Guest Reviews
- Amir (4/5): - First, I'd like to thank you for having this space, where we can share our impressions and protect the unwary.
Everything I've described below is intended as constructive criticism.
The lack of cordiality and poor communication sum up my perception of this place!
Since everything is done virtually, good communication is essential.
The host doesn't respond to emails, doesn't answer calls…! When messages are sent, they're standard.
If you're staying at this place, be aware that nothing can go wrong; otherwise, it's difficult to resolve with the owner.
Not to mention other details like a four-burner stove that only works, no dish sponge, no dish towel… etc.
I don't know if the owner can come here to explain with pre-written phrases that it's good to have this feedback… In any case, I honestly don't believe that, as it's in his nature; he just transmits this personality to his customer service.

- Sofia (2/5): - Would like a refund, it was so gross, didn't look like what I paid for overall. It felt unsafe and the room was so gross I couldn't even lay down in the bed no a good choice so expensive too
- michellelJ6844TE (2/5): Try elsewhere, avoid unless you are desperate - No curtains on the windows, guy opposite sitting on a chair looking in, staff on the phone refused to help and said they were out of curtains for today!!!!!!! Had to sleep with clothes on in 27 degree heat. tried calling 4 times and twice to Booking.com...useless. Spoiled our once in a lifetime holiday. Mould on the walls, plaster coming off the ceiling, oh and this was the deluxe apartment I paid for.
- Anne (6/5): Good location and good price for Zürich, just ok - First I have to mention we were there during a heat wave, without that the stay would have been more pleasant. Our studio was on the top floor, so it was really hot. There is no air conditioning, which I knew, but also the shutters on one of the windows were permanently shut, so we could not create a draft to cool down during the night. Some of the other apartments had balconies, so I assume they had better options for airing out. There is a cute little patio at the back of the house, but we did not stay long enough to use it. The Apartment was facing the busy street with the tram, so it was kind of noisy, since we had to have the windows open.
The apartment is very functional, but a bit worn. Everything was clean, this is Switzerland, but there was no love in the place, just functionality.
Getting the key with the automated system worked great and was very easy, good instructions.
Zürich is extremly expensive, so we were glad we found this place so conveniently located, but for the same amount of money in Hamburg, I stayed at a very nice hotel.
- Roel (2/5): - When I enter the property, the smell in the room was choking me. I could not open the window or that mental thing in the window. Inside was clean but the smell was terrible. It's very far from the train station and the room was all the way from 4th floor or 5th floor without a lift. Very inconvenient for me , especially if you have a heavy luggage . I left after 20 mins in this room, I wasn't happy at all. I emailed Expedia about my experience for this property. I check in to another property which i was satisfied.
- Brooke (8/5): - Die Lage war sehr gut und hatte alles was man braucht
- Oliver (6/5): - Great Location, many good restaurants around, Coop Next Door.
- Christian (2/5): Ameisen…
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pretty noisy rooms and we felt unsafe but clean room and good location
- Anthony (6/5): - It was good for a 1-night stay. Room and shower is very small, not like the pictures showed. But for the price you get what you pay for.
- Pedro (4/5): - This apartment do not meet the conditions to stay .
Tv install to far from the electrical plug
No utensils on kitchen to cook
The bed and pillows unacceptable
The toilet was dirty and smell
Apartment located on 3rd floor with out elevator
From train station to the apartment google map indicate 15 minutes but you have to claim 200 stairs
I never come back
- mychelart (2/5): Worst Experience - I stayed at this facility with my boyfriend and the level of cleanliness was really low. There were numerous things missing in the kitchen, marked as “fully equipped,” and many utensils were dirty when we arrived. The mattress was full of stains and we even found hair. We are also currently having problems with our deposit refund as no one is responding to our emails. Worst experience
- chloeioana (4/5): Find another place to stay - I feel qualified to speak about the steep decline in standards in these apartments after staying here five times over an 18 year period. 18 years ago the furniture and appliances were new, attention was paid to problems and the standard of tenants was good. It was a convenient and clean place to stay and big companies used the apartments for employees relocating to Zürich. However, a lack of upkeep and attention over time has resulted in a gradual decline and I won't be staying here again. Here are some of the issues we experienced on this occasion (believe it or not, this is not an exhaustive list):
Unresponsive management
Double-charged for the booking (which was only resolved by disputing the charge with PayPal as management was unresponsive)
Only one washing machine working (and tumble dryer only partially working)
Heating not working
Fridge frosted over so that the thermostat didn't work, which ruined our fruit and vegetables
Bedroom window not closing properly
Very minimal kitchen equipment, eg only two forks (for a three person booking!)
Broken furniture
Very bare furnishings in general
Many missing lightbulbs, so the place was generally dark
Dirty walls
No iron (though oddly, there was an ironing board) and no hairdryer
Only one single size duvet on the double bed, despite a three person reservation
No handwash
No washing up utensils or dishwasher tablets
Limescale buildup in the dishwasher
Very inconsiderate tenants (a dog that was left alone barked until 4:30am; loud noises well past midnight; other tenants threatened us in the laundry when we tried to use the washing machine)
No instructions or information of any kind; impossible to know who to contact about these issues
The only good things going for this place are the location and price. Cannot any longer recommend.
- albertodV1484HS (2/5): a robbery, or scam, we couldn't lie, and they don't return the money - We didn't like it - it couldn't have been worse, the key didn't open the apartment and even though we sent messages and called by phone NO ONE answered us so even though we had paid in advance WE COULD NOT SLEEP, and we found ourselves at 10 at night, on the street, without any solution, when requesting a refund of the money they did not respond, after 2 weeks of emails sending proof, they agreed to refund an amount, but in such a complicated way, that neither the apartment nor BO...NG, have compliment, a scam, or a theft as you prefer
- Alireza (10/5): - Great location and excellent spacious apartment quite comfortable for a family. Many thanks!
- L3657BZnb (2/5): Worst hotel experience of my life - Absolutely terrible experience. Arrived at hotel late at night to discover check system was broken and about a dozen other guests waiting outside, exhausted, phones in hand trying to get some sort of response by emailing. The check in system turned on again after about 30 minutes, but then was giving out incorrect door entry codes. Eventually gave up and went to a different hotel. They have not given a refund despite completely failing to give me a room.
- genesis (8/5): transportation linked - the location is good. tram station is just in front. from and to the airport, one tram ride away. the hotel needs repair here and there. it is a quiet and seems a safe neighbourhood. there is store in front and bakery by the side.
the laundry area looks dirty, so i did not use them.
- craigkO9300TC (2/5): Worst accomodation ever!! - The bed had hairs on it when I arrived. Sheets were dirty.
There is a church across the road which plays bells every 15 minutes.
The room is awful. It smells really bad. It's nothing like what's advertised in the photos. The room was falling apart.
Don't stay here!!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Perfect if you don’t plan to be in the room - The place was fine. It was budget friendly and close to the city center with a tram stop very close. If you’re looking for suggestions on Switzerland accommodation, a tram stop being close was great. The shower overflows so fast and the curtains are laying in the water. The bathroom is so small it’s hard to function, and the balcony has a huge puddle of water that smells bad. The balcony has one chair that you can sit on if you want to jump the puddle. We didn’t stay in the room much unless we were sleeping.
- Mark (6/5): - No elevator, could not get television to work
- Franziska (10/5): - Very easy checkin
- Diane (2/5): - Liked the fact that the local bus stop was right outside the apartment complex.
Disliked the dirty stairs that led up to the apartment. Once inside, closed the door and the inside door handle fell to the floor. My husband was able to fix that. There were 2 glasses, different sizes, some cutlery but no forks, no bowls, no pots or pans. The shelf in the fridge would not stay in the runners, The bathroom door was badly banged up, the towel rack was hanging and unable to use. The bedroom door, meant as a sound barrier had a panel missing in the door.
I took pictures and if there is a way I will attach them to this review!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Slitent men rent. - Fin beliggenhet med trikk rett utenfor. Rent.
Godt bakeri i nærheten.
- 789amandau (2/5): Dirty place and worse “hotel” ever. It’s not a hotel. - The property was garbage, filthy dirty, disgusting, and I’m not exaggerating. The lobby was full of garbage and the carpet floor was very dirty. We thought that when we got to our floor it would be better because we understand that the apartment owner don’t have much control of what happens to the building, but it was more of the same, and we weren’t prepare for what it was coming inside the apartment. First of all it didn’t have an apartment number at the door, we had to figure out by elimination what was our apartment. When we got in the apartment the smell was funny weird and it had blood in one of the walls, the mini fridge door and the bathroom door had some weird liquid stains on the handle. To make everything better the bed was broken. We tried to fixed ourselves by an attempt to stay at the place but we are not handymen, by then we decided to call the property but no one answered, so we sent a message and took them more then 3 hours to respond with an automatic answer. We contact booking.com and they tried to contact the property as well and no one answer that, so we had to go to another hotel. And every time we tried to contact them to solve this problem with a refund or some sort of compensation for all the inconvenience and frustration on our 3 days vacation trip to Zurich they just ignore. So if you think about renting with this company, just DON’T.
- Rajan (8/5): - we loved every bit of it
- Tsun Sau Adrian (8/5): - The flat I stayed had a good view and its bed was comfortable. However, it was hard to open cover of washing machine and inside of dishwasher had bad smell.
- vanhphone (6/5): - First time in appartement on vacation. I don’t like it.
- Winona (2/5): - The bedding was stained with body waste including menstural blood and urine. There were holes in doors and light fixtures without bulbs. There was nothing to wash or dry dishes with. If we had known any of the above we would not have booked a stay at this property.
- Patrik-Egg (2/5): The house that the cleaner forgot - For the love of god avoid this hotel and company. The rooms are small, filthy and i have encountered rats in the basement on multipel occasions. If you dont mind bad hygiene and worn out furniture this is the place for you. I highly recomend not taking your family and especially children to any of the Swiss-star facilities.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - - die Bettwäsche hatte Flecken
- die Möbel sind zerschlissen
- es gab keine Wegbeschreibung
- Internet ist instabil
- David (10/5): Very clean. Would definitely recommend. - Smooth check in and check out. Prime location near the university district and within walking distance to the city centre. Beautiful views. Spacious and clean interiors. Excellent apartment.
- noemieh364 (2/5): Poor cleaning, windows not closing, cleaning staff took my stuff!! - I went there twice because of the very convenient location (15 minutes walk to Zurich HB) but I won't go there ever again. First studio had a problem with the window in the living room that wasn't properly closing..second studio had issue with the wooden shutter in the bedroom. I had to tie a rope to somewhat close it so that daylight wouldn't enter the room. On top of this the cleaning was mediocre with questionable stains in the bathrooms. AND I came back to the studio one day to find that all my stuff ( my clothes, my food) was gone!! I called them in a panic and they told me that the cleaning staff thought I was gone..well there was food in the fridge and clothes in the wardrobes!! Hopefully the cleaning staff brought me back my stuff after an hour..
- iTravel_experiences (8/5): Clean, simple - Swiss Star Wiekidon Apartment
mit 2 Schlafzimmern Zelgstrasse 19, 8003
Zürich, Switzerland
Not sure if all the "Swiss Star" are the same. The one I am reviewing is for the address above.
-No check in counter or anything.
-After the time you are allowed to check in, you basically use keycode to get in. (so luggage storage was a problem)
-Spacious apartment. Bedroom decent size. Clean sheets
-Small kitchen
We were only there for one night. Would definitely stay here again.
But pictures on the website is not exactly what you get.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cozg stay - Love the kitchen and everything in the room. Pillow is to the softer side but everything else is perfect :) it was fun cooking our own meals and having a cozy place to go back to daily.
Strongly recommend the place to travellers who likes a little walks and hike :) I simply love it
- Verified traveler (8/5): Efficient and convenient - The apartment was perfectly situated for our needs, close to the tram, grocery store and our children’s apartment. Check in was very easy. The place hd everything we needed with plenty of room. Negatives were the bed being very hard, though a few things were falling part, the fridge door, shower curtain fell the management took care of it very promptly. All in all it’s a good deal for a nice amount of space and a good option to be able to have a kitchen.
- Louisa (8/5): - I stayed overnight only thing there was no parking
- randolphh408 (4/5): Good bones, bad management - I feel for Swiss-Star. I've rented from them several times through the years, and they used to be a really great option. But no doubt, competition from app-based lodging is squeezing them, and they've responded by cutting back on everything that makes a stay pleasant, unfortunately.
The good: Oberstrass is at a great location if you're around the University (main, ETH, or Irchelpark). It's right on Tram Line 10 from the airport, there's a little Coop grocery store across the street, and the solid old building is quite spacious. I had a one-bedroom with a huge living room, a comfortable bedroom, and an adequate kitchen. It can get a bit noisy from traffic on Universitätsstrasse, but it quiets down well at night. The wi-fi works fine, and there are adequate outlets to charge devices. The bed is comfortable, linens are clean and changed weekly, and check-in and check-out are easy.
The bad: They advertise these apartments as 'furnished', but that's stretching reality. The furnishings are the bare minimum, and of low quality. The living room, though large, had only a sofa, a lounge chair, an Ikea storage cubby, a small rickety table with four very basic chairs, and a very small TV mounted on the wall that got hardly any reception. There was so little furniture that my voice echoed. Points, though, for nice art on the walls. The furnishing of the kitchen was even less satisfactory. Very basic dishes for 3 (plate, bowl, cup, glass, mug, wineglass), adequate pots and pans, and very little else. Absolutely NO way to make coffee.. not even a filter (I had to buy a Melitta filter holder for a whopping 5 Francs). No pitcher or serving bowls, and the cheapest knives and kitchen tools I've ever seen -- which were dull. I understand why Swiss Star may not want to provide pod coffee makers, given the maintenance... but no pitcher, filter, etc., means there was really no way to make either tea or coffee in the morning, except to use a pan. Ugh! No supplies of any kind, except a nearly empty bottle of dish detergent that I assume was left by a previous guest... I had to buy a bottle.
The Ugly: when I arrived, the refrigerator door made an odd thunk every time I opened it, and by the second day, the panel on the face was simply falling off. I sent an e-mail... they said they'd "alert their team". A week later, I sent another e-mail (by now I had done an emergency repair with some plastic wrap, just to keep it from falling off entirely and causing more damage). "Yes, we'll alert our team..." Yeah, right! Two weeks of gingerly opening the refrigerator every time because of the defect. The lounge chair was also falling apart when I arrived, with screws falling out, but they did send someone to repair that, when I let them know.
Overall: the prices are competitive with app-based lodging, but be aware that the furnishings are bare-bones. I'm reasonably hardy and just put up with the inconveniences, especially re coffee... but I really think their corner-cutting has gone too far. Next time, I'll probably use the app... the prices are comparable, and you usually get a much better equipped place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view from our balcony was breathtaking. We could see for miles; all the way to the mountains. The sunset was unforgettable. I made use of the washing machines and dryers in the basement. The walk to old town was doable. But I wouldn’t recommend trying to get to the apartment with luggage without a taxi. We ascended four huge hills on our drive. And the walk to and from the city center is loaded with staircases. Then, there are the five flights of stairs to climb without an elevator. While the room was not overly large, it had everything we needed, except an elevator (but the view made up for it.)
- KCWK2 (2/5): Awful - Avoid this hotel at all costs. Pictures online are deceiving. They say they include toiletries like shampoo but they give you 2 small bars of soap that small like the cherry porta-potty smell instead. The rooms are like a torture chamber with no ventilation. They give you one small fan which does nothing. My husband and I stood in the hallway for hours by the open window since the room was at least 10 degrees hotter. It was literally the most miserable nights we had in Europe, and we’ve been traveling for 6 weeks. Do yourself a favor and learn from our miserable mistake. STAY ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE.
- AlisonCarminke (8/5): Convenient apartment near a tram stop - When you book the apartment, you receive a link to register and get a keycode. You can then use this code to collect your key when you arrive at the apartment (check-in from 2pm), and post your key back in the same automated box when you check out (by 11am).
The apartment looked very close to Zurich Hbf on the map, but in fact the walk was all uphill so I'd recommend getting a tram from the train station - there's a stop directly in front of the apartment and you can get a 24-hour ticket for the same price as two singles. We were happy with the area; there was a bakery next door and a supermarket opposite. We didn't notice any noise apart from the church bells chiming on the hour. We were there on a Sunday, when most shops and restaurants were closed, so you may want to consider that if arriving on a Sunday and pick something up from the station.
The apartment itself was clean and minimalist. There was a double bed, a TV, wardrobe, table, bathroom with shower (towels and shower gel provided) and a kitchenette with dishwasher. We were only there for one night so didn't cook, but there was a small stock of utensils to cook basic dishes. The bed was comfortable, the temperature was good, our room on the third floor had a balcony which looked out over the city. The free wifi connected and worked without any issues.
The apartment building doesn't have a lift, so take this into account if you struggle with stairs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good budget option - Good budget option for the area in Zurich but there is some variability with the rooms. The top floor/attic unit is a bit strange but huge. On the third floor smaller but I find the layout better. Showers are pretty tight so keep that in mind if it bothers you. Also there is no elevator or front desk/luggage storage. All units have a pretty functional kitchen which is useful for an expensive city like Zurich. Location is good. A short walk to the old town (note it is uphill the way back) and quite close to ETH/USZ
- Russell (2/5): Terrible service - beware - locked out for hours - Read previous reviews about being locked out as no reception. You need a code but as I found out as well as 3 other guests while I was there and other reviewers, the code doesn't work always. Staff on phone rude abusive. Took 2 hours to gain access. $25 taxi fare from train station. Need to make international call to get access to room. Loft room so unless you are a midget you can't utilise 70% of the room. Dirty, old, ripped towels. Only 1 small single size blanket for queen size bed. Fan in bathroom stays on and is noisy. Had to climb 5 very tight flights of stairs with suitcases. That's after being told by staff to go to wrong building and climbing 4 flights of stairs. Just read the other negative reviews before booking and beware of the rude swearing and condescending person on the phone when you ring.
- Noajthan (8/5): Comfortable apartment and good location in safe neighbourhood - Just to clarify, this Swiss Star apartment block on Universitatstrasse is in a good area of the city, near the University.
There may be other apartments in a sketchy area but this is definitely a safe and family-friendly location.
The apartment block is on the number 10 tramline, about 25 minutes from Zurich airport (Kloten - ZRH). By tram it takes about 10 minutes to get from the apartment to the city centre, to Central and Zurich HB stops.
Nearest tram stop is Winkelriedstrasse and the Swiss Star apartment block (yellow building) is just across the road.
However do note there was some tramline construction work during October so sometimes the tram going in the airport direction (out of city) did not stop at Winkelriedstrasse.
In that case simply alight at the next stop up or down and walk about 3 minutes to the apartments.
The construction work was a little noisy at times, but only on weekdays, after 7am and it seemed to stop most days around 4pm. There was no work during the weekend when we were there.
The apartments have no reception staff so to check-in you obtain your key by entering a keycode (provided by email) into a keybox by the side entrance.
The single key that is provided is tagged with your apartment number.
Keep your key with you for the duration of your stay.
Note if the key does not open the main entrance door (at side of building) there is another entrance door at the back.
There is no elevator so you need to be able to carry all your bags upstairs if the apartment is on a higher floor (as ours was).
The block was quiet and we didn't really see or hear any other residents during our 6-day stay.
The single room suite we had was comfortable, with a basic kitchenette and a separate bathroom. Several towels and some soap, shampoos were provided. As its a self-catering apartment you can ofcourse provide or buy your own supplies.
Simple cooking is definitely possible with what is provided.
There is a Coop store just across the road and a good restaurant (Linde Oberstrass) is only a few minutes walk up the hill. Also a bread shop.
Note Coop is closed on Sundays.
The nights were drawing in at the end of October but the radiator heating system worked well enough.
The apartment windows only had lace curtains on them but also had roller blinds for privacy at night.
The wifi service was easy to access and the speed was reasonable (instructions posted on the wall by the apartment entrance).
Obviously it would be prudent, for security and privacy reasons, to use a VPN on your phone, tablet or laptop.
Note the apartment did not have any fire alarm or sprinkler system.
The only escape route appeared to be down the stairs.
Overall the apartment proved to be a safe, family-friendly and convenient base for visiting and exploring Zurich. It has good transport links plus local shops, restaurant and bank in the immediate vicinity.
The comfort level was consistent with that of a student type apartment, with reasonable supply of towels and toiletries.
Check-in (& out) was easy. The lack of reception staff was not an issue.
- E Kim (8/5): Zurich fully equipped apartment hotel - If you are in decent shape, you can easily walk from the central Zurich train station- it is all uphill. Easy to get groceries across the street. On tramline which goes to airport or just use central train station to access airport. We had two great walks from our hotel. One down to Lake Zurich and another up into beautiful neighbourhood and hilltop park.
- Roberto (2/5): - I never gonna back to this hotel, they show photos of different room, I feel injured, paid for one thing and got another, the room stank of mold, had fleas and flies, I do not NEVER recommend.
- 855jesst (4/5): Location isn't ideal - I'll start with the positives: It's easy to get our fobs to access front doors and our apartment doors.
We had one studio apartment and one 2 bedrooms apartment. Both apartments are spacious with small kitchen. Some of the utensils look questionable though.
Rooms are also very clean. The studio bathroom is tiny though but that doesn't bother us.
The Zurich HB is about 10-15 mins walk about on the other direction from the centre of the red Central district which is good.
There is also a free wifi!
Now the negative: the apartment is located in the red district area. We didn't feel safe at all and I tried to ask for a change of location as I found that Swiss Star Apartment has a few other locations but they said no.
If you have children or travel with just your girlfriends, you might want to really consider the location.
Also the noise can be awful and it goes on till 5am, especially on weekends. There is no AC or fan in the room so in summer it's a problem. Open windows mean you probably won't be able to sleep. Close windows mean stuffy room.
- Edna (10/5): - Except from not being air conditioned, pretty pleased with cleanliness and being convenient to transportation.
- MARIO (10/5): - Awesome location. 15 min from central station
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Never saw anyone so there wasn’t a way to get the tv working.
- Daniela (10/5): - Vielen dank
- Tony (8/5): Useful location for University Conference - Everything as expected by the booking file and appreciated confirmation number to obtain the room key from automatic check-in.
- Chris (8/5): Nice place in a good location - The apartment was as advertised in terms of amenities and location. It was about 15 minute walk from the Zurich HB main train station, and about the same to old town area of the city. Even with no reception, the automated check-in process was very convenient. When I arrived the apartment had not been cleaned, but I think that was because I had just booked it the previous day so the staff had not updated their booking schedule. I called the 24 hour customer service line, and they had the cleaning staff there within 20 minutes, so it was not much of an inconvenience. Overall, it was a great stay and I would recommend this place to others.
- shanegrace (8/5): Great Location - just no parking - VERY CONVENIENT! Walking distance to the centre of town with a great view of Zurich as you walk down. Tramline right out the front takes you to centre also. There is also a handy grocer right in front of hotel also (called Coop). Great cafe down street also 'Bakery Hausammann' - good coffee and pastries.
Quiet area. Parking is difficult like any big city. We found 2 hour parking nearby but kept having to move the car. Parking is free in most streets from 8pm until 9am the next day though - so if you don't mind parking your car out in the street.
Self-check-in was easy
No noise from trams can be heard from room.
- Niesa Amor (8/5): Very strict 11am check-out!! - Stay was okay.. a little bit hard to walk up to the very last floor when you have heavy luggages. There is small supermarket by the street, 27mins always by tram from/to the airport. Check out are very strict to there time of 11am and takes them 1 day before replying back so I suggest messaging them 1 day ahead.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Filthy - It's not a hotel it's a chain smokers place full of garbage no elevator we didn't stay we took off and went to ramada hotel it's not worth a penny Swiss star wrong name it's a filthy dirty place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Waouw ! - Very easy to get and return the key with the safe box.
Huge appartment with bedroom, sitting-room, kitchen and bathroom.
Very close to the centre, university and main hospital.
Public transport and shop at the front steps.
- Anthony (8/5): Zurich appt. Stairs but OK - This is a great cheap alternative in Zurich. We were unlucky to get three flights of stairs with no lift and that created issues with the wifes knee. If you are young and fit ( we are well over 60) then this is a gem. The cleaners are not great. Old receipts from previous guests, an old towell in the cupboard tend to make you think careless or sloppy but the place is OK. Full kitchen and walk 20 mtrs to Tram
- Verified traveler (6/5): Apartment 15 minute walk from the tourist area - Nice to have an apartment because you can buy and cook your own food. Zurich restaurants are very expensive.
- Prashant (2/5): Never ever stay at this property - The apartment did not stick to the code of keeping the key and even did not bother to inform me the new code. Horrible service, bad condition of the flat. It's not advisable to advertise such a property on hotels.com
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Basic apartment. Clean and good value for money.
- Neeraj (8/5): Comfortable and lovely stay in the apartments - A very comfortable stay with all amenities provided in the apartment and supermarkets and bakery within 1-2 mins walking distance.Convenient location with a short 10 mins tram ride direct into Zurich Central HB station.
- Verified traveler (6/5): affordable and barely acceptable - Spider webs in the bedroom...
Mix and match items in the kitchen cabinets. Missing items don't seem to get replaced. 5 fancy kitchen knives but no cutting board. A salad strainer but not a single bowl, etc.
Damaged furniture (living room table).
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not worth it! - Terrible service! I don't know if it is a hotels.com issue or the people renting the apartment! When we got there, we have to key in a PIN to get the key to the apartment, we have done this on a previous visit to Zurich at another apartment and the PIN was in our booking confirmation. For this particular booking, we were not sent any PIN for getting the key, their mailbox states that you need to key in the last 4 digits of the booking confirmation as the PIN - which we did and it didn't work. We had to call the number displayed on the mailbox, on international roaming to get a PIN (which was no where close to the last 4 digits of the booking confirmation) for the keys! It might seem like a simple thing to do but it is annoying if you have been travelling and it is snowing when you are stuck outside with bags and no idea about the key. The room was ok, clean but felt older than it seems in photos. The location was fairly okay with the central station being a few tram stations away and about 15 mins of walk down the hill. The only good thing was the tram station was steps away, so we didn't need to carrry our bagpacks too long. If you book earlier, I think Zurich has much more options and better apartments at the price - this was certainly over-priced. We have had a very nice apartment in Zurich on our previous stay 2 years ago at a much lower price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Nie wieder...
Møbler slidte men anvendelige.
Ansonsten gutes Preis/Leistungsverhaeltnis
- Verified traveler (10/5): - wonderful place, wonderful service.
- Rebecca (2/5): Don't Book This - This was a terrible booking. I chose Swiss Star because they said they were 50 meters from the Zurich train station IT WAS NOT. It was a very long walk up several hills. Luckily we found some helpful strangers to show us the way. there was no one at the hotel to voice our complaint. In addition, the room was on the 5th floor, no elevators. It was an attic that had slanted ceilings which meant it was a very narrow room. One step to the right or left and you hit your head which I did twice. Supplies were at a minimum. No sheets, just a mattress pad and a heavy duffet. AND no AC. The weather has been in 100's and they could not provide a fan??? ALSO the room pictured on the website was not what we got. THIS DUMP WAS A TOTAL rip-off and deceptively presented. They should be banned from your website. How do I get a refund?
- Riddhi (6/5): Good location near public transit - Good rooms. But wifi did not work..
No service but location was great...
- Raigi (10/5): - Lovely little apartment. We enjoyed our stay!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There is no service person n the apartment or recieve my phone call while I was checking on Sat., so it took me some time to know how to get the key. No bathtub in the room so maybe should not put the bathtub picture in your advertisement.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A good budget stay for Zurich - I would definitely book this hotel for my next short stay in Zurich, if the price doesnt go up:) I chose this hotel because I knew the area, easy access to the train station, the national museum, the university, the river, the cafes and parks..from other reviews I couldnt get a clear idea of how the experience would be, but considering we were only staying for one night and the prices very reasonable so I went for it. It turned out to be a good experience, everything went smoothly, the hotels right by the road, near the tramway/bus stop so it was easy to spot, after keying in the code (from an email earlier by the hotel) on the keybox device we got the keys to the building and our room(number on the key tag). The size of the space, the kitchen and the balcony were definitely a plus, especially with the balcony you have an open view of the city (not the perfect view but quite impressive considering the location is a bit back on the hill). And a good size supermarket - coop is right across the street. My only complaint would be about the double bed, it was soft but not a good size for two persons, quite squeezed..I chose a one-bedroom room, Im not sure if that means only for one person because that will be ideal. We took train so I didnt know much about the parking situation. All in all, its a good choice if you are looking for a budget stay at a good location with good space.
- Jasal (6/5): Good studio with a twist - This is a apartment . ..self catering including reception.
The walk is steep. There is no elevator. Be prepared to carry your luggage to 4 or more floors.
There is no way room change can happen in case there is a problem .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The apartment was really great. The only criticism I have, is that from the outside the building looks really run down. I was a little worried when I saw the place from outside, but the worries vanished as soon as I got inside! It was really spacious, with a big flat screen TV in the living room, a fridge, dish washer, etc. The grocery store across the street was an added bonus, especially since it's a pretty steep walk from the center (if carrying bags). Although there are trams which stop right outside, which go to and from the airport (really ideal). I would definitely stay there again!
- Thomas (8/5): Swiss Star Universitätsstrasse - nice little apartment, with separate bedroom and living room, small kitchen and bathroom, nice couch to watch tv
- Thomas (8/5): Apartment Universitätsstrasse - the apartment 41 under the roof reminded me of my apartment in a villa I lived in 15 years ago, thanks for brining me those memories back, clean, spacious, all you need, and cheaper than most hotels
- Verified traveler (4/5): won't recommend - no one ever told us that we need a 5-digit passcode to get the key from the key box outside the building. We only found this out from the reviews on hotels.com. the apartment didn't inform us after we booked. At the end, we had to
The decoration is quite dated.
- Khairul (6/5): OK to stay - It was an OK experience. Specious but heater was not turned on it was cold. Little complicated to get in as no reception.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dont expect hospitality from Apartment Swiss Star - Apartment Swiss Star's staff is not customer friendly. Seems they are more after money. Customer service is terrible. They are not fluent in English (only some knowledge). They try to avoid or neglect even your serious queries.
They debited my credit card for more amount ($417.14 instead of $401.60) without telling me ever any reason.
Do not expect hospitality from Apartment Swiss Star Staff. Be careful. Protect your Credit Card from them.
- allywooo (8/5): Great location, huge rooms, but way too hot - We really enjoyed our stay at this location. Large rooms, convenient location, Co-Op grocery store across the street. Overall it was a really great stay and would recommend it to anyone. Only problems we incurred was no nearby parking, we couldn't turn down the heat, leak under the kitchen sink and couldn't check in until 2pm as they have an automated system that won't dispense your room key until then.
