Guest Reviews
- theresa (4/5): - Check in was something ive never experienced before with no reception and having to find the room by phoning Martin; i assume to be the manager, for direction and have him text the door codes to me.
He was very helful; I cant fault his support.
The room was very basic, with rough dated decore and furniture.
The door to the room was thin with an unusable bolt, anyone using nearbye rooms could easily be heard, thankfully they were well behaved.
The curtains were so thin and let day light in and the nets were torn.
The grounds and entrance were very unkempt, including a dirty stack of chairs and an overflowing bucket of water and cigarette butts, near the main entrance.
The bed mattress was uncomfortable with springs easily felt.
However, the bedding and towels were nice and clean and the room was gloriously warm.
I wont stay again.
- Paul (6/5): - No shops nearby
- Noriko (4/5): - Key less accommodation- this was convenient. I have not seen any stuffs but I found very messy hospitality toray which looked like someone ransacked. Clean but rather shabby accommodation
- David (6/5): - A perfectly adequate hotel for a stop-over for a weekend appointment.
I arrived late evening on the Friday, my arrival having been delayed by traffic. The pin code procedures for unlocking front door and room worked well but there was no illumination in the porch so gaining entry after dark was an event. One of the disadvantages of having a "no staff after hours". Once in, the facilities were clean and adequate and I would be quite happy to use it again but it is not some where that I would use normally. The room was well fitted out and had 'fridge, cooker, and all normal/necessary fittings; however, although I was aware that at the weekends there were no staff, I understood that some basic facilities for breakfast would be left in the room. Tea, coffee and two biscuits is about as basic as one can get! My room was clean and thankfully my bed was very comfortable but I saw no staff through-out my stay although information before hand suggested there would be someone on duty over night.
An interesting stay that, surprisingly, I would be prepared to repeat but next time I would be better prepared. Any recommendation to friends would be heavily caveated!
- Robert (6/5): - N/A
- keith (8/5): - Beautiful house in classy, clean Cheltenham.Just a small problem checking in as I couldn't pick up email on day of arrival -would text give wider coverage?Glad I came.
- David (10/5): - Quiet location ease of getting, felt secure with key code to room
- Simon (10/5): - A budget option but great for a low cost stay while working in the area. Everything was superb and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Thank you!
- Christopher (10/5): - The room was ideal for a solo traveller, like myself, in a peaceful area of Cheltenham. It was clean and tidy, with a nice view from the front of the building.
- JAMES (8/5): - Don't expect a traditional hotel with reception or plush rooms and you'll do fine here. Cheap and cheerful, self-admission to property, with any problems quickly resolved by the provided contact. I stayed in a hot spell and although there was no fan available, the room didn't overheat. Ten minute walk into centre of town and bus stop nearby for buses to Winchcombe for a bit of walking.
- Neil (8/5): - Functional and great for our needs, very convenient for the Football ground.
- Colin (10/5): - Just a standard visit to family ideal located.
- andrew (10/5): - very hot and couldnt open window.
- Brian (10/5): Helpful and Spacious - Self check so do check your emails. Luckily as I was attempting to park (4 hours during the day or you can request a permit), a very helpful man named Martin allowed me to park and then showed me my room (as email was in junk).
Lovely big twin room with comfy bed. Great staff!
- Martin (8/5): - Clean, comfortable and great value for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Dated but clean - Room was very dated, but clean. No hot water so had cold shower. Bed was comfortable and room had everything you need. Not enough onsite parking.
- Franck (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - Very cheap and it was perfect for me as I was looking for a bed for the night. I have no need to look for a place for dinner or breakfast. unfortunately on morning there was no hot water in the shower so it was a very, very quick wake up.
- allan (6/5): - Great location and easy access and reasonable price for what you get, however this is the second time I have stayed here in the garden room where you have to be very very patient waiting for the hot water to arrive at the shower and sink in the morning. Could do with thicker blackout curtains unless you like getting up with the sunrise. That said I will be booking again in the near future.
- Titilola (10/5): - Amazing place, close to amenities, clean and comfortable.
- Marianne (10/5): - I just want to say that there was everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t want. I was grateful there was a bath; all was pleasing, comfortable and tasteful. I could park overnight in a nearby side-street.
- Andrew (8/5): - Strange to stay in a hotel and not see any staff, but everything was exactly as described and the room was well cleaned and restocked.
- Ceri (10/5): - Great - fits the bill with comfy bed and nice range of bits provided for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - When i booked I did not realise there was no receptionist.
- Robert (4/5): - Hotel is in a good location 15 minutes walk from the town centre with shops and restaurants. This however is massively let down by very poor communication with the actual hotel. Upon arrival all we where presented with was a phone number to call to be sent the details on how to access our room this is not what I was expecting after a 3 hour drive. The hotel itself IV very dated with very basic facilities. There was no breakfast provided and at £82 a night then price is very steep for what is offered for a similar price there are other hotels available
- James W Holland (10/5): Great stay. - Our room was perfect for our stay. Great comms with Martin, he went the extra mile! Thank you!
Highly recommended, we will definitely stay here again.
- Haydn (2/5): - The outside looked very dirty and we trief to het in but couldn't do the code so we had to spend out and book in another accommodation so wiuld lik a refund
- Verified traveler (10/5): Value for money - Check-in was simple, we were emailed a door code so completely contactless.
We were expecting a double bed room, but got two single beds so we just pushed them together. Amenities are pretty basic but the location is good for visiting Cheltenham and the cost is good value so was about as expected.
- Sally (6/5): - In need of some modernisations, soft furnishings and decor…. Great location for town tho and reasonably priced
- Callum (10/5): - Very happy with my stay. The hotel manager was very accommodating and friendly. Helped me with parking and was very responsive to my requests.
Will definitely stay here whenever I’m in Cheltenham.
Hotel and room met my expectations. The breakfast tray and fresh fruit in the room was a nice touch.
- Richard (8/5): - There was no breakfast but in the ad it stated breakfast
- Andy (10/5): - I liked this place, it may seem dated to some but had everything I needed
- Martin (10/5): - Really convenient for racecourse and town centre. Clean, quiet and great value.
- Denise (8/5): - Warm, clean and comfy
- NEIL (10/5): - Ideal for anyone who needs to be close to Cheltenham as everything is in walking distance
- Edward (6/5): Overnight stay Cheltenham. - Basic price, basic room. Very hard small pillows. Ok breakfast provided in room. Only parking for 3 cars.
- Ceri (8/5): - Clean and the breakfast in the room was an added benefit. Will happily stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not a hotel - Not really a hotel. Just a series of locked rooms you let yourself in with a code but never see anyone. No breakfast even though included. Very uncomfortable beds.
- Tom (6/5): 100% use again. Great value for money. - Essentially, a room in a guest house. Decor is outdated and bed isn’t 5* comfort but the ‘pantry’ was stocked with cereal, tinned fruit, tea, coffee, biscuits, fresh fruit bowl and in the fridge there was orange juice, fresh milk and bottled water.
Bathroom facilities were fine! I actually think this is fantastic value for the price, especially when you factor in keyless entry, location and what they provided for breakfast!
- Beverley M (8/5): - A comfortable stay in a quiet hotel
- Terry (10/5): Beautiful House - The house is beautiful with period features and a would have once had a very grand appearance, this is still quite evident today, I will most definitely come back, excellent service, cleanliness etc.
- robert (2/5): - not worth the amount it was like sleeping in a bedsit in the 80s
- Tracy (8/5): Family stay - Beautiful Edwardian property. Room was huge with lovely features.
Garden area appreciated this summer evening.
Good breakfast supplied for the morning. Cereal, tin fruit, cereal bars and milk.
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent service - Martin was a fantastic host and ensured we could have our room an hour earlier than standard 2pm.
- Nicholas (6/5): - The property was beautiful from the outside but the facilities were very old-fashioned, beds extremely hard. We liked the continental breakfast which was a self-serve option
- Martin (8/5): - Basic, clean, quiet. Very good communication with venue who promptly replied to queries on parking. Room fitted out with breakfast goodies, such a good idea as I had to leave early. Close to eateries and bars, walkable.
Good value for money
- Phillip (6/5): - For the price the room was ok - basic, tired and dated, but 'ok'. My shower room was tiny so no room to get dry and the toilet was on a pedestal and much higher than 'normal' so not ideal!!
The details say a continental breakfast is available but in realit, in the room are two or three prepackaged single portion breakfast items, a tin of fruit, some fresh fruit, a yoghurt and a pint of milk.
There is no mention in the details that the hotel is unmanned.
It's low cost and near Cheltenham centre.
- Marc (6/5): - Bed was too hard, shower took ages to get warm and the fridge was noisy
- Christine (2/5): - It was very dated, the wardrobe door had no handle, the bedding was completely mismatched, not even 1 matching pillow case! Carpet was stained and the top of the cupboard was filthy. The fridge was handy as were the tea making facilities. Note it is a keyless, staffless property and the 'included breakfast' was 2 yoghurts, 2 small juice cartons and a pint of milk in the fridge. 2 snack size cornflakes, 2 muesli bars, a tin of oranges and a tin of peaches in the cupboard. No heating at all.
- David (8/5): - excellent value for money
- Helen (10/5): - I love the old traditional property and found it very relaxing and comfortable.
- Tracy (6/5): - Property basic as we already told . Clean great location
- Duncab (10/5): - Very agreeable
- Ross (8/5): Good stay. Clean, comfortable, quiet. - Good stay. Clean and simple accommodation. Said continental breakfast was included when I booked but wasnt provided, but otherwise did the job perfectly. Quiet and comfortable.
- Madeleine (6/5): - The room was adequate and what I expected as I have stayed there before. I chose the hotel again because of the little extras in the room, like cereal, bottle of milk, yogurt, orange, fruit, things not found in other basic rooms. It served my purpose and I will definitely stay again.
- Paul (8/5): Reasonable for the price - Colleagues were aghast at choice, but if you're happy with basic and go in eyes open then the room was functional, tidy and clean. Had necessary bed, bathroom plus a fridge and microwave if needed.
A little bit cold and slightly noisy till traffic died down given old windows but did the job just fine and well for the price.
Don't expect Ritz, but fair quality for the price paid.
- Madeleine (6/5): - This was a very basic hotel. It was clean and tidy but what really made it for me were the little extras that you don’t normally now get. There were actual biscuits, fresh fruit, milk, yogurt, orange juice, water bottles in a fridge in the room and also an microwave and even soap and shower gel that weren’t in a wall decanter. Totally unexpected but gratefully received. I would definitely stay there again m. Well done .
- Thomas (6/5): - Only stayed one night and was no need for contact with staff hence average score. Comfortable room, en suite bathroom, did not use them but items were provided for a basic breakfast, cereal, porridge pack, milk, tinned fruit, yogurt, cereal bar. Plenty of tea and coffee provided. Fridge in room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Helpful staff - Basic
- Verified traveler (8/5): simple room and bathroom - Functional clean room. Great for someone who just needs somewhere to stay for a night or 2 and isn't fussed about extra facilities
- Philip (4/5): - My room was double booked and a person entered the room after I resident. He did have a booking and he had the correct codes, same as mine, to enter the building and the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortably Above Average - High ceilings, multitude of plug sockets, good amenities for the price, good position and pleasing views. The codes for the front door and room were initially a pain, but I came to appreciate not having to lug a key around with me.
- Leopold (8/5): OK as Cheap option in Cheltenham - The Kingsmuir continues to be an option for short stays in Cheltenham. The breakfast options have been reduced over the years and no noticable maintenance has been done.
It has limited parking, and with a change in the rules for street parking due soon, this may become a problem. Maybe the hotel can secure guest parking when the area around is residents only, (some other hotels in Cheltenham have this)
- Chris (4/5): - It was like a trip back to a 1960s bedsit.
Not really a hotel and, consequently, overpriced for what it actually is: a little, grubby room in an old house with very basic, dated facilities.
If advertised for half the price, and as a hostel, this might be a fairer representation of the accommodation.
Breakfast a huge disappointment: a pack of cornflakes and carton of cheap juice stored in the wardrobe: bizarre!
- Russel (10/5): - I very much enjoyed the stay, quiet, close to town centre, easily accessible.
- Keith (8/5): Basic but adequate - Hotel provided all it advertised but it's basic. Manager is friendly and helpful and the hotel is ideally situated to explore the area.
- Marianne (2/5): - The price was advertised at £96 yet my card was charged £112! I wasn’t sent the entrance code so had to wait outside the property for 30 minutes while the landlord texted me the room number and code. When he texted, it was for the wrong room and we opened some else’s room with someone inside which scared the women inside and me. It was scary trying to get into our room as it was very dark and the lights were on push timer buttons which kept going off half way through entering the entry code. I had to go back outside and call the owner again. When we finally got into our room, there were bugs in the bed. There was no breakfast just one small packet of variety cornflakes and an Alpen bar in the cupboard. The shower was either to cold or too hot and low pressure. Overall it was an unpleasant experience and very expensive for the quality of the service, interior and lack of proper breakfast.
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Found suitable parking on side street near hotel.
Breakfast was provided but didn't find it in time as it was not obvious where it was
- MARTIN (10/5): - Good
- Charles (2/5): - Check-in fine.
Old, half eaten food left in fridge alongside new - Yuck!
Bin in bathroom hadn't been cleaned out. Vile
- Verified traveler (2/5): Cheep hotel, spend more if you can - The hotel is not staffed, and the sash windows are loose and drafty this was one of the coldest nights of the year. Single glazed loose windows. The breakfast included was a box of cereal and some UHT milk with a tin is fruit. Not the cooked breakfast expected. The bathroom was horrible and from the 50s. Had to run the shower for 20 min to get warm water to drip from it. It was cheep but a wastes of money.
- Derek (8/5): - Only 8 minutes walk to town centre. Ideal for show/meal.
Great customer service, my comments taken on board.
DIY breakfast in the room is unusual, but well provided and in line with price.
We will stay again.
- christopher (10/5): - Great stay, in a very good location!
- Frank (4/5): Disappointing, missing any TLC, no frills - When we turned up at the hotel it was very disappointing.
THere was no one on site - it was all remote managed and we had been sent 2 codes in an email (front door and room door) to get in. I hadnt realized this so lucky I had a working phone otherwise ringing the bell would have served no purpose...
It was also difficult to find the hotel, since Pittville Circus is a circle with a number of houses on, no numbers and no names visible mostly. I ended up calling the remote manager to find out where to go.
THe building is nice from the outside, but in our view very run-down. There has not been an attempt to make it look nice inside it seems the investment was purely in putting up drywalls to create as many rooms as possible. THe decor was like you would find in a furniture auction from a diseased relative. The wardrobe was full of dust so didnt put anything in there. THe ensuite was a joke - I couldnt believe how small the room was for toilet, shower, sink. THe mirror in the bathroom was hung up with electrical flex. THe only window was very small.
We had been looking forward to a cooked breakfast as there was "free breakfast" indicated on the hotel page. However no one was there. INstead the room had a fridge and we were instructed to fashion our own "continental breakfast" out of the ingredients: 3 yoghurts, 2 fruit juices, 2 mini cornflakes boxes, 2 packets of choco croissant. Extremely disappointing.
It was relatively cheap, but in our view not worth it.
- Michael (6/5): - Fine for a quick stop in bu
- janet (4/5): Awful stay. - Hotel had scaffolding over it. Builders started work at 7 am. Nowhere was this mentioned when we booked.
Dirty underwear under the bed, mould in bathroom.
No parking available, contrary to description.
- Mark (4/5): A bad place! - Terrible place which was undergoing major works. Should be closed while these are ongoing. No parking availability (taken over by contractors). The inclusive breakfast was non existent! A place to avoid
- Leopold (8/5): Decent priced property for area - I have stayed in the property several times. I find it a decent property with good sized rooms. It is cleaned to an acceptable standard and always appears neat and tidy.
There is no on site service, with breakfasts left in the room
Prior to the COVID Lock downs, there was also a kitchen on the first floor where guests could supplement the breakfast provisions. Extra bread, butter, jam and fruit were always available here - and on occasion, ham, cheese and pork pies were sometimes in the fridge.
This kitchen has now closed down, and the breakfasts provided in the room have been scaled down considerably. In particular, there is no longer bread, butter, jam or a toaster in the room.
- Carol (8/5): 2-night stay - Basic amenities - good value for money. Bathroom mirror installed by a tall man - I could only see the top of my head!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - My stay was ok, i can not complain.
Basically you get what you pay for
- Susan (8/5): - Property in very nice area close to town
- Patrick (8/5): - We found the property was ideally located for our needs and in a lovely area. Although there is no reception we had no trouble on accessing the building and our room. The room itself , room no.2, was clean and very big but it did have a bit of a smell (nothing that a bit of deodorant couldn't sort out) It could do with a bit of tlc just to bring it a bit up to date. There was a small damp patch on the carpet near the bathroom that probably needs looking at and a couple of loose tiles on the floor. That said we enjoyed our stay in Cheltenham and would stay at this hotel again. 👍
- Neil (6/5): - Cheap and cheerful. Terrible mattress and 4 year out of date apple juice!
- Kristian (10/5): - Excellent.. check in was easy sent details few days before. Easy paking outside property .. all very nice an clean inside building
Room itself was great nice n warm big room nice shower - bathroom .. great breakfast left .. peaches. Grapefruit in tins , yoghurt , porridge , cornflakes ,shredded wheat tea coffee hot choclate .
Small bottle of water .. loved the place an would highly recommend
- Denise (8/5): April 2022 - The hotel was easy to access keyless as was the room. The room was dated but in keeping with the rest of the house. Bed was clean and comfortable, the washroom was clean and of a good size. The breakfast was a bit sparse with only 1 of each item available - not great for two people. An easy 15 min walk to the town centre.
- Jonathan (6/5): - You get what you pay for …
It was just adequate …
But it was super cheap, clean ….
Let’s say “very 76shabby chic !)
- N (2/5): Basic shocker!! - Looks like somewhere for the homeless. Discarded masonry on drive. Dilapidated lockup at the front. Dirty old net curtains in windows. 2nd hand furniture. Ancient decore. Etc etc. Shocker. We walked iut and went elsewhere
- Max (10/5): - Shower not working but great place to stay for a day at races and for town nearby
- Gillian (8/5): Enjoyable but wouldn’t stay again - We had a 2 night stay it was ok. The handle on the wardrobe was broken, the bed was not very comfortable. There was plenty of juice and cornflakes etc for breakfast. Ran out of toilet roll. Parking very limited and if you couldn’t find a space you had to park in the street next to the hotel. Management quick to respond via phone with any query’s which was great.
- Jack (8/5): - No complaints at all for an overnight stay for the races. Allowed early check-in, room was clean and comfortable and a great price. Most definitely would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A bit disappointing - We found the hotel to be very dated and quite unclean which is a shame as the guy who owns it was perfectly friendly and happy to help, the location is fantastic and the building has so much potential. There was a lot of dust, a strange smell and hairs in the bath and on the walls. The shower was tricky to work and tended to just be super hot or really cold. And when you sat on the toilet, your legs dangle off the floor because it was on a mini platform. We liked the little breakfast snacks (mini cereal packets, juice boxes and fruit with a couple of individually wrapped croissants) but I think it should be made clear that this is what they mean by breakfast included. We used our tesco vouchers so done feel too hard done by but if we would have paid full whack then we would not have been best pleased.
- Linda (8/5): Great location - Great location and close to Cheltenham Race Course. Beside Parkville Park which is good for families or walking/running.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Uncomfortable. - Cold room, uncomfortable beds which made us feel like we were spending the night on a mortuary slab, only one thin pillow, no spares in the wardrobe, we had to stack the towels under the pillow we did have.
Shower door didn’t close properly and the shower head spurted water out to the side soaking me and the whole very small shower room, water went hot and cold intermittently. Limited breakfast options. Would not stay again.
- MISS LUCY (2/5): APPALLING - I was honestly appalled at my stay on Friday 27th August.
Firstly as a single female I DID NOT feel safe. The reason I chose not to stay at a hostel was to feel safe and when I entered the premises of Kingsmuir I felt extremely uneasy!
Secondly I had to choose between either having a freezing cold or scolding hot shower. The water temperature will not regulate no matter what I did. It was highly unpleasant and in the end I just gave up. So I was unable to have a shower. The least you pay for with accommodation is a shower, a bed and a roof over your head. This is unacceptable.
The general smell of must is was also not appreciated. It was honestly alike staying in an old decrepit house.
In addition to the above I found the 'continental' breakfast promised to be very disappointing. It simply comprised of two sad looking apples, a very unappetising hard pear; the cheapest most sugary yoghurt one could find, a children's croissant and a tin of grapefruit. Who even eats grapefruit!? The ham and cheese promised in your prior email was hot there.
There was also a rather rude instruction in red behind the door demanding for guests to leave at 10am despite my booking reservation saying I could leave at 1030.
Finally I feel that each guest having to use their fingers to manually enter the code on 2 separate doors to enter their room. This is not a keyless system and stated and literally just continues to further spread covid.
- David (8/5): - No problems whatsoever with my stay... it is important to keep in mind how cheap this room was and measure expectations accordingly... large comfortable room... slept really well... good clear communication regarding check in procedure... i didn't have any probs with parking... for how cheap the room was i would consider this both a positive review and a bargain
- Verified traveler (8/5): Back to basics, peaceful stay - It was perfectly average and comfortable decor. Most importantly clean, en-suite bathroom/shower all good, quiet night’s rest on firm but not too firm
Mattress with just the right fluff in pillows for me :-) Everything worked smoothly and checkin/out was on time without any hassle.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It had codes for entry therefore no staff which was ok. Parking was difficult. There was a bad smell in my bathroom. Poss drains
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice view over the garden and a lovely spacious room in a secluded part of town and very little noise around.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location. Room as expected - basic but clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice property. Easy walking distance to the town centre and Cheltenham College (for the cricket festival).
- Iain (6/5): Good and affordable but needs black out curtains - Codes on doors meant I could check in whenever and so it didn't matter that I had plans in the day. Unfortunately the curtains in the room only stopped people from looking in and so I was woken up at sunrise. Good and affordable place once thicker/black out curtains are put in.
