Guest Reviews
- Timothy (10/5): - The staff here are really great. I had a small lost property issue at the airport and they really helped me resolve it… went above and beyond. Room was clean and quiet and very central if you like nightlife, but local to most things and near the river if you want a wonder …
- Graham (10/5): - Great location and receptionist very nice and helpful. I would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Getaway to Phnom Penh - Perfect stay. Great staff!
- Christopher (8/5): - Considering the location, the room was very quiet and I was able to sleep. I only needed one night and I had no issues with this hotel. They were very nice.
- David (10/5): - The Golden House International Hotel is an excellent family run hotel right in the middle of the Riverside action. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The appearance is Khmer rather than ‘international’ and the beds are a little firm. Bathrooms are old fashioned but perfectly functional. It’s not for everyone, if you’re looking for a quiet serene retreat this isn’t for you. But if you like night action and appreciate very good value, you can’t really go wrong with this hotel.
- Richard (8/5): - Nice hotel in a very lively part of town, but surprisingly little disturbance from the streets outside.
Good value, and if you want to stay in the heart of the nightlife, it'd be hard to pick a better choice.
- Dan (8/5): - Location was excellent.
Lobby was a bit run down, old style, but adequate for the price range.
Staff family (?) and baby sleeping on the lobby floor, in bedding, at most hours of the day was a bit disconcerting and unprofessional. Made it seem like more of a family hostel than an actual hotel.
Staff was attentive and helpful however.
It's in a girly bar district, and caters to girly bar customers. Expect nothing more, nothing less.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - スタッフの愛想もよく、チェックアウト後の荷物の預かりも嫌な顔せず応じてくれました。フロントがクーラーの効きが悪く、とても暑かったので、気になったのはそこぐらいです。部屋のクーラーはガンガン効きます。
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very near entertainment district. Great English speaking staff, very friendly and polite.
- Timothy (8/5): Nice hotel close to nightlife on Street 136 - Nice staff, very friendly and helpful. Nice selection of food at very good cheap prices. The room was clean if a bit plain. They have secure Wi-Fi and power outlets for standard U.S. powercords (220V, 50hz) which some of the fancier more expensive hotels don't.
- Cunno (10/5): - Very helpful staff. An excellent location. Second time
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's fine. Close to Riverfront and all the night-time action. Nothing to complain about.
- Will (8/5): - Got a room with no windows, which was good because of all the noisy pubs nearby. Room was comfortable and clean, and had a combination safe and a small fridge. Breakfast was decent with omelet, juice, toast, and tea, and can be delivered to the room. Hotel staff was very helpful and spoke English well. Located close to the river and many restaurants and bars.
- Timothy (10/5): Good choice for centrally located hotel - Good hotel located right in the middle of the action. Just a block or so away from the river. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Rooms are adequate and clean. Small issue with the in room safe. They are older and sometimes not easy to opperate. Also epips be nice to have more than one coffee included in breakfast. Overall great stay and would recommend.
- tony (6/5): Nice hotel in a central position - Nothing to complain about but nothing to praise about either i enjoyed the location
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good security and location - good:
-aircon
-big size room
-location
bad:
-shower curtain mouldy
-hot water takes long time to heatup and goes from hot to cold
- safe is difficult to use (i locked myself out 3 times)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel close to the riverside - The hotel was close to everything. I had the basic room, it had no windows and was on the small side. The nightlife was on the door stop but since my room had no windows I did not have any noise problem. The hotel should have key cards to open doors but still uses the old fashioned key. There mini market near where you can buy water, juice etc.
- Sritharan (10/5): - It was a great stay
- SADP (4/5): - Room has smell, breakfast was no good. The hotel is good for those who are going for night life. I would not recommend it for couples, family, or poeple going for business.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel, clean, friendly staff. Very close to the river, and all the action
- Verified traveler (10/5): Golden house international - Great hotel with amazing staff! The location couldn't be any better plant of food and drink options about.
- Pran (10/5): Well located - The hotel is well located near the river. It is on a street full of bars and nightlife places. So, not an ideal place if you visit with family. Otherwise, for single or business travel the location is great.
- Zackary (8/5): Great Location - The hotel is really all about location. If you enjoy nightlife and want to be in the middle of the action, this is a perfect spot to stay. The room and hotel itself are fairly comfortable - this is not the Ritz, but it's not a dump either. The AC worked great, the wifi was strong, and the staff were friendly. The hot water worked great in the shower, and overall the room and bathroom were fairly clean. Zero complaints, and I would stay here again.
- Jim (10/5): Great hotel for the price - Pros
1. Price - 30 bucks per night
2. Location - Close to river front and couple of feet away from great night life.
3. Staff - Very accomodating
4. Room - Comfy bed, great showers and most importantly a huge safe deposit box in the room. I actually put my 13 inches laptop
5. Breakfast
Cons
1. I can't think of any but probably wouldn't recommend for families. It's not about the hotel but about the location
- Bonnie (6/5): Great location but noisy - Fantastic location close to riverside, bars & restaurants however it is right in the "entertainment" (i.e red light) precinct & the noise often carries over until the next morning. Take your ear plugs! Otherwise comfortable.
- Brett (10/5): Gem in the heart of tourist street - Quick visit to Phnom Penh to show a friend the tourist sites.
Needed somewhere clean, safe, secure, central. This place fits all requirements.
- Nigel (10/5): Excellent Location and price ! - Hotel is spotless but quite basic but excellent value for money. Right in the heart of everything.
Breakfast excellent and staff very helpful.
- Paul (10/5): Comfort in the heart of town near Sisovath Quay - Golden House Intenational is a comfortable clean hotel with friendly helpful hospitable staff, especially the indefatiguably energetic and perenially smiling Mai. The hotel is close to Sisovath Quay and the Central market. It is in the nightlife area with its accompanying hum and buzz and pulse, so it may not be the hotel of choice for guests not enamoured of noise, colour and activity at night. There are many interesting places to eat very close along the Sisovath Boulevard. I have stayed at this hotel before and I would stay again. I highly recommend Golden House International.
- Doug (10/5): Good time in Cambodia - Great location. Good food. Prices are reasonable. Staff was great. I would go back for sure. There really is no better location in Phnom Penh. Elevator was handy. Easy to get a taxi.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good choice close to the river - The hotel staff are great, they were very helpful with everything I needed. The hotel is clean and comfortable. It is located close to the river in an entertainment area with lots of restaurants, bars, and some tourist attractions within easy walking distanc. Because of its proximity to the bars it can be a little noisy into the late hours of the night so maybe ask for a room in the upper floors.
- Glenn (8/5): A solid choice at a good price - I stayed here twice on a recent trip to visit a friend. This is a Cambodian run hotel, and my ratings reflect the fact that it's in Cambodia and that it's trying to be an affordable hotel. If you compared this to U.S. hotels the ratings would be a bit lower. The staff was very friendly and very eager to make sure I was satisfied, and that was great. The hotel felt very safe and secure, and had a small safe in the room. The AC was ice cold, and the wireless was great. The bed was clean and comfortable. If your used to U.S. hotels you might not like the cheap towels. So as a Cambodian hotel - a solid choice at a good price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good value, everything worked. - I highly recommend this hotel. Good value, nice people, good service, As many reviews have noted, it is in the middle of the girly bar part of town, which means it is noisy on the streets at night, but if that is not a problem for you, it is a nice place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Centrally located - Close to river front bars, restaurants and attractions.
- Gautam B. (8/5): Very good hotel in Central Phnom Penh - I have stayed here several times. The staff is very friendly, the hotel is in a central location, two minutes walk from riverside, and it is inexpensive.. Breakfast is good, A/c works great, rooms are clean - I will come back here for sure.
- Timothy (10/5): Nice place - I was very impressed with the Hotel. During the stay the electricity was down nearly 2 days so the surrounding area was without any electricity, but they had an excellent generator so the room stayed cool, WiFi worked, and the elevator worked. The hotel staff was always smiling and happy with good English skills.
- Graeme (2/5): NIGHTMARE ON 136 STREET - I have stayed in over 500 hotels and this was the worst! I can not believe it rates so high. The staff were terrible. After 2 days of my room not being clean I had to ask and was told you have to leave the key at the desk, was I supposed to guess this? When it was finally serviced, they don't change the sheets just make the bed. There is a night club out side the window that goes to between 3 am and 5 am, the music is so loud it would keep a deaf person awake, seriously, louder than a tv on full volume in your room playing Cambodian music. I had to stay up till they closed. The pictures you see on line of the reception area don't show the 12 locals laying around on the furniture, no shoes and looking untidy. There is not ac in what is supposed to be the bar, which is also where you would are expected to eat if you order food. When you get there you have to carry your luggage up 20 steps. Seriously it was horrendous. The only up side was the wifi is ok.
- mike (8/5): clean and comfortable hotel close to the river and - a three day stay which we enjoyed , the staff and management where excellent and made our stay very enjoyable . the breakfast was first class with a good choice of menu the omelette was one of the best i have had
- James (10/5): Excellent, convenient but busy location - In general everything was fine about my stay here. Service was great, and the room was clean.
I thought the room was a bit small for the price. Also this was literally at the center of the night life (almost a little too close), either you'll like that or you won't.
- Nagarajan (8/5): very Good for me - Best for solo persons to enjoy the nearbye nightlife
- Manoj (10/5): Nice hotel close to the important sites - Our hotel stay was very comfortable with nice and helpful staff. Furthermore, the hotel was just a few minutes walk to major attractions such as the Royal palace, central and night market.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to river and nightlife - The room was small but big enough. Lots of noise from street. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Wifi was pretty slow.
- Ray (8/5): Good Value - If you're a single traveller or an open minded couple on a budget, then this is an excellent choice. Rooms are basic but very clean and it is a short walk to the centre of town. If you are a family, take note that it is right in the middle of a street full- and I mean full!- of hostess bars. They're not really sleazy or anything, but children might ask awkward questions like 'why are they all wearing mini-skirts and hugging old men?'.
Otherwise, go for it, the hotel itself is fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great wee 3 star hotel - Just checked out an hour ago, these people really know how to look after you. Food any time of day and night, great value I stayed 9 days my check out bill was $34 which included laundry, some beers and plenty of food. Clean safe place to stay, they would literally jump to your attention every time you came out of the elevator or in the front door. I got a sim card stuck in my phone (twice lol) and they would not give up till they fixed it for me, and that was the girls. Well worth a visit if in Phnom penh
- Adrian (8/5): Great location - Hotel is just like less than 100 meter to the riverside making it within the happening places
Try to get the room further from facing the street below where most of the pub and bar located. These joint opens quite late at night till wee hours.
Staff are friendly and speak English. Room is tidy and clean. Like the bathroom tiles more.
- Peter (8/5): Nice little central hotel - Perfect for the 5 days in was in Phnom Penh.Cant complain about this hotel at all, especially for the price charged.located in a busy street, near lots of bars, and nightlife, and meters from the lovely riverside.family run hotel, with a high standard of service.you get a good feel for how nice the khmer people are from hotels such as these. Will come back for sure.
- Titus (2/5): Shady activity - The hotel is low priced, has a good location, and the room is comfortable - but, it's very noisy and on a street with a lot of shady activity. It felt uncomfortable when some of the guests were participating in the shady activity openly. For example, we saw several old white men with young Cambodia women at breakfast. I'll let you make your own conclusions. Pretty disturbing so I wouldn't stay there again.
- Lonny (10/5): Good price and great location - Great location near the river and within walking distance to many restaurants and night life. The English speaking staff were very friendly and helpful and the room included breakfast. A great hotel for the price. We will stay here again next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location. Very nice hotel. Clean and comfort - Spent 2 days in Phnom Penh and saw lots of interesting sights. Highly recommend.
- vic (4/5): Close to all the nite live - The hotel is clean the staff are great But the beds and pillows are like sleeping on the ground so hard ,the bathroom was the biggest disappointment the floor is always wet ,due to no shower screens . You have a shower every thing gets wet.
- Tracee (8/5): Good enough - There was nothing particularly special about this hotel. Very basic but good service and decent, plain rooms. Location is one block from the promenade along the river. Their food was quite good.
- SK (8/5): Great location. Close to all tourist attractions - The hotel is in great location and the reception staff are very helpful and speak good english. Rooms are OK. Breakfast has very limited choice and is the same everyday.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good family run hotel - Great hotel, good location, hotel was clean and comfortable, staff very pleasant
- Jess (10/5): Clean, modern hotel in convenient location. - Hotel exceeded my expectations given the low price we paid. It was very modern, clean and staff were always helpful. It was a tad noisy so take ear plugs but given the superb location (if you want to be in the hussel and bussel) that is expected. Only other downside was the bath wasn't securely fixed to the ground so it would rock while showering. This wasn't a big issue but just something to be noted. Would definitely recommend for people staying in Phnom Penh for a few nights and wanting to see all the major attractions.
- AM (8/5): A good hotel in the riverside area - We were two nights at this modest hotel perfectly situated in the middle of the riverside area in Phnom Penh, a short walk to the Palace, the market, and the national museum. The hotel is located on several floors, with the entrance on the first floor. However, there is an elevator that reaches to the ground floor to move baggage. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Rooms are neat and clean and have individual air conditioning units. Windows fit tightly reducing the noise from the street so sleeping was not a problem even though the bars on the street are open late into the night.
- LM (6/5): Do not book the costliest rooms, on the street.... - Don't expect the most expensive rooms to be the best: there is so much noise with all the brothels around that you will not sleep, even with ear plugs. Rooms at the back are cheaper and very quiet but darker with a very small window facing a very close wall. As people come and go during the night to and from the neighbouring brothels, expect to have someone shout in the hall in the middle of the night... Apart from that, hotel is spotless clean and staff very friendly and helpful.
- Eva Eriksson (10/5): Great hotel with fantastic service - We stayed here for 2 nights. We had a room without window and I think it was a good choise because it was very quiet. The breakfast was very good. The location was in one way very good, close to the river with many different restaurants. Just outside the hotel were some bars that were a little bit noisy. Overall I reccomend this hotel it's well worth the price.
- Alex (10/5): Such a great hotel! - Such a great hotel - clean, well located and very friendly staff. I had read some reviews saying that there was noise from the street. While it is a very lively area, we had no problem at all with noise. We stayed in the front room on the first floor (i.e. the room most at risk of being noisy because it is just above the street) but we slept soundly for the 2 nights we stayed there and were not bothered at all. In fact we enjoyed being able to watch the streetscape from the relative calm of the hotel room. The Goldenhouse staff are so friendly and answered all our questions in detail, helped us with booking trips around PP, and in booking a bus to Sihanoukville. Oh, and the lime juices prepared by the bartender are delicious!
- alan (8/5): - hotel was well placed for evening drinking and eating. people were very friendly. glad I came to phnom phen on my way to see the temples
- ash (8/5): Ideal and convenient rivrerside location - Stayed 2,nights very pleased for the price .well maintained and spotlessly clean
Seemed family run very friendly and helpful people for all the services
Good breakfast brought to you rather then usual buffets
The location convenient for everything
- Pasi (8/5): Everything works. Good service - Stayed three nights at the hotel. Hotel is very clean. Everything in the hotel worked as they should. Staff is very helpful. WiFi was great. Safetybox is big enough to hold MacBook Air 13". Price could be a bit lower.
- yabbaldy (10/5): Cool enough for me. - Good location,(Great for me ) Nice Hotel, Manager and Wife, staff, very helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately when I returned to Phnom Penh, they were fully booked. I would certainly stay there, next time (If available). FYI. Can be a bit noisy in some rooms, with windows, but as I said before, very accommodating people, so I`m sure they try their best to suit. Literally 2mins walk from Riverside. Plenty of temples/markets/trips/views (or not) also bars and places to eat for all, on your doorstep, or nearby. Cool place, wish I was still there. NB. There are cheaper and more expensive places, across the street but you get what you pay for.
- Lauren (8/5): Nice hotel near nightlife - This hotel was nice but it was right next to a bunch of bars. If you are there for the nightlife then it is perfect. If you are there for a good nights sleep it might not be the best place to get it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
- Sprig (8/5): Great location - Near to all local amenities, restaurants, food, bar etc. Room is clean and tidy.
- AW (8/5): - Nice hotel and very nice staff. We didn't try the food at the hotel because they didn't look like they had much to offer. The room was more upscale than a few others we stayed at in Cambodia. Only down side is St 136 is all girly bars. It's pretty depressing to see the male travelers using women like that. The area is also very noisy all night long.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect hotel - Clean, with everything you need at the right price.
- Victor (10/5): Very Central, clean rooms, and great service. - Staff was very helpful and the hotel was next to the river and very central to everything. Breakfast was very good as well. For the money, this was an amazing place to stay.
- KS (10/5): Very happy - Great location, friendly staff and lovely room.
- Wayne Foy (8/5): Really good service from staff - Good proximity to restaurants, bars and sites. Really helpful staff who booked and had bus tickets delivered to the hotel in less than 12 hours. Rooms decent size, comfy and really good wifi. Overall couldn't fault the value.
- Ashman (8/5): Small but nice hotel - Ita a small but nice hotel , great staff , a family run business , so owners are mostly around .For the price and location its a good hotel . I will be here for sure if and when in combodia.
- Rich & Kate (8/5): Great value hotel next to the river - The Golden House International is a short walk down one of the roads direct opposite the promenade at the river side. For us this was perfect as on the warm evenings we could easily go for a stroll there to see the sights and soak in the atmosphere. There is also a wide selection of restaurants along that stretch to suit most tastes too. The hotel itself was kept to high standard and the rooms were relative luxury considering the rate charged. There was a small amount of construction noise in the middle of the day but generally most people are out and about then anyway and really this just goes to show that the hotel are renovating further to improve the standard of rooms. If you need a comfortable hotel for a reasonable price in a nice part of the capital then you can't go far wrong with this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location, amazing staff!! - The tuk tuk drivers know where the hotel is as the street it is on is quite famous. Once we reached the staff were efficient, and our room was super clean and tidy. We really enjoyed our stay. I went there with my mum, and had read previous reviews that the hotel was located in the red light district. So yes, it is located in the red light district, but this is definitely a really happening part of town, and also an area with lots of bars and people and also really safe. We did not feel threatened or uncomfortable in any way. We would definitely stay here again, it is a great place, really well located and very comfortable!
- Alfie (10/5): Nice, clean spot in the heart of the river front - Clean rooms, attentive staff. On st. 136, 2 minute walk to riverfront. St. 136 has lots of hostess bars, which you may or may not like, but there are lots of other places around. I would stay here again. One thing though - do check if breakfast is included when you book your room. They will assume that it isn't, so you have to specify if it is.
- Al (10/5): Great hotel for exploring riverfront area - Clean rooms, attentive staff. On st. 136, 2 minute walk to riverfront. St. 136 has lots of hostess bars, which you may or may not like, but there are lots of other places around.
I would stay here again.
