Guest Reviews
- Hendrik (7/5): Excellent Pet friendly accomodation - Very friendly owner. We had yo re-schedule to 9pm arrival, Steven came out to greet us. Place is pet friendly at no extra cost. Location is superb, ajacent to town, easy to get dinner. Room is clean, comfortable bed. Low hot water pressure, slightly slow wifi - i was working one day and had to briefly use my own hotspot.
It is a room set up for air B&B. Does not quite feel like a get away, the owners did try their best to be out of the way - felt more like renting a room in shared accomodation.

- Mary (7/5): We enjoyed our stay but the photos on Booking.com must show the actual offer to guests. - Our hosts Steve and Meg were welcoming, friendly and helpful at all times. The location of the property is a strong point for access to the town of Margaret River. We were surprised to find that the photos shown on Booking.com related to BOTH rooms at Forest Retreat, when the only room available to us did NOT have the washing machine, nor the kitchen sink shown in the photos. Our room did not have a kitchen area recognisable as a kitchen. Instead, the wardrobe contained cutlery, crockery and food supplies and the fridge and microwave oven were both in the bedroom. There were no chests of drawers (see photos) for clothes storage during our week's stay. In reality this is not a B&B, but a self-catering bedroom with bathroom and toilet, where the hosts supply food for breakfast.
- Swift (9/5): We had a great time looking around. Friendly hosts. - Location fantastic, facilities great, experience overall great.
- Sandra (3/5): -
- Rachel (9/5): -
- Jean (10/5): You can tell that Steve loves hosting people. He is so knowledgeable and shares all his expertise with you in a very cle - The location in Margaret River was fantastic. Once we parked the car, we were able to walk to restaurants and cafés. It was also just a short trip to some amazing beaches. The covered patio was a perfect place to have charcuterie and coffee in the morning.
- Marie (4/5): Need improvement. - Quiet place. Cockroach, used jam in the fridge and minimal provisions for breakfast. For a bed & breakfast for 2 persons there were 4 bananas in a bowl for 3 days stay, 1 avocado and 6 eggs. We had to ask for a new loaf of bread, the one provided was not good. Have to call the staff at the door several times because he didn’t answer or returned back our calls.
- Linda (7/5): -
- Laerte (10/5): -
- Bethanie (10/5): A spotless room, delicious breakfast, and the kindest hosts — a perfect stay from start to finish. - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wonderful Stay!
Meg and Steve were fantastic hosts — friendly, welcoming and full of great local recommendations. Our room was spotless, breakfast was delicious, and we had everything we needed. They even chased us down after checkout when we left earrings behind, which was incredibly kind. Highly recommend!
- Stephen (7/5): Lovely owner but facilities were lacking and outside area dissapointing. The pictures did not reflect the experience for - Lovely owner did everything she could to make us comfy. Breakfast was nice with fresh bread, eggs, lovely jam etc provided regularly. We felt the ‘garden room’ was cramped, the large wooden bed frame risked knocking your legs, the wardrobe had wire hangers to store clothes, and no other space to store our clothes or cases. Owners items stored in there too. There was no kitchenette, old fridge was very noisy in the night. Nylon curtain in the shower instead of a cubicle. Outside space to sit was an old car port on the drive - not very pretty or well screened.
- Jacky (10/5): - Wonderful hosting, room had everything we needed. Great location.
- Smith (8/5): A great value stay with the facilities of very good quality - Very well fit out and quality furnishings The mattress is not good for a heavy weight person
- Jen (10/5): -
- Chris (10/5): -
- Lily (9/5): Warm & cozy stay, feels like home - Cozy & very convenient, walking distances to supermarket & town.
- Malcolm (9/5): Excellent B&B in a great location. - A number of different options were provided for our self serve breakfast which meant we could eat what we wanted when we wanted. Great location within Margaret River.
- Tn10 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Poulton (9/5): Very comfortable and welcoming. Wonderful hosts. Value for money: - Good provisions for breakfast. Very comfortable room. Excellent parking. Wonderful location. The area in front of the room where we ate breakfast and had drinks in the evening could have been cleaned up. Many leaves and dead plants around the area.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and comfortable. Good selection of breakfast options. Quick and easy walk to restaurants and shops. Host Steve was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. He provided great tips on what to see and do.
- Emily (10/5): Loved our stay - We loved our stay here! Steve met us on arrival and gave us a map of the area, he was really helpful and pointed out all the main spots to visit. He even gave recommendations of places to eat/trips to go on when we asked his opinion.
The property was clean and a great choice of breakfast options - would recommend 100%
- Judith (9/5): Loved it - Perfect for a single person with 2 labradors. Nothing really
- Ellen (10/5): Wonderful! Shall return! - Return customer! Loved the setup & the location so I had to come back, and I love that my dog can stay with me too. The location is so great for just popping into town, or going for forrest walkies. Breakfast provided, and a fridge to put frozen meals or whatever in. Lovely hosts too - make you feel right at home :)
- Dominique (10/5): Great B&B in Margaret River - The location was excellent and just far enough from the main drag to be tranquil.
The facilities were more than adequate for a four day stay with provisions for breakfast being very good quality and generous.
The owners were very welcoming, and we will be back. Nothing to comment on.
- Martin (8/5): Very happy, would definitely stay here again for a short break. - Lovely stay, Steve, Meg and little Betty made us feel very welcome. Situated a short walk from the main street in Margaret River where there was everything we needed for our stay, it was ideal. Not much! Maybe just a little more worksurface to prep food would have been good.
- Mary (9/5): Chilled couples holiday - Good location to town, pretty outside seating, clean and comfortable. Owners very friendly and helpful.
- Rory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maggie (9/5): Pleasant and feeling like home! - The owners are friendly, helpful and responsive. The quality of the breakfast ingredients is excellent. The washroom is bright and clean. I wish there is more shower space in the washroom.
- Kathryn (10/5): Excellent bed and breakfast accommodation close to town centre. Helpful hosts - Excellent accommodation close to town centre and facilities. Great hosts. Nice breakfast with good selection. Home away from home, definitely will be back.
- John (8/5): Excellent for a short stay - Quiet location near to central area of town, private garden area, secure parking, comfortable bed and good size bathroom. We were made to feel very welcome and offered sound advice about what to visit locally. The room was quite small and the catering facilities very cramped.
- Jillian (6/5): OK - the property was close to town - We were provided with good quality ingredients (including eggs) for ourselves to make our breakfast but would have to say that we expected a property advertised as a 'bed and breakfast' to let you know that it is not a true sense of bed and breakfast cooked for you. You are expected to make your own breakfast with only a small electric frying pan, no benchtop or washing up facilities. There was no sink or running water in the room which was a small bedroom only a bowl provided which did not fit in the basin in the bathroom. There is no table or chairs inside so even when it is raining, you have to eat your breakfast outside under the covered porch area. As above as felt the name was misleading.
- Natasha (8/5): Very good - Great location and lovely people
- Brian (7/5): good - location, hostsn loose the breakfast - maybe give voucher for local cafe or scrap entirely - more room
get a remote for gate - having to enter code to both open & close gate would be a pain if raining
shower hot water pressure low - difficult to set to comfortable temperature
- Sue (9/5): Wonderful hosts and a well worthwhile stay in this beautiful area. - Location was superb, very handy to amenities.
Host was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with local points of interest, providing great guidance in every aspect. Facilities for doing our own dishes very restricted.
- Jane (8/5): Would definitely stay here again. - A 10 minute walk into the centre of Margaret River so you don’t need your car and can have a drink when you go out for dinner. Plentiful eggs, cereal, bread, butter, orange juice, fruit,coffee/tea etc provided for a do it yourself breakfast. Also microwave and small electric frypan. Bed was comfortable and room and bathroom were very clean. Large towels, a big plus for us. Hosts were very personable and more than happy to help if needed. Electric gate with keypad for security of both you and your vehicle. Peaceful atmosphere. The only small thing that I think has been preciously mentioned is washing up. A bowl, detergent etc is provided but we had to use it in the bath to wash up. As I said a small inconvenience that is fine for a short stay.
- Scott (8/5): Steve and Meg were very friendly and helpful with local information and ideas to enjoy our stay. - The property was clean and comfortable with secure parking and walking distance into the Main Street.
- Andrew (8/5): Would def stay again - thanks Steve your hospitality was top notch. - The location was amazing - a short walk down the hill into Margaret River, into the forest and close proximity to the coast and wine region.
Steve greeted us on arrival even though we were much later than anticipated.
He went out of his way to make sure both we and the dogs would be comfortable.
The breakfast was also a nice touch.
- Karen (7/5): Great location and host, not a b’n’b proper but room clean and tidy - Thanks to lovely host Steve and great suggestions for our short stay. Room in great location for walking into town, but not a forest retreat as it is in a suburban street. Bit Disappointed too that ‘B and B’ meant prep your own, perhaps it should be ‘breakfast items provided’. Breakfast supplies were nice however. Overall, very good but just not as we were expecting.
- Fairlie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manfred (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (9/5): Great location and friendly hostess. - Very central location . Excellent provisions for a DIY breakfast . Very friendly hostess. Washing up was a little odd but manageable .
- Massayo (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliant breakfast provisions, good location and comfy bed
- Freya (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are so friendly and welcoming. The property is beautiful and was kitted out with everything we needed (and more)! Would really love to go back here for another trip!
- Phoebe (10/5): Lovely pet-friendly stay in the heart of Margaret River - Lovely hosts who made us feel welcome and gave us great advice about the area and places to see. Steve and Meg also gave us space and privacy and we’re all round exceptionally friendly and hospitable.
- Paul (9/5): Great stay comfortable accommodation. good location . - Location less than 10 min walk to main street. Quite area. Secure car park. Private outdoor area with outdoor furniture.
Breakfast provided was very good Fresh bread ,eggs cereal. Fruit, juice milk. all that you needed. Woolworths just around the corner.
Aircon in the room.TV internet that was reliable. The owners very accommodating and informative . Nothing to mention, it served our purposes well.
- Wilson (8/5): Margaret River Forest
Retreat - The owner was extremely helpful and went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
The accommodation was very comfortable and the location was close to the shopping centre, but far enough away for it to lovely and quiet.
Margaret River is a great place to base yourself. So much to do and so many beautiful places to see.
- Olga (7/5): Good -
- Sonia (8/5): Very good -
- Murray (10/5): Very enjoyable. Hosts very obliging, helpful and Aunty Betty was a delight. - Very clean, comfortable and well stocked A larger TV
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Aileen (9/5): Meg was a delight, could not have been more friendly or accommodating, and was not intrusive.. - Excellent facilities. Breakfast provisions were fine for our needs. We were made to feel very welcome Washing up was quite difficult (bit we acknowledge the offer made by Meg that she would do it. Bowl had to filled from bath and either washing up done kneeling beside bath, or bowl taken elsewhere, which would have been awkward.
- Alison (9/5): comfortable 3 nights - Awesome location just a hop skip and a jump to the Main Street. The host Stephen was very friendly and helped us out with what there was to do around Margaret River. The room was very comfortable and lovely and clean. There was a well stocked fridge with eggs, yogurt, fruit, water, juice and even chocolates. There was a variety of cereal and plenty of bread. Would definitely recommend this accommodation and hopefully we will get to come back and stay one day :) nothing at all
- Rani (10/5): Steve and Meg were excellent hosts and did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. - The location was central and within walking distance to all amenities. The hosts provided lots of food and drinks, and were always willing to provide any assistance when required. -
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, very clean and perfect for our dog which enjoy the garden and play with the owner's dog
- James (8/5): Warm, personable hosts; comfortable, clean and well stocked private accommodation @ great location. -
- Brendan (10/5): Exceptional - The host, Steve, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful in providing information about the surrounding area. Nothing, the apartment had everything you could need and was very clean and comfortable.
- Keith (7/5): Breakfast lacking content -
- Duncan (7/5): Good -
- Barry (9/5): A very enjoyable break, in a perfectly central location for exploring the Margaret River area - Stephen and Meg were marvellous hosts, friendly, helpful and informative about local places of interest.
The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with good facilities. Nothing much , perhaps the weather could have been much warmer!
- Jane (8/5): great time - great location, all that we needed, comfortable, clean, independent
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, lovely room with everything you need That we had to leave
- Helen (8/5): pleasant and convenient - the host is delightful and the location fantastic everything was ‘there’ but a tad jury-rigged.
- Philip (9/5): Comfy, welcoming property with great location - Although breakfast was DIY we were provided with tasty items. We were a little challenged by the cooking of the eggs provided. Microwave and fry pan without flipper/flapper were adequate but could be easily improved.
The room was spotless and all linen and towels equally spotless and replaced when necessary.
Our hosts were exceptional, both welcoming and helpful. Nothing . It was a great place to stay
- Richard (9/5): Great accommodation which we would happily use again - Meg and Steve were fantastic and friendly hosts. The space was comfortable and the breakfast really good. Nothing was too much trouble for them and it felt like visiting friends The weather meant we couldn’t practically sit and eat outside which made the breakfast a bit more challenging. There was limited acoustic insulation between the accommodation and the main house which made one be thoughtful
- Graeme (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lyn (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (9/5): Superb -
- Geoff (9/5): Great location, helpful staff, good breakfast, very clean and comfortable. - Breakfast provisions were generous and of good quality. Meg and Steve were great hosts and very helpful. Nothing it was all good.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - The location and the friendly hosts.
- Silvia (5/5): Not worth the money - The location is lovely and within walking distance of the town. It is nice to have your car behind a guarded fence instead of parked on the street. The host was friendly. The room is very dated and noisy, you hear word-for-word conversation from the main house. Everything felt tired and uncared for/ The bed was uncomfortable. There was no cleaning during my stay, not even the wastebasket was emptied. The breakfast is fruit and some butter and jam and cereal in a closet. There are even clothes hanging in the closet. The fridge is in the same room and interrupts your sleep. The television is 15 inches at most. Although you have the possibility to heat something in a microwave, you can only do the dishes in the bathroom sink which is not hygienic. For over 400 Euro you expect so much more.
- Frank (9/5): Superb -
- Reggie (9/5): Would go back for a stay. Steve was such a friendly and helpful person to deal with. - Within walking distance from the town. No need to use a car to eat out
Friendly and welcoming staff
Cosy and quiet
Secured lock up for a vehicle Could not complain about anything
Shame we had such bad weather but it did not ruin our vacation
