- 763jilld (10/5): Very private with great star gazing - We stayed in the Arabella Studio off the main property. Well stocked kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom and nice living area. Even a piano! WiFi worked well as the cell service is limited. Front yard is the perfect place for star gazing and you can’t miss the stars here! Highly recommend.

- dkfox55 (10/5): Clean and comfortable - This is a small quaint place to stay. Very close to town. Easy drives to McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis Historic Site, Davis Mountain State Park, and Balmorhea State Park. Alpine and Marfa are in the 20 mile range to drive. Great 75 mile loop on Hwy 166 and 118 to enjoy the mountains starting right at the B&B. Only 6 rooms total. Very clean and well kept. There were a few things that could have been spruced up but overall cute! The host, Sid, is very friendly and helpful if needed. He and his wife live on site. Nicely decorated main room. We stayed in the king room. Large space. Bed was very comfortable. Great breakfast. Scrambled eggs, one day with cheese the other with spinach and green peppers, waffles, biscuits, yogurt, cereal, coffee, orange juice, milk. One day we had gravy with ground meat in it, the other link sausage. I would stay there again and recommend it.

- catramsey (10/5): Wonderful stay at Davis Mountain Inn - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Davis Mountain Inn. This is near Fort Davis, Texas in a beautiful part of West Texas. Our accommodations were wonderful and the host and hostess, Sid and Elena were very accommodating and wonderful. You can’t go wrong staying at this beautiful bed-and-breakfast in the mountains.
- Dallas_8 (10/5): Perfect base for our regional visit. - We loved our stay! The Inn is lovely. The highlight was our time spent relaxing on the back porch was watching the wildlife and enjoying the stars and sunsets. We saw a family of javelinas, some deer, jack rabbits, lots of birds, hummingbirds, and a few bats that came out every night. Sid and Elena, the on-site Inn Keepers were amazing. They were very friendly, helpful, and gave us some great tips. Above all, they made us feel welcome and were present yet gave us our privacy. And breakfast was yummy! We went to a Star Party at the McDonald Observatory and visited a lot of other places on the area including Alpine, Marfa, and Balmorhea State Park. All less than 30 minutes from the Inn.

- 219billg (10/5): Great place to stay - I stayed there with four friends in early May and can recommend this place highly. Everything about the house was nice: the bedrooms, the common areas (including the kitchen), the back porch. We were in the area to do some birdwatching and they even had some pretty good birds! Sid runs the place - he is not the owner - and he was extremely helpful. There was a great variety of breakfast food. Everything was spotless. I'd give it six stars if I could. I rarely leave reviews but this place deserved one.

- Paul (10/5): A Highly Enjoyable Place to Stay in Fort Davis - The room was comfortable with a terrific walk-in shower (and a jacuzzi that I didn't use); the manager, Sid, was very friendly and accommodating; the breakfast was very good; and the location near the center of town was convenient. It was also fun to see a pack of javelinas in the back yard coming up to the porch.

Breakfast was above and beyond our expectations. Everything from the top shelf bedding, deep spa tub and Sid's most gracious and friendly personality created a very special stay for my husband and I. Don't miss it!

The breakfast was terrific. The accommodations were attractive, comfortable, clean, and quiet. The property is located a very short distance out of town, and it's a great spot for star gazing.

Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with generous servings. Sid and Elena, the caretakers, were polite and helpful, offering many thoughtful suggestions of nearby attractions including great directions. We had absolutely no criticisms. Highly recommended.

- Petersuffolkuk (10/5): Comfortable and friendly place to stay - We stayed at this B&B for one night while making a round trip from Houston to Big Bend NP. We took a large loop route to and from Big Bend which is why we ended up staying in Fort Davis. The house is a grand county sort of place with porches back and front and set in a large plot of land with open views of the countryside and mountains. We were greeted by the owners who were super friendly and helpful. There were hot drinks and cookies available on arrival and the hosts were happy to advise about where to eat. Our room, the lion room is on the ground floor, and is large and comfortable. I note a previous reviewer moaning about the size of their room, well maybe they should have read the room descriptions before booking, the rooms clearly vary and size is dependent on what you want to pay! Breakfast was good, freshly cooked and tasty. This is a great place to spend time exploring the surrounding area, comfortable with plenty of space inside and out to relax if that’s what you want to do after a day out. I’d happily recommend David Mountains Inns to friends and family

The sunset and sunrise views are spectacular. Bring your coffee to the deck and enjoy. Also, this is a dark sky area, so don't forget your camera!

We were out late at the McDonald Observatory and he made a point to leave a light on for us so we could make our way home. We would stay there again for sure.

We arrived at about 11 pm after an hour of travel along dark, winding roads and could not find the inn, even with our GPS. So we called the inn, told our host the name of the street where we were and he came to get us. His friendliness and helpfulness was evident throughout our stay. The house is lovely and the grounds inviting for some peaceful quiet time.

- 462henryd (8/5): Ahhhh. Wonderful place to wind down! - Really nice/neat place and the back porch is great to relax, watch the deer, and maybe read a book and not look at the phone! The Inn keepers are wonderful and make a great breakfast! They really make you feel welcomed. Just wish there was shelf space, towel rack, exhaust fan in the bathrooms. We'll definitely be back!!

Not their fault, but Ft Davis is a pathetic little town. The best place to eat in town was a deli. The best place to eat if you’re willing to drive 10 miles, is a food truck at Chateau Wright.

- kelly (10/5): - We loved our stay at Davis Mountains Inn!! We stayed in the Sleeping Lion room two nights. It was a large bedroom with a beautiful bathroom with tub, shower and double sinks. Breakfast was fabulous both mornings! One evening we stayed out late at the observatory and the lights were left on for us welcoming us home. The next night we sat out on the back porch and watched the birds, bats and finally a star-filled sky! We will definitely stay here again the next time we’re in West Texas!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay as far as the accommodations. The room was lovely and very clean. The grounds around the house are peaceful and full of wildlife, such as many bird species and bunnies. One could sit for hours listening to the wildlife and watching the sky. The breakfast was very limited and next time we will eat in town, just to have some options. The local cell service is close to nonexistent and the wifi at the house worked only intermittently. Maybe that is good because it aided in the serenity of the place. Many restaurant options close by.

- gingerm438 (10/5): An oasis in the Desert - I love Fort Davis for the skies. That's why I go - for star parties, desert sunsets, science lectures and nature hikes. That said, Fort Davis doesn't have much to offer when it comes to hospitality. Most restaurants close after lunch, and "night life" means people go home and sleep. The Davis Mountains Inn is a solution to the Fort Davis isolation problem. This 7 bedroom oasis is a pleasant one mile walk from the Fort Davis town square, but if you'd rather stick around in your room for a bit, no problem. There's a home-cooked breakfast every day, with more options than you can eat. Afternoon snack? There's always a muffin or a pastry in the kitchen for you. Privacy? It's a bed and breakfast so . .. effectively it's a house. But this place is built out with seven individual rooms, most of which have their own private baths and outer doors. This was our second stay at the Davis Mountains Inn, and this time we were delighted to meet and come to know the innkeepers Sid and Elena. I learned about them a little more every day of our stay, through the lovely opportunity to chat over breakfast in their eat-in kitchen. We received top drawer attention, even when the inn was full. We also got tips on where to go eat and what was happening that week (it was their 4th of July celebration). It was like staying with a friend who knew the town, and knew it well. And when the inn was full? We still enjoyed a front porch, a back patio, coffee in the mornings, tea in the afternoons, satellite TV if we wanted it, and all of the Fort Davis scenery. We found that the price for our room was similar to the pricing of the Hyatt Place - which is where we stayed the week before. Not dirt-cheap, but not expensive either. It was definitely a bargain for the experience. My recommendation? Go during the week if you can. Get a room and get to know the hosts. We will definitely go back soon.
