- Elaine (10/5): A lovely, clean and cosy place to stay. - Very clean and spacious rooms with a lovely hot shower and comfy bed. Our room was in a separate building from the pub but very quiet and so comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and I was grateful to see I could get a vegetarian full English which was huge and delicious! Very centrally located for exploring Barnard Castle or further afield. Staff were very welcoming, helpful and efficient. Nothing .. all good.

The room was fine for what we needed, clean and all provided for.
All was quiet in the room unlike other stays we have had elsewhere, no traffic or pedestrian noise. we could have done to stay longer .

- mary (9/5): Good location in Center of the town. - Great location ideal for visiting the town. Good choice in restaurant for evening meal and breakfast. I have a bad back and the bed was very hard. Room was clean and a good size. You had to step over the bath tub to access the shower which was challenging for me but very comfortable room.

- Gill (6/5): Avoid rooms above the music if staying Sat . Or unless you are socialising till late . - Location , breakfast We were in room 3 Sat night
Needed an early relaxing night but very loud music upto 10. Turned down the music from 10-11 but the room floor and bed vibrated from the amps .
- Mark (9/5): Would definitely stay again as overall it was satisfactory for a short stay. - Hotel was excellent, clean modern, well maintained. Good food. Room was modern. The room was located across the road, room ok but a little small. No private parking only the roadside so not always a space. Quite a steep staircase with a case and knee issues. Should have requested a ground floor room. Room needs freshening up a little, a little wear and tear in some areas.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, especially breakfast. You can see how much effort goes in. A little bit noisy from the people outside the pub at times but nothing unmanageable.

- Rupert (9/5): -
- lucy (8/5): - The shower is fantastic, very clean room, central location A bit noisy, tv only had a few channels
- Lynne (9/5): Excellent stay. Would recommend. - Breakfast was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly. Parking was easy. Very clean. Would recommend. We were in room 9. It's a small thing but the table was located where there was no light so makeup and hair bit difficult. It's a minor point.
- Anthony (9/5): Great location, lovely accommodation, friendly staff. No complaints. - Clean, comfortable and well maintained. The hotel bar/restaurant serves excellent food as well. There was an issue with the shower not draining properly. We reported this to the receptionist who confirmed it would be sorted out.
- David (8/5): Really nice boutique hotel in a typical northern market town. - Obviously recently refurbished which gave a really nice contemporary feel. Staff were outstanding and worked really hard to make you feel welcomed. Location is great. Not really a massive criticism but a little noisy at night for rooms which overlook the rear outdoor area.
- Morag (10/5): - Staff were great. Very clean & warm.
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Steven (1/5): Avoid staying here staff believe they have the right to treat and speak to you how they feel and complaining made me fee - The evening meal we plan w booked was beautiful! Where do I start with this one, we drove down from alwick castle and banborough as family me my wife and my parents (it was my dad’s 81st birthday) had a wonderful time and wonderful stay, we thought the hospitality might have continued through our journey, first arrival I was greeted by Natasha who was wonderful, she took the time to show us our off site accommodation and was really helpful and polite, however this is where it ceased, the evening meal was delicious, however the staff were n that evening shift were mannerless, rude and made us feel like we were putting them out every time you needed to grab their attention, I then took the opportunity to see if it was just us, unfortunately this wasn’t the case as the manners from the other guests at the tables was immaculate, but not a manner on show from the staff who where moody and unresponsive at times, they were also rude to a young couple sitting opposite. EMBARRASSING! I thank the staff (reluctantly) and asked them to pass the my compliments to the chef for a wonderful meal. We retuned to our off site accommodation which was clean and tidy, however it has a pull out bed so the room enables four to sleep, slight logistics problem with the bathroom , you had to go into the other bedroom to use the bathroom
With hindsight the toilet should have placed in the void between the two rooms) we retired and hoped it would be better in the morning! This did not come to fruition as the morning staff again had no manners were rude on arrival (not just to us) them banging cutlery and plates all over the restaurant this type of behaviour is just unacceptable when we are spending our hard earned money to enjoy time away on my dads 81st birthday, just unacceptable for the hospitality sector, in addition the standard of breakfast was poor. At the end of our stay we made our issues known to the manger( this was the lady who also served us in the evening and breakfast WOW!
- jenny (9/5): great location in a lovely town, and a very well run and welcoming hotel - Breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent. The details were all covered eg scrambled and poached eggs both properly cooked and coffee was hot ; simple things but very few hotels manage to do them well Unauthorised access to the separate building where the rooms were at the back could be more secure; swipe card or something for the pedestrian gate perhaps ?
- Lord William (9/5): -
- Maxwell (8/5): Enjoyable. - The Breakfast and Gluten free options for the Evening meal. The restaurant food was very good and the atmosphere was nice in the bar area. The bedroom was also clean and comfortable, together with a nice shower in the bathroom.
- Morton (10/5): Quality hotel with friendly staff - Very nice modern room with large comfortable bed. Food in hotel was really good and high quality. Highlight was the friendly efficient staff who could not do enough for you. Had no issues at all.
- Eileen (10/5): Wonderful place, will definitely be going back - Everything, value for the cost Nothing
- David (10/5): - Great location and excellent friendly staff. The food is also excellent.
- Gilsk (8/5): An excellent welcome, a comfortable room and very good food. -
- PAUL (10/5): Excellent room, comfortable sleep. Great breakfast 😋 - Excellent room, comfortable sleep. Great breakfast 😋
- Craig (8/5): Pleasant and would stay again. - Good location. Staff were very pleasant. It is clearly popular with both locals and people visiting. The hotel and bar were very busy on both nights of our stay. It was a comfortable pub with rooms. Clean and well run. Felt a bit Dunelm throughout. So not the best. Also we were in room 10 in a separate building across a courtyard. Something I don’t really like.
- Kathryn (9/5): Lovely hotel, friendly staff, busy bar and restaurant and lovely breakfast. - We stayed in the stables, which was very clean, lovely for an overnight visit. The pull down bed isn’t ideal for adults as has a very thin mattress. The room was quite a walk from the main hotel, it was quiet but be prepared to walk as we had parked in the hotel car park.
- Glenn (10/5): -
- Hugh (8/5): -
- Keith (10/5): Lovely stay with great owners and marvellous food - Very clean Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Well located good quality accommodation - Clean, comfortable accommodation with everything we needed. Good breakfast and evening meal.
- Alan (9/5): - Cleanliness, staff, food Pillows were too firm/hard - suppose we should have asked for softer.
- Jane (9/5): Excellent place to stay - Bedroom was spacious, comfortable beds. Food was really tasty and the staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. Chairs and tables being put outside at 7.45am on a Saturday morning - it woke us up!
