Guest Reviews

Senti me em casa
- Markus (7/5): pretty and quiet location - very quiet location rather basic beds, matress
- Bianca Ladina (7/5): - Our room was very nice with high ceilings and the beds were really comfy. Altough the father of the owner seems really nice, there is a significant language barrier as he didn't speak english. We could make it work with french, but beware of misunderstandings.
- Carlos (8/5): - Bien El agua caliente
- Mardi (1/5): Not up to the standards of the ratings - The view was really the only good thing about this place The smell in the bedoom - mouldy, rising damp.
The smell in the bathroom was even worse.
There were visible signs of mould and damp in the room and on the broken blind in the bathroom.
There were no windows apart from one in the door, so no airflow and NO air-conditioning.
The beds were very uncomfortable, and sheets were stained.
We sat outside for most of the time we were there, but even the outdoor furniture was in a state of disrepair and falling apart.
Overall this was nothing like the reviews I had read but we booked it last minute, so maybe the back house is the overflow.
- Lorenz (10/5): Exceptional - Charming bed and breakfast, we had room number 9 with a beautiful view of the sea.
The room was airy, clean, comfortabel and well equipped, there was also a mini fridge and a space outside we could use.
It‘s a calm place, you mostly only hear the chirping of the birds. Its a great location to explore Pico with a nice piscina naturalis within a 5 minute drive (we had a rental car).
Breakfast is optional for 10€ per person, we found it to be well worth it with fresh fruit, avocados, fresh bread, pastries etc.
The host gave us tips about a Festa nearby in Sao Roque which took place when we were there, he also is the director at a local news paper.
Really happy with our stay with Jorge!
- Gerda (4/5): Disappointing - Nice Location, friendly Host No housekeeping for three days
- George (9/5): Amazing location… About 3 km from town. You need a car or it’s a good walk to get to and from. The host and management w - First off the staff… And Rodrigo were incredible. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful stay… It was very kind and helpful and even gave us a ride here and there. He and his father are doing a great job with the property. Great property.… It’s a older restored home with a lot of history. Great value.
- Gerald (9/5): Superb -
- Evi (4/5): Disappointing stay - The only thing we liked were the Cagarros-Azores night bird we could hear at night. The room had a smell of mold that made you cough and it was full of humidity and ants. There was no internet connection. My messages were not answered while we stayed there and the oldest French owner that answered the phone was very impolite.
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hana (8/5): Very good - The location was fine and the price for the service was reasonable. The stuff was very friendly It was very wet inside. The room didn't really correspond to the pictures.
- Hilah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grassetti (8/5): Very good - location, room, bathroom no air conditioning
- Edny (10/5): Beautiful and authentic - Amazing views from the top house, very clean, autentic and the owner was really nice!
- Jane (10/5): Charming & peaceful place to stay. - Old world charm It's a bit isolated we had to drive 10 minutes to the only nearby restaurant
- Maximilian (10/5): Exceptional - Owner is Always willing to Help. Always a nice stay there. Amazing View onto the "Dragon" Sao Jorge
- Jakub (9/5): Superb -
- Neda (7/5): Good - Old fashioned house with a touch of history. Our room has his own exit. We didn't order breakfast, but we can use a kettle for making our own coffee The room has smell, and was cold.
- Gomes76 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pieter (4/5): Damp and moldy - The air was very damp and smelled like mold. There was indeed some black mold on the shower curtain and on the window curtain. Everything felt slightly damp in the room including our pillows. It was therefore extremely uncomfortable and hard to sleep. We woke up in the morning feeling nausea presumably because of the disgusting air. There was also a door to the outside that rattled loudly every time a gust of wind blew which also made it hard to sleep. Overall I would recommend finding different accommodations if you can. It may have just been a problem with this one room though
- Camerra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kateřina (9/5): A peaceful stay in a Portuguese style - I enjoyed the lovely Portuguese style of accomodation in a very calm and quiet area. Everything was superclean and very well maintained. I loved the dining room and its view to the patio. The view to Atlantico was breathtaking as well. I liked everything in this accomodation
- Jana (4/5): Book other accomodation - Internet and beds. Musty and damp room, which is located in a detached old building apart of the main building. The access is via irregular stairs, with no lighting and slippery when raining. Definitely not easy to access, moreover if you have to take your luggage with.
The view which is so highlighted by the owner by other reviews is definitely not worth it - you will find much better spots on the island where you will be willing to spend time watching the ocean/Pico.
Very bad light in the room and because there is also some old door with no insulation, you meet a number of insects/beetles in your room.
There is a separate fridge in a “cellar” which we haven’t used (see photo).
@booking.com - correct the description:
1. When booking this accomodation, you sent an email that they do not accept cash -> I assumed they accept cards then. But they don’t accept cards and push for a cash payment already during check-in.
2. Mention in the rooms offer, that people can be put in a detached building which is not easy to access. It would be fair to let people know this fact.
- Diana (7/5): Good - The property is nice, with nice view and in a very calm area. I think for this price, it needs some improvements, some things are old.
- Maud (9/5): Paradise! - The location of the hotel is like paradise!
It is nice, clean and quiet. Also is the staff very helpfull! Without a car it is difficult to reach.
- Jim (9/5): A great spot to explore the island of Pico from. - On a quiet side street.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Owner was very helpful
- Fernando (10/5): perfect place to relax - free shuttle service from local town, transport hub.
- Arfruu (7/5): Good -
- Emil (7/5): Good -
- Anton (8/5): Nice accomondation in Pico - + Rodrigo and his family were always very helpful.
+ Room was comfortable - It was hard for us to communicate as no one can speak English very well.
- If you want to go for dinner, the next Restaurants are more than 3 km away
- Andrej (9/5): Superb -
- Matt (8/5): Nice hotel - It is a very nice hotel decorated very tastefully. Also has an excellent sea view. The only issue we had was the room was a bit musty and mildewy smelling probably because it is on the coast and the ventilation isn't very good. They were also very nice to let use check in at 10 AM.
- Maarit (6/5): Eating fasilities - The room was a little dump, wonder that maybe we were rhe first visitors after wintertime. In the first night the bed feel dump and cold. The breakfast was okei. The commodation was far a way from anu restaurants or so. Could it be possible have information about nearest restaurants, snack bars and so on. There are not so many places to eat in Pico and the accommodation only have the br eakfast.
Also it has to be said in advotising that guest have to have a car to get in there and to anywhere from there. Luckily we have rented a car, which we normally don' t have.
Is it possible to have a grill in the garden or something?
Excellente adresse, on recommande.
- Krister (8/5): Pico - Mycket bra, lite utanför m härlig utsikt.
- Rasmus S (8/5): Godt hotel med meget rart personale. - Godt hotel.
- David (10/5): Lovely Stay! - Roomed in the master bedroom with an ocean view for four nights. The room was enormous for two people! Washroom is freshly renovated and the breakfast served every morning was satisfying. You'll need to rent a car to get around. The closest town is two minutes away by car with a grocery being five minutes away.
- Andrew (8/5): Quiet coastal retreat - We wanted a quiet retreat for a short stay on Pico island. The shuttle from and to the airport helped us make the choice, as the hotel was on the edge of town, on the hillside overlooking the coast and Sao Roque harbour. Conditions were very quiet, essentially out of season, but we were very well treated by friendly staff.
- William (10/5): Fantastic B&B - An exemplary experience. This family run B&B is immaculate and the helpfulness of the owners and staff is fantastic. I could not recommend this place more highly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely restored guest house - We had a very nice stay at Casa Do Comendador. The house is beautifully restored. The room was lovely and modern. The beds were very hard but that seems to be the style in the Azores. The location of the house is not very convenient if you do not have a car. You have to drive to get meals and for activities. The breakfast that was included was really terrific. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We were able to use the wifi and they have a computer for guest use. Overall a great stay.
