Guest Reviews
- Thaily (10/5): - As a solo traveler, I felt like this lodge was perfect! I felt safe and comfortable. A great sunset view from backyard. Host, Mina also made sure it was clean very day. Mina was so sweet and helped me know closet restaurants, and grocery stores, etc. Definitely enjoyed my stay.
- Graciela (10/5): - I came to this place because Fare Maheata which In paid until 31st made me feel uncomfortable…a very beautiful place… not tidy with a rude manager
Si I left early and it was non refundable
Vaianae has a very comfortable room and a great kitchen… it is very well kept and it is a great beautiful area with mountains and garden… not a good besch. It is great for those with a car and who like to cook and a quiet relaxing environment
The owner snd Mother are very helpful. There is a nice supermarket near and they have bikes for the guest. I enjoyed this place.
Í detested Fare Maheata… noisy no kitchen where to cook. Built by great people but now the management is bad.they knew I was upset and they cancelled me so there woud be no feedback…
Great Vaiaenae Lodge
Terrible Fare Maheata
- Jacqueline (6/5): - Positives:
- spacious bedrooms
- spacious kitchen for guest use
- parking onsite
- deck to sit out on
Negatives:
- very difficult to find. Need signage out front
- photos of room during booking process a bit deceptive. Shows bathroom, leading one to think you room has a private one. It doesnt.
- host not responsive pre-stay via Expedia; must WA him
- host not engaging
- host was to have lent me a bike so I could cycle back the 16km rom returning my rental car. I told him what time I needed to leave by, and asked if he could help load the bike into the car. Well he was a ''no-show' and instead was out shopping. Not reliable. At least he apologized.
- there is no swimming beach at this location
- nowhere comfortable outside to sit and enjoy the view. Only a picnic bench, which gets wets when raining
- no amenities in area
- description states kayaks and bikes available for loan, though he seemed a bit reluctant.
Summary: okay stay, nice facilities. But I felt more like an inconvenience being there more thana valued guest. I think this really is more suited to surfers, not solo female travellers who may need a bit of guidance.
- E4281NAwillg (10/5): Incredible - can't recommend enough! - This place is incredible! Beautiful property with an incredible oceanside view from the elevated platform right on the water. You can snorkel around pristine coral that is just a quick swim or paddle from the Inn and see the Haapiti surf break from the platform (binoculars are helpful unless you are Tama, the owner and expert, and can judge the surf with naked eye from a distance).
Tama is incredibly friendly, hospitable, and helpful and works hard to keep the property in its incredible condition. He can answer any of your questions, make recommendations on hikes, restaurants, etc., connect you with others around the island, take you surfing, and give you great local information. His English was great - some of the best I heard in Polynesia after being there for nearly three weeks.
The accommodation itself is very nice. The kitchen has everything you need to cook (buy your own groceries of course), and the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable.
I can't recommend this place enough - it is one of the best deals you'll find on the island!
- V9311UYgabrielc (10/5): Highly Recommend - Amazing place, amazing host, great location, can’t say enough great things about this place. I will definitely be back! Thanks for letting us stay on your families beautiful property and for everything else Tama!
-Gabe
- PabsDiabs (10/5): This place is the best - My fourth time here and I’ll be back. What’s there not to like. The price, the cleanliness, the knowledge, the location. The best poisson cru place is across the street. It’s quiet. There are SUPs to cruise around. There are bikes. This last time we didn’t surf but Tama took us out on his boat for a private cruise. It was like nothing you can get from a commercial big hotel.
- Exploration403965 (10/5): Great sherpa to the waves of Moorea! - My group did a surfing expedition with Tama. He provided an excellent experience hosting us out to the reef, keeping us safe in the break, and hosting us for lunch upon our return. Highly recommend him specifically for these services. The B&B itself looked good if you are looking for a place to crash near the surf
- M8718LTmelaniee (8/5): Moorea Surf Inn - This is not a resort like a Hilton or Meridien but in many ways it is much more than those places can ever be. Everyone on the island we meet in Moorea seem to know Tama and his family and we were lucky to stay with them here and experience the real Tahiti.I found out about this place through waterways travel that only sells the top exotic surf and travel destinations. The surf and bay are incredible and we got to surf next to the French surfing olympic team and that let's you know you are in the right place. Yes it is hot and bring the mosquito spray but what we learned from his family and the amazing conversations we had with them and the International guests from all over the world far outweighed any of the minor hardships.I found a lot of strength in myself I didn't even know I had just by being there, both in the surf, and at The Surf Inn with them. We will return again soon to stay and surf with them again.
- JB_va_nc_ca (10/5): So Surfy, So Awesome - The Moorea Surf Inn was excellent! Tama is so friendly and welcoming and his place is very clean and comfortable. The surf was incredible as was the snorkeling. His property is very well maintained and the waters in the lagoon in front of the property are stunning and full of sea life. We really enjoyed meeting the other guests that were staying there too. Tama showed us his island in a way that you would never get to experience staying a resort. I highly recommend the Moorea Surf Inn.

- Imane (10/5): - Family owned. Clean and quiet. Amazing sunset views!! Super friendly and flexible. Would definitely Come back !!!!
- Haaheoauweloa (10/5): Tama is an excellent guide! - Went on his surf tour and had a blast! The swell was pretty big (I’d say some 8-10 ft faces). Tama gave me the lowdown on the spot (where to sit, how the current and riptides worked, etc) and I had a great session. He also kept a close eye on me from his boat which was comforting as I was nervous surfing this new spot. 10/10 would recommend!
- mauratravels1111 (10/5): FANTASTIC * COZY * GREAT PLACE TO RELAX & ENJOY MOOREA - WOW! The family that lives on site is Wonderful, the Inn is clean, and terrific ammenities with a nice kitchen , great bathrooms & showers, kayaks, bikes and caring people that make you feel at home! THE WATER and snorkeling are excellent and nice evening breeze with gorgeous sunsets over the water1 I also met other awesome travelers, surfers and sweet families there1
- Cole (10/5): - The hostel is on a beautiful bay and there are boards and kayaks for exploring. The place had a great vibe and staying there sort of feels like being at a cabin.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value for money for the budget-conscious traveller. As well as a private room to sleep, there is a communal lounge and kitchen if you wish to socialise with other guests. Tama is a friendly and helpful host who provides kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and bikes for guests to borrow on request and has good knowledge of local surf and snorkelling spots.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Value for money is the key here , when you compare with other spots this one is away from the overly touristed areas , close to the surf and Tama made us feel welcome and comfortable , also runs the boat to the surf .
If you want 5 Star you can pay for it , If you want 5 star value and 5 star relaxation on a budget this is the spot .
Thanks Tama
- Daniel (6/5): Hay que encontrarlo - Muy mal señalizada su localización. Si lo encuentras es tras mucho preguntar. Por lo demás, todo Ok.
- phyfeh (8/5): Surf, relax and enjoy the company - Moorea surf inn is more community than hotel. The compound sits right on the water with perfect views of the sunset. Tama is incredibly nice and accommodating. When taking people out to surf he is conscientious and thoughtful, which I needed being a first time reef break surfer. The best part about this place is the other folks that gravitate there. It's a mix of surfers from around the world and business travelers from Tahiti. One night we all hopped into the van and want out for dinner. Some quick notes; The wifi is strongest in the kitchen, it's hard to find the entrance to the inn (no sign, and lots of vegetation) so avoid looking for it at night, the location is south eastern edge of Moorea which is near Moorea Fun Dive and lots of restaurants (best poission cru was Restaurant Arii).
- 491evanf (10/5): 5 Day Getaway - We had a great time staying with Tama! We were did not surf but got to check out the island (must have rental car or scooter) and meet some other cool people staying at the lounge. We will definitely return if we make it back to that side of the world! Thanks again!
- Lisatahiti (8/5): Business trip wish I could have had some leisure time! - Ia orana I am French American living in Tahiti for 17 years now. I came to Moorea on business for 6 days and this B&B was ideally located between the different places where I had to be. It is a beautiful all wood built home raised on stilts split Tahitian style between different fares (little houses). There are 4 bedrooms and 2 shared bathrooms. Everything is very clean and my bathroom was huge as it can also accommodate handicap access. My queen size bed was very comfortable. Dinner was included for me so Tama cooked himself, daughter and I family style healthy dinners! I loved the deck on the lagoon's edge where early in the morning I would drink my coffee and watch the sun rise before going to my meetings. Wifi worked well but slow. I loved meeting the other guests who at that time were all American and surfers of course! Super friendly atmosphere, Tama and his daughter are adorable. Tama is very attentive to your needs without being omnipresent. There is a lot to do and I really wanted to head out to the reef to watch the surfers and snorkel but... work kept calling! So next time I will come just for fun and to vive Tama's daughter a hug!
- Pithacus (8/5): Delightful place. - I wanted a place to stay which was located close to the most iconic Moorean surf break, Haapiti. Moorea Surf Inn is family owned and has a charming vibe. Tama runs the show and was a very considerate host and surf guide. The place is right on the lagoon foreshore. Stand up paddle boards and kayaks are available free and provide a great way to cruise the lagoon, dropping in for a snorkel when you feel like it. The backdrop of rugged mountains is spectacular. Accommodation is simple but clean with shared bathrooms. A great place to wind down and relax (or go hard with activities) if you don't need all the accompaniments of a big hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Access to Surfing and Paddleboarding - The owners were great and the location is wonderful (though a bit far from restaurants and the ferry terminal). I'd recommend renting a car. The wifi is fast and the easy access to the beach for paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, or snorkeling.
- Lurking808 (10/5): Awesome Place, Awesome Family and awesome Host !!!! - My wife and I had a few days to kill before our French Polynesia Cruise so we decided to stay at Moorea Surf Inn. Tama is a great Host, well educated, speaks many languages and truly loves his islands!!! Great places to eat nearby, free bikes to ride to beaches and Lunch trucks(best pizza ever). Tama's place is right on the water with great views of the surf and sunsets...One day it rained so Tama offered to take my wife and I mountain biking in the volcano and ended with dinner with him and his family... this is a beautiful place with beautiful people! I highly recommend staying with Tama @ Moorea Surf Inn...ALOHA
- suneilthomas (10/5): Great spot, great time! - Tama really goes out of his way to make your stay on Moorea and at the Moorea Surf Inn as fun as possible. If you are a surfer, he will get you to good waves (some pretty heavy if that is what you are looking for...). If you are not, there are still numerous family friendly adventures that he can coordinate for you (hiking, snorkeling, mountain biking, whale watching, golf, ATV riding, etc....). Very laid back/casual B&B atmosphere (i.e., not a fancy place), but clean/comfortable and on a beautiful piece of coastal property.
- MikeH5164 (10/5): What a great spot! - I really enjoyed my stay at Tama's B&B. Tama was a great host, cook, surf guide and buddy for my stay. He was very knowledgeable about Moorea, the surf, food, etc. I can't wait to go back. My recommendation to any potential visitors is to know what you are signing up for accommodation wise (i.e., fan cooled, open window setting, etc.). Otherwise, you are in for a real treat!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice budget option - Nice B&B and a great host, but the B&B is in a remote location. It's a good idea to rent a car as the town is not really reachable by foot or bike.
- marteerob (10/5): Solo and 70 found the spot! - This is a backpackers delight. I am 70, do not surf, but snorkel and loved hitch hiking. Wonderful tri-language host who speaks fluent English. I went solo on this trip and was always comfortable. The island and people are gentle. Tama and daughter were enthusiastic but allowed for time to reflect. This is no a Hilton- it is much more with comfortable people who share the real Polynesian life. Just do it!
- Mat (8/5): Great b&b on the southside of Moorea - My wife and I had a wonderful time staying with Tama and his family in Moorea. The family live in their separate bungalows with a bungalow built for guests and one in between as a communal kitchen/dining room. It is excellent to live with Tahitians and get an authentic experience of life in Tahiti compared to big hotels where you are surrounded with tourists.
Tama made us nice breakfasts and gave us plenty of information on what's going on in Moorea. He is the surfing guru of Moorea so if that's your thing you will be in heaven. There is excellent snorkelling on the outer reef if you take the kayaks out with your gear.
- 765stefk (8/5): Welcoming and laid back atmosphere - We really enjoyed the stay at the B&B. Tama was friendly, made delicious breakfast with fresh fruits and helped us planing our trips.
Make sure you have your own car or scooter to get around, because even the tour operator advert with "free pickup" they will not fetch you at the B&B, its to far away.
Unfortunately there are only two kayak which were mostly occupied by the surfers to paddle to the reef break. There is only a reef break to surf no beach break.
I missed some more chillout places like hammocks or beach chairs. Internet is below island- speed, we weren''t able to plan our trip ahead.
- albert (10/5): Hotel alme, loin du circuit touristique - Tres sympa, propre, super petit dejeuner. Un tres bon B. Loin de tout une voiture est neccessaire pour faire le tor de l ile>
- hluhning (10/5): A wonderful stay - I can definitely recommend this B&B - Tama is a knowledgeable and personable host, and it is truly a family-run establishment! The property is beautiful - it is in a relatively quiet part of the island, but that's exactly what I was looking for. There are bikes and kayaks free to use, and stores and activities (beaches, and the Lagoonarium!) can be reached by foot or by bike. If I return to Moorea, I will stay here again. Merci, Tama!
- SuvaraS2 (8/5): Wonderful B&B in Parasdise! - We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at the B&B with birds chirping everywhere, breathtaking sunset and view of the mountain. Tama was an awesome host who really went above and beyond for us. We did not have a rental car for the the two nights that we stayed there and Tama was kind enough to drive us around to give a tour of the island and wherever we needed to go to. So accommodating! Thank you so much again, Tama! We can't wait to go back to Moorea!
- V7793GUericb (10/5): Great surfing experience in Ha'apiti - Ha'apiti is a long left reef break on Moorea.
Tama was recommended by the Hilton Moorea as a high-quality surf guide.
Tama responded quickly over email to my request and was timely and professional. He picked me up from my hotel and drove me to the Moorea Surf Bed and Breakfast. He had an assortment of surfboards that were in good shape and we brought a surf quiver on the boat out to the break. Tama also brought water and snacks. Tama was friendly and a watchful eye as I surfed for two separate sessions. Tama is also a surfer so he was knowledgeable about the break and provided good advice.
I would highly recommend Ha'apiti as a surf destination and Tama as a surf guide.
- 164kellenf (10/5): Best time in Tahiti - The bed and breakfast was a super great place to stay. Traveling away from Tahiti Nui to Moorea is a great was to be more relaxed. The back drop of the mountains behind that b and b is one of the most jaw dropping views in the world. The other travelers and myself even hiked a couple hours up the mountain, which was sweet hike. On the boat trip to Haapati surf break we saw whales and dolphins. The quality of water here is like no other spot on the planet. At the surf break you can just look strait down and see fish swimming in every which direction. The I think location of the lodge is remote so you might want a car to see the rest of this island. Tama and I did a circle in my car one day and got the best fish burger I have ever had. On the whole book this place and you will get a unique experience instead of some boring hotel.
