Guest Reviews
- Diane (5/5): I’m sure there are better options. Get your act together if you want paying guests Swan. - Good location. Comfortable bed Staff totally out of their depth. Poor greeting on arrival. No knowledge of wine (which was very ordinary). No proper place to check in. Manager good (helped with bags & was professional) but with badly trained staff and no systems, was not enough.
- Positive (1/5): Unable to make contact with hotel- Not acceptable - Booking.com and Swindon Borough Council have been trying to contact this property regarding the cancellation. they have ignored all emails, and their telephone line does not allow you to leave messages to get any contact back. I would be cautious before booking if you are concerned about communication with this hotel.
- Gary (8/5): Good value for money stay - Comfortable room, good staff, value for money
- Liucina (7/5): - The room was very nice and clean, friendly and helpful staff members. It was easy to find, check-in until 23:00. There is no parking near the hotel - parking space is 300 m away, charges around 6 GBP.
The boiler in the bathroom is quite loud during the night, had a poor night sleep because of that.
- Jozef (8/5): Good value for money in the centre of Wadebridge close to the bus station and shops. - Hotel was in the centre, close to the shops and bus station. Room was cleaned everyday and we had tea and coffee facilities re-stocked everyday. The hotel has scaffolding all around at the moment, so there was scaffolding right outside our bedroom window.
- Shane (8/5): Very quick short stay as we was cycling the Camel Trail. - We never had a breakfast as they did not start breakfast until 9.30am by which we had vacated . Nothing
- John (5/5): - Thought breakfast was included but obviously not
- Joseph (4/5): -
- Richard (7/5): Value for money stopover - Good to see the outside of the building is being painted. Hopefully this initiative will follow to the tired, but clean, interior. Did not get to experience breakfast as nothing is available before 09:30
- Laura (8/5): -
- Joanna (7/5): Short and sweet - Comfortable room and clean Nothing
- Damian (8/5): Great location and great food. - Great location and great food. Rooms were a bit dated but would stay again if in the area.
- Massimo (7/5): -
- David (9/5): Excellent place to stay in central Wadebridge - Very central - good Coop opposite and easy to get 57 bus to Padstow almost outside. The room was very comfortable, with a proper bath! Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Some of the decoration was a bit worn, but still fine.
- Cheryl (7/5): Pleasant stay - Friendly staff and clean refurbished room Bar and stairs area in need of refurb
- harry (8/5): Nice trip - Very well looked after room and was nice and clean No parking
- Jeremy (10/5): Great Value - Comfortable & spacious bedroom, excellent shower & decent food , staff friendly No parking at the hotel

Lovely food.

- Sarah (10/5): - First staying staff was so friendly would defo come again
- Stephanie (9/5): Stayed before always welcoming rooms comfortable and easy to find - Very cosy and comfortable
- Colette (10/5): Great night’s stay. Extremely clean and comfortable - Great location and thank you to your cleaner as it was spotless
- Maria (2/5): -
- Matt (7/5): - Nice, local hotel above a pub. Convenient location, nice staff. The building has seen better days, there was a smell in the room, leak stains on the bathroom ceiling.
- Marybeth (10/5): Great - Friendly environment All was good
- Richard (9/5): -
- Claire (10/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Oscar (1/5): We did t stay. We left - Not much really They didn’t have the rooms correct. Upon showing us to our room they opened a door to find a man in bed and realised they had a mix up. We didn’t stay at the hotel as we was concerned this could happen to us and someone could let themselves into our room. Not knowing who is in what room gave us great concern around fire safety. Should there have been a fire how would they know who was where and how to get to people.
- Marcus (8/5): Good cheap weekend stay. Local to amenities, tourist spots and beach was close by too. - Good location ,good price, local to food and drink outlets Bed was a bit small. Stairs up to rooms could do with a tidy up and a link of paint.
- Neil (9/5): -
- Mandy (9/5): Good place to stay food excellent very clean and tidy staff wonderful -
- Ian (8/5): -
- David (7/5): Absolutely fine. - Location was excellent. Breakfast was fine although the hotel was not able to offer any jams to go with toast. Room was a little warm. There was no air conditioning, although a window could be opened. However given it's location that brought in outside noise from the street below.
- Karen (5/5): Ok but wouldn't go again or recommend - Breakfast ok but not included in price of stay Leak in bathroom showerhead wouldn't stay up raised carpet coming out of bathroom big hazard no telly reception very hot in bedroom needs air condition very overpriced for what you hot
- Megan (3/5): - Our room was above the kitchen and it physically vibrated from 9:30am - 9:30pm (kitchen open to close). The vibration came with a loud noise also. This was due to the extractor fans underneath us. If you planning to be in your room within these hours I would not recommend.
- Shirley (8/5): -
- Gemma (5/5): You get what you pay for if you like a good drink and loud environment would recommend but if you want a nice romantic n - Nice basic room Very loud due to being above a pub when pub closed people fighting and screaming outside
- Benedicte (9/5): Superhyggelig krostemning!
Meget central beliggenhed midt i byen
God mad!!!
- Mikhail (7/5): -
- Lee (8/5): -
- Laura (8/5): -
- Sue (8/5): -
- Ronald (7/5): A lot to like about the staff and location - The food, staff and location were all very good and welcoming. The room was very clean. The only drawback was the room being located close to the extractor system for the kitchen which made it noisy whilst the kitchen was operating. Noise from the kitchen extractor system
- Peter (8/5): -
- K (6/5): - Central location Parking was not free.
- Nicholas (8/5): -
- Joanna (6/5): Disappointing - The location was good, the decor was outdated, worn carpets, peeling paint, single glazing, just tired.
Needs updating, painting and refreshing all round. Food was good, restaurant was nice. Didn’t have dessert, did not even see an option for it or offered one. Did not have breakfast,as not included and started at 9:30, too late, as I was out for the day by 8. Dropped off keys when I left, no comment made. Just felt like I wasn’t really welcome.
- Veronica (6/5): -
- Christine (6/5): - Position was OK. Nothing else The room was so small, dark and dingy. Quitw claustrophobic. It looked out onto a sloping roof so all you could see was the tiles.
It was so hot but windows didn't open. The extractor fan in bathroom was so dirty. It looked like it was covered in felt.
Then to top that the kitchen extractor started and that went on until 9pm. Terrible noise. In the morning they must have started cooking for lunch and there was strong smell of onions.
The banister on stairs was so sticky didn't like touching it and chairs in bar where we had breakfast were filthy. Just wish I had thought to take pics but just wanted to check out. Manager said we could claim our two nights back through booking.com. Still waiting,
- Raymond (7/5): great location -
- ashley (4/5): -
- Di (5/5): - Its an old hotel
- Ben (4/5): -
- Greg (7/5): -
- Francesca (8/5): - Cute room above the pub Not very clean
- Linda (8/5): Excellent value for money - comfortable room with everything I needed - Location perfect. Excellent value for money There was nothing I didn't like
- ales (8/5): -
- lorenzo (7/5): -
- StueyA (5/5): 4STAR RATING NEEDS REVIEWING.. 2 STAR AT BEST - Rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff were fantastic, constantly asking if we needed more supplies or towels.
Hotel is centrally located in Wadebridge and so travel to Tintagel and other sites along the Westernside of Cornwall (NW Cornwall) are only 40 mins away.
Whilst I didn't eat here, the meals looked lovely and prices are reasonable for Cornwall and the area. This is advertised as 4🌟 and most certainly isn't.
Carpets are worn, beds were OK, but need replacing and the hotel and rooms needs a refurn, with carpets, flooring and paint, as it is really scruffy in parts.
Further, there was no breakfast included in the price nor is there car parking (there is no parking available) and so the nearest car park is a 5-8 minute walk away.
For the price I paid for 3 nights, I wouldn't stay here again, owing to cost, looks and lack of breakfast and parking.
- Casarin (5/5): - Abbiamo trovato delle macchie sulle lenzuola
- Glo (10/5): - Everyone was so friendly ❤️ It was all great xxxxx
- Elisa (5/5): - Posizione comoda. Bagno datato e sporco. Odore sgradevole in camera e nei corridoi.
- Brian (8/5): Enjoyable. - Very good Pay for the parking.
- Linda (5/5): -
- Davinder (9/5): It was a lovely stay and staff were very helpful - Enjoyed my 1 night stay here, very centrally located with shops and eating places. Breakfast was excellent but didnt start until 9.30am which was late for me since I wanted a early start in morning. Room was quite small but ok for 1 night stay,
- Gennaro (10/5): - Tutto perfetto
- Andrew Liaw (9/5): - It's in the heart of town. It's a pub restaurant and hotel. They were very busy and understaffed at the time of my arrival at 5pm. They had to serve the pub customers first before I could get my rooms.
- Rob (8/5): great location - stay here rather than Padstow and cycle there instead - anyone can do it :) - great location, decent food breakfast didn't start till 9.30 - but i didn't pay for it in the price so this irrelevent.
- Lucie (4/5): Could have been slightly better - Room was lovely and warm, and the bath lovely The shower. It leaked badly last year which I mentioned and yet it was still leaking when I tried to wash my hair so again it flooded the bathroom
- Heidi (2/5): - First staff could barely be bothered to show us the room, could not open the door (just gave us the key), at night there was a party downstairs with loud music and later verbal fights in the street till around 1.30am. So not a restful night and cannot recommend for people doing the coastal path.
- Karen (6/5): Room great. Lack of any hotel staff whatsoever on the Sunday morning was rubbish. - The room was as pictured. Bright, with clean and comfortable beds. Good storage, thoughtful fan, nice complimentary hot drinks and biscuits. Nobody turned up for work on Sunday 3rd August apart from the cleaner who was helpful but obviously unable to tell us anything about where the staff were. We met someone outside whi said she knew the manager and phoned her - something about not hearing her alarm go off. Sorry, but coming down at 10am for breakfast is hardly early!
Also communal bannisters were sticky and carpeting on late night entry stairs needs to go in the skip - really grotty and smelly.
- Julie (8/5): -
- Emjay63 (10/5): - Comfortable accommodation. Had a great nights sleep. All good. No problems.
- Nigel (9/5): Beautify Room in the Centre of Wadebridge - Love the yellow & grey design. Comfortable bed and room.Third stay! All good
- Mr. Abhijit Saha (7/5): Family trip to Wadebridge - Sunday roast was exceptionaly good. Just for this we have ho come again. Reception was friendly and helpful. TV was not working. Toilet comode was not flushing well.
- Chattopadhyay (5/5): APPALLING, saved only by the beauty of the place that is NORTH CORNWALL - The location is strategic for exploring North Cornwall. 1. The size and facilities of the room did NOT match the specifications on the site (there was no telephone or bottle of water)
2. The latch in the bathroom was broken and, to be honest, quite neglected by the staff, with excuses that it could not be fixed during the weekends despite us having stayed for almost a week. We had to spend an entire week using a DOOR STOPPER (we also had to ask for this thrice!) There was no consideration of the dignity of guests during the stay AT ALL. Moreover, the cooler and two fans provided in the room were barely serving the purpose of cooling the place or providing minimal ventilation.
3. The stairway to the upper floor stinks.
We would like to express particular concern over the manager of the hotel (female, although unclear of preferable pronouns) and the female more than the male attendants.
- When we flagged up the broken latch, her first response was "Oh, no one else has reported it!"—which has an undertone of putting the blame on the whistleblower rather than accepting accountability. On that note, the staff have repeatedly displayed dismissive behavior when we have tried to place orders at their counter (ignoring us in the queue to entertain other customers, not acknowledging our presence and walking away with no courtesy or eye contact)
As a couple of single, brown women, we are sorry to say that all of this would classify as racist, bullying behaviour with no accountability for one's own shortcomings. ESPECIALLY the demeanour of the manager was purely toxic, insincere and fake.
Overall, a disappointing and for lack of a better word, ABYSMAL stay at the Swan Hotel; the rating overestimates the performance by a disproportionate margin. There's lots to learn for the staff and administration on how to make guests feel respected and genuinely cared for—it probably means a lot more than superficial chit-chat at the drinks counter to just entertain the "beer republic"!
- Graham (3/5): It a proper hotel-more a pub (noisy) with rooms - Clean room-adequate facilities. Management not interested in guests. Fire alarm went off-nobody seemed interested. Noisy bar late on. Bike left where it could be seen from outside.
- TIM (9/5): Lots to do in Wadebridgr - Nice pub stay We had the room at the top of the building so was a little hot
- Chris (3/5): I cannot understand how the hotel is advertised as 4 star. I would give it maximum two. A disgrace to the brewer that ow - The frontage was better than the interior It was dirty, unkempt, sticky banisters, worn out carpets on the stairs, flakey paintwork, tired, seagull droppings on inside of the bedroom window …….. need I go on?
- Alastair (4/5): Not good enough for £120 - Central location It’s in desperate need of refurbishment
Worn out dirty carpets terrible ancient decoration and furniture
It’s sort of fine if your standard is on the low side of a 90’s student hostel
- Francisco (2/5): - PIZA EXTREMADAMENTE CALUROSA, ALFOMBRA DE LA ESCALERA CON COMIDA Y TERRIBLEMENTE SUCIA
- David (8/5): -
- kevin (9/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -
- andrew (8/5): Really nice with a good breakfast - A hotel with a public bar and local clientele No lift
- neil (7/5): - location too warm in the room. no fan supplied
- Mark (5/5): Couldn’t recommend. - The bar and food is good. Room was extremely hot from the kitchen and loud from the kitchen extraction system. Couldn’t have the window open as on a busy junction. Bed was small and shower kept going hot and cold.
- Bergljot (6/5): - Plassering.
- Sue (6/5): An okay friendly pub hotel - The Swan Hotel is Central so no immediate parking available but the is a free overnight car park a few minutes walk away.
it has a good bar, staff and food. It’s lively and popular.
The room had tea coffee etc and its was colour coordinated. Our room was hot but there were fans and the opened window let cooler air in at night.
The mattress and pillows were a bit too soft for us , but that’s personal preference
The plumbing was interesting but worked okay
The paintwork could be due for a refresh
Generally a little tired
That said we had a pleasant stay
