Guest Reviews
- John (2/5): - Awful. We got there & they did not have a room for us.
- Marcus (2/5): - My good looking Turkish partner and I booked this so called hotel for one night. We arrived shortly after booking only to be told there were no rooms available, even though keys to 5 rooms were visible. They fluffed around avoiding my request for the room for some time and I had to threaten to call the police if I wasn’t immediately refunded. Only then were we give a room that was so disgusting that I’m pretty sure it was actually a janitors closet with a bed in it. We checked out within an hour.
I’m aware this is South America but this hotel was pretty blatantly homophobic and this behaviour isn’t acceptable in 2024
- MikoNemo (2/5): Don’t stay here - It’s noisy. I don’t mind the uncomfortable bed and cold shower, I can live with that. It’s the noise coming from everywhere. The rooms are hard to find because of the structure of the building. The corridors are dark. There are better hotels for the price!
Mala conexión a internet
Buena ubicación
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Although I booked the room over a month in advance, upon arrival (exhausted after 5 days of mountain trekking) I was told that they gave my room to someone else who reserved it three months before. I was told that the reservation was made but was never confirmed by Orbitz and as such the room I booked was not available.
They showed me three rooms but none that could accomodate a couple, and it looked like a place that you rent by the hour, not the night.
We had to find another hotel last minute and spend much more than planned. It was a horrendously terrible experience and makes me very reluctant to use Orbitz again.
Additionally now have to go through a process to get my money back so I can try to offset the last minute hotel room I had to find for us.
- jmdez1 (2/5): The worst hotel in Cusco Peru - Stay Away - How can a place so awful be a part of such a beautiful city? As soon as we pulled up outside and looked at the dirty, holey curtains hanging like rags behind the stinking glass of the rotting windows we should have turned and run. The receptionist was very slow and she was making private mobile phone calls to verify with owner the price given by email on my reservation. They don’t have a computer system for reservations. She asked me to país the full amount in cash, if we wanted to use our credit card she said we have to pay 15% more. We pay cash and she didn’t want to give a receipt, after complaining and she has to call owner by “cell” they wrote a note with the amount paid.
The room was tiny and stank, as did the rest of the building. It was a combination of cats, mould, rot, damp, the local petting farm and a pair of Zoo Keepers’ wellies. The bathroom smells like sewer and no hot water. We didn’t take a shower and Cusco is cold.
Our bed was horrible! Like a rock and nasty, the sheets were old and had holes. We couldn’t sleep so we had to take Tylenol PM. No heater, room was freezing, windows are old so the cold air goes inside of the room all the time. Their dog was barking all night long....
We went out early and stayed out as late as we could manage. Next morning we were up and out, didn’t have breakfast as we saw the state of the kitchen, dirty and nasty. We packed and leave, we asked for our money back at 11:00 a.m. and it took many “cell private calls” with the owner and they decided to refund 2 nights out of 4 nights, I complained to the receptionist that the service and the hotel is horrible, and we only stayed 1 night, I said it’s illegal for the hotel to charge 2 nights when you only stay 1 night, she said the owner wants to refunded us 2 nights. We left and we will never come back to that hotel. Stay away and run if you can from the ANDEAN DREAMS.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - La habitacion no me gusto.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Friendly staff. The rooms doesnt look like the pictures so I was disappointed by that. :(
- DanielaCFranca (4/5): Room offered was nothing like the room we booked - It was hard getting to the room we booked, like the pictures advertised. We had visited the hotel in Cusco about a week before the check-in, we were showed a bedroom with big windows and spacious bathroom and decided to make the reservation but, upon arrival we were taken to a terrible bedroom, no windows, a bad mouldy smell and very small bathroom (shower on top of the toilet, no windows, etc). After MUCH arguing (we had to walk down stairs to the reception 3 times, and the first 2 times the receptionist told us there was no other rooms available - LIE), we were then upgraded to a room in the top floor, very bright and spacious, extra beds etc (unfortunately the shower only had boiling water, we had to shower with the help of a cup..). The morning after, very early we were woken up to be told that we were going to be transferred to the original room we were shown when we visited the hotel, which is similar to the pictures shown on the web. All in all, it was a tiresome experience, which eclipsed the fact that the hotel is ok (comfy beds, good breakfast, good location, close to Plaza de Armas), and reflects our overall experience with peruvians which, is, unfortunatelly - that if they can full you, they will...
- Sebastien (10/5): Tres bien - Tres bien!
Serviable. Courtois.
- Jorge (2/5): - Hoy water from the 5 days, that I stayed the hot water was working, They tell you to call from you cellphone but was no signal. Them tell you that they give a clean towels every other day .
- Edward (8/5): - Desk staff very helpful and pleasant. They did their best with what they could do.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Mold - We had mold in our room, and I do believe I got some bad food at breakfast as I got sick after eating.
- Wanderfull88 (2/5): Extortionist! Management is horrible! - I stayed here recently for 4 days, the walls are super thin, I had to ask for the basics (towel, paper) and the worse part was my last night of my stay I had a friend come over and at 11:00pm, the manager repeatedly knocked on my door demanding my friend had to leave or I had to pay 90 s. My flight was leaving at 5am, and when I went to leave, they refused to open the door till I paid. This place is horrible!!!!Do not stay here!
- david (8/5): - En general bien.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Paper thin walls and suicide shower - I stayed for 4 nights and had to move rooms 3 times, 4 rooms total. The first room had such a tiny barrier between the room above it that you could hear every word and inward snore. The second room was ok but the shower head was electric which did not work. But at least it didn't electrocute me like another room. When I came back to the hotel I was put into a room with no working shower, so they put me in a room with the infamous Latin American suicide shower. Getting electrocuted while standing in water is not my idea of fun. The service at this hotel, however, is exceptional. I know the staff did all they could to help me be more comfortable.
Se você for fresco sugiro procurar outro hotel.
- THAIS ARTIAGA ESTEVES (10/5): Recomendo!! Superou nossas expectativas! Ótimo custo benefício. Recomendo!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed one night before my friends got in Cusco. The location is nice, room is super small but the price is good so no complaint. I didn't like the shower at all. Very little water, changing hot and cold every 10-20 seconds. I don't think I can stay longer here, but 1 or 2 nights are acceptable.
- monicapB2864WC (6/5): Worth $13.50 nothing more - I stayed here for a few nights for $13.50 USD and it is as bad as a lot of the reviews say, but the price was right. It's a great location, the staff is helpful (thought not much english spoken here), and breakfast is good. Luggage storage was convenient for when I went to Machu Picchu. But the rooms are tiny, it is super cold, very noisey, the toilet leaked water, and I got an electric shock while trying to adjust the (metal) shower head. Nevertheless, it was as cheap as I could get for a private room and I was happy for the price. When I tried to add a night the rate was 100 soles, which is about 30 dollars, so the front desk person told me to book online for the lower rate. weird. then the online rate went up to $20, and there are plenty of better places to stay for the higher rate so I moved.
- Dennise (10/5): Excelente precio y servicio! - Recomendable totalmente!
- John (8/5): Good location in Cusco - A little bit noisy, a little worn at the edges, not much character, but reasonable, good value
- Christine (6/5): A place to rest your head! - This place is no-frills. It's comfortable for a couple of nights after sightseeing and hiking. The rooms are a bit musty, you need to request your towels from the front desk, and the water may run a bit cold. The location is awesome, though--very convenient walking distance to the museums and historic sites of Cusco. Their free breakfast was also good.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel próximo do centro - Muito bom. Próximo do centro, fácil. Acesso. A equipe do hotel me recepcionou muito bem, tudo muito limpo. Vale bastante a pena.
- pawqara (4/5): Pricey, tiny, lame... - Pricey hotel that offers way less than what you pay for. I asked for a receipt and they told me they had to charge me 18% for the receipt, and then when I paid with visa, they told me they had to charge me an EXTRA 10%. I arrived very late at night after a day ride from Puerto Maldonado, so had no choice but to stay here, otherwise, I would have left in the spot. My room, 203, had the tiniest shower possible. Breakfast was lame, specially for a city with so good bread, coffee, cocoa, and cheese. Don't stay here.
- Marcio (6/5): Nice budget hotel - Located in Calle Choquechaca about three blocks away from Plaza de Armas... Stayed for two days and one day the soap wasn't refilled... The TV worked but there was no remote control... The staff was really polite and called me in the middle of the night to go on a scheduled tour to Machu Picchu... A taxi was also arranged when necessary. If the person booking a room is taller than 1.8m, it would probably be good to pay attention to the height of the doors as many of them are shorter than that...
- Elad (2/5): very disappointing - when I arrived, was told that there are no rooms, showed them the confirmation I have from hotels.com, but it didn't help. finally, after 10 minutes of discussions, they gave me a room which is not the one I ordered.
no hot water,
you can hear both noises from the street and from inside the hotel as well.
don't recommend the place...
- Erin (8/5): Andean Dreams Cusco - We booked a 3 bed room and it was great location, so close to main Plazas, markets and San Blas!
The young receptionist was amazing and so helpful!
We were on the top floor, older style building and it was great, the only thing is you can hear everything through the walls to the other rooms on this level.
Other than that it was great location, and like I said, the younger girl receptionist was so lovely!
The older receptionist that seemed in charge was telling me that she wouldn't accept a hotels.com booking- only expedia and bookings.com and wouldn't honour it
When I went back and she wasn't there, the younger girl gave us our room and it was fine.
- Sien Liang (4/5): Poor service recovery - My wife was bitten by bed bugs on the first night and the hotel insisted that they have clean linens and no one has such complaints before. They even said that her bites were due to allergy to food though we ate the same food. They initially agreed to pay for doctor fee (but later said it was a public holiday and no doctor available) or compensate us by waiving the payment, but when we check out, they just said they will not pay us anything. The senior staff who spoke English also disappeared. Am really disappointed. But they did change the room after we complained.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Beg Bugs - Stay away - Room #12 has bed bugs. Hotel staff initially offered to provide medical assistance for the bites but later went mute and plead ignorance. No compensation offered. Stay away from this hotel. Breakfast size is very small and little. Rooms on upper floors are cold.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent stay at Andean Dreams - Food served for breakfast was surprisingly adequate. Rooms were relatively clean. Shower temperature was hard to control, varying from scalding hot to ice cold.
Neighbourhood is good, close to the main square and lots of restaurants.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Confusing Service at Andean Dreams - Hotel service was very confusing. The concierge offered us 2 separate rooms upon check in and then came knocking on our doors 20 minutes later to tell us that the found us a 4 person room (our original booking) and would be moving us into it. This was not appreciated as we had just finished unpacking our belongings and now had to hastily repack to move into the room.
Food served for breakfast was surprisingly adequate. Rooms were relatively clean. Shower temperature was hard to control, varying from scalding hot to ice cold.
- danny (8/5): great cuctomer services - It is a great place to stay with little more privacy and also because the way they treat you in person. free light breakfast, when ever you needed something or ask them about market prices or a taxi. They are one of the most honest people i ever met.
Would recommend to live here again.
- P2468SZnickp (2/5): Maybe a 1 star hotel. - Hotel is old, smelly, toilet broken tried to fix but didn't work. Glass ceiling tiles above bathroom people above can see down into bathroom and bed. Very little to no english spoken at this hotel. Stay away if you want a better than a 1 star hotel.
- Alejandro (8/5): Nice Hotel Close to the Main park in Miraflores - It´s a good hotel with excellent staff and very close to the Kennedy park. Miraflores is the place you must explore in Lima others parts of the city have no comparison.
- andresilvani (2/5): Not worth it - Yes it may be cheap but this place is disgusting. The rooms are very old, the toilet is in the shower, not very safe, you can hear everything! It may be close to Plaza las Armas but to be honest a hostel would have been better! Please do not come here
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Bathroom had mildew in it, the smell of mildew was in the room as well.
- jacob (6/5): no expectations - the hotels is all about compromise - either you don't have strong enough wifi signal in your room, or there is a problem with hot water, or there is mold on the walls. we ended up staying for 5 nights and have tried 3 different rooms, all of them had some kind of a small issue, but nothing major. The hotel provides heaters which is great. some rooms have strange glass sections in the walls or in the floor which lead to the sky or even another room. the great things about the hotel were the buffet breakfast and the location - 5 min walk to plaza. another perk is free tea in the hallways. given high prices in cusco, this is a good deal but don't expect much.
- Margaret (8/5): Perfect for my needs. - Perfect for my needs. Location and value. Staying at hostels are an affordable way to travel that saves money and provides the same if not better value and service.
- GoLopez (10/5): Great service and location! Not bad at all... - Stayed for 3 nights. First of all, lets be clear. It is not a fancy hotel. I booked it because it was cheap so I was aware of what I might receive. The rooms were ok, bathrooms the same and clean. As I said, nothing fancy. My room was not cold at night and did not need a heater. The location is excellent as other reviewers pointed out and worth the stay only for that alone. The included breakfast was a small buffet of sliced fruits, cheese, hotdog, fried sweet potato, local bread, granola, fruit juicies, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, etc. If you are not satisified with that you can go to "Jack's Cafe" half a block down the same street where you can find BIG american breakfasts all day long. The staff were very friendly and helpful and suggested many good tips regarding local activities.
When you go to Cusco on a budget you are only using the hotel for sleeping, most of the day you are outside visiting the outstanding landmarks of the area.
Will definetly book them again on my next Cusco trip!
- Angie (6/5): Good location - Very good location within a 5 minute walk to the plaza. We got the last minute deal so it is an acceptable price for us for the quality of the room and services. Very friendly staff, basic rooms.
- Oskarny (2/5): Don't, please don't.. - Cold water, freezing at night... It flooded when I showered. Breakfast was sad. Carpets, from 1961. TV made this weird noise. They switched me, nice people, to a worst and colder room. I ran, I ran so far away... Don't do it.
- nomadicdancerg (2/5): Think again!! - The only good thing about this hotel is where it's located. Well only during the day because during the night watch your back. This hotel is just maybe a two or 3 minute walk from Plaza de Armas, super close.
The bad: My sister and I show up to the hotel like around 3 in the morning after our hike to machu pichu and our very delayed train (that's another story). Now I understand that the time is inconvenient but the lady, which later we found out was the owner, treated us rude as if "what the hell are you doing here at this time", wait she actually asked why we showed up at that time. Of course I didn't have to give her an explanation but did because i wanted this stupid unnecessary conversation over with so I can just get to bed.
The room: Awful, it was stinky and frigid, even with all those blankets I was freezing. They did provide us with a tiny little heater which didn't help. The bathroom was super tiny.
Breakfast was.... pretty much to sum it up we ended up going to Starbucks. Enough said.
The only polite staff was this lady in the morning I didn't get her name, (sorry)
I think instead of Andean dreams it was more like Andeans nightmare.
- ZornsLemma (4/5): Clean but a bit cold, friendly staff, poor wifi, early check in/out - a mixed impression! - I stayed here for a total of five nights (split by a trip to Machu Picchu which included a single night in Aguas Calientes), booking through booking.com and paying PEN46/night.
My first three nights I was in a single room on the first floor; when I came back from the trip that room was being painted so I was put in a twin room on the second floor (UK floor numbering).
In both rooms the wifi was extremely flaky, periodically disconnecting and reconnecting. It was just about usable even for Skype, but very frustrating at the same time.
The first room was very cold; after the second night I was given an electric heater without asking (I hadn't even thought of it as a possibility) which helped a bit. The second room was a bit better but still not overly cosy. (To be scrupulously fair, the weather wasn't always that warm and I don't know if this is a problem which other hotels might have suffered from too.)
The private bathroom in both rooms had one of those electric shower heads which heats the water on demand. I was unable to find a decent compromise between a thin trickle which rapidly became intolerably hot or a tepid drenching.
Having grumbled about all that, the rooms were clean and in fairly decent decorative order, if nothing special (but perfectly acceptable for the money). The staff were friendly and helpful, they let me leave my bag on several occasions (when I first arrived before check-in, while visiting Machu Picchu and not being allowed to take more than 5kg of luggage on the train, after I checked out before I got a bus onwards) and the reception really is 24 hours a day.
The location is pretty good, maybe a five minute walk from the Plaza de Armas and an easy walk for just about everything in town (except the bus terminals).
Check in time is from 10am, which is good, but the flip side is that checkout is at 9am, which is a bit brutal. I was coming in on an overnight bus from Arequipa and knew I'd want to get into the room ASAP, so for me this was an overall benefit, but if you're not going to be arriving that early you might be as well to pick somewhere with later check in/out times, all else being equal.
I would consider staying here again, but it wouldn't be an automatic choice - I'd certainly do a bit of research and think about trying somewhere else.
- AMumf (2/5): Stay elsewhere - Pros
Cute lobby
Friendly staff
Ten min walk to plaza de arms
Comfortable, cozy bed
Cons
No hot water
Lamp did not work
Freezing, cold building. Even staff wore winter jackets the whole time
Lost our reservation (but still got us a room after stressing us out for ten minutes)
Bathroom was no bigger than an outhouse
Door would not close to the bathroom
Window above the door to the hallway flooded light into our room all night
Hotel only had one key per room so you had to give it back In order to have room cleaned
No alarm clock
- onelastwish (6/5): Disappointing rooms but good breakfast and nice staff - I stayed in this hotel just for one night. I arrived in Cusco after 8 pm and could not find anything better or cheaper, then next day I went elsewhere.
My room was nr. 1, it was cold, and not particularly clean. The other room next to mine was empty, I went to have a look and it seemed to me it was much better than mine. Water in the shower was hot.
Staff, both at the reception and at the restaurant was very nice and helpful
- ingrid2014 (10/5): Loved it! - The staff was extremely helpful for my tourism in Cusco. I stayed for 4 nights and I had a clean bed, hot shower, free internet, cable tv, and is located about 5 minutes away from the main square. I was very pleased with the buffet breakfast and very much secured. I highly recommend this place for you to stay!
- Sheslee (2/5): Do NOT stay in room 13!! - Room had no windows so I woke up feeling the effects of altitude sickness for the entire next day... Except I've already spent 2 days in cusco and have mostly acclimatized. Beds seem clean and were comfortable enough but I just couldn't breathe... there's no heat, toilet shower dribbled and was abysmal (seemed like they converted the hot water tap into a shower).. plus it didn't drain... The TV was also about 12" wide and placed above head. We booked what seemed like a really great deal and paid $22/night... probably comparable to dorm room prices... I just got fooled into thinking this was a hotel and scored a 50% discount. On the other hand, $22 was actually pretty good for a clean bed and breakfast but anything more would be robbery. Breakfast was pretty decent with fresh juice... Booked for 2 nights and they wouldn't let us check out so we stuck it out since we had to leave at 8am the next day... They also didn't clean the rooms... Just made the beds and folded the towels...
All in all, good deal compared to backpacker options but don't expect this to be of hotel quality
- robert (2/5): garbage - hotel is located close to all but its a crappy place hot water has a mind its own either its cold all the time or its too hot when it works.my over all ratings? very very poor
- DominicF553 (10/5): Everything you could possibly need - Stayed here 5 nights both before and after our machu Picchu trip. Good location about 5 mins walk to main square. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Hot shower worked well. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast was a good spread which included cooked items and the hotel offered unlimited tea in the communal areas throughout the day free of charge. Internet was quick when it was working, but a bit temperamental. Best thing was the service, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They looked after our bags for us and even made us sandwiches when we checked out before breakfast to start our tour. Price is excellent considering what you get. Highly recommend.
