Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic spot to visit, views are just breathtaking and your hoists are so helpful and welcoming... we highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Owner had forgotten to disable bookings for the lodge while they were overseas and the lodge was unavailable. It was very last minute but thankfully we were able to organise alternative accommodation.
Matakana is a beautiful place to visit.
- Caroline (10/5): Lovely accommodation in a rural elevated setting. - We spent a relaxing couple of days at Sugar Loaf Lodge, the views from our room were stunning, rolling countryside with Omaha beach in the distance. Dianne and Rob were great hosts, friendly and helpful with advice about what to see and do in the local area. Our accommodation was spacious and very comfortable, breakfast in the sunroom with local bread and honey etc. was a nice addition as was the wine and cheese brought to our room later in the day.
- Adam (8/5): Great view! - Sugar Loaf is a pleasant place to stay with local attractions not too far away- the staff are friendly and everything was a pleasure
- Stephen (10/5): I sensed we were in for something spectacular - I sensed we were in for something spectacular as soon as I turned into the driveway.And I was not disappointed.This location is world class but at an affordable price for that special night away.
- Amy (10/5): Sugarloaf Lodge lives up to its name... - A marvellous setting, clean, comfortable room, delicious breakfast, fabulous platters and wine, wonderful and warm service.
- Gabriela (10/5): LOVELY B & B IN MATAKANA - We stayed one night in this B & B in Matakana and had a wonderful stay. As there were only two rooms which were detached from the main house it was very private. The accommodation was beautiful, clean and had a nice view towards Omaha. We dined at MMK (Matakana Market Kitchen) which was below the Cinema. The mains were lovely but wasn't too wrapped about the desert we shared as it was far too sweet in fact we didn't eat it. Anyway back to the accommodation for a blissful sleep and the breakfast was very lovely started with fresh fruit salad and bread and pastries with nice coffee. The hosts were very nice to talk to. We would definitely stay again.
- Carrie (10/5): Restful room with a view - Located a short drive from Matakana and Omaha Beach, Sugarloaf Lodge was perfect for a relaxing weekend north of Auckland. We were a little early but were welcomed none-the-less. My husband had slipped and hurt himself but DIanne was calm and professional, organising the first aid kit and making sure we were settled in with everything we needed.
- Natasha (10/5): - Very nice place and clean. Very peace full
- Muy-Cheng (10/5): Perfect for a romantic weekend away - This gorgeous B&B really exceeded our expectations. The view was breathtaking, and the atmosphere peaceful and serene. The room conditions were spectacular and the shower was simply amazing. We were staying in Matakana for a wedding and chose this B&B for its location to the wedding venue. We will definitely be back again for a relaxing weekend and getaway. 5 out of 5!
- Darren (6/5): - overall an ok stay, positives were the lovely view but had to keep curtains pulled as the room was not very private or soundproof from room next door! Would have been nice to have some snacks in the room to purchase as we hadn't brought any with us, and really missed a sink where the tea/coffee was as had to rinse our cups in the bathroom basin. Overall was ok but thought was too expensive for what we received.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved staying at Sugarloaf lodge, the breakfast was delicious, the view amazing and just an all round lovely place to stay.
- Irene (8/5): Magic Matakana - Bucolic Location. We loved the region and our host provided an excellent recommendation for dinner in addition to some local knowledge about the wineries we were interested in visiting in addition to a great little wine bar.
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic Stay! - We had a great stay at Sugarloaf Lodge. Allen and Vanessa were great hosts and were very welcoming. The accommodation was very clean and modern. The morning after our stay we had a great home cooked breakfast with wonderful fresh fruit and local produce.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A quiet, comfortable place, with a superb outlook - Our room was very comfortable, wonderfully quiet, with a magnificent rural view right out to the Gulf. We chose to picnic in our room, because it was Christmas night and everything nearby was closed. (I understand that in normal times Sugarloaf will provide dinner), enjoy a splendid sunset and slept undisturbed. In the morning our hosts cooked a very good breakfast and after a while spoiling their dogs we were on our way.
- Bridget (4/5): - Facilities: Ordinary, No plate or dish; Value: Excessive; Service: Awful, Pestered no privacy; Cleanliness: Lacking, Runs on outside of loo!;
Outside of loo and lid dirty. Bed cover needed washing. Told we could go for dinner in town after 6 when they had been in with nibbles for us!
- Monica (10/5): - Facilities: Modern, Nice ; Value: Inexpensive; Service: Good, Friendly, Courteous; Cleanliness: Spotless;
