fascinating little village to explore. Well worth a visit- we will certainly be back.’
- Iain Stewart (8/5): - Friendly country hotel in a pretty village

- christopher (10/5): - Lovely stay. Food and beer excellent. Friendly hosts will help come back again in autumn.
- Ann (10/5): - Andy and Rhona were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our room was very large and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, as were the
sandwiches had for our packed lunch.
- James (10/5): Fantastic place - Lovely hosts, great breakfast, breathtaking location. Close to local walks and quiet but very convenient for the M6.
- James (10/5): - Very friendly
- Jamie (8/5): - Friendly, comfortable country pub/hotel. Good food and helpful staff.
- Mark (8/5): A welcoming village pub - We had a huge room above the bar with a wonderful view across the fields opposite, and an enormous, comfortable double bed. There were also two singles in the room, a sofa and an armchair, and still plenty of space. We had our evening meal in the bar and it was generous and tasty, after which we aat drinking and chatting to the locals. Then a full cooked breakfast in the morning set us up for the day. I couldn't wish for more in an overnight stop.
- Theresa (10/5): Warm and welcoming and the perfect place to stay. - We found the George Hotel to be very warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Btonagh and Andy were brilliant hosts who really looked after us making sure we had everything we needed. The food was really good and was always served with a lovely smile from Anna.
- Ricardo (2/5): - This reservation was a joke. When we arrived no one was available to let us in. Plus the hotel never responded to reimburse us.
Also at fault Expedia, who has not followed up with hotel to process a refund. Bad experience.
- Michael (8/5): Very satisfied - Everything a good pub should be and offer, all with a smile.
- andrew (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay. - We spent one night at the george. Staff were excellent we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much for them. Good honest tasty pub food. The locals made us welcome for a few drinks in the bar after dinner. Overall i would recommend this inn for a comfortable and welcoming stay.
- Bob (10/5): Room with a view of? - Kind, friendly, obliging hosts. Food was from a reasonably standard pub menu, served hot and very tasty. Advisable to book, something that 'walk in customers' don't seem to appreciate
- david (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Very rustic and cosy pub/ hotel in a stunning location. Excellent food including a delicious hearty breakfast.
Very friendly and helpful proprietor who went out of his way to make us feel at home.
- Bob (10/5): Orton, on the road to everywhere - Nice hotel, nice hosts, nice food & nice price, located near to the function I was to attend the following day and most importantly, I will stay there again. Great chocolate shop across the road.
- Philip (10/5): - Just incredible, friendly service and a wonderful location in the fella and on the coast to coast route
- Catherine (10/5): One night stopover - Highly recommend. Welcoming. Good food. Good company. Ate in the bar. Lovely cloudy cider. Will definitely be using again.
- Louise (10/5): Royal Hotel, Front Street, Orton - This place is a hidden gem. I booked it last minute to have access to the Lake District and everywhere closer was fully booked or triple the price. I was not disappointed.
Location: Gorgeous little Cumbrian village complete with its own chocolate factory/ice creams/tea rooms plus a post office/general store/off licence. Therea a play park just beyong the church for kids too.
Only a 40 minute drive to Keswick. Very easy to get to. Also a bus service goes through the village.
Loads of free parking on the street. I got a space right outside the hotel both days.
Walks from the village. Very scenic.
Hotel: clean and cosy room, I had a double en suite with excellent shower, kettle, complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits, toiletries, little TV in room, WiFi throughout but works best in the bar/restaurant areas where they serve a wide range of drinks.
It's a quiet hotel/village. Everyone seems very friendly. Owners Andy and Bronagh were lovely, very welcoming, friendly and helpful as were all the other staff.
Breakfast was delicious (pre order & book a time the night before and its ready for you when you arrive) good choice of evening meals plus you can order a packed lunch the night before which is also good when going hiking.
They have a nice beer garden too looking out over the farmland and fells.
Would 100% return.
- Trevor (10/5): - Very friendly staff we had a lovely few days.

- Anthony (10/5): Great place. - This place is a gem, a really lovely breakfast and a great atmosphere. The owners are on the premises and make you very welcome. I don't like to recommend a place in case too many people learn about it but really I had no choice. This place is a gem.

Location is ideal for exploring the Lake District and really easy to get to.
- David A (6/5): Return from Skye - Just a good country pub in a quiet village. Good wholesome food and friendly atmosphere.
- HAYLEY (10/5): Wonderful stay - Wonderful stay, we were well fed and rested to continue our long distance hike.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked having a double duvet on a single bed. You don't loose it in the night when you role over!
- Dom (10/5): - Scenic, quiet location. Superb hospitality. Good breakfast. Excellent value.
- Phyllis (8/5): - Couldn't check in 'til 4pm which was a bit problematic since we arrived at 2pm very wet after completing a stage of the Coast to Coast walk. Heating / boiler was broken which meant drying room was ineffective- unfortunate since everything was soaked.
However friendly welcome, nice meal and staff did what they could to make us comfortable.
- Robert (10/5): - Enjoyable stay. Problem with hot water but staff very apologetic and helpful. They arranged a shower at an adjacent holiday home.
- Tony (10/5): - Hosts made us feel welcome. We had a spacious bedroom and the beer was spot on. We also loved the unspoilt village.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This was supposed to be our 2 year reunion with the boat people.
We always book the George in Penrith itself. Which we thought we had done.
The photos of the George hotel i booked was the stone one where we have stayed several times before.
We couldnt believe on our arrival that we were not on the guest list.
Waiting to join everyone to find out that we ended up in another hotel 20 miles away from our group.
How can these two hotels be classes in Penrith when one is so far away.
I believe on one hand i should of doubled checked. But didnt think it was necessary as the photo shown was of the George in penrith.
Not the George from a place called Orton.
This is deceiving and spoilt our xmas reunion having to travel back and forth.
This hotel is not close to the George hotel for being a 4* at all.
It is a place where we would stay as a fell walker and a rate of 2*
. Although they are portraying it as 4* even had a photo of it.
The rooms were adiquite but not what we expected at all.
One possitive thing is the landlords were pleasant enough &breakfast was ok. But not worth £90. I would of expected to pay around £45.
Sorry but i think he is getting his custom from the reports from the George Penrith.
The distance between these two hotels is from Cramlington to Sunderland. How can they be classed as one town its not right.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was able to arrive late, had helpful welcome and a very comfortable quiet room, breakfast included.
- Fraser (10/5): - Best described as cheap and cheerful, very peaceful, food very good and delivered promptly
- Carolyn (10/5): - Walking the C2C and walking in sopping wet, the manager took everything in stride. She was fantastic our entire stay. The room was beautiful. The town was great. A great stop on the route.
- Angela (10/5): Lovely Village hotel and bar - This is a lovely hostelry where old-fashioned courtesy, helpfulness and kindness abound.
I was walking the Coast to Coast Trail, and arrived muddy and wet. I was made to feel very welcome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great homely pub with great food. hosts Bronagh very helpful
