Guest Reviews
- Joann (9/5): -
- Carrina (10/5): - Cosy, comfortable, clean, good food, and helpful and friendly staff, historical building with features and fireplaces. Country restaraunt with fresh country produce.
They accomodated requests.
I had the best nights sleep!
Good price! Closed until 5pm each day.
Would be nice to be open for drinks & board games by the fireplace etc earlier.
- Mark (9/5): -
- Heather (10/5): Excellent - It is located a gorgeous little village and very quaint inside - it was beautiful and service was fantastic. Communicated with me when having problems with travelling and nothing was a bother. Would come here again. Food was very tasty!
- Dixon (10/5): Beautiful place to stay and dine. - Eagle Tavern was absolutely amazing, the food, the hotel, the pub, all fantastic, this place is absolutely beautiful... Staff was lovely, very helpful and accommodating... Already planning on staying again... The only thing that could have been better would have been that I'd stayed here for longer than 1 night
- Kathy (10/5): An unexpected delight. Very comfortable. The staff was helpful and courteous. Food excellent. - I choose the location because it was close to what I wanted visit and easy access to M-4. Worked out wonderfully. The food was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the inn. First class service and food. Room was lovely. nothing
- Paula (9/5): Quiet location, good value for money - Very clean, room had everything you would need, friendly welcome on arrival
We ate in the restaurant the food was amazing Bed was uncomfortable

- Perry (4/5): Poor & disappointing for a supposed 4star rating! - Nothing Room was dated, too much unnecessary furniture, mattress was not fit for use, kettle was not cordless and biscuits were soft.
- Sarah (8/5): Good for the money with an excellent chef. - Comfortable bed.
Fantastic food. Pretty much no wi-fi.
Bathroom/shower left a bit to be desired.
- Caroline (10/5): An oasis of calm. Excellent food and service. Great value with many extra details. - The whole experience was just lovely. I called ahead to check last time for ordering dinner. Turned out I was arriving exactly at that time -8pm so I pre-ordered steak, and it was served outside in the very sweet garden area within 10 minutes of arriving.
The welcome by the barman was friendly. He showed me to my room, told me everything I needed to know and served dinner too.
Dinner was super tasty, hot and well-presented. The Merlot was perfect and the Pavlova to die for!
What I couldn't understand was why there was no one else at the pub below or anyone eating dinner! Because I found the whole village and hotel just lovely. I had the whole little oasis to myself and it was just what I needed after a few weeks of hard work! I felt myself relaxing like butter! I had an amazing night's sleep as it was so quiet. I had to leave early so didn't have breakfast. Parking in front of the hotel was close by. I will definitely try to stay there again The stairs to my room were a bit creaky!😬
- Mary (10/5): The hotel fulfilled our needs exactly. - Clean, comfortable, kind and friendly staff. Nothing.
- Tony (10/5): Fantastic stay, very comfortable and friendly, staff couldn’t do enough , the evening meal I had was excellent - Very warm and friendly welcome , very clean and well decorated The only gripe I could find was the shower
- C (8/5): Very good -
- Elan (7/5): Good -
- Myer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rupert (8/5): A lovely relaxing stay, close to Faringdon. - Friendly welcome, early check-in, clean and tidy room, fantastic evening menu and a wonderful, fresh cooked hot breakfast. Great value for money. In the morning, the water pressure for the shower was too low to have a hot shower but I understand this is a problem throughout the village due to morning demand.
- Jeffrey (7/5): A very good place to eat rather than to stay - Excellent food Bedroom very old fashioned and needed dusting. Bathroom very cramped
- Mark (9/5): Very comfortable stay, helpful and friendly staff, excellent food- both evening meal and breakfast. - Very comfortable stay, helpful and friendly staff, excellent food- both evening meal and breakfast. Nothing
- Jeremy (9/5): Great food. Lovely inn. Friendly staff. Attractive villlage. - Lovely pub inside. Mix of seated dining and lounge seating. Good decor. Shower took a while to get to the right temperature. Didn’t detract from the experience.
- Lisa (8/5): Tasteful. - Size of room was great. Location is a very small village. Bed was very comfortable and bedding was very clean. Bath tub has quite high sides so for an older person may be a struggle to get in and out. Power shower a bit intermittent. Folding shower screen needs a good clean. TV signal is patchy but improves if you wiggle the wires on the back.
- Louise (9/5): Beautiful Country Pub - Cleanliness , good value , lovely meal Nothing
- Philippe (10/5): on y reviendra -
- Tim.w (9/5): Great little hotel with super bar and restaurant. - Great little hotel with an excellent restaurant (downstairs in the bar). Comfortable bed, spacious room; off the beaten track and very quiet. Great place for an overnighter if you have business in the area. Nothing, it was all good!
- Francis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anastasia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Olivia (10/5): Wonderfully peaceful and comfortable. - Location beautiful and peaceful. Room very spacious. Bed vast and warm. Staff put themselves out to accommodate my early arrival. Very good value for money. :) A very small thing; I would have liked a few hooks around the place to hang things on.
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mutl3y (7/5): Good -
- Kingston (7/5): Overall good - Did not take breakfast. Room very comfortable and spacious. Had an excellent evening meal. Waiter/Receptionist was very helpful. Convenient to meeting my Sister in Faringdon. Quiet location. The bathroom facilities need modernising. A walk in shower and remove large bath would-be good and alot safer.
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- Sean (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Good value for money, lovely place , helpful friendly staff , great breakfast The shower runs off the taps ok for washing your hair in the bath but not great to have a shower with , needs updating . Nowhere to hang clothes needs a rail or a wardrobe
- Chiara (10/5): A nice stay in the heart of the Cotswolds - The staff were very helpful and kind in waiting for us beyond the check-in time due to an unforeseen event that delayed our arrival. Since the room we had booked had suffered minor damage caused by a previous guest – damage which did not cause us any inconvenience – we were offered an excellent and generous breakfast free of charge the following morning, for which we are even more grateful.
- Young (10/5): good value and very tasty breakfast! - breakfast was really good, top quality ingredients and great coffee, the guy knew how to make a top top notch cappuccino! they were very friendly and accommodating, even serving us drinks before a wedding when the bar wasn’t open yet.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful room in a tiny picturesque village. Well looked after by staff and lovely breakfast Loved everything
- Armorel (10/5): The Eagle Tavern is a little hidden gem, would highly recommend it. - The staff member who met us was exceptionally friendly and helpful,he told us where to park our car as there was street cleaning the next day. I was very impressed at his care and consideration for surrounding houses and neighbours in this lovely, tiny village. Breakfast was delicious and generous and we were able to watch the horses out for their constitutional whilst eating it. The dinner menu looked good, was a bit disappointed we were unable to partake due the timing of our arrival and departure but will certainly try to do so when we are next in the area. Nothing, it was all good.
- Irwin (10/5): Outstanding and beyond expectations - Beautiful style and decor. A step back in time in the most wonderful way. The room was tastefully furnished with a modern twist, and the food was excellent. That I had to experience it alone - I'll take my other half back for a weekend break.
- Mat (7/5): Good - Lovely quiet rural location but not far from good road links. Used to break up journey from Portsmouth to Hull following a long Ferry crossing. Heavy rains unfortunately caused a leak in our room damaging paintwork (not the fault of the owners and they did give us FREE breakfast as compensation) The property could do with a bit of a refresh though too as some fixtures/fittings are a little tired.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (9/5): My stay was excellent ,super food ,super service , super staff - Breakfast excellent and i dined on the evening and my meal was excellent and so was the service m I was very happy with my stay and would certainly use the Eagle again
- Heather (10/5): Lovely place to stay, friendly staff and excellent facility - Very comfortable and clean. Marcel was most helpful getting it bags up to and from our rooms with very friendly service for our meals too Bathroom a bit small but we were ok with it.
- Jennifer (10/5): Fantastic property in great location and we hope to stay again very shortly - We liked the charm and unique style
We absolutely loved the food and sincere personal service Nothing other than learning how to manage the shower
- Allan (9/5): Pleasant and relaxing except for thw satira. - Very helpful owner Marcel.Helped me with bags etc.Its a bit of a foody place and lots come to dine .Bit expensive for me though. Steep stairs two sets where I was.Marcel had told me over the phone about it so I knew and couldn’t change.
- Karen (8/5): Fabulous meal and comfortable room - We visited primarily for the food, which was excellent.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- George (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were fantastic and really accommodating. The location was perfect for my trip.
Comfortable and clean. The rooms and carpets looked a bit outdated
- Jacqueline (8/5): The host was engaging and welcoming. - More than sufficient, hot. The flow of water from the shower was very low.
- Elizabeth (10/5): A pretty location and excellent value. Thank u - Very friendly and appreciated the being able to check in early. My room was spotlessly clean. Amazing furniture and very comfy bed
- Thiyagarajah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Chris (7/5): Would highly recommend - Quiet pretty location. Quality breakfast. Attentive friendly staff. Vert warm stuffy room as on top floor with boiler close by. Shower not best.
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (9/5): Excellent base for a weekend walking in local area. - Lovely village location, good well equipped room, excellent breakfast and evening meal, courteous staff. Nothing
- Grace (10/5): Brilliant! - I booked this hotel for my in laws. The staff were lovely when I showed up the evening before to pay for the room. My in laws said they had a lovely stay and a delicious breakfast!
- Madeleine (10/5): Exceptional - Everything!!
Very quiet and away from the hustle anf bustle.
Fabulous breakfast.
Lovely four poster bed.
Lovely staff. Nothing.
All was good.
- Judy (8/5): A nice location/hotel - Welcoming host Different bread please
- Stephen (5/5): A little disappointed - quiet location No breakfast was included maybe an oversight on our side they asked us for an extra £15 per person, we declined!
The shower was awful from mixer taps which you have to hold up as the bracket is about 4ft then hope no one else in other rooms use any water!
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Clean, well maintained cosy tavern.
Couldn't of been more happy with our experience. Can't fault the place, we both agreed it was superb.
- Ruth (9/5): Superb -
- Anastasia (10/5): Exceptional - Rooms are traditional and clean. Service is above excellent, and food is superb. Very good prices, taking into account the proximity to Cotswolds.
- Christina (9/5): Superb -
- William (7/5): ok , but would not rush back - The atmosphere was nice , the staff were pleasant and the evening exceptionally good breakfast a Big dissapointment ! , we were the only ones there and it felt we where being rushed through , our breakfast arrived halfway through eating our cerial . After our evening meal the night before we were expecting something special, but it wasnt , Ive had better breakfasts in cafes

- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (9/5): Very nice! - Staff were lovely and the accommodation had character Quite easy to hear the neighbouring rooms
- Geraldine (9/5): Brilliant place to stay with exceptional food - The food was superb and the standard has remained very high since we last visited several years ago. This is the first time we have stayed and everything was excellent. Staff are very pleasant go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The bathroom could do with a rail/ handle on the bath
- Liam (10/5): Was perfect food was brilliant - Lovely quiet little village just off a main road easy to find and get to a perfect stay over for anyone traveling
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (5/5): It was OK curtains need sorting the kettle needs changing think it's dangerous to be honest - The shower screen never fitted the bath properly so ended up flooding the bathroom
- Candice (9/5): Fabulous stay - My partner and I were walking the Thames Path and booked the Eagle Tavern as a stop over, we were not planning on having dinner but the menu looked great so we decided to eat in and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, the customer service was spot on, run by a small team and the Eagle Tavern is their passion. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, my only bug bear was that check in was only at 5pm after a long hard day of walking we had to taxi to a pub and wait for an hour and half before we could check in. Other than that 5 stars all round. Late check in
- Sascha (8/5): Always nice to stay here - great breakfast, very quiet, in a nice small village but good access to major roads, very friendly owner, great dinner shower did not work correctly (regulation of heat)
- Jayne (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - It was very clean & comfortable. Friendly & helpful.

- Roger (10/5): A (possibly) hidden gem !! - Very quiet, sleepy little village in rural Oxfordshire, lovely location for a quiet weekend away .The Eagle Tavern was an absolute gem of a find with a lovely country pub ambience, very clean and comfortable accommodation with excellent food beautifully prepared and presented by the hosts. 10 out of 10, would thoroughly recommend. Nothing not to like.
- Bond (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ros (9/5): We had a lovely stay - we had been before, and enjoyed ourselves then....and will be coming again ! - Excellent breakfast. The location of the Eagle Tavern was ideal for walking and exploring the surrounding countryside of the Vale of the White Horse. The staff were very helpful and seeking to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Nothing really. Maybe bottled water in the room ? Also, maybe an information sheet about the locality - footpaths, the history of the White Horse, origins of the Eagle Tavern etc....
- Jack (8/5): Great Location and wonderful pub stay. - Great location and pub. Staff were very friendly. Great breakfast - the bread and full English was a great start to the day!! Shower wasn't great.
- Christopher (8/5): Very good - Excellent restaurant Breakfast over-priced
- Lyn (8/5): Very good - Price Parking an issue Not able to access bar til 5pm No opportunity to purchase snacks and nowhere to relax until 5pm other than bedroom
- Kim (8/5): Good food and quiet location - Good food and quiet room on top floor. Pretty village close to where i was volunteering at the White Horse Uffington. Staff were friendly and helpful Toilet seat kept moving there was toilet paper in the toilet bowl when I arrived. The shower was pretty poor, gave up as couldn't set at decent height and bath was very slow to run.
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (9/5): Superb - Fabulous food Pillows
- Mary-anne (8/5): A lovely place, great food - The staff were exceptional. Friendly, professional and approachable. The food was, as many others have said, just wonderful. The dining room, although full had a pleasant buzz, while the waiting staff were very efficient. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable.
The manager found us a table at short notice and was very helpful. Make sure you book a table at the same time as you book a room. It is too far to walk to other restaurants and anyway, why would you want to, given the standard of the cuisine. The shower in our room. It was temperamental and we couldn't adjust it. Again, the manager was concerned and gave a reasonable explanation. You rarely get that attention to detail.
- Sean (10/5): Very good - Very very good Nothing
- Mark (4/5): Despite being convenient when visiting family, we will not return. - We did not eat at the property during our stay, therfore my comment relates to room and facilities. The bed was, frankly a complete joke, the mattress no longer functioning consistently, but firm in parts and soft in others and no longer level.
Decor is dowdy and carpets dirty. The environs of the pub were tatty and poorly maintained.
- Mel (9/5): Superb -
- Jo (9/5): Superb - Location Walls a little thin. My room was the first one at the top of the stairs so could hear people coming. Luckily it didn’t appear very busy
- Wendy (4/5): Disappointing - Not very clean.
Room exceptionally hot and shower didn’t work
