- FRANK (2/5): - I traveled from Ghana to visit Durban only for me to get to the Albany hotel in Durban only for me to be told i cant check in until after two meanwhile I got to the hotel from the airport around 8 am I asked for a refund and they refused to refund me so I need a refund back because I didn’t even sleep there at all

The reception is deceiving cos it looks clean but joooo. From 1st floor the smell of the carpets is unbearable considering that its the breakfast place. Then the others floors n rooms are not welcoming from walls to carpets need a redo. In fact i regretted cos i wanted my family to have a great time but we did not cos i guess its mangement do not care

- Verified traveler (4/5): Terrible Experience - The reception area was ok, and the lady assisting with the check in was helpful. However, I was deeply disappointed with the rest. As we stepped off the lift, we were welcome a not so clean looking passage way leading to our room. The room looked absolutely nothing like what we saw in the photos when we made our booking. It was an old and tired looking room that we were allocated. It just looked like it desperately needed some renovation. The bathroom was worse. I will definitely be not booking here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

No water in rooms, no ice available..towels have holes in...just disgusting. I have complained just after our stay but nothing came of it....never ever again!!!

I really loved two cleaners called pinky and tamara they are funny and lovely people thy must keep up the good service at all the time big uppp guys

- Francisco (2/5): Awful experience overall - In general we had an awful experience there. The first challenge was finding the hotel itself since the street name showed on web does no longer exist. Then when we arrived there after a 12-hour drive there was not space to park our vehicle nearby the hotel as right in front of the hotel there is a busy bus stop and parking is forbidden. Therefore we had to scramble to find a space to park at a rush hour and then cross the busy roads to the hotel reception with luggage for check-in, And it was at this point that we were informed that they an arrangement with a parking provider almost a block a way but required separate payment - this was had not been communicated to us during the e-booking process. Then we found out that the breakfast was also not included in the daily rate which made me feel cheated as all that information was not explicitly shown during the e-booking. The make the matters worse, all my kids are allergic and the hotel is full of heavy and dirty carpets which caused problems to our kids throughout our stay. The bathroom's walls were covered with fungi. The curtains and blankets had stains of dirt. The Wi-fi was so week that it was completely distributional. Bu the worse was of all was when we woke-up without running water on taps and when we approached the management for help with few litters of water just to brush teeth we were repealed by a white south-African lady in a manner bordering racism.

- Dershree (2/5): - I did not feel very secure in the area . parking is away from the hotel. and this makes it an inconvenience if you have a lot of luggage. trying to get from ground floor to the room and vice versa was a mission with the lift. so small and slow. the red couch on one of the floors was blotchy and stained.

- Charisse (2/5): GREAT STAFF....TERRIABLE HOTEL - The staff at this hotel were very friendly, responsive and accommodating; however, the hotel overall is NOT suitable for any traveler who enjoys and seeks out a clean and comfortable hotel free of dust, dirt, moldy smells, clean linens and a lot of questionable quest during late night hours. I was in Durban for a festival and when locals asked were I was staying and I told them The Albany a few people on different occasions jokingly said that was like staying at a brothel. Please DO NOT stay at this hotel if you are traveling and want a safe secure and relaxing stay. I wont be visiting again. The hotel staff were very pleasant though. So it was not all bad.

- Ultra runner (6/5): Comrades Marathon 2016 - Came to run Comrades Marathon and needed a budget hotel as I have other away races this year. The Albany offered everything I needed at the price point I had to work with. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room although small, was clean and had all I needed.

- Richard (2/5): Bad hotel in a horrible state. Keep away!!! - Room was dirty. Electricity was tripping if more than 7 times we had to request room change. The new room no 65 had no workable door lock. When we leave the room the see ity had to come and open the door because the card was not working. The lock itself behind the door was dismantled indeed an eye sore. Tha bathroom was in a horrible state. This hotel should never be 3 star!!!! It should not make 1 star. I've got photos to prove.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Durban Experience - On check in said they could not locate my payment though i had phoned ealier to confirm if all was in order there was one gentleman who is always sitted by the door doing nothing, he doesnt greet nor acknowledge guests.Staff is not friendly except the housekeeping ladies,other than that stay was good.

- Katy (8/5): - Very central and walking distance to the cricket ground, but I didn't feel safe leaving the hotel after dark. I think the hotel has recently been renovated and the facilities are now really nice, but its reputation with locals doesn't seem to have caught up yet. There is nowhere nearby to eat in the evening, and no facilities to store your own food (e.g. fridge).

- Dzivhuluwani (6/5): Average 3 star hotel - The room and service was ok but the tv was not functional, spent 1 and half day with a tv with no volume even after reporting. The tarven at the side of the hotel appears to be dodgy. It does compare well with other 3 star hotels I have been to.

- Kuda (4/5): Located in the City close to Durban beaches - It is an old establishment, with many appliances having seen better days an in need of updating. The rooms are ok, but some gadgets don't work. I had to change rooms to get to one that had almost all things working. Access to their recommended parking is quite disconcerting at night. It's via an alleyway that is shadowy with some dodgy looking people hanging about. But during the day it's fine as the car park is used by the general public coming to work in the city. The staff go out of their way to help and are friendly. Housekeeping staff do all they can to keep the rooms tidy and clean, always smiling and cheerful. I had free internet access, but I only managed to use it a couple of times and then it only lasted a few minutes before things went offline. The hotel is central as well as being close to Durban beaches making it an ideal base for leisure (holiday) or business. Overall, let me just say, it did the job, provided me with a bed during my time in Durban.

- Hiro (8/5): Good budget stay in the city center - Clean room, good WiFi connection. The hotel staff was efficient. The hotel has a pool of taxis for the guests' needs. I was able to go to a good Japanese restaurant at an other hotel quicky and reasonably, escorted by the receptionist to the taxi rank.
