Guest Reviews
- Mrs barbara (10/5): Great stopover - Everything was as expected.a little basic but warm and cosy and the cleanliness was first class. An enjoyable stay .we were pickIng a kitten up so it was a great stopover. Very friendly staff.
- Rachel (8/5): Would book again - Lovely place in a really nice location.
Quiet village close enough to the coast to ride in by bike.
The room was as described in a building next to the pub.
Pub was cosy and friendly with good food.
The room was cosy and had everything needed. However the walls are a little thin and I could hear the people talking in neighbouring rooms and the pipes when water was ran/flushed. Not a big deal unless you’re a light sleeper.
I would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.
- Karen (8/5): - Comfortable stay
- Andrew (6/5): Wales on two wheels - Weather was good, accommodation well situated in a beautiful picturesque village, friendly locals and very interested in our motorcycle trip through Wales. Hotel food was good and venue was quiet
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The property is quite picturesque and we stayed in room 1 at the top of a flight of stairs. This was unlit at night and had a rickety slab which was dangerous. The room was ok but covered in cobwebs on the ceiling. Whilst the duvet cover was nice the mattress was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on. The greeting was less than warm apart from the barman who was friendly. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This has the potential to be a lovely place to stay the rooms just need tweeking
- MARGARET (6/5): good accommodation dog friendly - nice location though nothing there at all not even shop bar was very noisy and very loud music with locals manageress nice - clean but very uncomfy lumpy bed we had little yorki dog ideal as straight out door for him and we could take him into bar at night not bad at all
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cosy and a beautiful location, could do with better curtains because the room faces east!
- Tony (10/5): Superb value - Really fantastic pub. Staff and locals all very friendly, one arrived on his horse!. Great food, well priced. Dog friendly. Rooms are basic but clean and suitable for a medium sized dog. Great base to visit N Wales.
- Roy (10/5): - Room excellent. Proprietor let me have my room early ie 2.00pm.
The meal in the evening was excellent . Fish Pie.
- Matthew (8/5): Average rooms with great pub food - Lovely pub with great food. Rooms are a little dated but for the price you wouldn’t expect much more.
- yvonne (6/5): - The situation of the pub is fantastic. For what I paid the value was OK. I would have paid a bit more to get food. But the room was clean and nice to have a kettle and tea/coffee bags.
- ileenRussell (8/5): - I loved the room I stayed in No 3 It was perfect for me.
I was disappointed that I couldn't get a phone signal or any Wi Fi. .But that didn't take away the pleasure of staying somewhere so quiet and pretty with such lovely accomodation .
I unfortunately left my watch. It was a very colourful elastic watch strap made up of pretty beads on safety pins. It was bought for me by husband who is unfirunately now in a home with Altzymers disease . He bought it for me in America made by an American artist. I left it on the Radiater in the shower room. I remember taking it from wrist and putting it there as I'd forgotten to take it off and had showered with it on. I'll send you the postage money if you could send it to,me please. If you would rather not do that I'll drive down as soon as Incan to,pick it up.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Weekend break - Weekend break to explore the area, great base for going to different places
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great for the price! Good location for me, sweet village
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Couldnt get phone signal and hard to pick up wi fi but would definitely recommend this place
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The welcome and restaurant service was very warm. Standard of accommodation fine for this price range. Room was nice and warm on a very cold night. When booking through Expedia I was told that the Red Lion Pub did not serve meals, but that there was a Red Lion restaurant down the road. This is incorrect. The pub DOES serve evening meals and the accommodation is on the SAME site.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Woken up at daybreak blinded by the sun- curtain merely a decoration- nowhere to hide had to get up as boiling in there as well.
2x teabags for two people and only full cream hut milk-amenities rubbish.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was adequate and suitable could do with better window covering as the sun blasted in early.
- mark,Di&Tyler (10/5): - We stayed at the Red Lion after a lovely day on Talacre beach with our dog, arrived after 4pm to meet Lyn the landlady who is very pleasant and friendly to get our key to the lovely quiet rooms which are just adjacent to the pub. great rooms, nice and clean, got everything you need, and best of all our dog could stay in with us, little garden at the side up the steps to let the dog out, lovely picturesque village, had a few beers in the bar later that night, chatting with friendly locals, Beautiful pub, Beautiful village, great end to a beautiful day.
already looking to going back.
Thanks Lyn
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beautiful picturesque town to visit.
The meal was great, staff were friendly and courteous.
Disappointed with lack of block out curtains and found it very light to sleep.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely pub adjacent - very friendly staff. Room basic but clean. Great views, set in lovely village.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is in the mountains, so if you are on a walking break, great.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We booked a deluxe double room
Good: 1.We could bring our dog 2.Bedding and towels were clean 3.Decent tea and coffee making facilities
Disappointing: 1.Uncomfortable mattress 2.No hairdryer 3.No spare toilet roll 4.Ironing board but no iron 4.No breakfast available
Hard to see what was deluxe about it!
- hugues (8/5): Avoid if you need wifi - Everything ok except for the Wi-Fi shock is very weak and kept disconnecting
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such a sweet little set out. Rooms were situated just outside the pub. Lovely little rooms with attentive staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great food, pud and staff, all good would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely country pub with rooms. We arrived to be give n the key to our room, when we went back to the bar our table was laid for dinner. Most delicious belly pork for both of us and a couple of drinks each was less than £50. Our server kindly lent us a charging plug (lifesaver). Room was spotless, cosy, comfortable and equipped with tv, tea making and superior biscuits.
Not yet had breakfast but I’m looking forward to it!
- Phil (10/5): Top place - Lovely place and in the middle of nowhere
- Kevin (10/5): - Very nice. Lovely area.
- Steve (10/5): - Nice little double room. Cheap, Quite and in the middle of nowhere! Pub food was nice too. A+++
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely staff and lovely location. Cosy atmosphere on arrival and nothing is to much for staff.
- Marti (8/5): - Very friendly and very clean.... a tad on the small side but unbelievably good value for money.... bed was amazingly comfortable... will deff come back and stay again :-)
- ALAN (6/5): Our Christmas stop over at The Red Lion. - Initially the staff at the Red Lion could not find my booking. Luckily they had a spare room which was on the top floor of a outside building. It was dark when we booked in and the light at the top of the stairs was hanging off the wall and not working. The room and facilities were good and we cannot complain about this. The shower was difficult to control, at one point scalding water came out, luckily I was holding the head down so I was not burnt. I had looked at some reviews regarding this hotel and was aware that in the past it did not offer breakfast. this particular review had been answered and claimed changes had been made to resolve this issue.Unfortunately breakfast is still not on the menu. In my opinion this is a simple matter of offering a continental type breakfast of cereals, tea or coffee, fruit juice bread and a toaster, milk and sugar. This would require a minimum of staff to organise. Car parking was also a slight problem, eventually we found the church car park across the junction outside the hotel. In the morning we had to knock on the window of the closed pub to give in the keys. LLanasa looks to be a good place to explore, I will not be staying at this hotel again though. We made our way to Holywell where a good breakfast was had at a local venue. I booked with Hotels .com at the beginning of December. I have complained to them about the mystery of the missing booking. The Red Lion confirmed they had my booking??
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely accommodation excellent price and good atmosphere
- Frank&lisa (4/5): Unprepared - We had booked the room as a break from our overnight travelling. We told them we would be arriving about 9am and leaving around 2pm. I asked them to confirm this was ok which they did. When we arrived (9.30AM) the place was all locked up and after knocking on all doors and windows the landlady eventually arrived, evidently straight from her bed. We explained about the arrangements we had made and she said she was not aware of any such thing. Fortunately I had kept the emails on my tablet and was able to show her these. She then said our room was currently occupied as check out wasn't until 4pm but she gave us the keys to another room. When we got in the room it had clearly not been made ready. The bed had been stripped with a quilt on the floor but no bedding was available. Also there were no towels or tea/coffee facilities. Returning to the "pub" we again had to wait for the landlady to get up from her bed when she then made up the room while we waited outside in the rain. At around 2pm we returned to the pub to check out as arranged and yet again everything was locked. Despite our loud knocking on all doors and windows no one arrived And so we had no alternative but to post the room key through the letter box and phone the owners (no answer). We left a message saying we had posted the keys and asked them to deduct what we owed from the debit card we left details of. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!
- Tracy (8/5): Clean, functional room & helpful staff - Our welcome on arrival was friendly & genuine. A 4pm check-in time is a little later that we prefer, but we knew that when we booked. We asked for an iron & one was brought to the room, so that was great.
Double bed, wardrobe, dressing table & bedside tables furnished the room, which was clean & functional. The curtains were unlined, so the sun woke us up in the morning, but again that was ok. A kettle, tea & coffee and biscuits were also provided, which was a nice touch.
Shower, sink & toilet in the small bathroom were all spotless.
Breakfast isn't included in the room rate because the Red Lion doesn't serve breakfast, so make sure you make plans for breakfast elsewhere if you do indeed eat breakfast. Again, this was fine for us as we were aware & had breakfast planned with friends.
We booked this hotel because the location was where we needed to be, and would book it again if we ever needed to be in this area again.
- janice (8/5): Great weekend retreat - Beautiful villsge. Nice comfy rooms. Friendly. Food was good value. Locatiion perfect base to travel to surrounding points of interest.
- hitch (6/5): Ok to stay but no breakfast - Disappointed with the lack of room service, was there 3 days no cleaners, was told on last day I should have ask for clean towel as they don’t do room service
- Verified traveler (10/5): Just the job - I only stayed one night as it was for work but the room was lovely and the landlady very friendly. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Reasonably priced room that met our needs as base for attending a wedding.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room was fine. Pub doesn’t offer food on a Tuesday which meant a trip out and no WiFi was available in the rooms as stated
- Amanda (10/5): Owners and staff are really warm and welcoming - Lovely warm people who bent over backwards to be accommodating, a pretty and comfortable room and a really leafy, pretty garden.
I will be back. Lovely stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely full of character - The hotel was very difficult to find if there was a map supplied it would have been much easier. We had been driving all day and it was very stressful not being to find the Hotel.
- jill (6/5): B&b in Holywell wales - Was ok for what we needed , would not like to spend more than a night there also only 2 taxi firms in area so had to wait 30 mins for taxi
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pleasant stay at the red lion - Llanasa village is beautiful.
Rooms are basic but well presented and clean.
The pub is lovely but the restaurant is dated and lacks charisma. A good place to stop off at for the night.
- CarolynS (10/5): - Located in an out of the way village, the Red Lion was everything I want in a hotel. The view from my room was beautiful and all I could hear were sheep, cows and the occasional moorhen on a pond across the road. Maureen and her staff made me feel like a member of the family and the food was great. My room was cleaned every day (I stayed in Owen Glyndwr) the bed was comfortable and tea and coffee making facilities were provided and replenished. I would definitely stay again if in the area.
- Unknown (2/5): - No welcome when we arrived.
Was asked if we wanted taking to the room - we had not been there before so of course we needed this.
The room was very dirty, marks on the bedding, dusty, toilet was filthy.
Not clean.
Didn't feel secure and was overlooked by pub guests.
The owners were not friendly and the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. We only stayed one hour and we had booked 3 nights!
Wasted our money - not happy!
- Honduran Traveler (8/5): Great location and nice place - First time in Wales. Area was nice and the town was very neat experience. The cleanliness was not the best. The concept of the hotel was great, but the execution was so,so. I did like the experience though.
- Verified traveler (4/5): disappointed - Read good reviews but room was small and beds uncomfy. The shower hadn't been cleaned as someone else's razor was left. The food was also disappointing unfortunately. The area itself though was lovely and quiet and staff friendly.
