- 77mimad (10/5): Beach suites w great restaurant - This is a more American style place as in the rooms are large suites, w massive balconies. We stayed ocean side where the pool and pizza shop are. Across the road is the upscale restaurant, fountain, desk, & spa. Both sides have a dock and bar. They will help you book day tours and gave us a ride to the airport. Tons of places to take photos, lovely night lighting. You can get a day pass if you dont stay on the property. We went back to the restaurant this April for the amazing mole chicken and great sunset.

- Jose (7/5): - This is our family's go to resort in Placencia. We like the place, has good food and decent prices. The A/C in one of the bedrooms was not cooling. We asked the maintenance to come and fix it twice but it was never resolved. One of the toilets was also not flushing properly and the issue was also not resolved. At checkout we informed the front desk that it had not been resolved and no solutions were given E.g. a discount, or complimentary meal or even an apology. Just a little sympathetic aww. It was a bit disappointing to have that experience.

- Carlindo (10/5): A wonderful relaxing place. - Beautiful setting, gorgeous views of the ocean, birds and dolphins, friendly staff, clean, spacious and well-furnished rooms. Very comfortable beds, rooms with full kitchens, and daily house-keeping. Good restaurants on site and a spa overlooking the lagoon. We enjoyed the resort so much, we found it hard to leave for excursions! In all of Placencia, not just Umaya, there are tiny biting sand flies. Some of us got bitten a lot on our first day, then we avoided the sand and kept up with insect repellant. Natural essential oil-based sprays meant for no-see-ums worked well.

- garrettb567 (10/5): Umaya is my resort! Would come back! - Umaya is MY resort! My gosh what an amazing experience! Great service, great shuttle rides and great hospitality! The view and the beach was great! The massages (get the deep tissue) was to die for! Marcella was a great masseuse and I would recommend her services in a heartbeat! Would recommend 10/10! Such a professional! Plus eat at the restaurant one night, their goat is really good!
- JuanM8597 (2/5): Nice views, staff service makes you run away - We went to this hotel on Monday, and the views and and the location are really nice, but that’s it, the service in the hotel is less than nothing, the staff is rude, we asked for drinks as soon as we got there and the answer we got was “we are closing we can’t sell you anything” then at dinner the next day we asked for drinks and they said only water and nothing else because they were closing soon, and a friend of ours had a wine bottle and asked if we could bring it because they didn’t have drink and they were going to charge us for it, nice place but staffs need urgent attention, the rooms have bats and don’t let you sleep at night, the room cards sometimes won’t work and guess what the staff is not very polite to help you, terrible experience

- ProfPayne (10/5): The "White Lotus" of Belize - Easily one of the best stays we have ever had, on any of our travels. We simply can't believe the quality, scenery, and SPACE for the price. Our family fit perfectly here, and we never wanted to leave. Most of the condos (all units on the property are condos with full kitchens, not hotel rooms) are 2 bedrooms, though they also have at least one 1-bedroom unit and a few 3-bedroom units. Our unit, which is over 1,000 sq ft, had a king bed in the main bedroom and two queens in the second bedroom. Umaya Resort is spread out on both sides of the peninsula's narrowest point. This means that it takes literally 1 minute (2 if you're loafing) to get from the lagoon side to the beach side, or vice versa. Our 8-year-old runs back and forth to fish off the dock in the lagoon and off the beach pier in the Caribbean Sea. We let him do this because it's that safe. We stayed on the lagoon side because it's totally peaceful and quiet, and the sunset views over the islands and Maya mountains can't be beat. We spent our days swimming in the ocean and in the giant pool (the biggest/longest in Belize), walking Maya beach, and hanging out on our GIANT balcony (all rooms have them). The property is close to Placencia town, and Umaya runs two shuttles there daily if you don't want to rent a car (though we did because we wanted to explore the area). Every person who works at the resort is warm, kind, and friendly. Honestly, if this isn't paradise, I don't know what is. We can't say enough good things about Umaya. We already have plans to come back this summer! The price is insanely reasonable for all you get. Amazing value for the money in an increasingly expensive area. Can't wait to return!

- seapink12 (10/5): Attractive beach/lagoon hotel - Location - On Maya Beach, 2 1/2 hours from Belize airport. Just outside Maya Village 6 miles from Placencia. Hotel Building - Low rise hotel. split into two by road. One part overlooking sea with pizza place & beach bar. The other part overlooking the lagoon with restaurant. Can stay and eat in both sides. Landscaped gardens by lagoon and lovely long beach for walks. Ample loungers round pool & beach. Room - Spacious & light 2 bed lagoon room. Comfy & clean. Kitchen/lounge area great too. Noise insulation though was an issue. Food - All tasty & well presented. Great choices for breakfast. Disappointed that lunch & dinner menu were the same with no specials and extremely limited options. As by the sea it was a shame that there only fish mains were octopus/prawns. Restaurant had very pretty decor & outlook however during inclement & very windy weather the doors couldn’t shut leading to freezing guests & food. They said door was broken & couldn’t sort. Staff - All very welcoming although service slow everywhere especially at beach to use the kayak/paddle board equipment.

I would definitely come back! - Beautiful, clean and many staff were excellent with customer service and timing. Good location! Some staff at restaurant and beach were not around or not as attentive. And I was locked out of my room for a bit cause their battery on the room lock died.
- Sharon (8/5): Beautiful resort with great staff! - The resort is beautiful, we were in a villa on the beach, a pool very close. Full kitchen, washer dryer, parking space, wifi, great stay! The staff was excellent, we had a small child and one lady was so kind and patient with him, it was much appreciated. The dinners were a bit pricey, its a bit far from other dining spits so best to have a car.

- 856johannam (10/5): Placencia resort - Sand, large pool, ocean beach with paddle boards and kayaks, huge suites with all the amenities, and very friendly staff: it was a five-star experience.
- Kathy (6/5): - I booked an ocean view room and the room I was initially given was a lagoon view. I had to show them my reservation to prove that I was supposed to be in an ocean view room. They did give me an ocean view room the next day. The refrigerator in the kitchen had water and ice in the door but it didn’t work because it was hooked up. The jet tub wasn’t working so basically just a bathtub. The dock was great for getting in the water but impossible to get out of the water! Plus the dock was not in very good condition. The toilet plugged up (not my fault) and the maintenance guy said he needed to turn on a pump or something but it did work fine afterwards. Bed was not very comfortable. I did like the patio. The Security Guards were very friendly and made regular rounds on the property.

- Olivia (10/5): - Our family stayed on the beach side, in one of the 3 bedroom villas. It was perfect for our family of six. We enjoyed the easy direct beach access, sitting in the hammocks on our porch, and swimming at the two pools. Sargassum is a problem along the entire peninsula, so we didn't swim much in the beach. When we did swim at the beach, the property had paddleboards and kayaks that we got to use. The property overall felt like a tropical oasis. The ambiance at the Laguna restaurant was romantic and family friendly. You'll definitely need a car if you plan to go into Placencia town often. The only negative thing about the property was the main pool needs refurbishing - chipped paint and missing tiles. But I would definitely stay here again!

- Martinez (8/5): - We rented a 3 bedroom villa. It was nice and spacious for my family. You can see directly into the master bedroom from the rest of the villa. Bedroom doors should be solid. We started getting bitten by mosquitoes at check-in. The patio also had a lot of mosquitoes, and we couldn't enjoy the patio. We tried to enjoy the pool around 4pm, and we had to leave because of the mosquitoes. In less than 24 hours, my son was bitten over 50 times. Unfortunately, due to the infestation of mosquitoes, we will not return.

The down side is that it is far from the main village of placencia and they only offer two times of free transport otherwise you have to pay. Rooms were clean and spacious…we love how our room was right off the beach and pool.

- marknX3478NY (10/5): Beautiful Wedding at Umaya - We had our wedding at Umaya Resort in Placencia, and it was absolutely perfect. The location is great, and the whole weekend went off without a hitch. Roberto, the wedding coordinator, was incredible—he was with us from the early planning stages in late 2024 all the way through the day itself, making sure everything ran smoothly. All of the guests had a fantastic time, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The staff were friendly, the setting was beautiful, and the atmosphere was just right. I can highly recommend Umaya for anyone planning a destination wedding or just looking for a relaxing vacation in Belize.

We were so looking forward to staying but disappointed.

- Christine (8/5): - I liked the resort overall. The dislike was that they advertise a pool and pool bar, with a small wood fired pizza restaurant by the pool. One evening they closed the bar early around 5:00ish and were closing the pool at 7:30 due to a slower day. Our family had come back from the day excursion looking to hang out the rest of the evening to use the pool and pool bar and eat at the restaurant. One of the things I consider when booking a vacation is pool availability. It was very disappointing. I felt cheated in that I pay for those amenities, and they closed them because they felt there weren't enough people to make it available until their normal close time with no regard for the visitors interested in the pool, pool bar and pizza restaurant.

Luckily we only stayed one night and were able to eat at another resort. Guests should’ve been informed about the planned power outage.

- vejeaa (4/5): Overpriced and not worth it. - The resort is insanely expensive and the poor is not worth the inflated prices. The resort failed to inquire about any allergy issues before preparing food, which was bland to say the least. Very far from the local stores and restaurants. Staff served us the same snack three days in a row and worst of all we couldn’t use their bicycles after 5 p.m., as if we didn’t have all our luggage inside the room. Would not recommend to any tourist and even more so locals. Save your time and money and stay somewhere else.

Even helping arange my hopper flight! Ryan went out of his way to sort a day tour for me last minute and then came and met with me poolside to explain it all! Everyone from the workers to the kitchen staff, servers, cleaners to the pool people truly care and take pride in the resort and their guests. It was so clean and the suite was spacious! A very laid back atmosphere and great amenities! Location was ideal! Such a great value for all I received! I’ve had such an amazing experience. I can’t wait to go back. I Highly recommend if you want a place to go and recharge, enjoy some sun, outdoor activities,shopping pool and more. The food was also incredible. Eating at this resort was more than a meal. It was an experience. This is a hidden gem in Belize!

- RICHARD (8/5): - I stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The resort is a distance from placencia town so if you wanna save money on transportation to town you have to book the free shuttle service that the hotel runs daily. The hours for this service are 10am & 2:30pm. Meals at Umaya in my opinion are overpriced and the chef needs to be replaced as the food is not very good and the portions are way too small for what you pay for. Overall, if you want peace & quiet and good relaxation then definitely choose Umaya.
- Friesen (9/5): Superb - Loved the pools, and view. Also loved the privacy and friendly staff. And the large kitchen was super handy. The AC units all smashed together made so that our AC was not cold even in the night as we got the hot air from all the units around it.
- Wendy (8/5): MY RESERVATION WAS FOR 1 ROOM, NOT 2. - Our stay was highly influenced by the resort charging for 2 rooms instead of 1. I RESERVED ONE ROOM. If this is resolved then the review would be very different. The resort and staff are very good, the restaurant is convenient and very good. The room was wonderful.
