• Tim Blight (9/5): Ryokan bliss in Arima onsen! - Staying in a ryokan was on my bucket list, and this was the best value ryokan near to Kobe/Osaka (just 1 hour from either). The room was absolutely perfect, and the breakfast was divine! The water in the onsen was just heaven. It really is the full experience! The onsen is very old! It certainly works perfectly, but at first glance it might not match what you had in mind (check pictures on this site). I loved it all the same - just know what you are booking :)

• Elizabeth (6/5): - A bit grim I'm afraid, very worn, it really is time that it had an upgrade of some sort - everything about it was shabby and worn down. I'm sorry to say that but it wouldn't be fair on others if I didn't. Clean but that's about the best I can say. There is no 'spa' and no 'massage' as advertised which I established before arrival, the public bath is pretty grim. My room door didn't lock, it did from the inside but not the outside - they must know, I wasn't bothered as I consider Japan very safe and I had nothing to take. Room basic, futon and duvet, very comfortable and lovely fluffy duvet. No shower - it may be that you are expected to use the one in the public bath' but it was a hand held hose so impossible to wash my hair and hold the hose. No kettle but a flask with hot water for the powered green tea. First time I've had no kettle (first time I've had no shower!) Very central, so perfect for exploring the area - it was only one night so it was ok, I wouldn't have been happy had it been any longer. The area shuts down at 5.30 which was a bit of a surprise.

• Michelle (10/5): - This Ryokan is not fancy or modern but was perfect for what we needed. We wanted a traditional experience and a few days away from the sounds of Tokyo. Kamiobo is located in the neighbourhood of Aroma Onsen, a quiet village just outside of Kobe. Kamiobo felt like we were staying at a B&B. It was comfortable, unique and traditional. We used the Onsen every morning and night and they had no issues with our tattoos! Each morning we drank our tea in our sunroom which was a nice way to start the day. Sleeping on the floor was quite the experience but this stay will definitely help define our trip to Japan. Only negative is that Aroma Onsen is a bit of a sleepy town, restaurants close early and there are limited food and drink options after 8pm.

• rie (8/5): 喧騒を離れて一人で過ごすにはうってつけかも - 両親の供養の巡礼途中で宿泊しました。有馬は道幅が狭く、複雑で、散々迷ってようやくたどり着きました。少し古めかしいお宿でしたが、お部屋は広く清潔で、くつろげました。お風呂は、源泉に一番近く、濃厚で、一日中歩き回った疲れがすぐとれました。二日間冬日のような寒さでしたが、冷え性を忘れるくらい身体が芯から温まって快適に過ごすことができました。朝食も美味しかったです。お世話をしてくださったおばちゃんがとても親切で親しみやすかったです。 方向音痴で散々道に迷って到着が遅くなってしまい、迎えに来てくださった方をずいぶん待たせてしまい、ご迷惑をかけてしまいました。ごめんなさい。

• John (6/5): Not what I expected - For the price I expected there to be some food. I was surprised to find there was none and was disappointed with Expedia's description. Most of the overnight guests eat in their hotels and ryokans, so finding a meal is difficult. The bath water was excellent--but that is shared by all the lodges. The bathroom, on the other hand, down cold concrete steps, was simply a bare, tiled room with two tubs. The price is probably common to the area since it is so famous, but compared to all the other places I've stayed at in Japan, I did not think the value was there.
• Lee (10/5): 오래된 멋진 료칸 - 따뜻하고 좋은 료칸. 지난번에 아리마온천에 갔을땐 숙소가 셔틀로 움직여야해서 좀 불편했으나, 이 료칸은 걸어서 갈수있어 좋음. 주인장도 친절하고 욕탕은 많이 작고 아담하지만 물이 뜨끈뜨끈 아주 뜨거워서 찬물을 한참 틀어 식힌 뒤 들어감. 단점은 밤 11시가 되면 문을 잠근다는 점과 같은 시각에 온천도 중단하는 점. 나머지는 다 괜찮았음.
• Kihyun (10/5): Good Ryokan! - 한적하고 조용해서 좋았습니다. 일본 전통 료칸을 저렴하게 느낄 수 있어서 좋았습니다. 투숙객이 많았으면 자체 온천탕을 즐길 수 있었겠으나 저 혼자뿐인 관계로 그것까지는 못했습니다. 민박 같은, 수수한 정이 느껴지는 료칸이었습니다. 추천합니다.

• jennifh (10/5): Lovely, relaxing, tattoo friendly ryokan - Kamiobou is a beautiful and tranquil place to stay overnight while enjoying the hot springs baths of Arima Onsen. Unlike other some baths in Japan, they do welcome tattooed foreigners. I checked this in advance, and also arrived wearing a sleeveless shirt, just to avoid surprises. The staff were gracious, speaking some English. Signage in this ryokan is in Japanese only, although an English booklet on onsen etiquette was placed in my room. Do read the booklet, and do memorize the kanji for man and woman, to avoid wandering into the wrong bath or toilet! In the soaking area, there are two baths. The muddy "gold" bath can hold 2 people comfortably, while the clear "silver" bath could probably accommodate 4. The bath room is undecorated, just furnished with plain tiles. However the waters are heavenly. My room was continuously refreshed with hot green tea whenever I stepped out to soak. In the morning a traditional Japanese breakfast was served, and the crispy skin salmon it included was especially delicious.

Even the host could not speak english well but really polite and willing to help me. The room was clean and proper size for 2 people. It's a good room&spa to stay with my family and the breakfast was really nice. Overall good price and cozy place during my trip. I like this place so I’ll be back when I come to Kobe.

• Cheng Yi (8/5): 當年因該很有規模～如今有點敵不過新旅館的 正統日式旅館 - 很傳統的日式旅館，喜歡塌塌米的人可以體驗一下！ 飯店的地理環境很好，在溫泉老街的中央，溫泉池有點老舊，感覺是很有年代感的傳統旅館。另外有跟旅館點日式傳統早餐，很好吃價錢也很實惠。 此外，老闆人很好，雖然旅館到纜車車站沒有接駁車，可是可以請他幫忙免費接送。 唯一遺憾的事我在第二天早上起床時發現有一隻8-10公分的純黑色蜈蚣爬到我的背上，在聽到我肝腸寸斷的尖叫聲後，老闆為了表達歉意，有送一隻他們的擺飾品作為補償，也算是誠意十足啦＝‘’＝。

• Fang Ling (10/5): 溫馨舒適的日式小旅店 - 相當簡潔溫馨的家庭式旅店，老闆一家人客氣有禮。溫泉雖不像飯店那樣氣派，但小小的很有日式風味，因旅館小、住客不多，所以泡湯一點也不會壅擠。榻榻米客房很舒適，有廁所和梳洗空間，還有明亮的陽台令人覺得愉快。
