Guest Reviews
- Martin (10/5): - Everything was excellent. Appreciated access to chilled water to refill drinking bottles at any time, also hot water for tea and hot coffee and biscuits for early risers like us at the dining hall. Honesty system at the well stocked bar. Lovely swimming pool, well maintained birding trails. Staff rearranged a night walk with other guests to accomodate us, really enjoyed it, Kevin was a great guide making sure everyone had a good view of the wildlife.
Comfortable room set in the rainforest, great shower, outside area and a good fan to keep cool inside. Amazing wildlife, especially the birds in the well maintained gardens. Baird's Trogon nesting next to reception and a wide range of species, needed more time to take them all in. A quiet and peaceful place with respectful guests.
Enjoyed all meals, catered well for us as we are vegetarians.

- Alison (10/5): Perfect. - The location is wonderful. The cabins were nicely laid out in the grounds to take in the surroundings and afford a reasonable amount of privacy. Bird life is amazing everywhere. The staff were lovely and Fernando the guide was exceptional. The other guests were mainly on organised group tours but that didn’t spoil the atmosphere. It was the most expensive stay of our entire trip but the unique location made it worth it. We liked everything.

- Georg (9/5): Ein faszinierender Ort um den Regenwald zu genießen, dazu werden schöne Ausflüge angeboten - Schöne und geräumige Zimmer. Gutes Essen.Herrlicher Garten.
- Stuart (7/5): Though the property is a bit dated, the experience could actually be very good with some simple improvements in food qua - Decent sized grounds, night walks, pleasant helpful team. Birds reptiles and occasional mammals around if you know where to look Food was very basic, limited in quantity and with no choices. Generally a bit tired and dated
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (9/5): Fantastic place to visit - Everything was perfect Early morning noise from your guides and staff going to the laundry
- Griet (9/5): Pleasant stay, very comfortable - Beautiful surroundings
- Marianne (8/5): - Beautiful rainforest property with good birding opportunity, birds song, cicadas, and frogs, but "touristy", so the natural vibe gets ruined. It seems they cater to tour groups, so not very private or queit. Have to pay for 3 meals a day but on their schedule that's too late for serious birding and not as healthy as I'd prefer. I travel solo and do not enjoy sitting by myself or wasting time I could be out finding birds sitting in a restaurant. I go ut birding before daybreak so, lunch as late as 13:00 and O MG on the dinner at 19:00 hours! That's almost bedtime for a serious birder, so unhealthy. I also disliked the large group tours and no options for private guide at such a perfect, well known place to find endemic and special birds place. No fridge in room to keep my own food cold. NO WIFI in room!! Make sure you see that. I couldn't message home without walking down to the restaurant (again back out with all the people - exactly the opposite of the serene rainforest experience I'd hoped for.) Sorry to report negativity. It IS a beautiful place if being with a group instead of the self-in-nature is your thing. The road is also in bad condition - narrow with many potholes.
- Lynette (9/5): This was an amazing place, I loved it despite minor details above. - The setting was wonderful. The staff were very kind & helpful. It is a fantastic place. Accommodation was basic but very clean. Understandable considering the location. Fantastic bird sightings. Really loved our walks with Kevin, he was so knowledgeable & helped me get some fantastic photographs. I would recommend staying here definitely if you love nature. Food was quite good not outstanding. Husband said he found the helpings a little small. It would have been nice to have a bread roll with the soups for instance.
- Buch-schweiz (8/5): Very good - We had nice walking- and night-tour with Kevin who let us know a lot about animals but also about the country.
- Fiona (9/5): Enjoyed a relaxing 2 nights here and saw so much wildlife. - Beautiful location and setting. Rooms were spacious and hot showers! The garden area was teeming with life. Caman, Agouti, Coati, Cayman (!), so many beautiful birds and huge variety of frogs. Pool was lovely. Kevin the guide was fantastic, really enjoyed the night hike. Chef was excellent, food was delicious. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. That the bungalows were semi detached.
- Jeni (8/5): Very good -
- Hose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was very good and each meal was bountiful. I gained wait even though I was hiking three times a day.
- Deb (10/5): A spectacular wildlife lodge. - What a spectacular property. A bird watchers paradise. The cabins are rustic but clean no ac. The highlight are the personable and skilled naturalists who lead the tours. We enjoyed a mangrove tour, bird watching walks and a forest night walk all excellent. Being adjacent to a national park there is also abundant wildlife. The pool and lounge areas are lovely. The meal plan is needed to stay here, but we would describe the portions as limited and the menu as limited and uninspired.
- Qma (9/5): Good birding lodge - The staff were exceptional. All the bird guides were helpful, especially Meecedes. The GPS gave the wrong route.
- Lorna (8/5): Very good - Excellent breakfast & dinner
Wonderful location
Brilliant staff No tea//coffee/fridge in rooms
- Lindsey (10/5): Amazing escape from everything!! - It’s beautiful, animals everywhere Nothing!
- Maria (10/5): Fabulous sustainable lodge with lots and lots of wildlife - This is such a fantastic lodge - although it was bigger than most others we stayed in and mostly aimed at tour groups it seemed, it had a very nice quiet and intimate feel to it as the rooms are well spread out and the service very personal. We came for the wildlife and it was absolutely astonishing how much we saw within the lodge grounds (usually without even trying). A highlight for us was the huge variety of frogs (we visited in April) we were shown on the highly recommended night walk, but agoutis, squirrels, hummingbirds, all sorts of lizards, bats, coatis and even a tyra were easy to see (plus caymans at the cayman pond) - some around the feeders but generally throughout the lodge and surrounding areas. Our room was spacious with a well-lit bathroom and nice warm shower. Umbrellas and wellies were provided which was a nice touch if you weren't quite prepared for how wet it can be (even in April!). When we visited the pool was hardly used by other guests which was a bonus for us. They offer a reasobably priced washing service which we appreciated. The food was very nice, but breakfast plus two 3-course meals a day was simply too much for us. All-meals included seems to be the only meal plan option available through Booking.com (at least when we booked), I would have preferred to pay less and only have breakfast and dinner included as to be honest even though it was a really nice lodge the more than doubled price compared to all other (also really nice!) lodges we stayed at in Costa Rica (usually B&B only) was probably not justified in my opinion. However, the lodge operates on a carbon neutral basis and works closely with the local communities and contributes substantially to community projects in the area so I didn't begrudge the price too much in the end, hence my positive rating :)
- Vonda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Judith (10/5): Most enjoyable stay. - All meals were excellent, served in the wonderful restaurant that has a vaulted ceiling yet is open at ground level. Staff were extremely helpful in arranging transport for us both to and from the hotel. Cannot fault the staff who were friendly and very efficient.
Thoroughly recommend.
- Tony (8/5): Immersion in the rainforest - Above all, the location in the rainforest is fabulous. Surrounded by birds and other wildlife. The accommodation is perfectly ok given that wasn't the main reason to stay. The food was great! We had a guided walk where the guide didn't add anything very much other than cost.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful setting but overpriced. - The lodge has a beautiful setting in the forest and the facilities fine. Only the food was disappointing and made me feel the lodge is overpriced. Pity.
