Guest Reviews
- Ruth (8/5): - This was our anniversary trip, 1st time experiencing a hotel in Okap. Entrance to Mont Joli is very welcoming and beautiful. Staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful as much as possible. We would have gave 5 stars unfortunately we had some issues. Issues were resolved in a timely matter. We would like to still see this hotel standing strong in this country. Not allowing the problem of the country to be an excuse to why things are the way they are. Your Guests decide to come stay at your location so please make sure all Managers, that each room is up to date with no issues. Anything that is damage needs to be replace immediately, anything clogged or leaking that will take time to replace shut off that room. Don't wait for a Guest to find the issue for you to turn around to resolved while they are present. We came for a vacation away from wherever we came from. We don't expect to have an issues when we push out our money for a fantastic stay. Please check food and drinks expiration date, temperature and preparation. I became ill but we had enough complaints, didn't want to bother the kitchen. Not saying they won't resolved that issue. We are in 20s decades where technology is the thing to use. Please get your systems working. Everything should be computerized not paper. I go to the bar order some drinks or food. They should be able to pull up my room with a card on file and charge it. Paper is away with. Also when you know your pool is down for reconstruction at the time.
- Evens (10/5): - It's a nice hotel, I had a nice stay.
- Jean Andre Paul (10/5): - Mont joli hotel one of my favorite hotel ❤️
- Salim (10/5): - Charming hotel with a close and magnificent overview of the bay
- Tawana (10/5): - Very good
- Salim (8/5): - Great hotel overall
- Clifford (10/5): - Awesome
- Edouin (8/5): - I like everything
- Nicolson (8/5): - The doors were just painted so, I couldn’t see my room number.Otherwise, everything was okay.
- Christianie Pierre (2/5): - I put $200.00 US cash in my drawer, went out for the day; put the DND sign on. Someone still entered my room and stole the money. The houseman knocked on my door every second to borrow the tv remote and iron for other rooms he said as they had limited ones. One day i was put almost the entire morning and even found the houseman phone being charge in the bathroom, my child found it. As a woman who travelled with a child i felt very unsafe, couldn’t wait to check out. When i requested to speak with the manager regarding the missing cash, i was told that an investigation would be done, but never got a definite answer. I had to check out on the same day i just left; did not want to be a victim.
- Jay (10/5): - Great experience! The place was clean and the staff was good. The internet works very well there.. food and drinks are a bit pricey but everything else was great
- frances Joselma (6/5): - Average
- Luberte (4/5): - My fiancé and I checked in on July 20,2024 and room 47 the A/C didn’t work and the housekeeper leave only (1) Towel for three people I call the front office and ask to send more towels for us and they never brought them, and the sheets and the bed fell like plastic so I would not go back to Mon Jolie hotel anymore for the we paid they need to be doing better. I would not recommend them to anyone else.
- Jn Francky (10/5): - Everything
- katie (10/5): - Very clear 👌
- Corrine (2/5): - I could not come because of airport shutdown in CapHaitian and Fort Lauderdale.i lost over 400 dollars Extremely disappointing
- Corrine (2/5): - Unfortunately The dates were wrong and I was unable to get a refund for either night I did however book again when I was in the country and I had to cancel bc of the ongoing civil unrest that CLOSED access to Haiti because of airport closing down making access to the hotel impossible . Once again no refund So make sure you do not book with any room that is non refundable That said it’s an historic and elegant Hotel with a view of the water. I would probable come back sometime in the future even though I lost over 400
- Michemane (10/5): - Amazing!
- Niykha (6/5): - The main issue there for me is the AC. It’s turned off every 4 to 6 pm. And i think it would have been best to make the customers aware of that prior to booking. Besides that, everyone was helpful, knowledgeable and they made you feel like HOME. I would totally go back and recommend it to others.
- Gerde (4/5): - So quiet and so clean but missing hot water and internet connection and WI FI.
- Amos (6/5): - I don't like the sailing its old
- ELoIllinois (8/5): A nice little hotel with friendly staff - I stayed here twice between June 2022 and July 2023 for about 6 nights total. The rooms are clean and simple, with decently reliable electricity from about 6pm to 7am. With the fuel crisis over the past year, it's understandable that the generator is not run all day. You just have to embrace it. I really like the bar area and restaurant, both of which have nice views overlooking the water. I would definitely stay here again.
- Natacha (10/5): - Good
- SORINA (4/5): - The staff were pretty good on service but the property itself is a big no. Very old. No WiFi for over a day, power was in and off. Pool was dirty and 12ft deep mostly so you couldn’t even enjoy the pool. Anyone can get in the hotel so that was a safety concern for me.
- John (10/5): - Great customer service
- Fallson (10/5): - Great Hotel
- Michael (4/5): - This place so bad
- Vovener De Verlands (8/5): - Good service ! Pool was not clean
- Jean (10/5): - I loved the staff
- Golda (2/5): - No electricity, no wifi, no hot water. It took the general manager over 24 hours to give us a wifi code that gave out every 5 minutes and basically didn’t work. When we tried to speak to her about leaving and tell her about our issues, she basically disappeared. We asked for her all day and they kept saying she’s coming. Eventually we left and nothing was resolved.
- Loveboy (2/5): - Nothing at all
Too old
Staff not friendly &
- Dortilien (8/5): - It’s old but the service is good , but no electricity 24/24, it’s clean , the food and drinks are good !
- Lionel (10/5): - Nous n'avons pas mis de Colgate pour moi dans la salle de bain , c'est le seul problème que j'ai eu avec vous les gars.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Peaceful - Great view. Very peaceful. The restaurant on the property has delicious food. The only problem was the television didn’t work. I asked someone to fix it but nobody ever seemed like they understood. WiFi was excellent and made up for.
- Rachel (8/5): - The pool was without water though the food and cleanliness was perfect.Staff is nice.
- shedly (2/5): - I didn't like anything , they give me a room i didn't like but after complain they changed it and i didn't have prob with. But it was my first and my last too. No swimming pool, no hot water in the bathroom, no conditionner air . Bad trip for me
- Marie J. (10/5): - Excellent
- Verified traveler (2/5): - after check out, I went to do some errands and when I returned and open my room I found another client in my room. and when I went to the reception they claimed that since I did not left any luggage they switch my room to another client. but me having my room's key, they did that...
My original room was ocean view and now I left with no ocean's view room.
- Ward54 (8/5): Going to Cap Haitien? - I want to let all Cap Haitien travelers know that Mont Joli is doing great! Just last weekend I stayed there for two nights. The food was great, room comfortable, hot water, internet and cable worked fine! The new management is in-tune with offering excellent customer service. To those that have stayed at the Mont Joli in the last decade and not given it a good review, I challenge you to try it again. I feel you will be pleasantly surprised.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My stay was wonderful, I was surprised by the comfort all together, the view to the ocean, the architecture, and the proximity to town was what I wished for. I would book again.
- June (2/5): - Almost everything ,ac not working good and plus 2 days no ac, no WiFi for 3 days
- lpctours (10/5): Great Place to stay - Im spending two nights in this nice hotel in Cap Haitien and i cant say nothing but good things abou it.
Hotel is clean, staff very kind and attentive, good servive, my room is huge with 2 king size beds just for me... and food is great.. if you are a bit challenging try the pasta for breakfast :) locals love it!
- KirkK634 (8/5): Unexpected Mountain Top Treasure - I visited the restaurant at Mt Jolie for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the elegant pool side cafe with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The service was excellent, the food was good with a fun variety from bruschetta to goat. Fresh salads & warm rolls came with our meals. The journey to Mt Jolie was long, steep and winding through many impoverished streets, but well worth the trip. A rare opportunity to see another side of Haiti and its gracious people.
- raoulstravels (8/5): Relaxing - I stayed at this hotel during my first trip to Cap-Haitien and I was really happy with it. The room was spacious, the view amazing! The breakfast was really good. The service was impeccable. I will definitely be back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We have stayed at the Mont Joli many times and always enjoy our stay. Our only concern is that the road at the bottom of the hill seems to deteriorate more each time we come to stay. This time our taxi was unable to make it up the hill and we had to walk to the top with all our luggage. I know this is not the case with all vehicles that climb that hill because the taxi that picked us up and took us to the airport was able to make it without any issues. I don't know what if anything that can be done about the road.
- Ward54 (10/5): Great management group - I have stayed at the Mont Joli over 20 times. Prior ownership and management had let the hotel slip. This group is bringing it back to greatness. Staff is attentive, hotel environment is good, and the food is excellent.
- Krmcg51 (8/5): Outstanding hotel during the recent riots - We had stayed a week with a medical mission team, and had left to go to the airport on Saturday of the riots that rocked Haiti. We had to return to the hotel to await for flights to resume on Monday. The hotel owner and staff were outstanding in their treatment of our group. Due to the circumstance, they provide discount room rates and included meals to our entire team They kept up with the airport and let us know about resumption of service. The hotel is clean, food was great and service exceptional. My only advice would be that the hotel sits way up a steep hill, so be prepared to pay for taxi service to even go downtown. Although there isn't much down town in Cap Hatiens, but service to the area attractions are readily available.
- RonandJeanneB (10/5): A classic (and great) tropical hotel experience - On a hill overlooking the ocean and the city, this hotel encapsulates my image of a classic, older-style, Caribbean hotel. Its an oasis from the the rather chaotic city below, with open air lobby, lounges, bar and restaurant, clustered around the swimming pool. Clearly, its an older building but with well maintained public areas. Our room, although clean and very large with excellent ocean views, would benefit from a little more maintenance. We had a health issue while staying here and the management and staff were EXTREMELY helpful. Its a very short walk (admittedly up-hill) from the terminus for the long-distance bus from Santiago in the Dominican Republic, which proved an excellent way of getting here. Highly recommend this place.
- DavidGHaigh (8/5): beautiful, quaint and friendly - The drive up the hill to this hotel is very steep!
The Hotel Mont Joli is beautiful, quaint and friendly. It has a nice open-air reception and restaurant that overlooks Cap. The staff are courteous. The food is well prepared., the pool is cloudy and could do with someone casting a net over it but it was nice. The staff were pleasant but 2 drinks orders and they were out of change so quite slow as some poor girl had to run down the steep hill into town.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nothing like in the pictures, needs better upkeep, needed people at the front desk to speak English, not only French guess comes to the hotel.
- 871saschac (10/5): Calm and serene hotel in the center of Cap Haitien - I stayed in a large room towards the back of the hotel with beautiful ocean views. The food at the hotel is great. The staff is super friendly and very helpful with anything you need. They even helped me get a landing authorization for my husbands plane when all the offices were closed. They go above and beyond in customer service.
The hotel is walking distance to all the restaurants and bars on the main strip. I loved staying here and will be back.
Thank you!
- Ira (8/5): Missionary Work Labadee Village & Fort-Bourgeious - General manager and staff were very friendly. Food was delicious and appropriately priced. It has a beautiful view with nice swimming pool. 24 hour security is provided.
- tracyp263 (10/5): A wonderful and restful spot in Cap Haitian. - I recommend this quaint and friendly hotel. It has a nice open air lobby and restaurant that over looks the bay. The staff are courteous and the rooms are clean. The food is well prepared. The view of the sunrise out your window is beautiful.
- tljlawkwb (4/5): Great restaurant staff and food. But the room.... - The restaurant was the best part of my stay food and staff was wonderful. My room a/c never got cool enough to cool the warm room. No, water pressure in showers and I had to take a cold shower all 3 days. Pool was not clean. The grounds of the hotel are well kept and beautiful.
- joshuakj (10/5): Beautiful vista! - The hill up to this hotel is impressively steep! We were relocated from our original booking at the Christophe, a very popular destination in town. Unfortunately, they lost our reservation and cancelled it on us without us receiving proper notification. They offered no remorse or apology and simply said it was an accident. They did offer to find a room at the Mont Joli for us. They provided free transportation to the hotel and the same price I paid. Gracious, we checked into our room at the Mont Joli. (I did find out that I only saved about $3.)
The property of the Mont Joli is beautiful, the restaurant is good, the pool is refreshing and the room was nice. Everything was just slightly more than the standard for a Caribbean hotel, which was nice. We would stay here again if we had to!
- Rachel (4/5): - Pros: Nice spacious room, friendly staff, clean property, nice breakfast, beautiful cozy little hotel.
Cons: Renovations needed in courtyard, roof, gutters, and eave. Pool was a bit green. Plumbing was recently upgraded, but shower head needs to be replaced (room 42). Expensive a la carte menu for food and alcohol.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had an awesome time in Cap Haitian. The Mont Joli is a refuge in a busy city. Lovely view, great staff, clean rooms and best of all the refreshing pool. They have improved on their restaurant menu offering more authentic Haitian dishes.
- Ward54 (10/5): The Mont Joli Has "Cleaned Up Its Act" - I regularly lead mission groups to Cap Haitien, Haiti. After a stay in 2015, I left the Mont Joli furious with quality of the stay, customer service was non-existent. I vowed to never stay there again with a group. In 2016 a new owner and management group took over the hotel. The new management group asked us to give them a try, so we decided to give them a try with our latest trip. Well, the new management has won me over as a fan. They have cleaned up the hotel. Customer service is good, food is good, pool is clean and the price is fair! In short, I give the hotel a big THUMBS UP!
- lucsonjf (10/5): I will stay there again - We had a wonderful time in Cap Haitian and Mont Joli was part of this beautiful Journey.
A little pricey but overall everything else was on point. the room was spacious, breakfast was delicious and our room overlooking the bay was a sight to see every at dawn.
- 652roses (8/5): Flight cancelled - American Airlines flight cancelled yesterday, called several hotels however most were full. Mont Joli's owner gave us a special rate and provided us with a beautiful experience. The rooms are spacious and the food is great. Thank you to all the hotel staff especially the owner for providing us a place to stay and turning an awful experience into a great time in Haiti. They also helped us arrange transportation to Labadee. We had a nice swim and had grilled lobsters.
- Libra2345 (2/5): Au secours! - The setting of this hotel is superb. However, the notions of service and basic necessities are sorely lacking in this hotel. A shower that works with hot water (not smelling of petrol or coming out in drops) is a must. We had 2 power outages during our 2 day stay. Food that is fresh and tasty would be nice, especially when you are not walking distance to any restaurants and safe transportation is not easily accessible. More hangers in the closet, hair dryers and more towels would help to make guests more comfortable. Drinks and food come on two separate checks and you have to keep reminding those who serve of what you want. Waiters do not cover for each other. I asked for ketchup with my fries at the beginning of the meal and received it at the end of my meal. Do not count on using the hotel wifi, it does not work most of the time. With all the problems we had and paying over $120 USD, they would not give a a discount. I will not be staying here on my next visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): My 6th visit and looking forward to the next! - Entire staff was excellent. Supurb hill top ocean view. Beautiful local art throughout the common areas. Good value.
- ancilr (8/5): View of the bay! - We ate lunch at the restaurant by the pool overlooking the bay. It was a very nice setting and the food was good. In addition there was free wireless internet, a definite plus for an international traveler.
- swainton (4/5): Rooms are terrible - You can only use the excuse "you're in Haiti" before it just doesn't apply anymore. I'm super down to make some concessions but this place at $150 wasn't even close to worth it. Rooms were terrible. Old and patched together by packing tape literally. The towels are the same ones from the Papa Doc era. Gross bathrooms with no charm and the knob hanging off their fixtures.
Staff at the hotel and restaurant both were absolutely amazing and the only thing that saved this place. They were super on it at every turn and very helpful.
Food at the restaurant was average at best.
If you are gonna spend $150 I don't really feel like you can do any worse. Just pick another spot at random and go there.
- bobbymoore13 (8/5): Price is a little high, but the view and food are great... - The rooms are a little nicer if you ask to stay in the newer part (to the left as you are looking to the ocean) it is rarely full and this is my 3rd time to stay here in a year. The pool is really nice. The Hamburgers are amazing. You get a nice breakfast with it too. Under the old owner you used to get your dinner included, but not the case anymore. Their menu is disappointing as you are on an island but there aren't many good fish/shrimp options. The lemon butter shrimp is good but just wished there were some other options such as fried shrimp and then a couple of different fish options. Julian is there at breakfast and dinner and he is great. Oh and the rolls are some of the best in the world.
- Christi (8/5): Mont Joli has a beautiful view of Cap Haitien - There is rolling electricity so you have to get used to that but it's overall clean and beautiful! The staff is very accommodating. There are no elevators and the rooms are spread out so you have to be willing to walk a bit or if handicapped get a room near ground level.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth the money. - 1st I wanted to change my reservation because of the election problems going in Haiti, they refused to grant me the change and had me pay an extra day just to change my reservation. Once I arrived, they didn't welcome us with complimentary drinks ( like stated online) - that's was a turn off to me as it is false advertisement.
2nd the first room they had us, the AC wasn't working so they put us in a different room.
3rd one of the bed from the new room had holes.
4th the pool was dirty and was not working. Huge disappointment.
5th for being the most expensive hotel in Haut Cap Haitien, they could have done better with updating the rooms, the bathroom and facility. And have a working swimming pool.
6th the employees were very friendly.
7th I think should get a refund.
- Flo (6/5): Consumer service - I was at the hotel from July 22 to 26, 2016. The hotel is well located. I had a good time!
- Michael (6/5): Good option in Cap-Haitien - Overall Mont Joli was a good place to stay. The hotel is in a relatively quiet and safe location. There was no wifi in my room, but I was at the far end of the hotel. I felt the The dinners were a little pricey for the quality. For dinner I recommend heading to one of the restaurants down by the water. Breakfast was standard fruit, eggs, french toast, and pasta. The AC worked great, and there was hot water for showers. WIFI, hot water, and air conditioning are my top three criteria for any hotel in the Caribbean.
One small annoyance was the bed size. The bed frame was too small for the mattress size. This resulted in me hitting the ground every time I tried to sit at the foot of the bed.
The view from my room was amazing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Leonade mi amor - Amazing bar, fantastic food. Great views of the city. Great bar/restaurant service. Very nice decor in the lobby and dining areas, nice pool/ lounge area. Unfriendly front desk/bell boy service. The view from the restaurant took my attention, Leonade took my heart. Her service and smile were captivating. I won't forget her.
- NY first timer (6/5): Monte joli - Hotel is located to downtown.and is probably considered nice compared to other hotels in area. Ammenites were ok, rooms could have been cleaner, bathrooms need to be renovated but we're acceptable for area.experienced power outages several times but this was quickly resolved each time. No water once also one morning. Staff was nice and friendly.
- Tim (4/5): Not worth the cost - The reception staff were not very friendly or help, Everything was run down. I think it was a nice hotel at some point in the past. I only got 1 soap and small 1/2 bottleof shampoo for two days, no phone in the room to even call the desk for assistance, my TV remote never worked even after I took it down for new batteries. The electricity went off a few times so there was no lights in the room. The room only had one light a table lamp that didn't have a switch.
The breakfast was good and quick but the diner menu was vary limited. Overall the hotel was not worth anywhere near the price I paid.
