- Lara (9/5): All in all, it was a good stay and the town is an amazing place. - The receptionist at the hotel when we arrived was very nice and friendly. She gave us all the information we were looking for and got us a new room that was on the first floor as there were no elevators. Access in and out of the hotel was great. The river view was amazing!! Easily within walking distance to several eateries. The eggs at breakfast were a little watery . just needed to be cooked a little longer. The yogurt machine unfortunately was not working during our stay. A lot of the shops in town were closed after 7pm so we didn't get to see many of them.

- erinbG5990ZH (4/5): Not clean - This used to be a lovely hotel, with old charm, but very clean and with great service. Since the Best Western acquired it, it has gone downhill. I've stayed there twice in the last 6 months and the result was the same. The floors in the rooms and lobby are dirty (can feel dirt when walking around barefoot in the room), front desk staff are unkempt, and this time, my reservation which I had modified over the phone was messed up.

Especially, when asking questions about May of 2027 booking - he explained that he would be able to contact us when the rooms become available. I greatly appreciate the information. Our room smelled like smoke but still very comfortable. I like that the room had a ton of space for two queens, bathroom and separate sink and area for food and fridge.

The card didn’t let us in the room right away and we had to go get a new one. Upon entering the room we found the beds stripped, the bedding and towels in a pile on a chair and the bathroom filthy and uncleaned. After talking with the front desk the receptionist apologized for the room and clean it herself. She said that we would be credited for the night, of which we never received a refund…
- Mandy (7/5): New changes, and NOT for the better - Location was convenient, staff was hospitable and helpful. The complete destruction of the previous hotel interior- the history; the decorative interior design of the front lobby and rooms; and the identity of the beautiful building- gone. In it's place shoddy craftsmanship, cheap looking carpet and furniture, the odor of stale cigarette smoke permeating through the lobby, straight upstairs- this "new" aesthetic does not match the architectural beauty of the building. Dirty carpets, dingy gray walls, generic furniture, with no thought to design, left a lot to be desired. We would look forward to staying here numerous times a year, for not only the convenience of the location, but for the welcoming, comfortable stay. This was our first stay in the "Best Western", not the "Clarkson Inn," huge changes, and not for the better. Extremely disappointed with this stay- mostly heart broken by the desecration of this former beauty in the heart of this bustling college town. We are contemplating re-booking future reservations elsewhere.

It feels like price gouging and it is disappointing. We had to move to another hotel after one night because the price doubled from one night to the next. Disappointing.

- Bethany (6/5): - We felt like they didn't think things through when they remodeled and made the transition from Clarkson Inn to Best Western. For instance, the bathroom had no outlets and the bathroom mirror light switch was outside the bathroom by the room door. There was no mini-fridge or closet in the room, and we had some medication and food that needed to be refrigerated and clothes to hang. In addition, the blinds on the windows were very difficult to pull down. While they eventually did give us a ground-floor room as requested, they were initially going to put us on the second floor and the hotel has no elevator! It took about 20 minutes for us to finally get checked in. The poor lady at the reception desk was also taking care of breakfast the next morning, and they ran completely out of some main breakfast items, such as eggs. Overall, it was a nice hotel but they definitely have some kinks to work through!!

- 571donnad (2/5): Poorly run hotel - Don’t stay here if you want to get any sleep. They accommodate hockey teams on the weekend and they run the entire hotel. When we checked in we were asked to sign a “quiet hour” form indicating we would be asked to leave if we violated their policy. By midnight I’d finally had it with the screaming and running down the hallways. I called the front desk and asked about quiet hours and was rudely told that there aren’t any! The girl I spoke with (1/17 midnight) put a gentleman on the phone who said he wasn’t aware of quiet hours either, he just came on duty, but he would talk to the coach. I love a good time and I have four grown children, but be respectful people! Guests and workers at the hotel. It’s not right to booze up in the lobby and let your kids run all over the hotel while other paying guests have to deal with it. Shame on this hotel for allowing/ignoring it. Changing my upcoming reservations and heading to the Hilton down the street.

Across the street from a movie theatre and restaurants. Friendly efficient staff. Decent breakfast bar, though one morning hot fare was not delivered, but there were other cold options and good coffee. I’d definitely stay again.

- slate (10/5): Best hotel I have stayed at in years, literally! - This is by far one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. The beds were comfortable, the set up was excellent, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I haven't stayed in a hotel as nice as this one in years. - Amy (7/5): It was a great weekend. - The location is great for what we were there for. Other guests tend to be a bit noisy in the mornings. I suppose there's not much that can be done about that. The location has a lot of large trucks roll through as well.

The beds are rock hard and very uncomfortable and we ran out of toilet paper. Breakfast was minimal. On a positive note, the location is great, the rooms are large and spacious, and the price was reasonable. However, we wouldn’t stay again.

Nice large rooms, very clean, very friendly staff and a great location on the river. However, it should be noted that there is no elevator in the building. If you are put in a 2nd floor room, you will need to take the stairs. This will be a problem for people with mobility issues.

- Deborah (8/5): - It’s right downtown close to everything including the university. Only things were - our fridge still had food in it from the previous guest and they never came in and gave us new towels on second day. They also never indicated they were not going to do that.
- Linda (6/5): - When I booked this, it was a quaint local inn. While we knew there were updates being done to the main floor, we didn’t know it had been completed changed to a Best Western. I sent an email before our trip asking for information, it was never acknowledged. It is sterile and cold. No one at the desk even spoke to us when we went down to get coffee to go. Not even a Good Morning. Not good for anyone needing an elevator. When traveling, luggage can be awkward to get up stairs. There is only a stairway with awkward railings. The bathroom has no safety features at all. Nothing at all to hang on to when getting into and out of the tub. We don’t need ADA but there is nothing. The shower curtain has an easily removable bottom so it can be cleaned but it was caked with mildew. All I can say is that the beds were clean and comfy. Extremely disappointed by their “upgrades”.

Downtown Potsdam, where the hotel is located, is largely deserted, with empty storefronts in most of the historic buildings. However, there is a beautiful riverfront park right next to the hotel that offers pleasant views of the water and surrounding scenery. Also, even though the Potsdam area does not offer boutiques or other high-end shopping or dining options, one can find department stores, discount outlets, grocery stores, diners and practical dining options just a few minutes away by car.

- Jean (1/5): I was told that Booking.com did not send my booking to the hotel and therefore they overbooked. Extremely DISAPPOINTED - I was met with an overbooking and sent to another location. While the other location was fine, this stay had already been confirmed by Booking, and already paid for. I don’t understand why there wasn’t a room for me. Very disappointed!!!
- Katrina (10/5): - The updates to the hotel are great. the rooms are above average size which is awesome. I personally love that there are multiple hooks and shelves to hang items. There was a beside table for the second queen bed. It's like the hotel had heard my complaints from over the years and did it all right here. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. My only slight negative is one of the bed sheets were stained and it just kinda grossed me out. but everythign else was amazing.

- Barbara (10/5): - We lived everything. Clean rooms, supportive and responsive staff, and an excellent location made our stay most enjoyable. Kassia and Brianna were amazing! Thanks to everyone!
- David (8/5): - Staff was nice and knowledgeable. Room was CLEAN and had great space. Bed was a little hard. I would stay here again, the cleanliness outweighs the hard bed.
