- Rosalind (9/5): - Lovely building with character in the room we had
Pub underneath was great
Location is superb
Staff were friendly and helpful
Bathroom was beautiful and clean
Rooms were an excellent size Rooms were cold at night, no heating
Matresses were old and springy

- Peter (9/5): Nice, comfortable old pub close to city. - Characterful building convenient for town, and close to the Custard Factory. Nothing - it was great, although a reading lamp in room 1 would be nice.

- Natalie (10/5): - Olly was amazing and so friendly and the room exceeded expectations. Large quirky bedroom with beams and fireplace. The bed was so comfortable! Beautiful large, modern bathroom. Just stunning and very cheap, was so impressed with it here and right in the heart of Digbeth. Just brilliant!
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): - Great room, with a private bathroom, good facilities, good location, will definitely book again next time I am in Brum. Friendly welcome and a nice pub downstairs. Fantastic price. Only thing that could have made it better would have been breakfast but I knew this wasn't included so all good.
- Ramalingam (5/5): Cheap and affordable rooms, therefore somewhat okay - Nice, cozy pub. Room was clean and the shared bathroom spaces were clean as well. Comfortable bed. Despite some negatives - was ultimately cheap and affordable Hot water did not work for me in the morning at 8am (it was working however at other times) and ended up having to take a cold shower as I was rushing for a work event.
It is advertised saying ironing facilities are available. I was given only an iron when asked without a board. My room didn't have a desk (except for the bedside table - which is too small) - was pointless getting the iron on the end.
Unable to turn off the radiator in my room that was on full blast despite turning the dial to zero completely. Would've been great for winter - not so great in May.
The walls separating adjacent rooms were paper thin.
- Daniel Thomas (7/5): - Great location The knob on the radiator was broken, so I couldn't turn it off.
Far too warm, especially during this heatwave.
- John (7/5): Perfect place for those who enjoy drinking until 11:30 pm. - Staying in a piece of history The loud music until 11:30 pm each day (midweek)

- Kate (9/5): Lovely lively pub to stay at. Clean and great location. - Great location. Clean and tidy. Very comfortable bed. The stairs are very steep to get upstairs.
- Kate (9/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): - Excellent value for money Bit noisy due to nightclub across road but fab facilities and location thoroughly enjoyed our stay
- bridie (10/5): I can't say anything bad about this place, full of character with a warm welcome! - I couldn't like this place more, not only is it beautiful, its cosy, comfortable, clean and very friendly. Traditional english pub with great food down stairs. Just a small walk into the centre and close to all public transport For me there was nothing bad but i guess if you're a sensitive sleeper a room towards the back would suit you better
- Sami Petrie (8/5): Lovely pub. - We loved the feel of the building and the staff were all very nice and friendly. The location is great with a 10 minute walk to the bullring. We visited Birmingham for the weekend as we were attending a concert at the arena, the night life sounded amazing! It's such a shame my daughter is a few months from 18 because we would have crashed the party when we got back in the evening.
Codes were simple and easy to use on the doors
The stairs leading up one side, were very narrow and spiraled so this could be difficult for someone. The door to our room was hit and miss. The lock was difficult to use, I didn't read the facilities properly to it being a shared bathroom and not private. It wasnt an issue, just something I would prefer not to use.
The nightlife went on until half 2 in the morning our room was above the garden so was a bit noisy.
But no other complaints!
- Mark (8/5): - Great Location, Clean and good value
- Adrian (5/5): - Room is not clean. Bathroom is shared, dirty. Is a good place for concert lovers, party or hungover etc, low budget student vibe that needs a low budget bed to sleep over.
- Liza (10/5): -
- Elaine (8/5): Pleasant stay in a great building - Check in was friendly and great tour of the lovely building. Think mattress in room 7 on the double bed could do with being replaced or a topper adding.
- Michal (8/5): Friendly staff, great location, good value, but not for everyone - Check-in was very friendly (plus a kind cleaning lady even helped me find my way out in the morning). The location is very good Not really a complaint: music continued until 1 a.m., which I had expected. Instead of sleeping I went to the beer garden to listen to the band playing - this is the solution
- Alessandro (9/5): Soggiorno autentico inglese - Edificio antico e ben tenuto, atmosfera da pub autentico, staff gentile e pronto, buona posizione vicino al centro In se’ nulla, tutto bene. La zona è un po’ trascurata
- Abigail (10/5): -
- Rob (10/5): Perfect location and great value for money - Great location and price. Clean with friendly staff and 24/7 access to come and go. Perfect N/a
- ian (8/5): - Wonderful old building Room was extremely noisy
- Clare (10/5): -
- Sarah (7/5): - Great location, room was very comfortable and the shared bathroom not a problem at all. Very good value Rather noisy
- Veronica (3/5): Avoid if you have expectations of sleep - Beautiful historic building If you don't need to sleep at all, this place is fine. Very late music from outdoor bar and the night club next door. Worse than that though was the noise from the industrial sized washing machine in the staff room next door. This started at 6am this morning.
No side lights, room not serviced, tea bags not replenished, late entry door very difficult to open.
- Veronica (3/5): Sleepless in Birmingham - The historic building Not possible to sleep due to noise from:
1. the outside bar,
2. the night club next door and
3. a very loud industrial washing machine being swiched on in the room next door early each morning of our stay (6.00 am on the last morning). We were in room 5 and the washing machine is on the adjacent wall of the laundry room next door.
Room not serviced during the 3 night stay. Teabags not replenished. No side lights so not possible to read. Late night entrace difficult to open, causing even more stress. NEVER AGAIN!
- Ruth (6/5): - Convenient location for a gig we were going to, and for the up and coming area of Digbeth. Very noisy until 1am. We knew we were booking a room above a pub but expected music to finish at a reasonable time.
- Peyton (8/5): Great place and location, would recommend - Staff were really lovely and helpful, rooms were well kept and beds super comfy. Had a great overall atmosphere No hot water either morning we were there - apparently the boiler kept getting turned off at night
- suzy owen (8/5): -
- Sadie (9/5): - Really clean, great location, staff were really helpful. Amazing value for money. Yes it's noisy - it's above a pub in a lively part of town, so it goes without saying that, particularly on a weekend, there will be noise. I don't know why someone who takes issue with that would even book just to complain.
- Thierry (7/5): Character, history, comfort. Very noisy at the weekend. - Great location. Perfect to watch football at St Andrews. Staff was very friendly. Check in was very good. Employee made me feel valued as a customer giving me of information. I loved the history and character of the place. Room was spacious and comfy. Shared bathrooms were fine. Large TV and WIFI worked fine. The noise was bad until well past midnight then very quiet. I am fortunate that loud music outside does not stop me from sleeping. It'd be a nuisance for most people.
- Arthur (10/5): Loved it and happy to revisit - Great location, easy walk back into Birmingham and when I wanted buses to the NEC and Coventry the stops were just yards from the pub - such a stylish place to stay. Stairs to rooms quite narrow and awkward for hauling suitcases up and down
- John (8/5): Very pleasant - Amazing old looking very big inside and out the back Old looking kept up with
- caitlin (10/5): perfect location, great value! - Stayed here a couple of times for the night after a concert and every time we have a great time, comfortable room, great value and the location is great! The staff were lovely and helpful
- Danny (7/5): -
- Gareth (10/5): - Friendly staff and good value for money, I’d stay again.
- Morrissey (10/5): -
- Keith (8/5): - Great location, room good, bed was comfortable and shower was wicked Could hear train & traffic outside
- dangelo (3/5): -
- Jon14611 (3/5): A very poor night's sleep with no security - The location is very good for the O2 Academy. The shower was great. The bed was very comfortable. The lock on my door didn't work. Very loud music went on outside my window until 00.30 on the night the clocks went forward so effectively 01.30. I've barely slept. After the music stopped beer barrels (I assume) were crashing around downstairs. Cleaning started early (I assume) because more crashing around woke me.
- Katherine (10/5): -
- Kaie (5/5): Great accommodation - shame about the niggles (and the very noisy event!) - The size of the accommodation was great, three bedrooms, a little kitchenette and a bathroom. The bed was comfy and the heating worked. There was car parking nearby that only cost £6.50 for 24 hours. It was walking distance to the city centre which was great. There was an event on and the noise was too much. There was a constant noise coming from the pub toilets below the accommodation, hand driers, conversations, people toileting - it was very stressful and unpleasant. I think this was exacerbated by the sheer numbers of people in the pub due to the event that was being hosted. The insane music towards the end of the event at 1.30am was the icing on the cake, along with the noise of the staff loading barrels, clearing up etc. Added to all of this, there was a very noisy (broken?) manhole cover right outside of the room on the road, cars and trucks going over that woke me up every time. There were TV's in all the rooms, but were unusable as they had not been set up for guests to use. We were also not given any wifi details (in the listing wifi was included), this was disappointing as we could have connected to the TV's if we had been able to access the same wifi network that they were on. The TV's would not work on the public wifi. If the pub can sort out the TV issue and the Wifi details for residents, then this would represent great value for money. I wish we had been notified that there was an event on as I may have looked elsewhere for accommodation.
- Conor (10/5): Perfect - The staff were exceptional throughout my stay, they really made the experience amazing and consistently offered help if I had any questions. I would highly recommend this place.
- Rebekah (10/5): -
- Callum (10/5): -
- Bob (7/5): Good value and location, lovely old pub / hotel. - Huge room with Ensuite, very comfortable bed. good location for city. Very noisy on Saturday night as directly above busy pub and nightclub opposite open to early hours. Breakfast would be a welcome option.
- Helen (8/5): great - lovely big room , very friendly staff , nice atmosphere in the pub a bit noisy on a friday night
- Olivia (5/5): Not great, not terrible - Really good location for the event I was going to, the staff were lovely and gave us a tour. Had a kettle as well as tea and coffee in the room which was nice. Old building, steep, short stairs with a flimsy rail in a dark hallway which is not good if you have a lot of luggage like I did. Bed was really uncomfortable, I heard and felt the springs bounce every time I sat up. The walls and windows are so thin, There were bands playing outside the bar until 1AM which closing the window did basically nothing to mute. The staff did warn us about this, but only on the day we arrived, so I wasn't really prepared for it. The lock on the door is quite bad, and we had to push the key underneath it to a staff member to get us out on the day of leaving. Overall, my friend said we got what I paid for, but I definitely wouldn't go again.
- Michelle (10/5): Fantastic find - Amazing old hotel. Apparently it's haunted which im not surprised about as its tge oldest pub in birmingham. They had st patrick day event on which was a great added extra we didnt have to leave . Stair are very steep so be aware if struggle but other than that . We will return . Only issue we struggled to find 24 hour parking near by Building work in front so a bit noisy but hotel can't help that. It's just one of those things
- Zarah (10/5): - Service was perfect
- Richard (7/5): Ok stay in charming old pub, albeit a very noisy first night. - Old world charm pub, good price. Very noisy first night. Sounded like a party was going on in one of the other bedrooms.
- nicholas (9/5): -
- Nathan (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): FABULOUS 👌 - Lovely oldy worldly rooms . Clean & comfortable. Great pub too do a mean roast on Sunday . Great vibe outside at back in winter covered with heaters & summer open air , good music .
Just nip for breakfast a couple doors down on left or The Bake House couple doors right turn right serving the best coffee ever ! cakes & pastries . A wonderful place to stay, ace staff , in the heart of Digbeth for great nights out .
Sarah & friends repeat guests. 10 a.m check out sorry thought it was 11 a.m ! 😅 thanks for being patient. Could do with that extra hour after our night out ! Xx
- Tiina (9/5): - Sijainti erinomainen.
- Leigh (9/5): - Great location, especially for those travelling to Birmingham by coach as its a five minute walk from the station. Staff are really nice, huge pub with a great layout. Room was cosy and everything worked fine. Highly recommended Nothing to note, stairs might be a bit steep and narrow for some, though this was not a problem for me personally
- Sandra (10/5): - The bed was one of the most comfortable ones I have ever slept on. Beautiful historic setting, lovely large room and bathroom, great location, friendly staff
- Akos (10/5): -
- Warren (6/5): Ok for a short stay - Its clean and comfy Shared showers
- Mustafa (2/5): - Location Too loud and the lights are dim. The place is so noisy and the walls are thin.
- Gennaro (7/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Great location for a visit to St Andrews. I chose the budget room without en suite. Next time I’ll go for the en suite o - Great location, nice pub,and interesting old building. Nothing

But to be expected.

- Jazz (10/5): -
- Michael (6/5): -
- Tim (8/5): Spacious room full of character and great value for money. - Great pub. Character and comfort. Given the age and the think walls/windows, inevitably it was noisy but once the pub shut it was fine.
- Jazz (10/5): -
- Amy (9/5): Perfect for the solo traveller - Convenient location Quintessential England vibe
- Emma (7/5): Lovely pub but ….. - The pub was amazing, lovely place and the beer garden is a great area. The hotel rooms (apartment) were very nice, clean and had everything we needed but…. We had zero sleep, the beds were so uncomfortable could feel every spring. There is a club 20ft away that was soooo loud till 4am, then at 8am there was a band going into the church also facing, shouting, banging instruments about from a van and then the again very loud band music :(
Such a shame because the pub was lovely and staff also very nice x
- Warren (6/5): Good for a short stay , or for the bars - Location Shared bathroom , stairs and noise from outside bar
- david (1/5): -
- Gemma (10/5): Exactly what we needed, would definitely stay again - What a great find A bit noisy but wasn’t an issue for us
- Gavin (7/5): Fantastic pub with great staff - Unique lodging - Great pub and you are staying in a place that feels historic Bed wasn't the most comfortable (room 2)
- Yvette (8/5): Lovely old building - Everything was great my only complaint was hearing set for certain times so in the morning in a large drafty old room it was very cold , morning heating on would have made it more comfortable, every thing else was lovely thanks :) No warmth on a chilly morning
- phil (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Mcclatchie (10/5): - Always a lovely stay It's a shame they don't do breakfast as this would be good when you have to book out for 10am
- Nafsika (3/5): - Location was great Too much noise
- Joe (8/5): -
- Rose (10/5): - Biggest room I have ever stayed in. Cool timber frames. Really friendly and helpful staff.
- Andy (9/5): A good place to stay - Good location to O2 institute. Quirky Pub to stay and comfortable. Would stay again unfortunate one of the meals out of 4 was dismal, a bowl of 5 ravioli as a main, ....questioned.... that's what you it is.
- Joel (8/5): Dated, but clean and comfortable - Good price with en suite Bit dated
