Guest Reviews
- Paul (8/5): Very nice room and all of the staff were very nice and welcoming. - I didn't have breakfast as left before it was served. 8am is quite late to start a breakfast and doesn't accommodate for many people staying for work. Earlier breakfast
- Guest (9/5): Very nice. - Room was very nice, food was good. It would have been good to have a selection of food at breakfast, cereals, juices etc, which I have often seen at similar establishments.
- Mark (9/5): Loved it - Very friendly and attentive staff. Nice surroundings, great music, big bedroom and very comfortable bed. Clean linen and room.
Lovely breakfast. There was no soap, not even for the toilet. It needs that at least.
- Tracey (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel, the grounds, the staff and the food were all amazing, we will definitely be returning. Nothing
- Glenn (10/5): great stay went for friends birthday - breakfast excellent also dinner in restaurant very good too staff could not do enough for you also great service . nothing
- Sue (10/5): Great food, accommodation and welcoming staff. - Quiet country location, in a lovely setting.
Excellent breakfast and the menu has a good choice using local produce.
We had 2 evening meals and everyone in our party said how tasty the food was. Portion sizes were generous and excellent presentation.
Decor of the rooms including bar and dining areas are well thought out.
It was a big birthday celebration and they made a fuss of the individual concerned which was lovely.
All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Nothing.
- Ian (10/5): - Could not find any fault
Food excellent
Staff excellent - professional and polite Nothing
Everything was above and expectation
- karen (10/5): Lovely - Food & atmosphere Everything was good š
- karen (10/5): Friendly place to stay and enjoy delicious food āļø - Friendly staff. Lovely restaurant food was delicious. Room was lovely. What makes this place is the people and the informal friendly atmosphere. Well done everyone
āļø āļøāļøāļøāļø There is nothing not to like about this place š
- Sally (10/5): - The staff, food, hotel, location were amazing. N/a
- Will (7/5): -
- James (7/5): - The luxurious, period feel of the accommodation. Being woken up at 6am by a fire alarm and not receiving an apology or any compensation. Staff were no overly helpful at breakfast or when checking in.
- Suraj (9/5): Lovely place - Clean , unique Ideally need a car to get there
- Margaret (9/5): Thoroughly recommend this hotel - Good location, lots of car parking, very friendly staff. Really nice quiet room with good facilities and a really good breakfast. N/A
- Derek (9/5): - Excellent location Excellent breakfast Short drive to Wroxham good base to explore the Norfolk Broads would stay again!
- Michelle (9/5): Felt well looked after. - Great hotel with lovely setting. Good atmosphere and the food at dinner was excellent.
- Guest (8/5): - The fan from the kitchen was running all the time so had to put ear plugs to get any sleep. Staff were all very friendly and hospitable and breakfast was very good. No noise from the kitchen fan in our room.
- Michelle (8/5): Trip to the Broads - The location was lovely.
As was the hotel The only thing I thought that let the hotel down was the garden near the hotel. There were a lot of items that looked like they had been just thrown. Bins pots. Litter. A bin That was full of dog poo bags. It hadn't been emptied for quite a while by the look of it.
It's such a shame, really, as the hotel is beautiful, but that let it down for me
- Zoe (8/5): Convenient, comfy & convivial - The staff were approachable and accommodating. The room, restaurant and bar were all spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast was well cooked and tasty. The only downsides to our stay were the noise coming from the music system in the bar and the speed of breakfast service, which was slower than anticipated. Although a certain level of noise is expected when staying at a pub, the music was carried through the floor late into the night and started again before breakfast service began, which we found disruptive.
- Bethany (8/5): Very good -
- Muthyala (8/5): Pleasant stay in a friendly hotel - Location, friendly staff, parking, nice breakfast and dinner Room decor pleasant but stairs down to bathroom and a short 5ā 3ā still managed to bump head. Need padding or a big sign! Noisy vent outside and as it was hot , an issue when opening the window.
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (3/5): Lack of clear comms ref: breakfast start time of 8am and dirty bathroom. - The location is beautiful. Nowhere on Booking.com or their website do they state that they only start serving breakfast at 8am. I was travelling for business, therefore this is of no use to me. When I queried this I was told that somebody would attend from 7.30am for me. When I came down for breakfast nobody knew of this and I was advised that their kitchen staff had worked in the restaurant until 12am the previous night. Are you a restaurant or a hotel or both? I was told that they only start serving at 8am. This should be clearly detailed on their website and any secondary platforms. To boot I found multiple human hairs, not of my own, around the bath. Resulting in me exiting the bath as quickly as I could. I will not be returning.
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Charles (7/5): Ok - Dinner was very good Breakfast was okay ish. A little slow to be served.
Donāt take the cedar room if you are over 5 ft tall!
Small bedroom with a very low height stairway into the bathroom.
- Gill (8/5): Great food in a lovely location - Great food. Kettle blew the trip so no morning tea
Very noisy when we went to bed (noise from terrace)
- Warren (10/5): Wonderful stay on our special day. - Our families had a super stay, booking all six rooms for after our wedding meal in the restaurant. All the rooms were different, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Good breakfast choices the following morning. The food quality for both the evening meal and breakfast was excellent - as you'd expect in a Colchester Inn venue.
All the staff we had dealings with were wonderful with a special shout out to Ange who helped us organise things from from day one. Nothing
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is so well thought out, plenty of parking, the hotel is beautifully furnished, the staff was so lovely and acomadating and the food arrrh so so good !!! And amazing for the price š š
- Gerard (8/5): Very helpful and polite Staff - First Class Breakfast also the a nice evening meal
- Carolanne (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful furnishings, setting, friendly staff, generous breakfasts. Wonderful altogether. N/A
- Anita (8/5): Very good - Very clean Need plug sockets near mirror had to move everything so could dry my hair hairdryer kept stopping got soaked when washing hands in sink as tap needs adjusting also on booking.com it says bottle of wine included but was advised by hotel this is misleading happens a lot as my 60 th would have been a nice touch but the lady did bring me a piece of Brownie cake with a candle it which was nice gesture
- Helen (9/5): Nice rural location and excellent food from pub below. - Excellent breakfast. Very comfy bed. Sounds from pub could be heard in the room.
- Doug (10/5): Made the weekend a very pleasant experience - Location, style, atmosphere, pleasant & efficient staff. The food was exceptional Steps down to bathroom, being tall my head got in the way!
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerry (9/5): Superb -
- Batey (9/5): Superb - Excellent food
- Lee (10/5): Would stay again like being at home - Location staff Cleanliness decor bar and restaurant
- Anonymous (9/5): Lovely place to stay. Quiet, lovely staff, good sized room. - The hotel was lovely, nice decor. Room a good size, large bed, lots of storage. Dining room lovely. Our meal was delicious, and generous portions. Best thing was the staff. Every single one we we encountered - cleaner, bar staff, waiting staff etc were so nice and welcoming. I was quoted £110 on Trivago, then when I went to give card details , I was transferred to booking.com and the price had changed to £120 ??
Only slight quibble, bed too soft for my husband!
- Steve (8/5): Lovely place would recommend - Food and staff were amazing !
Very clean , friendly staff , comfy bed No Biscuits on tea coffee tray ( most places have these )
Bathroom a little small
- Mark (6/5): Pleasant - Location Shower had black mould and shower attachment was cracked and split open so getting it to remain in place was frustratingly difficult.
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Food was excellent. Huge portions of very good food. Very buzzy dining room at dinner which would suit many but a little loud for us.
- Raffaele (9/5): Superb -
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Brendon (6/5): We would not return ! - Well decorated and furnished No Perception of a travellers needs !
Entrance was puzzling and booking in was through the restaurant. No chair in room . No cup for toothbrush. Nowhere to put anything whilst in bath /shower .
No biscuits .
The en-suite down some stairs, had a light which woke each other up each visit !
The extractor outside the bedroom window was very noisy in the morning.
No written room directions for the hotel - Wi-Fi access - food - timings of breakfast etc
The waitress in the car on our first night didnāt ask us if we needed any sauces or condiments and we had to ask for everything - not trained !
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Kerrie (10/5): Excellent Highly Recommend - Very welcoming, staff lovely, bedroom clean and tidy. Food 5 star delicious. If ever we are up this way again, we would definitely return. Nothing I didn't like
- Michelle (10/5): Great people, lovely place and excellent food - Hug breakfast great evening meal but drinks were more expensive than most pubs but only a small downside to what was a great stay Nothing!
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good food - The bed was way too small, food was very good Bigger bed, having to walk down the stairs in the middle of the night to go to the loo isn't really satisfactory
- Mark (6/5): Location and the stay enabled us to catch up with family members as that was the important part of the trip - Setting and location, bar and dining room areas inside and out are well presented. Staff were were friendly and attentive to our needs Unfortunately the Cedar room is next to an extractor fan that comes off the kitchen. Mattress was not comfortable. No chair at the dressing table. Room needs a refresh and a good spring clean but understand there are not many rooms.
- Linda (8/5): Very good - Excellent staff and restsurant superb lovely location had slight issue with room but was dealt with lrodesdionally and we will certainly stay again Room dusty but issue dealt witb and will stay again x
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy (7/5): Nice stay celebrating a birthday. - Food, location, staff To didnāt work, tea tray and mirror were dirty. Banged head going downstairs to bathroom. A sign is needed to warn guests.
- Janice (8/5): Great hotel in a good location for exploring Norfolk. - Lovely old rectory set well back from the road in pretty grounds. Restaurant was very good, staff were friendly and very efficient. Portions are huge so choose wisely if you have a small appetite. The bathroom was very small and cramped with nowhere to put wash bags etc. A common problem with hotels. No full length mirror, again another common problem. The shelf above the sink made it difficult to wash your face in the basin. Small things but they could be put right with a little thought.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Vacuming/music in the bar at 8am (Sunday) below our room
- Geoffrey (10/5): We stayed one night it was nice and comfortable and the staff was great - The Breakfast was great with plenty of choice
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hugh (9/5): Very welcoming and delightful location - Food and staff were excellent. Everyone helpful and supper was really great. Room too dark and nowhere to put all the unnecessary cushions and throws.
- Lloyd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (7/5): Good - The hotel and staff were lovely.
The breakfast was amazing.
Overall the room was nice, however
it was dusty complete with cobwebs and under the bed needed vacuuming.(I wasn't intentionally looking, I dropped something and it rolled under). Also, this is my husband pet hate, there was water in the kettle.
Maybe just a little more care needed in preparing the rooms needed.
- Laurence (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was great Nothing
- Carl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (8/5): A comfortable stay - The bedroom was clean, comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. Breakfast started at 0800 so I didn't experience it as I needed to leave at that time. I did however receive a refund for the breakfasts I wasn't able to enjoy that I'd paid for. Noise/voices from the bar/restaurant were quite loud as my room was directly above, but this ceased around 22:30 on both nights of my stay. There were also loud voices from smokers standing outside below my bedroom window. I was informed that breakfast started at 0800. I didn't recall this being advertised, so I didn't experience it as I needed to leave at that time.
- Robert (10/5): Excellent attention to detail to make you feel welcome - Location as expected from previously visiting for meals. It was good many years ago and now even better. Although it didn't matter to us we had expected the room to have been been attended to after we had left the first day. We did like every else from the staff/service to the decor and food food.
- Anne (5/5): Disappointing - Itās a lovely building, bar - restaurant area was decorated well and was clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was lovely. Unfortunately we had to move to a sister pub as the drinks cooler fan was so loud in our room - wisteria.
We didnāt eat at this restaurant as the ambient noise was so loud we couldnāt carry on a conversation at a normal volume.
- Lesley (8/5): Relaxing comfortable stay that leaves you well fed!! - Stayed before it is an old building with complementary decor and furnishings. Friendly exceptional staff and a fabulous restaurant with enormous portions! It was very warm in the room overnight despite two windows being open- found a fan in the morning!!
No tea on the tray for refreshments which was disappointing. Didnāt raise it at the time.
- Ferguson (6/5): Pleasant - Restaurant is beautiful settings
Breakfast fantastic Room was ok but on looking further stained cushions
A table with a tray is quite dangerous especially when using a kettle
The table is not big enough to put the tray on
Tea wasn't replenished or any of the condiments
No hairdryer
Only one plus socket behind the lamp is very difficult to get to
But I will say the other part of the stay was lovely
It wouldn't put me off , just observations
- Peter (10/5): The lodge and staff are great!! - Breakfast , bar, restaurant and food and service and staff all were wonderful and went the extra mile. The rooms could do with an uplift, extra storage space, a chair in the room, a Nespresso coffee machine and bottled water. 2-3 extra pillows in wardrobe? A biscuit or cookie for tea and coffee?
- Sheers (9/5): Fabulous hotel, staff and food was amazing - Great location and fabulous restaurant Slight wearing the room but nothing to be disappointed about
- Colin (9/5): Excellent stay and the food was amazing !! - Very nice friendly hotel all the staff were lovely Room slightly dusty and little tired
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic room comfortable bed breakfast amazing dinner exceptional
- Michael (9/5): Overall a nice place to stay - The meals were excellent and breakfast was sufficient to last us all day. We could not fault the quality whatsoever. The only fault we can report is that the speakers playing drum and base in the restaurant ceilings just below the flooring of our room (Ash)do not cease until 00.30.
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (9/5): Very good - Canāt fault it Staff excellent well trained
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Excellent staff need credit nothing was a problem - Staff were superb, very attentive and nothing was a problem. Very impressed. Everything was superb. Customer service was excellent.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvia (8/5): Great if you want amazing food and good customer service. - Lovely atmosphere, staff very accommodating. comfy bed, amazing food definitely if you love your food stay here. Lovely views. I imagine itās lovely in summer sitting on terrace as gets the sun. Fire in bar lounge lovely in winter.
Itās very popular restaurant so very noisy but nice atmosphere. Itās quieter if u go early for lunch or later. Room was cold. No where to put your toiletries in shower. Need a jug in room to fill kettle as does not fit under tap to fill.
In Beech room itās extremely noisy. You hear all music and talking from bar until well after it closes. Then again early when they are setting up and hoovering. It really echoes up through floor which is a real shame as we wouldāve liked a lay in after being at work 8 days straight.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): very enjoyable night away - very good service and excellent food nothing
- Michelle (8/5): Brilliant breakfast - Set in lovely grounds and the room was lovely bit smaller than we thought as we had upgraded .Breakfast was amazing. Our bathroom was down some stairs but as you went down I hit my head ,I am not tall 5ft8 but no warning sign .
- Liza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anmarie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tariq (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jancie (8/5): Lovely stay - The rooms had names and very big.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff were really friendly.
Quite refreshing not staying in a chain hotel. Walking through the restaurant whilst guests were eating to check in.
- Lesley (10/5): Relaxed atmosphere with wonderful ambience - Such character and a feeling of ādecadenceā Nothing!
- Graham (7/5): A great night away, with fabulous food - Staff were very helpful. Check in was really easy and we were shown to our room straight away. We were asked if we would like a table for dinner.
Breakfast was included and was one of the best I've had. Checking out was easy.
Food at the Lodge was out of this world, an experience not to be missed. Internet code wasn't provided in the room, but due to a good 4G signal I didn't feel the need to case it up. It would have been helpful to have it displayed.
Mattress was old and uncomfortable. Every spring could be felt when you lay down. This was the only thing that let the room down, but should be addressed for comfort of guests that pay the premium price.
- Uter (8/5): Very good - The location was great, lovely staff and wonderful food The shower head was broken and the mattress was very uncomfortable, needing replacing.
- Martin (8/5): Enjoyable and reasonably priced. - The food was quite good and reasonably priced. The bed was quite small and the mattress wasnāt firm enough.
- Leander (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room. Comfy bed and nice hot shower. Always a pleasure to visit The lodge which has the most amazing restaurant.
- Ian (9/5): Friendly and professional staff made the room and public areas a treat to stay in. We will to return - Excellent quality and quantity. Only a very small thing. A shelf in the shower to put products on and towel rails for the lovely towels.
- Wright (9/5): Best food.ā¤ļø - What more can I say. Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant location. Very reasonably priced drinks and food. And as for the food, all I can say is excellent. Top quality produce and beautifully presented, definitely a 10/10. Rooms fine and clean only downside for us being tall would be the beds. Brass bed ends so slightly restricted as small double. It's not a negative, just me preferring a slightly bigger bed.
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely place for a family getaway - Choice of menu Would have liked to have been given more tea and coffee at breakfast
- Ann (8/5): A comfortable night with a very good meal. - We liked the quiet location, well appointed room, comfy bed and pillows. Ability to park on site free was appreciated. The evening meal we had there was excellent and the serving staff were polite and helpful despite being busy. When booking with booking.com we did not realise that cookies and bottled water were not available. They are available with other bookings apparently.
The bathroom was very tiny compared to the one in the room we had when we last stayed at The Lodge.
The waiting staff could have training on the wines available as we were given the wrong bottle although the price was adjusted for us as we had ordered a cheaper bottle. Also liqueurs were not known by the waiting staff and they had to go to find out information.
