Guest Reviews
- rhyne (4/5): - Room was in a building different than described on Expedia. Loud road noise. No top sheet, just a dirty old comforter that smelled and may not have been washed. Owner wouldn’t allow the A/C to be turned on. Shower is between toilet and sink so bathroom is always slippery.
- Boris (6/5): - Inexpensive hotel close to Taj-Mahal is a plus. It is worn out, noisy, with limited amenities. Staff trying, but too few people speak decent English.
- Rodrigo (8/5): - I had a great stay at this hotel. The location is great, very close to the Taj Mahal. The room was comfortable and warm (had a portable heater). Wifi worked ok. Staff was very friendly.
- BR (6/5): - It's okay for a one night stay. Staff were ok, the only good thing about this hotel is its close to Taj Mahal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Near Taj Mahal. Busy neighbourhood. But quite quiet hotel. Close the windows, as monkeys will get in.
- Parveen (10/5): Brilliant - Brilliant location for the Taj Mahal and great price. Clean and comfortable night stay. Staff were friendly and happy to help accommodate any needs.
- leon (8/5): - At first arrival it is difficult to find. It is off the main road and no signs. However very quiet from the busy and noisy main road activity. Don’t expect daily cleaning of room (if you stay longer than one day). If cold, ask for a heater.
- Rumyana (8/5): - We spent two days at this hotel. Very clean and good service. It's a bit difficult to find, but they offer a free pick-up from the railway station, which is very good. It's near the Taj Mahal, but do not try to get on foot - dirt and chaos in the streets are amazing. Minuses for the hotel are the weak wi-fi, the television has only one program, the furniture in the bathroom are quite broken. However, the price / quality ratio is very good and I highly recommend this hotel.
- Hani (8/5): decent hotel near Taj Mahal - Positives:location of hotel is very near to the West Gate of Taj Mahal. guests have to walk along narrow lane to get to the hotel. room was clean. spacious bathroom but old shower fittings. there was a cafe not far from the hotel - Fauzi something - serves delicious Indian food at reasonable prices. try the chicken masala. excellent!
negatives: the hotel restaurant is located on the main street itself which is a few meters away from the actual hotel. it seems to be a designated lunch stop for tour groups from what we saw. hence the prices were rather steep. try eating a few meters down that road at a cafe called Fauzi something. cheaper and so much tastier
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent budget choice for a day or two in Agra - My two children (8 & 11) and I stayed here during a 24 hour visit to Agra. It is about 200 m from the west entrance to the Taj Mahal, allowing repeated visits with ease. It is also a very short auto rickshaw ride from Agra Fort {which we liked lots more than Delhi's Red Fort}.
It is a tiny hotel, attached operationally to the larger Maya Hotel. The arrival is a bit discouraging as you go down a very narrow dirt laneway. But the hotel itself was excellent. The desk staff were effective and nice and the helpers were pleasant. The first room we were shown wouldn't have worked for us as a threesome but the next (Room 2) was very nice and cheerful, well-appointed and with lots of space. It had a good queen bed and a nice window seat that worked well as a bed for my 8 year old. The bathroom was excellent tho' the shower was weak. The small fridge kept water very cold. You can have good, affordable meals in the restaurants of the Maya `hotel (100 m away, with two restaurants: AC & roof top too). And all this for only about Rs2200 for all three of us.
- patrick (8/5): Close to Taj Mahal and other historical sites. - It was good to have a room with a window, room was clean and had a fridge. The Wifi was a bit slow and cut off after 12 midnight. The restaurant was very good, just unfortunate it was so far away.
- Tji Jung (10/5): - Our experience at the hotel has been most satisfying, the hotel layout and rooms are open and well ventilated. Central location is handy for doing the sights, about 3 kms to city palace.
- Hemant (4/5): - it was a not so good stay as compared to the money they charge
- Katie (10/5): Perfect - budget friendly but comfortable! - This hotel was so affordable I was a little nervous about how the room would be but it was surprisingly nice! Everything was just what you needed, nothing too fancy but everything was just right. The hotel is a 10-15 minute easy walk to the Taj Mahal which is why I booked it and the breakfast at the restaurant was good and not too expensive. The staff was great and very welcoming. I would absolutely stay here again!
- michael (8/5): Convenience and Comfort near the Taj Mahal - Ray of Maya Hotel and Resorts was a clean, comfortable welcoming hotel in Agra, India. Excellent location convenient to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The room was pleasant, plenty of light, clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful
- Verified traveler (2/5): Crawling with bed bugs - We arrived after 12 hours of travel to find the beds in both of our rooms covered in bed bugs. Literally hundreds. They offered other rooms but clearly any place with that many bugs has them everywhere. We had to find another place to stay at midnight which was frustrating and challenging. Unless they do a fuuuuull fumigation I would never recommend this place. The rooms looked nice, as did the bathroom... But no.
- grato (6/5): - Great little hotel. Staff was helpful and friendly. The guy on the front desk is awesome. They were all courteous and helpful.
Rooms were quiet and wifi was superb. Thanks for your great hospitality
- ET (6/5): Inexpensive place - Nice enough place; cheap; pleasant staff; quieter location away from the street, but still in the middle of action; rooms are clean but basic; watch out for the monkeys
- Beth (6/5): Good rooms for the price - Impossible to find and impractical for anyone travelling by car, but otherwise a very nice place. Down an alley with no parking or even drop off spots. Staff were nice and room was very clean and decently comfortable. Easily walkable to the Taj.
- Burt (8/5): Easy walk to western gate of the Taj. - Good location, very friendly staff and a lot of money has been invested to make the bedroom we used look great. Down a short grubby alleyway ... but that's not their fault.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good hotel, clean and comfy. The staff is very kind.
- Taehwan (10/5): good place with amazing service - Amazing place. This place deserves more popularity.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hi, I am J P Shrivastava. A brief Stay at Ray of Maya Retreat and Resort. Staff was cooperative. However No lift facility for upper floors, found inconvenient to climb steps, particularly for elderly persons. Staircase needs to be covered with anti skid mats.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The tuk tuk driver recommended by the hotel staff was excellent! Gave us a really good day of sight seeing.
Room was a bit smaller than expected with the third bed being a hard mattress on the floor. Would reccomend groups of 3 booking a two bedroom one.
Staff were super attentive and always around to help
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic Indian hotel close to Taj Mahal - Westerners would consider this a no-frills hotel, but it's clean and well-managed. The wifi worked, and when the electricity cut out the backup generator kicked on. My only real complaint is that I didn't have hot water.
Other pluses: It's a 5-minute walk from the west gate of the Taj Mahal, and the Maya restaurant (across the street) is quite good, and offers outdoor patio dining.
You'll have trouble finding it the first time, keep the hotel phone number handy.
- laura (6/5): Good value near the Taj - Walking distance to Taj west gate. Very friendly helpful staff. Room was very clean and up to the hotels rated standard 2/3 star.
I would recommend!
- Baseline (6/5): Interesting place but good location to Taj - A nice hotel, with a simple approach to the hotel experience. The hotel itself is in a good location (being a 20 min walk to the Taj), though the entrance itself is off the beaten path a little, which could be a little confronting. The staff were very friendly and happy to assist with any queries, whilst the other locals (monkeys and squirrels) were quite entertaining to watch. The room is generously spaced, though the amenities scream more family than lavish. Food recommendation was disappointing, so I'd recommend finding your own place to eat, but otherwise a nice place to base yourself whilst you travel in Agra.
- Diane (2/5): Dump - This place was a dump we checked in and checked out within a half hour! This place was horrible, dirty, the extra bed was a window seat. Don't waste your time or money!!
- Mary (8/5): Good value and location - It was a good one night hotel. Close to the Taj and Agra Fort. Staff was helpful in getting us to the train station. Adjoining restaurant was good.
- Shri (10/5): True value for money. - It is an awesome pick for the price you pay. No restaurants, lifts, room service but it still makes you like the property. New rooms, crisp and clean linen, clean bathrooms, no stink. very courteous staff.
- Nirab (8/5): Comfortable Stay -- Close to Taj Mahal - I had a pleasant one night stay here. I arrived late at Agra Cantt station after my train from Jaipur was delayed. I'd notified the hotel at the time of booking that I'd be arriving late so it was not a problem. The hotel is priced very reasonably, which is good for a student! It's also quite close to the Taj Mahal so I was able to go there in the morning very early. I'm happy I stayed here and the room was very comfortable, clean, and the bathroom was nice too.
- Aref (2/5): do not stay here - found big lizard in the room. Shower water smelled like sewage. Neighbourhood awful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good stay but don't expect much - Hotel staff were friendly and food was good. Rooms in poor condition but that's to be expected.
- Sonia (10/5): Great value hotel - Really pleasant surprise for the price and location (15 minute walk to the Taj and perfect for a sunrise visit). Was set a little way off the main road along a short dirt path but this was enough to shield you from the traffic noise. Really nice comfortable bright room, good bathroom with hot water on demand and tea making facilities in the room. Wifi also worked really well. Really nice staff that were thankfully there to check us in at 4am. Excellent laundry service - best job we have had in our three months in India! Breakfast not available on site though but at there sister hotel across the road, although we went for other options to get a rooftop view of the Taj. Would definitely recommend.
- Amrit (6/5): Clean but has downsides - Close to Taj, clean room, cheap. Only downside is the dirt path you have to walk down to get to hotel and they serve no food. Better to stay in hotel in the Taj district itself where your hotel will have food and a rooftop bar or restaurant where you can see it.
- Ralf (10/5): Nice and clean hotel - Location is good. Not noizy. Breakest is not rich but good. Room is clean
- Fei (8/5): Excellent! - The room is great, clean and big considering the price. It's opposite to its brother hotel Maya, which is well known to the locals. Restaurant provides good ffood.
But don't book tours from the hotel, obviously overpriced..
- nicole (8/5): Hotel of good value but excellent staff - The hotel is good, clean, and centrally located. I only ate their Indian breakfast, but it was fantastic. Very well seasoned. What really made the hotel great was the staff. They had some laundry done in a rush and allowed us to stay past check out time at no charge.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Stay - Very clean room but had to climb two floors of stairs. No problems. Staff courteous. Quiet room. Restaurant is across the street but close. Breakfast not included. Good value for money. I will stay there again.
- Sajid (8/5): Value for money - Overall good. The restaurants nearby are very expensive.
- Leo (6/5): Great location! - Excellent location to walk to Taj Mahal!! The personnel was very kind with me.
Beds not so clean as one of them had some lint and the strainer of the shower area was not clean. The rest was ok. The hotel is near a construction and to get it you have to go through a little earth road. The hotel is much better above the standard of the rest of buildings of the town.
- Hiroko (6/5): Short stay in a nice room - Clean nice room with good location ,close to Taj Mahal. The restaurant is also good since they have many choice other than Indian cuisine for breakfast.
The entrance of the other building was difficult to find since we had to go through a small path which didn't look like a proper road..
- Mauricio (8/5): Close to Taj Mahal - We had a nice stay, staff was very friendly. Room was okay.
We liked the restaurant, good food. You can order non spice food if you like.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very clean and nice hotel - Very clean and new facilities. Best hotel I stayed at in India. I would highly recommend. The internet was not very good and is my one suggestion for the hotel to fix to ensure guest a great stay.
- JOGADOZO (6/5): Clean but weird entrance - Internet not good - This hotels is located a walking distance to the Taj Mahal. The neighborhood is not the best. Its biggest problem is the unwelcoming entrance. We had to walk from the street to the main entrance of the hotel on a unpaved isle, not too pleasant. We had to carry our luggage from the car to the lobby. The Lobby looks like everything but a lobby, not a good ambiance. The staff does its best with what they are given. Breakfast is not included which is fine, but we had to go to another sister hotel that has a restaurant. It is like a block away but crossing a road where you have to pray for your life :)) it is not easy to deal with. Something very important is the cleanliness of the property, my wife and I were very please with it. The biggest disappointing is the internet. It did not work during the two days that I stayed in there, not even in the lobby. We were told that the routed was reset twice and basically nothing else could be done. We were offer to go to the lobby to have a better connection, but not even there. Very upsetting. We heard other guest complaining about the same thing.
- Barbara (8/5): Good hotel nice and quiet - For a one night stay it fine. Don't be put off by the outside once you get to your room it's good. Nice and quiet away from all the noise of Agra. 5 min walk to gates of Taj Mahal.
- Eddie (10/5): American Couple - I know I rated this very high, but it is deserving. The room was great/comfortable (most importantly quite!) and the staff was very friendly and accommodating (thanks guys!). The only reason I could imagine anyone has issue with this hotel is because they haven't been to the rest of India (if you have, then you would know this place is great for the price). The only major drawback this hotel has is the way in which you have to get there. It is down a shady dirt path, that once again, if you are not used to India, may concern you about walking down (especially at night). Really though, nothing to worry about and the fact that it is a few buildings off of the main road gives you some much deserved/needed silence (relative of course). The old maya across the street has decent food and good coffee. **Finally, I would highly recommend AK travel agency which is just a few doors down from the hotel. Fun owner that is down to hang out and best price I could find for hiring a car to Delhi airport.**
- Verified traveler (6/5): convenient for Taj Mahal - location very close to west gate of Taj Mahal, however it is on the side of very noisy street and the side lane getting to front of the hotel is unpaved and uneven. due to its occasionally black out, we had to carry a headlamp in order to get to the sister restaurant on the other side of the street. for a short stay like ours, it served the purpose and the money is of good value!
- Emily (6/5): Good value and location! - Stayed two nights in Agra to see Taj and Red Fort. Near by the busy main street but the hotel is tucked away from the front street so we did not hear the honkings. A heater was provided which is needed in December. The hot water was not working very well the first night but the staff fixed it quickly after we mentioned to them. We ate at their main hotel restaurant across the street where has good breakfast. The front desk staff was very helpful on giving us the train information. Good value and location. Walking distance to Taj is a plus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel close to the Taj - Very trendy and clean hotel. The manager was exceptionally helpful!
- gregory (10/5): Too short a stay - It was the last night of a 2-week journey across India. And it was probably the best hotel we stayed in for the whole trip. The bed was certainly the most comfortable, the marble (everywhere) was beautiful, and the room felt modern, clean and very comfortable. It really did feel like we were at a retreat/resort... even if only for one night. It was not straightforward to find... their entry walkway was under construction in between two half-built building... but once you get inside, it is a great spot.
- Manisha (8/5): Great little hotel! - It is a pretty little hotel with few rooms. The rooms are big & clean, staff very attentive. The drawbacks are no restaurant on premises( although the restaurant at sister hotel maya across the street is extremely good - specially if you go to the rooftop) and the access to ray of maya is not good. Manager told us that they were in process of building the path, but for now, it is a dirt passage.
- Lauren (8/5): Good hotel and well priced - This hotel is opposite the Maya Hotel and down a side alley. Quiet as it is back off the main street, and we felt secure. The room is reasonably clean and you can eat at the Maya across the road, the food was great there. Water available from staff for 25 rupees, and they were also helpful with local tourist advice. I would stay again if back in Agra.
- Faye J (8/5): Our one night stay in Agra - I think we stayed in an overflow hotel. The room was very nice except we had one king size instead of two singles. The entrance, down the side, in the dark, on an unpaved, narrow, rocky path was horrible. I could see no excuse for such a precarious entrance. We had to eat across the street and paid for the breakfast which I thought was included. The shower was complicated, almost needed an engineeer to figure it out, but nice, hot water and an an enclosure.
- Sonnaboy (8/5): Perfect location at Ray of Maya - We stayed at the Ray of Maya Hotel in October 2014. The hotel is off the main road and in a narrow unsealed and very rough lane opposite the Maya Hotel, which is owned by the same management. The hotel is very new and very well appointed for a 2.5/3.0 star establishment. Check-in was quick and efficient. The "Taj View" room we paid extra for was non-existent as a building now stands between the Taj and the hotel - no refund was given . The west gate of the Taj Mahal is 10 minutes walk away. Good restaurants are within 10 mins walk or 3 mins auto ride. Avoid being ripped off at the Pinch of Spice restaurant down the road - 30% to 35% tax+service charges added on to the advertised menu prices.
- Mrinal (6/5): Nice Budget Hotel - During Diwali 2014, we had a trip to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. All hotels were booked thru hotels.com. This property we choose as it was within budget and good review. Hotel located very near to Taj itself. It's a new hotel, management was welcoming, rooms were neat and clean and toilets are built in mind for foreign tourists and thus ok though toilet equipment are not well maintained say the shower unit. Hotel is located in a narrow lane and your car need to leave at main road and you need to carry your luggage inside and the road is damaged due to some construction while we visited , this was the only discomfort. Over all a nice place to chill your bones after a long trip at the Taj.
- Rosemary (8/5): Convenient for Taj Mahal but beware of extras. - The hotel is set back from the road down a small alley which is quite difficult to negotiate in the dark. However the room was very pleasant and comfortable. The shower cubicle in the bathroom needed updating. Meals served in the sister hotel across the road but found the food somewhat bland.
Several services offered, including transport for sightseeing either by tuktuk or a car for longer journeys. We found that both of these were convenient but more expensive than other outlets. Certainly the cost of the taxi should have provided a better quality, more modern car and we did not like being taken to retail outlets of their choice in order to bump up the profit.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good budget hotel - Overall everything was ok, the rooms where clean, staff helpful. The only disconcerting part was your first approach to the hotel, as it is a mud walkway, over a pile of building gravel. I guess until the building works up from the hotel is done, this can seem daunting.
- Helen (8/5): Clean and quiet - We really enjoyed this place. It's down a short dirt alleyway but once inside its clean, new and quiet. We had two rooms - family of 5 - and it was spacious.
- Ritesh (10/5): Home away from home - Nice stay, nice arrangements, would love to come again and stay here...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay but the taj view overcharge not worth it - Nice stay at this hotel very close to the Taj Mahal. The room was clean though a little small. I paid extra for the taj view but you can only see it from far and it is hidden by the building in construction in front of it... not worth the extra money for the view
- I, Cajal (10/5): Excellent. Quiet and clean - We were in Agra to see the Taj, fort and Fatephur Sikri (standard), so booked in for 2 nights here. It's run by the same people as the Maya Hotel, and most taxi drivers know that one rather than this one, but the Ray of Maya is just over the road and down a little alleyway so I'd just say Maya Hotel and get the staff there to direct you to the Ray. I don't know what the rooms in the Maya Hotel are like, but given that it's on the main road itself I would hazard a guess that they'll be noisier than the Ray of Maya. We couldn't hear any traffic in the Ray of Maya, had no nasty fumes, and the room was spotless. It felt like a proper haven. The staff were extremely helpful - directing us to various interesting places. (Of course) they suggested that we eat in their restaurant (at the Maya), which was ok; the food was hot and seemed fresh, but a little bland. Probably touristified given that there are so many of us in this area! Anyway, I didn't hold it against them - it was helpful to have a restaurant so near; we arrived late so couldn't be bothered to explore for a different place. Overall, I would definitely stay at the Ray of Maya again if I came back to Agra.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Hotel close to Taj-mahal - It was a nice exprience for me, after a late checkin in midnight the hotel staff was very co-oprative and they arrange food for us.
- Juana (6/5): Close to Taj Mahal - Hotel staff nice. Close to Taj Mahal. Hotel kept clean. We requested hotel pickup and no one showed up. We took a taxi and hotel paid for it.
- Elliot (10/5): 15 minute walk to the Taj - Once inside the building... very nice and very air-conditioned. There are views of the Taj from the balconies along with monkeys (keep your doors bolted). There are not a lot of services in this part of town. The hotel owns a restaurant that has good food, but accross the street. There is a beer and wine shop about a Km from the hotel (take a 1$ Tuk Tuk for return).
- Gag123 (4/5): Expected to be overwhelmed, but overall average - I visited this Hotel going by reviews. They have two hotels(one across the road)....... Pros - Calm & quite place, rooms are clean & staff is courteous.........Cons - The one where i stayed they don't serve anything in room (except tea), need to visit other hotel for food & drinks. Food is not upto mark & expensive.........Overall experience was average.
- Skeeter (8/5): Nice - would stay again
- James (10/5): Great renovation - In walking distance to Taj Mahal. lovely lovely clean and tidy hotel with friendly and helpful staff as well as an excellent restaurant across the road with even more friendly staff . Only drawback is the unsaved side walk to the hotel entrance.
- nicholette (10/5): - excellent hotel, within walking distance of the Taj. owner is very pleasant and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I would recomend this hotel, expecially for the value, its a great choice.
- M Mallahan (10/5): Great Location and fantastic Service - The staff was very accommodating and friendly, it was very clean and the service was outstanding. The restaurant was in another building , but was "the spot" for dining around the Taj Mahal! The best place for Filter coffee or should I say the only place for filter coffee!!!!!Had a great stay and will recommend it to others.
- Pradeep (8/5): Comfy room - Very comfortable.Restaurant was however away and was costly Access was unpleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and New - staff could have been more helpful, wifi not working in the room they didn't bother to fix it. They show the rocket science of how to open a tap and switch TV on and become greedy for tips.
- Jerry D (8/5): Near west gate of Taj Mahal - fantastic staff. Plenty hot water. Mattress and pillows proudly proclaimed as high quality foam rubber but very uncomfortable to sleep on. Major dislike was unpaved walk of 100 ft from curbside to hotel steps that was poorly lit at night. Needed a flashlight to avoid dog waste.
- Chris (10/5): great hotel and restaurant - My partner and I stayed two nights, we found the staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel was in a good location near the Taj and red fort. The hotels restaurant has great food. The rooms are very nice and comfortable and a great place to relax after being on the streets all day.
- Sanjay (10/5): Excellent - Stay was excellent in hotel. Room was neat and clean and provided amenities as well. Staff were supporting and very co-operative. Hotel location is very good which is very close to Taj and Agra Fort.
