David (7/5): A good place to stay for a night or two. - The room was dated and basic, but impeccably clean. Also, we loved the beautiful barn swallows that nested around the hotel. The refrigerator had some rusty spots on the exterior and the room was very basic, but everything was clean, and worked.
Sonja (7/5): - Location The stove didn't work, the strip on the floor between kitchen floor and carpet was not attached and kept tripping on it. The trim on around the floor was peeling. The place is in need of serious maintenance.

Angela (10/5): Good, again would stay for a week without hesitating. Overall very good. - Rooms were spacious, clean, so serene! Comes with a nice kitchenette, stocked. Closet door mirrored. It actually has a pantry. These could actually be comparable to vacation condos. It’s in the middle of a field, not busy. I actually would stay there a week. Price was reasonable. A few maintenance and housekeeping issues. Mostly minor things. It appeared someone cooked and threw a skillet or grease into the fridge side. I didn’t cook but tried to scrub it with the kitchen sponge. It also needed an over cleaning. Maybe a steaming treatment for both. I didn’t cook but noticed it after the first day. Also post toppers outside missing. One soft spot on second floor decking opposite from office. No breakfast BUT McDonalds and Hardee’s are close by as is Food Lion and Dollar Tree. Staff weren’t there to inform so listing it here. (We left early and used the drop box for the key…) But overall was very pleased.
Angela (10/5): Love it!!! - Quiet, either newer or relatively new renovation. Good views. No problem finding it. Pretty nice! Kitchenette could belong in a lot of houses. It’s only missing a dishwasher for that purpose. Could definitely live in a space this large. Has GFCI outlets, a microwave, some included kitchen wares to use. Stove oven and apartment sized fridge. Really comfortable heat/air system. Location is right on the Lankford HWY/US 13. the room could fit one or two more beds. Very generous homey size. The bathtub is a step up. It wasn’t bad but that and the stairs no elevator would be treacherous for someone who is older and or someone with children. Would definitely want a first floor room in those instances. The decking is very pretty and it feels like a southern front porch.

Bernard (2/5): It sucked!!!!!! - Location only. This place was horrible. No heat. Unit was not working at all. The whole unit was dirty. Flooring needs to be replaced. Mattresses need replacement. Refrigerator. toaster, coffee pot. utensils. Just about everything needs to be replaced. Towels, face cloths are very old and yellow. Cable TV was not working as well. Unbelievable! This place should be condemned and by right I should be reimbursed for my stay. If you don’t believe what I’m saying in my review, please visit and stay the night. You will see this is no BS!

We would stay here again. - It was clean and we could only book 2 queen beds but when we got there noticed hardly any cars so we switched to 1 king bed. Would have liked to switch to ground level as no elevator. No one was in the office to contact for extra things such as washcloths and extra soap to shower. This seemed odd no availabilty to anyone on site. Also our t.v. remote needed new batteries. Saw other reviews how the main person wasn't very welcoming. True. The dog was very friendly though.

Sarah (4/5): - This place is very run down. Pots outside each door were full of cigarette butts, filthy carpet, window didn’t lock, no security lock on the door, blinds broken to list a few things. Kitchen very poorly appointed. Looked like they hit a few garage sales. There were only 3 spoons and decorative bowls for cereal bowls. Gnats all in the place also. I had to ask for basics like dish soap because they require you wash your own dishes.

Richard (8/5): Most affordable room with full kitchen in area - This offered the most affordable full kitchen stay in the area. The needs were comfortable the room was clean and the staff was friendly. I would stay here again. That being said, the full kitchen offered a full sized stove with oven/broiler, sink and refrigerator with top freezer. However u works recommend you bring your own cooking utensils. There were no bowls of any kind, the sauce pan would have been rejected as a donation at Goodwill, it was so scratched and gouged as to make the not stick surface unusable. The baking sheet was severely warped. When i went to the office to turn in a dinner plate i found broken when i did a quick inspection upon arrival, staff said they didn't keep an inventory of what was in each room and they didn't have replacements because previous visitors often took the good did with them.

Would never stay here again or recommend.

Vanessa (2/5): Broken furniture and not clean - I travel with a dog, so I’m not a super picky hotel person, but I left here early. The door didn’t latch securely, and I ended up pushing the chair against the door and my suitcase against the door. Everything felt somewhat sticky, so much so that I wiped down the nightstand, counter, and table. I pulled the bedspreads immediately, which I don’t normally do. The shower curtain looked gross, so I skipped showering. The nightstand was missing a leg…well, technically it was under the nightstand, so not missing but not attached. Then the bed collapsed when my dog stood on it. He’s not that big of a dog, and he wasn’t even jumping. He was just lying down and stood up and it collapsed. The lady at the front desk was pretty apathetic and said there were no other rooms. It was a busy season, so I couldn’t find any other place to stay. Luckily, it was a two bed room, so I didn’t have to sleep on the collapsed bed. The one positive note is that the gentleman at the desk in the morning agreed to let me cancel my remaining nights, but it looks like they double charged me for the pet fee!

Our AC unit had a bad leak, and there was a towel on the floor to catch the water.. There was rust on the appliances. And heavy water condensation on the counters and table. Water kept pooling up in the refrigerator from somewhere, and everything got soaked.needs some maintenance. But would come back again.Door doesn't close or it doesn't fit properly.

Jessica (8/5): - Stayed here for the evening with my kids and needed a dog friendly hotel. Out of all the hotels this had the smallest pet fee of only $25! When most hotels are charging $75. the kitchen was a huge plus for me that way i could stay in and cook without having to spend extra money or worry about leaving the dogs unattended. If your traveling with kids just know there are no amenities to keep the kids occupied , like a pool etc. But it was quick overnight stop after a long days drive and was perfect for our situation.

Rebooked after finding a hotel to stay in for 2 days until it was a open spot and he assured me that the room was pet friendly but once we arrived again I was advised that the room was also not friendly. Refused to give a full refund.

Smell in the Lobby We’ve stayed here multiple times, and unfortunately, the unpleasant odor in reception area continues to be an issue. This isn’t the first time I’ve raised the concern, and I know others have mentioned it as well. Obviously it has not stopped us from returning (yet), but the smell is very off-putting—even offensive. It’s surprising that this hasn’t been addressed, especially considering the clear effort made to keep the rooms clean. Door Security There was no slide bolt or chain lock on the door, and the strike plate on the door jamb was completely missing. While the door did latch and appeared locked, it seems vulnerable—someone with a credit card or similar tool could likely bypass it easily. One bed was very comfy; the other bed was squisshy and squeaky (should be replaced)
Kevin (4/5): Needs work.... - Location Stove top only worked on one eye. Oven was extremely dirty. Air conditioner was very loud and distracted sleeping. Poor water pressure in shower and kitchen. Warm, not hot, water. No cooking or eating utensils for a kitchenette unit. Handrails and steps covered in bird crap.
Kendra (6/5): - This is a perfect stop for us as we drive from New York to OBX, but this year the flies were pretty bad. We spent a good portion of time trying to kill the ones that got into the room. The room is a great size, and having a full kitchen is nice. The AC was great, and beds were comfortable.

Stacey (1/5): The worst experience EVER! - Nothing!! The manager Doug had a nasty attitude and was unwilling to work with me on anything. And as soon as you walked into the check-in area it smelled horrible, like DEAD CATS!!
Karen (6/5): Good location - Five miles from downtown Cape Charles, convenient location. Room clean but no housekeeping one of three days. Says has full kitchen. Refrigerator rusted and smells like fish. Only one drinking glass. No sharp knife or pans.
Audrey (4/5): If you like sleeping, eating, showering and watchi - The price was raised because of the 4th July. That's fine, but the mandatory charge for 1 night to book the reservation was another issue. Then not being able to pay balance the day of check in was crazy. Had to pay 5 days before check in or threatened to cancel our reservation with no refund of 1st night. CRAZY!
Ronald (8/5): all in all, we liked the place and the Stingray restaurant nearby is great! - We were a last-minute booking guest; arriving later than the office operating hours due to a traffic issue and the staff was more than accommodating with our late arrival by providing a location for us to pick up our room info and key. a few lower-level guests were loud, and one group were openly smoking dope on the parking lot. Not having an elevator was a minor inconvenience, but if we stay again, we will request a lower-level room.
Bruce (4/5): - Arrived at 3pm for check in. Was told rooms aren't ready it'll be about 3:30pm from the front desk guy who seemed to have an attitude. We rented 4 rooms, not a single room is ready. We waited in the car until 3:30pm, still not ready. Didn't get a room until 4pm. Rooms are big however the door locks on 2 of the rooms are sketchy, the doors are loose when closed and door knobs feel like they are broken. Location is ideal and rooms are large but sadly it is badly managed.

Rita (9/5): Superb - Price and location were what we liked. Room was spacious. Birds built a nest on outside light fixtures and were aggressive. No ice at ice machine when we were there.

Bradley (9/5): Good motel, clean but overpriced - Close to Wise point boat ramp. Lots of parking, large clean rooms. Needs swimming pool and Tiki Bar.
Ryan (8/5): - It was great. I needed a clean bed, working shower, and good A/C. I got all three and was very happy.

Tina (9/5): Great hotel in a nice location. - This room was clean, location was quiet. There’s a crock pot in the place. It was really nice. I do wish the rates were a bit more flexible, perhaps for smaller rooms, etc. close to $180 with taxes and fees was a bit out of my budget for this trip.
Mary (8/5): Very good - Large clean suite. Quiet and restful We went to check in at 2:45 and were told that the sheets still had 1/2 hour in the dryer. We were given a key to the room. We sat outside and watched the room door and waited for someone to come to get the room ready. 1 hour later we checked in the room and all was fine. So no one ever came in with the sheets the room was ready all along. We were irritated. We had driven a long way and just wanted to relax.

Margery (10/5): Clean, comfortable & good value. Good location. - I've stayed at Shore Stay a few times and I'm never disappointed! Clean room, comfortable bed and spacious. Love having the kitchenette! Ice machine wasn't working.
