• Jannine (9/5): I hope to come back. - Wonderful stay. Great and helpful staff, quickly responding to any requests. Delicious breakfast buffet, eggs to order. Great views from the room of Ho Tay. Generous size room. Windows open. Great sunset views. Location great - many vegan restaurants nearby, walking around the lake lovely, easy taxi distance to old quarter. Windows in room didn’t close properly so street noise was higher. Room floors were not cleaned daily. A bedside lamp next to each bed would be really helpful.
• Jannine (10/5): Delightful in Every way. - Excellent staff, very friendly and responsive to requests. Excellent room, spacious, clean, beautiful lake views, cleaned and replenished daily. Great location on Tay Ho with long term staff who clearly loved their jobs and the hotel. Delicious buffet breakfast we didn’t know we were going to receive when we made the booking. Our initial room on the fifth floor had an unpleasant odour, we were moved rooms when we asked, to a higher floor. The TV was very intermittent in reception.
• Jannine (10/5): A generous warm and treasured experience. - Our stay was so lovely. We were given a room on a high floor after the first night so we could see Tay Ho lake. Our room was spacious with two beds, cleaned and restocked daily. Breakfast was on the 11th floor with exquisite outdoor seats and views. Options were varied with pho, fruit, eggs, salads, meats, rice, juices, tea and coffee. The staff were very responsive and dealt with any requests quickly. Staff gave us constant care and attention and seemed to enjoy their jobs and the hotel they were part of. It is not always the case to see this. We would return any opportunity.

• 168789 (10/5): Best hotel in Hanoi - We stayed 3days in this hotel the room which we were in with the window lake view. The staffs were very helpful and good friendly. Breakfast was ok. I recommend this hotel when you visit Hanoi Vietnam.

We had cocktails and the food was lovely. All the staff are very friendly. View is over Westlake and it is aptly named because you can indeed see the sun sit from here.

They wanted to put me in a motel near by, not even a hotel, motel with cheaper price. I said no and showed them my receipt that I had paid for the room. Lucky I was with some locals and they helped me out by talking to the receptionists. After some back and fort exchanges, the hotel decided to refund my moneys but at first they did not want to give me back my moneys, saying they have room at another place. Bad services and shady hotel. Would not come back again.

• Adzie71 (6/5): Hanoi Stopover - We were due to stay in another hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi. Alas on the night we flew out from NZ the hotel cancelled our booking! Being close to NYE the choices available were very limited. However we managed to get this place for three nights. The hotel itself is pretty tired and the rooms at the time of year we were there were cold. But the heat pump in each room (we had adjoining rooms) worked OK. The downside was the lack of hot water in the shower, which only allowed one and half people to shower...as there were 4 of us we had to alternate with two showering in the morning and two in the evening. Being a good 15 - 20 min away from the Old Quarter made taxi rides in and out a little inconvenient for us, but the location over looking the lake would be nice on a clear day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts on offer were average but we ate anyway. Overall the weather probably tainted our view, and was possibly clouded by our disappointment of not having our original hotel choice. OK but needs a jolly good room revamp and make over.

• Sagitaur (6/5): You get what you pay for - I had an 8am departure on the Saturday, so needed to get to Ha Noi the night before. I booked at the Sunset Westlake because if was close to where I wanted to be, 20 minutes from the Airport, and it was pretty cheap at $40 for the night. I checked in around 2pm, and was greeted by very friendly and efficient staff. To my surprise, and without asking, I also received an upgrade to the room. For an 8 year-old hotel it was pretty untidy, and not terribly well maintained. Some of the common areas were actually dirty and cluttered. However, the room was of a good size, and it did have great views over Westlake. Bathroom had a bathtub and a shower hose, and a few other fiddly bits; you could not use the shower standing up. TV reception quality was not very good, but the A/C was OK (just as well because it had been 38oC outside). I did not get to have breakfast, as I had a 5.30 start. When I got out of the lift at the lobby I needed to walk over a couple of sleeping staff members. When they woke up they were friendly too, and called a taxi to Noi Bai. If not for the location and staff I would find it hard to stay there again. But then, you get what you pay for!

But I could find only 5!!!, I booked a room in advance In this hotel looking at the view of the lake from the balcony of the hotel. i definitely knew there's something special in this hotel. It was sunny day when I landed on this great place and It was a sunny welcome for me when I walked into this hotel on 1st May 18. I felt at home when I stepped In. I came to Hanoi purely on a business trip. It was more of work for me..almost 20 hours a day.. But still the hotel staff never made me feel the pressure of my work load. Entire staff are so well behaved, soft spoken and so kind to me. I had very good relationship starting from a house keeping staff to the sales manager. All of them have made my each day so wonderful..I'm grateful to them and I owe lot of respect to each one of them. My day In the hotel used to start from seeing a beautiful sunrise through the balcony of the hotel and a warm good morning at the reception with a broad smile. Trust me, my entire days were so beautiful and successful!. This was possible because of the wonderful hotel staff. I do not know a single word In vietnamese language. But this was never a barrier to me at all. I must say about the food..I enjoyed the food here. It's not spicy like India..there were varieties, I have tasted and enjoyed each of them.I realized that its because the food is served here with lot of love and great care..I could recall few names of the the hotel staff..and I used to call them by name "Thao" my great friend and "Giang" my little sister. I have learnt lot from them.. They were so dedicated and they treat each customer like a king or god! It is not only Thao or Giang.. The entire staff are like that! Then I must mention about the staff at the reception.. Sunny! the name says all. Always with smile on her face as bright and beautiful as the sun!.. Then Chuong, my dude..best friend I made in vietnam..great person.. liked the way he treat the customer with a little touch of comedy!. Thanks dude! Then comes Lee... But I added "Bruce" before her name... I call her Bruce Lee:)) ..She's a lovely person with broad smile on her face always..really miss you Bruce Lee:(( And there is another person .. A lovely lady,,as lovely as Lee. But I'm sorry I don't remember her name. Missing you too sis :(( I must tell you about this great place...I stayed here for 2 weeks..everyone in this place are soft spoken, well behaved, I have not seen a single person getting angry or raising their voice! Most Importantly, all are slim and fit! How is this possible??? I have learnt the reason behind this. But I wont tell you this. You come to Vietnam, Stay in the Sunset Westlake hotel in Hanoi, then you will realize the reason behind this automatically! I have a learnt a lot from people of this great country.. How to be happy in life, how to stay calm,, how to smile..most importantly to believe in "GoD" I meant "GO and Dedicate!!. I was very sad to leave this great place, great people..But I had to come back..I came back to India with loads of sweet memories, loads of love given by the great people and loads of secret lessons I learnt from these people without my knowledge! I owe lot of respect and love for each one. A great country..And wonderful people. I will surely come back..Definitely to Hanoi! And when I think of my stay...Well I cannot think of anything apart from the "SUNSET WESTLAKE HANOI HOTEL" Have A Great Day! Keep smiling always! We had a bad experienced on the 1st day because of a rude taxi driver but they help us report it & they also help us booked for transport so that we will never experienced it again. They also help us in booking our city tour even that it was a last minute decision

• Marci (8/5): Hotel on busy street - While in your room all you hear in horns honking.The hotel is on a very busy street so it's noisy. Hotel staff were very nice. I got hurt the first day in front of hotel and had to have a wheelchair so they would unlock the back entrance to let us come and go from there. The pictures are the view from the room. Internet sucked..
• Verified traveler (6/5): Nice staff, great view - We had troubles getting to Cat Ba Island because of our flight time we missed the last ferry to the island that day. But the hotel understood our concern and then upgraded our room at no cost for our trouble. Even though they had nothing to do with our travel arrangements to the island. Upon arrival we met the manager who upgraded us and he was just as kind as his email. The room had instant hot water which was nice and free breakfast was good. They were doing some construction on our hotel and the hotel next door so the noise was not ideal. But it was nothing ear plugs could not fix. It was very nice to have a view of the water from our balcony.
• dag2546 (8/5): Decent budget hotel with accomodating staff - I was meant to stay only one night but because of illness ended up staying 3 nights. The staff and manager could not have been more helpful or nicer. The rooms are all that you need and clean. There is plenty of local food, coffee shops, supermarket and it across the road from the lake. I did not have a lake view room but l did peak at one of the rooms and it was an amazing view. The front desk manager speaks reasonably good english.

• ZacharyMarret (2/5): Awful experience - I would give this hotel zero stars if I could. The room I had was mediocre at best. One big problem I had was that there was a large column right in the middle of the room, awkwardly positioned just past the foot of one of the beds. It was very annoying to have to maneuver around the large column every time I wanted to go from the bed to the rest of the room, especially at night when it was harder to see (I almost banged into it a few times), and it made the room feel cramped even though it was of a decent size. Other issues with the room: there was a very hard 'spine' in the middle of the larger bed in the room which made it uncomfortable to sleep in. The knob to turn the deadbolt lock on my room door was extremely stiff and hard to turn. The wifi kept dropping out. The water pressure in the shower was uneven and the hot water ran out after just a few minutes. The food was also bad. I ordered dinner at the hotel restaurant my first night in the hotel and was disappointed; the spring rolls I got were greasy and tasteless, the noodles in my beef noodles dish looked and tasted like they came from a packet of dried ramen, and the seafood pizza I got to replace the noodles was also bland. I gave the dinner service one more shot on night 3, ordering a multi-course set price meal, and was again unhappy; the crab soup was almost completely tasteless, the Thai seafood salad was alright but not good, the French fries were lukewarm and limp, and the beef in my main course was extremely tough, to the point where it was difficult to cut with the knife. The breakfast buffets were similarly unappetizing. I did not enjoy any of my meals here. But the absolute nadir came when I asked the front desk to see if they could find a car and driver for me so that I could explore some sites south of town (specifically the Trang An grotto and the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty). The front desk clerks assured me they could do it. However, when I followed up with them the next day, they told me that their driver was actually not available and so they would instead book me on a group tour to see just the Trang An grotto. (I would not have found this out in time had I not sought out and specifically asked the clerks if they'd booked the driver yet.) When I pointed out that, if I was on a group tour which did not include the Ho Citadel, I would not be able to see the citadel itself (one of the main reasons I came to Vietnam), they promised they would find me a different private driver to take me to both sites... but the second driver the hotel found for me was the worst I've ever had. He stopped multiple times to go to the bathroom on the side of the road, he didn't know where the Ho Citadel was (so either the hotel didn't tell him where I wanted him to take me or they picked him even though he didn't pay attention to what they told him), and when we finally got there, he told me he was hungry and would be leaving for a while to get food. He insisted that he had to go and said he would be back in 20 minutes; he was gone for over an hour and I was left sitting by the entrance with nothing to do but wait for him to come back. And when the driver finally showed up he was not even apologetic; similarly, even though the hotel knew about my issues (I called them to try to find the driver when he was late getting back from dinner), they didn't apologize either. I've hired drivers through hotels all over Southeast Asia, and the one this hotel found for me is easily the worst driver I've ever had. And the kicker is that, when I went to check out, not only did the hotel clerks not apologize, but they tried to bill me a second time for the driver even though I had already paid him when I finally got back to Hanoi! If I hadn't examined the room charges in detail I wouldn't have noticed and would have wound up paying twice for the trip. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are other hotels with a good view of Ho Tay Lake that don't have all the problems this one does.
• ruthlO9929FF (10/5): What a nice stay - Stay here for 4 night and definitely come back. The hotel is in a perfect location that only takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Old Quarter. Right opposite to the West Lake with wonderful view from the window. Room is spacious and well decorated with modern facilities. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

The breakfast - western: toast, croissant, butter and eggs... as well as asian, fried noodels (tasteless) and rice,...The view over the lake from 11th floor reataurant: very nice... but did not keep me there for another nite...
• pavdwi (6/5): Good view - I stayed in Sunset Westlake Hanoi Hotel for 6 nights for my working trip to Hanoi Vietnam. The Staffs were very helpful and friendly. The Westlake view was amazing even thought the hotel is old and you could hear the noice from outside, I think they do need to put some renovations into the hotel and this would become one of the best and convenience places to stay around Lạc Long Quan street. Staffs were very caring and honest and I do like the fact that they really take care of the clients. I would recommend this place with the Westlake view and I hope the management will look into renovating this hotel soon.

Even though not in a tourist area taxis are cheap to go anywhere.I loved the views from rooms facing the lake and also from the 11th floor restaurant. I was happy to be upgraded to a lake view room after we experienced air conditioning problems in our first room. I was impressed by the friendly, courteous staff.

• DutyFreeFC (10/5): Awesome place to stay in Ha Noi - We stayed here at two different occasions during our visit. Both were wonderful experiences. All members of staff were great; They were always friendly, accommodating, and ready to help you with anything. Staff at the lobby would always offer to help carry your things or call a taxi for you. We were also able to exchange US dollars to Vietnam dong at a very good rate. The restaurant was also great. The food was cooked well and the staff were always cordial and helpful. Breakfast also takes place here and the food is delightful. The restaurant also has balcony seating and you can catch a great view of West Lake (Hồ Tây). We had immaculate, bright, and spacious rooms. The beds were comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were clean and modern. One of the rooms where we stayed had an issue where the hot water in the shower started running out after about 20 minutes of use. The other room did not have this problem, but the window would not close completely. Other than those, no complaints. The hotel is in a great location; you can just walk out and get everything you need and walk back. It feels safe. We arrived on International Women's Day, so the three ladies in our party received bouquets of flowers delivered to our rooms. It was truly a charming surprise for us. Service was really excellent. Bottom line: I'd stay here again. It's a great place.

The staff was extremely helpful and always had a smile on their faces! The breakfast was delicious! We stayed there for over a week and didn't have a single problem! I will not stay anywhere else in Hanoi! Sunset Westlake is the place to stay!
• AjmSydney (6/5): Airport transit hotel - We used this as an overnight transit hotel when passing through Hanoi. It is 20 minutes from the airport and the hotel charges US$18 for a private pickup. The hotel is not great. The build quality is low, meaning it's noisy and doors don't quite shut, tiles out of alignment, thin windows etc. even on the 8th floor, the traffic noise was disturbing until midnight. Breakfast on level 11 caters to Asian tastes. The room doubles as a karaoke bar at night. It is more convenient than staying in the city if you are in transit, but I'd search for other alternatives. The view is very good. Tips - ask for a room on the upper floors to avoid noise. Don't expect to eat nearby as there is not much of use surrounding the hotel.

• christinesY9440DV (10/5): Wonderful Staff! Beautiful View! - We stayed here for a few days at the end of November/beginning of December 2016. Everything about this hotel was wonderful! The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The food was delicious and abundant, with a wide variety of food items. The rooms were large and clean with beautiful views of the lake. There could be a bit more TLC with general maintenance, but it's minor stuff. I would stay here again and I highly recommend it to others for a safe, pleasant stay.

Washrooms are large and well maintained Value for money Cons The major downside for me as a tourist was that the location was far from old quarter and most of the tourist attractions, and there weren't many places to shop or restaurants nearby Apart from the rooms and the restaurant on the top floor, it doesn't have a look or feel of a proper hotel with non-existent common areas. Everything seems to be compressed in a short space.
• William (6/5): Viewing the lake, comfortable, nice staff. - The room is tidy and clean,should be ok. In the process of check-in, I was comforted by the staff who was so helpful and friendly. As requested, she told me the good restaurants nearby the hotel and local transportation arrangement detailly and politely. Besides, I am lucky to be upgraded to a room with good view to the lake.
• Myrat (4/5): bad hotel... - Probably one of the worst stay in my life. My stay in this hotel was bad experience. Most rude and impolite staff that i ever seen, not common for Vietnam at all. At the check in we receive room and after we enter room it was shock to see, very dirty room with hole in the bed sheet. after we requested to have another room which was better but still bathtub was leaking and not clean room. Another sad moment is the staff, they been always rude and wherever we ask for something answer was you can do yourself. At the end very disappointing stay and not recommend at all.

• Craig (6/5): Off the tourist track but well worth it - A one night stay before flying out to Cambodia, so I chose a hotel with uncomplicated access to the new airport motorway. Very friendly welcome, basic but comfortable double room (complimentary upgrade on arrival was great), minimal traffic noise. Pleasantly surprised by breakfast buffet. The view overlooking Westlake was impressive; I would like to see it at night. General neighbourhood dominated by Westlake, so very good for easy local walking. Many restaurants and cafes in area. Shopping options limited compared to other areas. Overall, a very good, friendly place to stay, away from the main tourist areas, that lets you see a different part of Ha Noi.

• Anthony (8/5): Nice Budget hotel with Full Lake View - Stayed in hotel Suite on Level 9, the highest floor for room stay if I am not wrong. Perfect view of the West lake. Had breakfast everyday and not much variety on the food. But the view is excellent. Afterall, most of the time I only stay in hotel at night. Security is good for this hotel. It is not as grand as other big hotels, but it is enough for a short stay. Overall Experience is good. I will stay again when I visit Hanoi again.

• Janaki (4/5): Street Noise - Our room with a view was unfortunately next to the main road and at an intersection and we had a sleepless night with traffic noise.
• Joseph (10/5): fantastic hotel in a perfect location near lake - We enjoyed every minute of it, the staff was so helpful in organizing tours and any other need such as helping with flight issues eg, the reception personnel especially Thuy rang for me and spoke in my behalf in Vietnamese to resolve problems with flight delays and allowed us to stay in our room instead of going way too early and wait at the airport. Also just to give another example we had an accident spilling red wine on the bed we were embarrassed of course but they quickly reassured us and changed all the linen in a flash. Ho we cannot forget the massage and beauty clinic we give them 5 stars for their professionalism and friendliness, and their price is so reasonable for hotel prices, in fact I think it's cheaper than down the street! Of course we have stayed at more prestigious hotels, but I would say the hospitality is somewhat more artificial, whereas at Sunset West lake there is a personal family atmosphere that anyone travelling in a foreign country that speaks a different language to our own would certainly welcome. Ps. They gave us tips on culture and how much taxi rides and other things should cost us. And I give full points for their restaurant too. Well we certainly loved it and we surly recommend it to anyone that wants a good holiday in Hanoi. Enjoy, from Joe and Rosie

A little far from the busy shopping areas, needed a taxi to get there (not a problem though because taxis are so cheap) Staff were very helpful and friendly and happy to accomodate my family and I. We were a little disappointed as the gym and facilities floor was closed due to renovations. Hotel could use a makeover and definately needs a pool to relax by after a busy day. Dont book this hotel if you are a light sleeper as the honking of horns will drive you mad. All in all great value for money, cant complain too much at $40 per night
• SandraB (6/5): Adequate short term stay - Bit disappointing - after almost 24 hours in transit, upon arrival as arranged airport pick up did not arrive - thank goodness for the assistance of a tour desk at the airport to call the hotel on our behalf. Room was quite modern..with a good view of West Lake and a great bathtub. However, there were no towels in the room and it took some time to get them delivered to the room. Breakfast was simple but adequate. Only stayed one night so not sure about the rest of the hotel services
