Sally (10/5): Staying at a historic hacienda is a cultural experience, different from staying at a hotel. - The buildings of this historic hacienda date back to the early 1600s! Just think about that! This was my third stay. The husband (Rafael) and his wife (Elizabeth) have owned the hacienda for 15 years and have returned it to good condition. What a great job they have done. The cost to stay here is way above the market. I chose to stay here, despite the cost, because I wanted to relive the good memories I had from visits of years ago.

I was able to unwind amd start my vacation relaxed from the moment I arrived....the world melted away. Their driver met me at airport and handled my luggage. I was greeted with a fresh welcome when I arrived. The meals were AMAZING, and I was served above my means. Truly special experience I will always remeber. Verified traveler (6/5): A work in progress. Right now, 3.5 stars. - This 400 year old property is in the process of being updated and beautified. The owner is working hard, but our bathroom shower still leaked. The grounds are vast and she is happy to show you around the yet to be rehabbed space. Quite interesting and quite a challenge. It is a high gated compound that we didn’t leave and without much around it. If you want it, dinner is $24 + wine. The owner cooks it herself. Good, but pricey.

Susan (10/5): Quite, comfortable, beautiful but away from city - We stayed here one night after flying into Quito at midnight. The Hacienda will pick you up from the airport at no charge. They contacted us as soon as we booked to ask about travel plans. The Hacienda is not in the city and the neighborhood is not great, but it is secure, beautiful, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was included and very good. Wifi is available in the lounge area of the main building. It is 300 years old and the buildings and grounds are beautiful and relaxing. It's 45 minutes from Quito, 20ish from the airport.
Sonia (10/5): Historic Charm - This was an absolute gem of a surprise. We had looked for a accommodation near Quito's international airport and arrived at a 400 hundred year old mansion with 4-foot thick walls! Hostess/proprietor Elizabet graciously settled us into a charming room with hand painted floral designs on the whitewashed walls and matching fittings. We asked for a tour: each room was unique with floral paintings, matching crochet covers, and one-of-a-kind antiques. The food was home made and nourishing and served in the authentic kitchen. Hot water bottles were placed in our beds (tho' the thick walls kept the rooms warm) and there were fresher fruit dipped in chocolate at our bedside! What more could one ask for?

We had to take bath in an old bath tub and it was inconvenient with curtans clinging to your body and leaving no room to move about. Bath room shower area needs a redo. Breakfast is very good. Staff is very courteous. Even did my overnight laundry here.

Michael (10/5): Gorgeous Old Colonial Experience. - For our last night in Ecuador, we spent it here and are sorry we couldn't stay longer. The grounds are gorgeous and the buildings are restored old colonials. Dinner was great and the service excellent and helpful. A bit pricey, but worth it.
Kathleen (10/5): Beautiful Hacienda with WONDERFUL Staff!!! - We were so impressed with this Hacienda and Staff! What a perfect introduction to Ecuador! Erica greeted us as we drove up the leaf arched, cobble stone lane. She gave us a tour of the Hacienda, and saw to our every need! The grounds are immaculately groomed with flowers, vines, trees and roses. The Owner took some time to share some history of the Hacienda with us. Our room was clean, spacious and decorated to maintain the original flavor of this place. The food served in the main dining room was the best we have tasted! Margarita and Thalia, ( the Cooks and Servers) were a perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism! Washington, our taxi driver, gained our confidence immediatly! It was like visiting with a long-time friend! His relatives took us on a very enjoyable and personalized tour of Quito. Even though this Hacienda is close to the airport, it was sooo quiet. We will definitely stay here again!
Anthony (8/5): Beautiful location - Don't pay attention to the "Free shuttle roundtrip" What that actually means is they will pay for a taxi to pick you up from the airport. However you have to pay for the taxi to the airport, and the hotel arranges the price for you (three times the going rate) The upside is our taxi driver was really nice and spoke some english. The grounds were beautiful and our room was incredible. They have no heating so the rooms are cold, but that is a small price to pay for the amazing bed, gorgeous furniture, and safe grounds 20 minutes from the airport. Their dinner (if you don't mind paying $19 a person) Is fantastic local cuisine. I would stay here again if I had a morning or night flight.

Only 15 minutes from the Quito airport. 350 years old, well maintained , great charming bedrooms, modern bathrooms, lovely gardens, perfect service, historical public rooms filled with antiques and a personal family history. You couldn't ask for more. Wish we had stayed 2 nights and chilled out.

It's a very old hacienda that has a certain comfort for someone who enjoys classic architecture. There are many antiques adorning the grounds. Erika was a wonderful host, who took great pride, as she should, in this property.
Terry (4/5): overpriced - While the property was a 400 year hacienda converted to a motel/rooms the property is extremely isolated - the cab driver was not even able to locate the property without several different turn arounds and arguing with his dispatcher. We arrived late in the evening and had an early flight out and while they offered a dinner - they overcharged greatly for the room and the meal. We had an early flight so a plastic bag with a banana, box of juice and some unknown meat type of packed sandwich was our "breakfast included".

I am told the Hacienda is 400 years old. the room was beautiful and came complete with a hot water bottle for anyone with cold feet (me)! the staff is lovely and Washington was a delight!

Julio (10/5): Incredible facilities well preserved as a Hacienda - We stayed in this Hacienda Hotel because we needed to go very early to the airport. We looked in diferent sites and found this in Travelocity and booked two rooms with them. We arrived a little bit late at night 9 PM and they were expecting us. They showed the incredible facilities of a very well preserved Hacienda with lots of collectible artifacts and very nice stuff. We searched in the Internet for a Hotel near the Airport because we didn't want to go back to Quito and make the hour and a half trip, so we stayed in this hotel. The only thing I regret is not having enough time to enjoy the facilites because we leave the Hotel at about 4:00 AM for a very early flight back home. They even prepared breakfast for us at that time! Excellent attention and very nice and clean rooms.

Don (8/5): Authentic hacienda only 20 minutes from airport - I found the Su Merced to be enchanting. When my taxi pulled into the drive I was met at the taxi by a hotel manager who addressed me by name and escorted my to my room. I was asked what I would like for diner and told that it would be ready in the dining room in 30 minutes. Internet is available in the main lobby area and I found that it worked well. The two foot thick walls of the hacienda limit the distance of the WiFi to the lobby area. The decor of the room made me feel like I was indeed in a charming, 400 year old hacienda. The view of Quito from the patio garden was stunning. I only wish I had booked for two day (or more) so I could better explore the area. After dinner I ordered a glass of wine and sat in the lobby updating emails and the such after two weeks in the Galapagos Islands. When I was done I was given a hot-water bottle - because the room I had was not temperature controlled. The hot-water bottle was warm all night. The manager ordered a 05:00 taxi for me and the owner was out to say goodby and thank me for staying at the hotel. In summary, keep in mind that this is a 400 year old hacienda; old wood doors and window shutters are not sound-proof. But it is only 20 minutes from the new International Airport (UIO) and I doubt that you can find a staff more attentive and willing to meet your needs. I haven't been anywhere where I felt more connected to Ecuador.
Judy (8/5): Delightful Bed & Breakfast - Because it is fairly close to the Quito airport, we stayed three separate times on a recent trip. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even welcomed us with umbrellas when it was raining! We arrived very late (after 10:30pm) and left early (4:30am) twice, and this was fine with the staff. Washington, the wonderful taxi driver used by this hotel, was always on time and very helpful. The hotel is a 300 year old converted hacienda with lovely spacious grounds and quaint, unique and clean rooms. The beds are comfortable but not large. The one breakfast that fit with our travel schedule was delicious and filling. In a nutshell, this is a great place to stay if you would like to get a taste of Ecuadorian life and an introduction to the village culture of Ecuador. We really enjoyed it because we liked its warm, homey feeling. On the other hand, if you prefer standard hotels with lobbies, cookie cutter decor, and glossy tiled bathtubs just down the street from bustling restaurants and nightlife, this hotel is not for you.

Kathy (8/5): one night lay-over stay - I booked this hotel because it was said to be close to the new Quito airport. It was about a 20min taxi ride at 1AM in the morning, and involved some back street-cobblestone driving. It was a bit hard for the driver to fine but we made it. They have quaint, single rooms (behind gated wall). The room was clean, with minimal antique décor, but comfortable. They did provide a nice breakfast and provided a driver ($15) back to the airport the next morning. His name was Washington and we made arrangements for him to drive us around Quito on our return visit from Guayaquil and Salinas. Even though we only stayed one night, it was a good place to use for a stop over.

Had a 8 hour layover, and owner picked me up at airport at 11 PM- and took me back at 4 AM or so. I would have been happy to stay here longer. I felt very welcome here. Recommend having hotel pick you up as getting there is so confusing. It is easily 20 minutes from airport, and I don't know how much farther to town. Also, Ecuador uses American currency, so no need to get cash at the airport f you're coming from US.

Louise (8/5): Small, quaint hotel 20 minutes from airport - I only stayed here for one night, before flying to Galapagos the next morning. Proximity to the airport was a must (central Quito can be a 90 minute drive away), and there is very little choice in the area. The Su Merced was an attractive, rustic single floor B&B with lovely walled gardens that made me wish I could see more of the place. The staff were delightfully friendly and helpful at antisocial hours, and arranged a taxi pick-up for me at the airport, with return for my early flight the next morning ($15 each way). The room was simple, but charming and colourful; the bed was comfortable. I had to leave before breakfast the next morning, so I can't comment on the food.
Robert (8/5): Hosteria Su Merced - Nice room. Very clean. No locks just a latch but room was in a garden area with high walls surrounding it so it was secure. Good informal bed and breakfast type setting for breakast. Beautiul spanish style decor. Good food and service. Location seem alittle remote but I only stayed 1 night so all I knew was we were about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport.
Verified traveler (8/5): OK - I arrived late (10:30 pm) and left again for airport at 5 a.m. Thus I did not see the grounds as there is no outside lighting. One problem with booking via expedia was that the hotel did not know the time of my arrival and we had challenges getting staff to hear us and come to open the entry gate. The room was typical of an older hostel but has been it appears recently developed. There a=was a large private bathroom with space and was well lit and very clean tho without anyplace except right beside the shower to hang anything - no closet or hangers or... The beds were clean and comfortable. They had been changed and everything was fresh tho the room had the odor of a room unused for long period of time. The cost of $110 per night added to the transport set by government at $15 each way to connect to the airport made the stay somewhat more costly and almost worth travelling into Quito. My guess: For this price the hostel should pick up and return their guests to the airport for free. they should have at least a motion activated light for getting around outside and although once booked i had emailed the hostel directly asking for them to pick me up I received no response and they had not checked their email for my previous day email re assistance and time of arrival. Restful, clean and quiet. Spacious compared to other hostels locally but also much more costly. Not worth the 160 cost but twas a clean facility probably beautifully restored - the main hacienda...
Toni (10/5): For history buffs and romantics - Setting is an old hacienda set in a beautiful garden. The rooms feature antiques and hand painted sheets. The gardens are delightful and the small staff was attentive and made us feel at home. We stayed there during a long layover in Quito.
Verified traveler (8/5): - Very accommodating staff. Very clean rooms and close to Quito Airport (about 20 minutes). Make sure you get Washington for a driver. Quaint 300 year old farm originally.

Verified traveler (10/5): nice stay, lovely meal, easy to airport - this hotel was very nice, clean, a lovely meal. We stayed there to be closer to the airport, but it was a nice experience. WIFI only worked in common area, be advised. No TV, but that wasn't really important to us anyway.
sks (2/5): The hotel was beautiful, hot water, nice staff. - The phone number listed on my confirmation was not the valid # and neither was the address it just says the street name and not Oe3 which is the number. Our cab got lost drove us around for two hours with no way to contact the hotel. Once we arrived we received no discount or free transportation even though the delays of not being able to contact them meant that we only stayed 3 hours wrote having to return to the hotel. Also the website says $10 round trip airport transportation is provide but no it is $15 one way! Which is outrageous seeing as this place is supposed to be 15-20 mins from the airport and an 1 1/2 hour cab to Quito costs less than 25$. I would have greatly appreciated some kind of remorse or discount for all our trouble but they did not seem to care and only told me how easy it should have been to get there. Most expensive 3 hour stay ever! Would not recommend!
Professor (10/5): Very nice 300 year old Hacienda near the airport - This is a beautiful, old hacienda that is a 10 min taxi ride from the airport. It is quiet and has beautiful fenced grounds. The room was very comfortable with a large claw-foot bathtub and antique furniture. The host was very gracious and helpful arranging a taxi to pick me up literally at my doorstep at 4:45am. I did not realize that they also serve dinner which was outstanding: sea bass with vegetables and rice and some red wine from Chile. Dinner was served to different groups of guests in different rooms of the hacienda, I think the room I was served in was the original dining room and was very elegant. Dinner was extra but quite affordable.
Angela (10/5): Hotel close to the airport in Quito - You remember the Hosteria Su Merced you booked for us after Bellavista ......well it was a 400 year old hacienda run by the family.....the most beautiful old furniture ,the house has the most beautiful gardens and space around it...a rare thing in Quito.....and the 3 course meal at night for only $15.So thanks for that.It was a wonderful choice and so close to the airport.
Deb Goldstein (10/5): Oasis at Hosteria Su Merced - Pablo made our one night at Su Merced feel like we where visiting old friends, dinner was wonderful. It is a perfect oasis with old world charm, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
Ecuador traveler (2/5): - I booked a night at Hosteria SuMerced via Hotels.com. My flight was to arrive at midnight so after booking I attempted to verify with the hotel that they would hold my room. Also I attempted to find out how to arrange transportation from airport to hotel. Hotels.Com customer service was of no help. They referred me to the hotel's contact information on their website. I emailed the hotel twice and received no response but it was too late to cancel (per Hotels.com) So I took a taxi from the airport to Hosteria Su Merced. The area was undeveloped, the hotel was poorly signed, the address on booking email was very unclear, when the taxi driver finally located the hotel the front gate was shut. After 5 minutes of ringing and knocking the gate opened electronically and we drove into the compound but there were no lights on, no office visible, and no one came out to greet me. The taxi driver returned me to the vicinity of the airport to a miserable little hosteria.
Raymond (10/5): Lovely last night in Ecuador - We dropped off our car a day early and the driver picked us up at the airport. Then we spent an afternoon at the hotel, walking the garden and laying in the hammock. We had a chicken supper and chatted to other guest, then at 3am, right on time we were driven back to the airport to catch our flight home.
Robin (10/5): Beautiful hidden villa near Quito airport - Hotel Su Merced is a wonderful find, but is very hard to find! Watch the road carefully once you enter Puemba so you do not miss the sign. The owner will happily meet you at the airport if needed, and will take you back there no matter the time. The bedrooms are eclectic, the dining rooms stately, the staff friendly, and the food divine! I would stay there again!
Marty (10/5): Quaint renovated old hacienda near the airport - This is a beautiful little hotel, in a renovated 300+ year old hacienda. The photos online don't do it justice- there's a quaint courtyard with a beautiful entry, an old homey-feeling mansion, and some great halls and facilities in the adjacent buildings. Although it's a little tricky to find (Ecuador is notorious for lack of street signs), we had no problems finding it and it's only about 15 minutes from the airport. The rooms were comfy with great water pressure and the breakfast was great. Super friendly staff as well. Highly recommended.
Dena (10/5): Airport proximity & so much more - I selected Su Merced primarily due to airport proximity and availability of late-night transportation from the airport. I was initially impressed with the timely and professional communication with staff as I made arrangements for our visit from home. When we arrived, we realized we had struck gold, and were staying in a little paradise! The 300 year old colonial home was breathtaking - part museum, part hotel, and entirely relaxing and comfortable. The room was clean and the grounds were beautifully and impeccably maintained; but it was the kind and attentive help from the husband-and-wife team who help maintain the property that really gave Su Merced it's charm. Rafael and Elizabeth were available for our every need and then some! We regretted we had only arranged to stay one night at this beautiful retreat before traveling onto our next destination!
Trent (4/5): Nice, but they shook me down for cash! - The place was nice and they were very accommodating (picked me up from airport) until it came time to settle my bill. They told me that my credit card was denied, as the clerk fumbled with the machine and obviously didn't know how to operate it. The owner did nothing but swipe his card to prove that machine worked. In the end, I had to fork out some of the limited cash I had for this trip. For the duration of my trip I had ZERO problems with my credit card (yes, I had set up travel alerts prior to embarking). I believe this was a shakedown just to get cash and not have to report the sale to the local government. I was later told this is a common practice. This totally rubbed me the wrong way as I started off my trip wondering if I would be able to use my credit card in Ecuador at all and until I found out otherwise, was worried about running out of cash. Booo!

Nothing is too much trouble for Pablo, the friendly proprietor, and his chef turns out very attractive evening meals and breakfasts. This is an older property but is well maintained and, for us, has an undeniable charm. The place is very clean and offers wi-fi in the main house. We stayed twice for one night a week apart and it was a great reassurance the second time to know what to expect. Recommended.

Verified traveler (10/5): great hotel 20 mins from new Quito airport - A wonderful hotel only 20 mins from the new Quito hotel. Lots of antiques, wonderful host, great rooms and quiet. They will also provide transfer to/from the airport.
CMM (8/5): Could not be more welcoming - Su Merced is a charming hacienda with exceedingly friendly, accommodating staff. Very close to Quito airport which is why we chose it. I highly recommend it, however, very difficult to find - save its location on your GPS or print a map - you will need it, even with veteran tour guides or local taxis.
Verified traveler (10/5): Peaceful place near airport - Lovely place to relax. Gracious hosts. Beautiful rooms. Hammock out back. Game room to pass the time. I think this would be an excellent place for a group to collect on arrival in country, before taking off on adventures the following day.
mona (10/5): GREAT SERVICE - the owner was fantastic. He gave us tips around the city and even drove us to a local mall so we could have dinner when we arrived to the hotel late on a sunday night. the hotel is beautiful. Great stay. Would definately go back.
