Guest Reviews
- Kevin (10/5): Great Host and Room - A fantastic host and welcome and the room was superb!
- Mark (10/5): - Room 4 - great decor and super comfortable bed. Huge tv too. Bathroom a little dated and needs a refit to be brought up to the standard of the bedroom.
- Stephen (10/5): Great stay - Great room food was good and very quiet
- Michael (6/5): - The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. Problem with the T.V,. reception so un able to watch it.
Also problem with shower - either scalding hot or freezing cold, no middle area. Parking is easy, right outside hotel with no restrictions. In all, good value for money these days.
- Felicity (10/5): - This is a lovely property and our room was clearly recently refurbished. (Beautifully). The only point to make is that there is no lift, so accessibility for the less mobile is difficult, but this is just something to know, not a criticism. It’s an old building so just one of those things. Everything else outweighs that.
- Christine (10/5): Fantastic stop over - I think the Black Horse has had a complete redecorate as every thing was so new, modern and very clean
Unfortunately due to circumstances there was no food but plenty of cafe, takeaways, restaurant walking distance
Parking was right outside on the roadside and no problems
The beer garden at the back of the pub looked magical
We will stop again on the ferry journeys
- Gudrun (8/5): - Very good!
- Linzie (8/5): - The room was a good size. It was clean and had all the tea and coffee making facilities you would need. The only downside was the room was next to the outside space. You could hear people talking but luckily it stopped pretty early so didn't cause any problems
- Verified traveler (8/5): All good - I really liked this place, the room was fine and had everything needed. Parking was easy and free on the street outside and it was very convenient for the town centre. It was much quieter than expected as well with little road noise, or from the bar nearby. The staff I spoke to were both friendly. I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat there, but overall everything was as expected and I would happily stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful place my only downpoint was memory foam mattress and single glazed window so you can hear traffic outside
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was nice n big bathroom . The mattress on the bed was foam and uncomfortable . We booked hotel n next day after booking the hotel email was sent saying no meals because of covid ? We had dinner in the 2 Hotels just up from the Black Horse on the same street ? ? I don't no why the Black Horse wasn't serving meals. We won't go back to this hotel
- Paul (4/5): Never again - Hotel smelled a bit funky. No food being served (don’t know why). Tiny tv with bad reception. Window directly above area for smokers. Wouldn’t stay again. Nobody around in the morning to pay.
- Emily (10/5): Hidden gem - hidden gem of a hotel lovely staff too!
- SAM (10/5): A great place to stay! - Based on a work stay the hotel was covid secure, the room was spotless, quiet and comfortable. All staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a great little hotel in Newton Stewart!
- Cameron (8/5): - Very good value pleasant and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): South west 300 stop off - We stayed as part of south west 300 it was a great stop off, very friendly staff. Felt very welcome.
Room was nice and clean , had everything you needed, shower room had slight smell (damp?)but clean.
Comfy bed , we had windows open as it was hot night, the only down fall was noise/ music from bar till about 12.30 .
The room doors are very highly sprung (fire doors) they really bang shut , our very considerate neighbour decided that they would go back and forth to their room about 8 times between 11pm and 2 am .. but not the hotels fault just an inconsiderate prat..
overall great stay , Debbie was very helpful and good laugh.x.
- Barry (8/5): Ride the Black Horse - Friendly, helpful hostess.
- kevin (10/5): Refuge from a storm - Had book a room after storm washed me out from a camping holiday. Excellent service, friendly staff and a great room. Over slept is was so comfortable.
- Heather (10/5): - We had a great experience. The rooms were nice, clean, quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was clean. When the staff found out we would be leaving before the included breakfast started they offered us a packed lunch to take with us and it was ready and waiting when we left at 7am the next morning. They went above and beyond!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Celtic Class - Really excellent hotel, with friendly staff and idyllic location
- Verified traveler (2/5): - My wife and I booked in for a one night stay using reviews from Expedia. It proved to be a disasterous experience. We will not trust reviews again. The hotel appeared clean an
Bed not double, probably only three quarter size. Not suitable for two average size adults. My wife is a size 8 and I’m just pushing 10 stone.
Stuffy room, no view. Staff smoke cigarettes outside the front door belowyour window and this odour pervades your room. I had to close window but makes room even more clostrophobic as there is no ventilation. , not even a fan.
Broadband does not work, well not if you are upstairs in your room.l
Cheap, but not cheerful.
You get what you pay for I guess.
Didn’t wait to try out breakfast.
Left that night due to total discomfort.
Our WORST experience of an overnight stay, EVER.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value hotel. - Nice wee no-frills hotel. The bar meals are reasonably priced and filling and the staff are pleasant and helpful.
- james (8/5): PLESENT STAY - Nice stay ,Food good car park at rear.
Could do with better shower head .
Nice warm room and friendly staff many thanks Jim the bathroom man
- john (10/5): First class. - Excellent location, comfortable, spotlessly clean room and superb breakfast. Staff are professional and friendly. Everything a top class Inn should be - you won’t find better.
- Emma (8/5): - Pleasant hotel nice room and very clean. On arrival had to wait a while for keys however and weren't told any information or where anything was. This could be improved.
- REVD D P (10/5): GREAT RURAL HOTEL WITH ATTENTIVE STAFF - An excellent stay with well chosen attentive staff, so comfortable - thoroughly enjoyed stay!
- tezza (8/5): Warm welcome on arrival - Easy to find, staff member greeted us warmly and check in was smooth without any hassle. Bar area warm and welcoming with nice atmosphere. Room clean and comfy bed. Very happy with my choice of accommodation and will definitely consider staying here again.
- jess (10/5): Nice quaint pub - Stayed here for the night before a cycling event .
Fabulous it was too.
Very quaint pub decor was lovely , very friendly staff and a lovely room .
Breakfast was cooked to order and was one of the best we have had .
Would definitely stay here again .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were on route to Cairnryan to get the ferry tip Belfast. The hotel was very comfortable and the food was very reasonably priced in the hotel bar.
The town has few amenities but we're just needed a stop on route.
- Gordon (6/5): - Great location for exploring the area. Great service and helpful staff. Will definitely be back.
- Tony (10/5): Excellent Service - A really welcoming experience to first visit to this hotel. The staff were really friendly. The rooms were all very comfortable. We had an Evening meal in the restaurant which was superb. The breakfast was also substantial. Would definitely use again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant and helpful staff - Will stay again when working in the area. Only downside, no desk to work at.
- peter (8/5): Black Horse break Newton Stewart - Very well placed to explore the local area.. If you are a beer drinker the beer was excellent. Breakfast first class. Evening meal very good. Only slight downside for me was continuous music in the bar - but that may appeal to others
- Sharon (10/5): - Excellent staff very friendly and welcoming, would recommend this hotel and will stay there again without hesitation when next in the area.
- Ian (10/5): clean tidy I cant rate my stay high enough - I was visiting family
- Mick (8/5): Black horse Newton Stewarr - Room small but comfortable , hosts very welcoming and friendly , evening meal and breakfast lovely
- Bob (6/5): - O/N on route to Ferry @ Cairnryan.
Bed a little soft on one side, mattress needs turning or replacing. Food excellent, proved by the number of diners, but serving closed early in evening. Staff appeared to be more interested in locals, who sit at bar restricting space to book in. Single room small and a little expensive for B & B
- Stephen (8/5): Newly updated and comfortable - Lovely and comfortable, very friendly welcome.
- Maureen (10/5): Lovely wee hotel, great service. - Impressed by overall standard of refurbishment and enthusiasm of staff. Service and food excellent and as a single traveller often feel neglected - but not here. Single room with ensuite was comfortable and well appointed and beautifully decorated -suggest they up attention to detail though.
Small details missed that detract from overall finish- (suggest a member of staff lies down on bed, and sits on loo, and realises what guest sees from those positions!)
- stephen (10/5): Good hotel - Had a lovely stay and the breakfast was excellent
- Anne (10/5): - Stop off on the way from Belfast to Newcastle. Arrived late but the staff member was very welcoming. Very comfortable room and great breakfast to set us up for the journey. Will definitely stay again!
- Simon (6/5): Pleasant, popular hotel, minor issues, great VFM! - Stayed here on a trip with a friend while we did Photography in the area. The hotel is close to the Galloway Forest Park and there were a number of alternate food options in the area. Hotel was a good honest 3* standard. Service was friendly, helpful and food was of a good standard. Breakfasts in particular were excellent and much appreciated. We didn't feel the need to eat elsewhere for our 3 nights. The twin room itself was clean, albeit a bit cramped. We were located over the bar. We were advised of this after booking, and it was only really an issue for a short period on the Friday and Saturday nights, with loud music very clearly heard in the room. We had accepted this limitation, and it was all off by 11pm on the Friday, and 11.45ish on the Saturday, so not that great an issue. We sat in the Dining Room and drank beer, and the barman kindly disconnected the loudspeaker, such that we could enjoy a conversation, while the busy bar next door enjoyed loud music. So I can't really fault the hotel for these things and it was good to see a vibrant popular, well used pub/hotel. There was a small car park at the back, and wifi throughout. Overall it was well-located, excellent value for money and service and food were of a good standard. There was a slight hiccup in that our room had not been serviced on the Saturday morning. It didn't bother us for the 1 day it happened, so we've given the benefit of the doubt in that it was a simple omission.
- Tim (8/5): Perfect MTB weekend venue - Good position to do the Big Country Ride, and excellent for other other 7 Staines centres.
Really friendly staff, and a good atmosphere in the bar. Only issue was being an English guy in Scotland when the Aussies beat England at Rugby,
Breakfasts were fantastic, and all the staff are super helpful and friendly
- Phil (6/5): Horsing around - Efficient service. Good breakfast range. Room stuffy at night - duvets far too heavy for time of year; slept in cover only. Traffic noise (in Room 1)
- Peggy (8/5): Like Family - The owners and staff of the Black Horse Hotel are wonderful, friendly people. Although modest in it's size and decor, the people there made us feel so much at home and it was as if we had all known each other for years, not just a few days. The food was wonderful! The rooms were very clean and well kept. I would certainly consider staying there again.
- Isabelle (10/5): May 2015 - We stayed 2 separate nights at The Black Horse, on our outward journey to Ireland & on the return. On both occasions we had a warm welcome from the staff. We had a meal in the bar & considering that the staff were catering for a party of 28 in the dining room the meal was freshly prepared & served promptly. The room was clean & tastefully decorated. The only complaint is the size of the shower a little bit on the small size. However overall we had a great stay & have recommended The Black Horse to family & friends.
- stephen (8/5): redtomo - good clean hotel
- redtomo (10/5): good location - service good,rooms clean
- janice Bartle (8/5): Very hospitable - We were made to feel very welcome, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and again the service was friendly. The location was ideal as we were there for a family wedding and it was in the middle of all the locations we needed to be at. There were also shops nearby so I could get some things I had forgotten to bring.
- KW (2/5): Potentially good - Room was comfy enough and staff were friendly. However, we stayed on a Sunday night and the hotel bar remained noisy until after 2am. Not sure what was going on - lock in maybe? - but it totally ruined our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): a pub with rooms. - A good quality hotel with friendly staff. The hotel is situated at one end of town surrounded by pubs and other hotels. Limited parking on there car park but plenty of free side street parking available.
