- AEM59 (10/5): Hotel landlord saved the day! - I booked a twin room through Hotels.com and had confirmation 2 days before arriving. I arrived at the venue only to find there was no such booking. The landlord went well beyond just being helpful informing me this was not uncommon with Hotels.com. When I tried to contact Hotels.com to rearrange I got nowhere. However, the landlord took over usig a different contact number and we were accommodated close by. Tony was excellent and his chosen charity has received a donation.
- TraceyHiles (4/5): Wouldnt bother if i was you ! - Stayed here a few years ago and it was lovely. Not sure whats happened since ? Stayed in room 3. Family room with 3 beds. We arrived to find ONE towel and ONE coffee cup ?? Asked at the bar for extra as two of us.(.Never materialised so that was marvellous ! ) Had to go in kitchen for a cup ourselves. Bathroom had sliding door on it that virtually fell off when you used the the bathroom so we had to let each other in and out. Scruffy extension lead on dressing table for lamp. Whole room had really strong scent of marzipan for some reason I still cant fathom. (And probably dont want to) Radiator hanging off..telly broken. Plug in heater that was covered in dust. Breakfast was between 8 and 9..went down at 8.10am. Kitchen empty and the fella arrived after us to put lights on and cook. Few saucers to do your toast on not plates. Half a carton of pinneaple juice out in bench. with instant coffee sachets n a flask of boiled water. Other guests asking for plates and cups etc throughout the half hour we stayed. Abolutely shambolic from start to finish im afraid. Only plus was the lovely friendly girl on the bar. Shouted into the kitchen when we left shall we leave keys on bar. """Yeah"" he said..probably didnt dare ask how our stay had been. Seriously cant imagine how any owners could try LESS than these .. Wont be back !!

On arrival we were told that aswell as the normal menu a Christmas menu was available, and that they could set the table with xmas crackers. A few of us had the Christmas menu, big mistake!!! No Xmas crackers on the table!! The food was basic to say the least, the worst Xmas Dinner we've ever had. Starter came with bbq sauce (not Cranberry as the menu said). Main totally tasteless with a soggy Yorkshire pudding. We waited ages between courses. Nobody came and asked if everything was okay. We really should have complained on the day as it was a complete rip off.
- davidwV3404DL (8/5): Station hotel - Arrived early so decided to ask, how early we could have the room. We were met by the manager who was really nice and helpful. Said our room was ready and gave us a card along with instructions, about the room and door locks. 👍But we decided to walk around the droving parade stalls first We had room 5 which was ok for the price,fresh towels laid out. Tea and coffee making on hand, could have done with a few more tea bags ,as I like a cuppa 🤣🤣The shower was ok with plenty of hot water. Wardrobe had plenty of hangers. The bar and restaurant we're busy. The breakfast the following morning was really good, with a good selection, the full English was great along with amble toast. And plenty of cups of tea. Only negative was bits on the floor,when we did enter the room. Location was brilliant for the town and we had a great view of Penrith castle. Parking on Morrisons was ok which cost us £3:60 for 24 hours. Plenty of others used the same XX at park. I would visit again as we we're made welcome and the hotels in a good location.

- davidaN3308HS (6/5): Please Sir WHY cannot I have a small breakfast more? - (Without prejudice) This Railway Station nearby hotel Ideal for Rail travelers. NO LIFT however Three Flights of stairs however staff kindly carried up cases. Room okay, beds very comfortable, nice view of Park and side of nearby castle. Staff apparently stingy with basic Breakfast food. Disappointly REFUSED one extra egg with English very moderate Breakfast. Disapointed NO Coffee Machine, just little packets of coffee for self help use , virtually akin to say a youth hostel..
- cruising85 (8/5): Dated rooms at the moment but lovely hosts & breakfast - First impressions were the room was a bit dated & the sliding door into the bathroom was troublesome it would stick and you had to lift it on the runner, the bass were comfy & slept well until the traffic noise work is. The lady on reception when we checked in was friendly & offered advice on parking & if we were familiar with Penrith. The breakfast was great a selection of cereals, juice followed by a very nice full English. We have stayed in nicer rooms in the past but then been served a poor breakfast. Talking with the owner Tony he told us they were gradually updating the rooms we would definitely visit again looking forward to seeing how they are getting on with there plans. We wish them luck.

Rooms a bit small,the bulky "antique"furniture makes them look even smaller so reducing the furniture would give them an airy feel. Good view from my room. There is no lift so can be difficult for people who can't manage stairs
- Sicipi (4/5): Not clean and noisy - I stayed at the Station Hotel after arriving in Penrith off a late-ish train. The customer service was great - a member of staff rang while I was on the train to explain how to enter after hours, and when I had trouble, another member of staff was at the end of the phone to help out. However, the single room I had at the back of the hotel was not clean - the bedding and shower had been freshened up, but the secondary glazing had fallen down, there was mold on the curtains, grit and crumbs on the carpet and chest of drawers, and stale milk and spilled coffee grains on the shelf with a dirty mug. The extractor fan from the kitchens below was also so loud all night that it was hard to sleep even with earplugs. For the same price as a Travelodge and more than a room at the YHA, I would definitely recommend staying elsewhere.

You are told where the cutlery is and to help yourself. I have never been to a restaurant before and had to help myself to cutlery! I definitely would not recommend the food here.

They used to do really lovely food which is why I suggested to my wife to go, must admit it’s been a while. £8.95 Cumberland sausage and chips which was disgusting. 2 small sausages and oven chips and a rubbish egg I was shocked. Spoke to a staff member who wasn’t interested and neither was the owner who just smiled. Won’t be back
- paulwA3975IR (2/5): Dreadful experience! - I booked through booking.com to stay for one week. When I arrived the Manager told me that he had taken over the business recently and Booking.com would not release the previous records to him. Booking.com state that he had access to the records but it was the Managers'responsibility to inform them of the change of ownership. Someone is lying. The Manager should not be a Manager. He could not run a bath! How would he feel? It was too short notice to get anywhere else and so I have had to come home. He should stood there with a glib smile on his face. Pathetic. Do not even pop in for a drink at this place. Disgraceful!!
- Marc (2/5): A DUMP, don’t stay here! - Awful hotel, quite possibly the worst I’ve ever stayed in! I think I prefered camping!! The beds didn’t look like they’d been made since the previous guests, had a kettle but no tea or coffee, 2 remnants of toilet rolls, damp everywhere in the bathroom, cracked bat panel, mould all over the bath, wallpaper peeling off, the bedside drawers were ON the bed! I could go on but I’m making myself feel ill, I need another shower after staying there. Don’t do it, sleep in your car first!!!!!
- mermaidq2023 (2/5): Naff food.. - We went in for Sunday lunch as a family. Paid for 3 adult Sunday lunches and a child's lunch the food is seriously lacking in taste . The beef was horrible the chicken was like type you put on sandwiches, the veg was the frozen type used for a stewpot , no peas cauliflower was not bad , the gravy you could lay bricks with. Only thing was OK was the mash potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding needs a still saw to cut through. The staff was lovely the loos both womens and gents was immaculate and the whole place was spotless it was just the food was naff
- Ian (6/5): - This is an old property and the rooms are from a different age. The bed was terrible (lumpy) but the bedding was lovely and the room was perfectly adequate. Nice view of Penrith Castle and a decent breakfast included.
- Susan (10/5): - We booked last minute as we were tired with still a long way to drive home. We were welcomed by the owners and got our key quickly. They said they had only owned the hotel about a year and were gradually doing it up. The bar is listed and absolutely beautiful. Our room had everything we needed after a quick shower we had a great sleep. Breakfast was included in the great price and was top class. Hopefully we'll wander that way again and would definitely stay at the station hotel again.

- Tourist59072399744 (2/5): Avoid at all costs. Not as advertised. - No hot water in taps. Shower thermostat also broken. As was TV aerial. Used old biscuits left in cup by kettle. Used towel and mould in wardrobe. Loud drunken Karaoke past midnight. Billed as family friendly hotel when I complained manager asked me what I expected from a pub. Carpet in room was sticky. All in all pretty grotty. I wouldn't take my kids anywhere near there.
- hardraine (2/5): Poor - Sorry but the Sunday lunch was poor. It seemed to supise them that we asked for a Yorkshire pudding? The food was bland and poor quality and we were told, give them a couple of weeks and it will be better, they are trying to get rid of the old stock. You get one chance to make a good impression, sadly you did not. I do empathise as we had a pub back in the day, and I generally don't give bad reviews but. It was not good.

Very accommodating, staff kept my lunch in their fridge. Beds were clean and comfortable. Lots of towels albeit thin and somewhat tained. Plenty of courtesy shampoo, etc. Pub in the reception area, can take a beer to your room. Instant coffee, tea, and a few packets of tasty cookies in the room. Overall good for a brief stay of a night or 2 but lacks charm and is somewhat dilapidated nd randomly furnished.

Totally filthy, black mould, masive cobwebs dust everywhere, sanitary bin never been emptied and smelt vile. Shower didnt work, very very noisy, offered drugs on way into the building, noise continued till 3am, when leaving the following morning no one about at all and had to jump over sick in the porch and outside the door!! Seemed like a place where some wild drug fuelled events took place!!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place, but missing a few things - Hotel was very good - check in was easy and the staff were friendly. The kitchen was closed, so we did have to go elsewhere for dinner which wasnt really an issue as there was another pub just down the road. The room was nice and comfortable. A few things maybe werent the cleanest and missing a few amenities like a bar of soap and a 2nd towel. But was an ok place to crash for the night, as we were staying halfway between the Highlands and our destination in Oxford.

- 781gloria (10/5): Four Poster Bed A Surprise - The ladies that run and work here are very friendly. They bend backwards to help you, nothing is too much for them. They explained where to park. But as we had motorcycle we could park on street directly outside. They asked if the room was ok and everything was alright. They really looked after us. My husband and I only stayed one night to break up journey to catch ferry from Aberdeen to the Shetland. So the four poster bed was a surprise and nice touch after our long journey to this hotel from Hertfordshire. Room was lovely and quite roomy. The location is central to the town. We had a meal in town, but came back to drink in bar at hotel and saw the huge portion sizes of the meals the customers had. We wished we ate here!!! I highly recommend this lovely hotel.

- Nicola (8/5): A little gem. - The Station hotel is an old building and the accommodation is above a busy pub. The room was clean and tidy with all the amenities you would expect. The decor is shabby chic but that is in keeping with the building. We were a bit worried about the noise from the bar and the busy road outside keeping us awake but this was not the case as the bar closed promtly and road noise was minimum overnight. We were in Penrith for an event so didnt eat in the hotel but the menu looked good and was reasonabky priced. We only spoke to 2 staff members but both were friendly and very helpful. We would definitely make a return visit to this hotel.

- Andy (8/5): Does what it says on the tin - Ok. Clean but tired decor. Service was a bit abrupt and I think ÂŁ8 for a bowl of cornflakes was a bit excessive. I was given a free pint of guiness to make up for the lack of breakfast due to my leaving time on a sunday.

- Chris (8/5): Overnight stopover - Street noise was the biggest annoyance. After 23:00hrs noise from the bar faded and was fairly muted in the room anyway. Drunks in the street woke us several times during the night, and noisy boy racers. Lack of parking close by was an annoyance, necessitating a trip to a public car park 10 minutes walk away. Both dinner and breakfast food was excellent.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Station Hotel Penrith - Room quite nice and comfy. Bathroom wall with disturbingly dirty smears. Noisy, above bar and next to a loud road, rows and revving engines. Served its purpose but would not return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overnight stay. - This is a Pub B&B with 3/4 rooms with adequate facilities and comfort for an overnight. Main drawback is the lack of parking, in fact there is'nt any and the nearest public car park is about 500 metres distance. Somewhat of a problem for anyone with much baggage that is needed for the stay.

- Tatyana W. (6/5): Rooms above a PUB - Nice old building. Original stain glass windows and lovely antique furniture. Tired bathroom, no shampoo - just the shower gel. Noise from the busy PUB till midnight. Breakfast from 8AM at the earliest - too late if you want to be at GoApe Grizedale by 9 AM.
- Graham (8/5): Basic, but fine for a place to stay. - Just used the hotel as a place to stay while visiting friends at Center Parcs, so cant comment on anything about the hotel, other than the room was clean, everything worked and it’s well located near the town centre. Only real down side was the lack of parking, and you had to park on the street, wherever you can find a space. Other than that, the stay was good value for the money I paid.

- Gordon (8/5): A nice hotel - I stayed here for 1 night only but I really enjoyed my stay here.Being 2 minutes walk from the railway station was perfect for me as i have a walking disability. There is a superstore across the road which was very handy and the town centre is a short walk away. The check in and check out at the hotel was very quick, Breakfast is an optional extra as with evening meal.Staff here are very efficient and helpful

- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be Better - Positives & Negatives. Positives: Staff and Management very nice and helpful, lady who does the breakfasts very good. Negatives, Parking, we were aware beforehand there was very little (3 spaces outside the hotel) parked in pay and display car park a few minutes away. The downstairs of the Hotel Bar & Restaurant well decorated and clean. That’s where it stopped, stair-carpet could use a clean, room a lovely size but very dated furniture and décor (Beds were clean). There was ground in dirt around the windows and the shower. Also this is the first time when booking through Hotels.com that we were asked to pay for the whole stay on arrival; we had no receipt except creditcard stub and were asked to pay for breakfast upfront as the lady who cooks does not take money. It’s a successful Pub so attracts lots of youngsters so was noisy at closing time.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Station hotel - Breaking up our journey from Edinburgh, stopped off in Penrith. It is a popular pub and therefore in our room we could hear the singing and banter . However at least our room wasn't by the ladies toilet, ascseen on otger reviews. Plus the Windows didn't stop the traffic noise.

- Verified traveler (10/5): A warm welcome awaits. - We saw a formidable building on the outside. But where greeted with such a warm welcome once inside. The room was warm and clean. We had only booked a double room but it came with an extra single bed. The bathroom was large but still nice and warm. Although with a little damp above the bath. Which was nothing to worry about as my wife commented 'It is nice to see that we are not the only ones with the same problem'. It was hear where we actually read about a fix using tea tree oil (worth a look up). We came down for a bar snack/light bite which was probably the same size as a normal meal, only cheaper. But the flavour of the fish was so nice. I know it sounds daft but you could taste the fish. My wife had chicken and said it tasted good as well. The next night we had the Tapas and had 4 dishes. Trust me you only need that for two. The flavour of all the food was so good. It was a pleasant change to eat food that you could actually say to the waitress that everything was okay. There was also not to long a wait for the food even when busy.
