Guest Reviews
- P4222DMnigelb (10/5): Lovely food and accomodation - Great stay and Food..........................................................................................
- davidjF651AT (10/5): Brilliant food, service & staff - Lovely nights stay, brilliant local friendly pub with good parking. Clean, cosy room with good sized bathroom and comfy bed. Tasty food with a good choice (it was a Sunday). Leah was so attentive, nothing was too much trouble, serving both the evening meal and breakfast. Dog friendly was a bonus!
- AllGoodFu (6/5): The Manor St Bees January 26. - Disappointing overnight stay. Images on the website lead you to expect better and are obviously old, the furniture is tired, especially seats, carpets have seen better days. Some areas of the bar and dinning area have blown plaster and are ready for a redecoration. My room had been painted recently, and I could smell fresh paint. It had new curtains (still creased from packaging). The bed was comfortable although a little cold. It was a sqeeze getting into the shower. The bathroom had a tile missing and the floor needed bits of repair. At £85 for a Sunday night in January for 2 it wasn't the most expensive but not the best value I've had for my money. Food hygiene 4. I always choose 5, however I wasn't told that food would not be available and had to take a trip to Whitehaven for a takeaway. Beer was nice although the advert stated a selection of cask ales, there was only one. The bar shut at before 11pm. The breakfast was good. I would be hesitant to use this chain for accommodation again. Overall I would rate it as acceptable as the bedroom was clean.
- N9eav (8/5): A pleasant stay - For the most part a good stay. The room was large enough and fairly fresh. Plenty warm enough in the cold winter nights. Tea and coffee facilities. Good wifi, Excellent cooked breakfast. Free parking and convenient for the local attractions. Ensuite bathroom. Good shower pressure and hot water. I found it quiet for sleeping, although there will be some noise from the inn below during opening hours. Pillows were a bit flat for my liking. The only negative thing was lack of stock and choices in drinks and food, but these were limited to it being the New Year and awaiting delivery. Probably won't affect normal periods. We ate here twice as well, and the food was great, plentiful and piping hot. Service was good all the time.
- John (10/5): - Healthy breakfast, suitable for all types.
- Jason (8/5): - Excellent views, brilliant for walks and a peaceful break.
- philhS3924RE (6/5): Disappointed ., for a Cumbrian Hotel. - Booked direct ., Ticked a Box for Pet., No charge was shown [ Their website says Fee MAY be charged ., Manager Now tells me Always Charged ! , For DEEP Clean , absolute rubbish . Given Rm. 8, Why ? Manager tells us now Pet Free ! --- Sorry , Now , not a lot like any Photo., needs urgent attention. Full Cost + Pet charge . requested on check in. OK., bit unusual.
The Food is Excellent The Service Excellent , Not too Expensive . But being a short ride in Cumbria thought we may be back often ., Not Before Changes .
- Edward (10/5): - Friendly staff, good parking area, the meal we had was very good and a great breakfast.
- Jon (8/5): - Lovely food and location just a short walk rrom the beach
- Amanda (10/5): - Great bar & restaurant, lovely warm rooms with great character
Staff friendly
- David (10/5): - Very nice staff, excellent breakfast great for parking.
I had a very nice stay,
Recommended .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Will definitely stay again - Lovely people, great room and the breakfast was amazing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cold stay - I stayed in room 6. The room was so cold throughout the night, to get a comfortablesleep i had to get up and put more clothes on. The bathroom was also freezing and the decor was very tired with tiles coming away from the wall.
The staff however were very pleasantand and the food was of a good quality.
- stephaniewY5468EB (10/5): Sunday roast - We were staying at Seacote holiday park googled roast dinner and the manor came up we are Family of 5 adults and a baby staff were lovely and friendly and food was amazing we all had Sunday roast home made Yorkshire pudding was very tasty would highly recommend Caron was a lovely lady very welcoming
- Amanda (10/5): - Very nice place to stay in small village. Friendly and charming
- Kimberly (10/5): - Extremely cool little town. Walkable to the beach. Excellent roast dinner on Sunday!
- Paul Ciprian (10/5): - Nice comfy room, splendid breakfast.
- Pam (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Manor Hotel. It was a lovely place to stay for a couple of nights even though the room was a little small. The food was excellent and had a good choice. Everyone was welcoming.
- davenjulia (10/5): Great location and value - Great location and value for exploring the area. The railway station is very close and the coast is walking distance for the start of the C2C walk. I’ve used this hotel several times before and always had a very comfortable night and friendly service from the staff.
- Odyssey47190995694 (4/5): Awful Sunday lunch - Sunday Lunch was awful.
Soggy Yorkshire puddings, undercooked roast potatoes (if you were unlucky enough to get them). My husband had no roasties or carrots. The veg was floppy. It was as if they microwaved the whole meal. My friend also asked for his missing roast potatoes & pretty much got huffed at. They never once asked how our meal was & our plates were still half full after attempting to eat them. The starters were rubbish too.
Then they tried to charge us for 3 courses when we only had 2.
We would never go there again!
- gavinsD82PM (10/5): Date night stopover - Rang ahead on Saturday afternoon & were greeted by a lovely lady on the phone who arranged for us to park overnight in our campervan after our evening meal.
Food was so nice,I had a burger & home cooked chips & my better half indulged in the carbonara,I may have even pinched some of hers 😊
Definitely recommend this little gem of a spot to anyone visiting the area, even having breakfast here before we head back home.
Our 1st night kid free for what seems like forever & we certainly picked the perfect place
Thanks to all the super friendly, helpfulstaff & of course the chef 😊
- Quest744236 (10/5): EXCELLENT - Just PERFECT , this place should be 5 star for staff alone . Both Karen and Jane made our stay , they could not do enough. The rooms are smallish but very comfortable, clean and warm. We had the set NYE menu which was very reasonable at £37 per person. The beef meal had the most delicious veggies, gravy and a good generous portion of meat. The previous night we had eaten in the bar after the lively Karen had checked on our journey as we were running late. The bar food was fab, hot tasty and fresh.
Breakfast was a bit dissspointing as menu consisted of just 3 different sizes of full English or egg bacon or sausage on toast . There was a small cereal bar also. Regardless this doesn’t deflect from how great this place is.
A shout out also to the room service lady who was very friendly snd went out of her way to leave more tea in our room.
Toiletries a very good quality , as was bed linen.
Our dog was made very welcome treated as part if the family .
Keep up the good work, can’t wait to come back.
- humboldtraveler (2/5): Go else where - Go somewhere else. My hiking company booked me here. Dinner was the worst. I didn't eat the dinner. Paid for it though. Waitress was very good and nice. The room I am in is above the pub so very noisy. Took out my ear plugs. Extremely sorry I am staying here. Oh rooms so small hard to find a space to open one suitcase let alone two.
- Niall_Milligan (8/5): Excellent staff, good food, but other things certainly let the Manor down during our 4 night stay. - We stayed for 4 nights whilst in the area and had a mixed bag of feelings about this establishment. Whilst the staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful, they are somewhat let down by the establishment even though "it is an old building" (the managers excuse for many things).
We initially put in room 6 which has a emergency exit sign above the door that illuminates the room throughout the night bright green, so don't expect to get a good night's sleep unless you've brought an eye mask. But when they could they transferred us to another room that was much better and we would have slept soundly throughout the night but were disturbed by a fire alarm on both remaining nights, the first at 2am without any staff attendance for over 40 minutes. We even had to call the fire brigade so that the alarm could checked out.
But back to more enjoyable experiences of our stay. We had dinner during our stay and it was good to see that the menu was properly labelled showing where things were dairy-free, as I am dairy intolerant. The food was very nice and well presented. It arrived in a timely manner, nice and hot, and tasted really good.
Breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was the highlight of our stay as we got to meet Katie who served us our breakfasts. She is an absolute legend and she truly is the best thing about the Manor. Even after our disturbed night due to the fire alarm she managed to brighten up our moods and day, and set us off with a spring in our step.
I would say though all the staff were very approachable and helpful. We were in the area house hunting and they were able to give us information about the different areas that would have taken us ages to find out for ourselves. So I really would like to say thank you to all of them.
- Mark (10/5): - Very clean and tidy
- Dbcandoit (4/5): I wouldn't go back - The chef was late in the morning with everyone queuing in the corridor. the service was then rushed..
The filter coffee was not refilled as tge poor guy was rushed off his feet.
The packed lunch was so poor that the sandwiches were thrown away.
Rooms were over the bar and very noisy.
I would definitely not go back
- Michael (4/5): - This room we had was spacious. However the bathroom left a lot to be desired.
Black mould from damp on the windows. Tiles falling off in the bath/ shower. No hot water in the shower.
Bizarrely to get hot water in the sink you have to turn the tap on the wrong way.
2 of us in the room. 1 bath towel
1 hand towel. But with no hot water it didn’t matter too much.
- D (10/5): Gteat location - Great location with ample parking at the rear of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): thumbs up - Comfortable stay. Good food, though excessive oil poured over salad.
- elainegM7803QF (8/5): Good food.. lovely staff - We popped in every evening for a meal .. after a couple of days the staff remembered us and our pooches which we like . Food was very good.. I would totally recommend here .. wr ate there 3 nights and all dishes were excellent.
- moogiman1999 (4/5): Staff letting down the venue. - Fantastic beer garden and draught beer. Very surely and abrupt bar staff though. Ruined an otherwise lovely afternoon. This is the second time this last week I have been there, and her attitude was dreadful.
- janh924 (2/5): Lousy - Rude staff. Room not ready on arrival at 3:30. Told to have a beer or go for a walk. Relayed we had traveled all day and needed to rest. They couldn’t have cared less. We waited over an hour and no one told us anything except to just keep waiting. If you are planning an early start hiking this is NOT the place to stay. The Queens Hotel seemed much friendlier do we had dinner there.
- Malcolm (10/5): - Staff were very friendly
- Y3363HArichardw (8/5): Sunday Lunch for Roxy - A great Sunday beef dinner, I had the pensioners special and wife the normal portion. There didn’t seem to be much difference between the two! Dog friendly and free hodge speed WiFi. Real ale available . Friendly and attentive staff. Will return .
- LMWBirmingham (2/5): Avoid - Nothing available on the menu except fish and Sunday dinners. Table was sticky, plates weren't cleared away in a timely manner, mushy peas were obviously microwaved because they were hard in places. And then when we came to leave, an elderly waitress had the audacity to ask if we had paid already!!!! AVOID!!!!
- Rod (6/5): - The room we were originally allocated was large and airy unfortunately it had a large number of flies, and they did not have any fly spray so they moved us to another room that was really small and was in need of a good dose of TLC nit was also directly above the Bar so was noisy until the pub finally closed, The best part of our stay was the breakfast freshly cooked to order consisting of high-quality food.
- john (8/5): - Room was small but clean. Parking and outside tables a plus
- rsmarwood (6/5): One night is sufficient. - Stayed here at the start of the coast to coast walk. To be honest the place is ok but the bar was full of dogs and the menu didn’t look enticing. St Bees is an odd place and there is no reason to come back. Just average. Better pub across the road with good beer and food.
- Michelle (10/5): Lovely stat - Lovely room and comfy bed. Good food.
- 760babsg (10/5): You must call in to this amazing place - Called in for a bite to eat, not only did they accommodate us despite lunch having finished , it was beautiful! Presentation was fabulous, staff fabulous, toilets fabulous! Think you get the drift! The whole atmosphere was just FABULOUS! Call in, you certainly won't be disappointed
- Diane (10/5): - Lovely village setting, clean, comfortable and convenient for a walk to the beautiful beach.
- BecJ43 (6/5): A basic hotel - We stayed here at the start of our Coast to Coast Walk. When we arrived on a sunday afternoon the pub was busy and was noisy quite late with karaoke, it was bank holiday weekend so everyone was in a party mood. The rooms are decent sized and a good breakfast is served.
- P9262YFsimonh (4/5): Disappointing - Our room was a decent size. The bed was ok. However the shower didn't work at all. we asked for a hairdryer and the staff looked bemused, but said they would get one and put it outside our room, they never got one. There were dirty marks on the walls and ceiling where it looked like lights had been changed but the dirty workmans finegr marks not painted over. Old rawl plugs left sticking out of the wall where something once was, a hole in the bathroom wall and mould and missing grout around the bath tiles. The food was dreadful. I had lasagne and on one side of the dish I had some ragu, the other side was just a solid lump of 'bechemel' sauce, loaded chips were soggy and under a tonne of congealed cheese, the breakfast wasn't much better, we found where the hair dryer got to, the chef used it to dry the mushrooms on our breakfast!. Don't know where the photos of the food came from but none of the meals around us looked anything like them. They told us they have a new chef, not sure he knows what he's doing.
- D1734VZkarenr (6/5): Value for money - Had a one night stay here. The beach is lovely but you do have to pay to park, The venue is essentially a local pub. The room was large and basic, the shower was a trickle however the bed was the comfiest one we slept in on our trip! The noise from the bar did carry up to the room but at least the play list was decent. We ate dinner here too, I had lasagne and husband had fish and chips, the portions were huge but the quality wasn’t brilliant, mine was dry and the fish was soggy. Breakfast was included in the price of the stay and was ok, we only paid £52 so all in all it was value for money.
- michelle (4/5): - Room was run down, damp patches on the walls, room was cold. Owner was extremely drunk bumping into people, loud two lots of music. Ate there as it had been recommended we had lasagne which was dry . overall I was disappointed
- Sandra (8/5): Lovely stay - Excellent service, food amazing, cocktails Devine
- Brenda (10/5): - Staff were consistently helpful
- Linda (8/5): Pleasant stay - Room was clean, comfortable a little small but more than adequate & everything to han
d. Sunday afternoon locals a bit rowdy which stopped us sitting in the sun. Staff excellent and very amenable. Good breakfast. We ate our dinner at the Manor which was good but not great! We would stay again but choose a midweek stay-away
- Mikan999 (8/5): Good pub and b+b - We stayed here as the first night before our coast to coast walk. The Manor is traditional style pub with a bar, restaurant and rooms above. The room was comfortable although a little small. The bathroom was clean and functional. We ate in the pub restaurant which served simple but good pub grub. The breakfast was freshly cooked and good with a good choice. The lady who checked us in was very friendly, the other staff in the restaurant were rather distant. The location is good, on the main street, which is quiet at night. From the pub to the official starting point of the coast to coast walk is about a mile.
- E (10/5): - Excellent breakfast and dinner...qulity ingredients but dinner was too large for my taste...this however didnt mean they compromised on quality.
Comfortable bed...shower pressure a bit low and temperature hit and miss
- Robert (6/5): Must have been a bad day! - Very busy bar was location for check in after a long wait. Bedroom and bathroom very good. Staff struggled with service at dinner time. Food ordinary.
- Peter (6/5): The hotel Alex Polanski needs to visit. - The room was reasonably comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was excellent and the waitress was very friendly and efficient.
The 2 meals which we had were 2 extremes.
Day1- The sirloin steak was excellent(although the chips were overcooked) 7/10.
Day 2-The teriyaki chicken was diabolical... Too much sauce.. almost inedible 2/10.Went to the pub opposite for a pizza.
Unfortunatly the rooms do not have heating(although the bathroom has a heated towel rail)
On the information sheet it explains that the heating in the room is permanently turned off however if you require heating ask at reception and the boiler would be boosted and the heating in the room would work.
On day 2 myself and my wife ventured forth on a mini hike and in the process got wet through. On returning to the hotel reception (16.00h I politely requested the heating to be turned on and I was told it would take 30 minutes for the radiators to start to work.. 40 minutes later still no heating. I revisited reception and the manageress(Nicola) assured me that the heating would be working within the next 30 minutes... No joy. I made a further 2 visits to reception and was fobbed off on both occasions. At 20.00h I was told I could use the hotel's drier in order to dry our wet clothes but I had to wait 10 minutes as there was a load currently being dried. At this point I gave up!
Poor customer service Nicola! You need to improve!
I won't be re-visiting the Manor in future and recommend prospective customers do the same.
- Jon (10/5): Friendly local pub feel - Lovely friendly staff, nothing too much when asked for anything.
Had steak and ale pie which i can highly recommend
- Susan (10/5): St bees was heavenly - Brilliant stay in st bees, the hotel is lovely and clean, quiet and friendly, staff were welcoming and breakfast was lovely. Well done to the manor we had a great stay.
Also the pub over the road was nice as well.
- Gemma (8/5): Great spot - Great value. Lovely location. Really good breakfast
- Angie (10/5): Fabulous rooms and food - Great place to stay
- Alan (8/5): - We booked 2 rooms a family of 3 for 1 night [ Sun ] No complaints about hotel or staff But very disappointed that no meals available after 3pm on Sun which left us searching for some where to eat This should be made more aware when booking a Sunday
- dean (10/5): - We had a fab time. All staff were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was a bother.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A nice hotel but very noisy - Its a nice pub and hotel, staff are very pleasant, the rooms are comfortable and affordable and the breakfast is lovely, the main and only problem i had is most of the hotel rooms are on the first floor, meaning the pub and dining area is directly under your room no matter which room you have booked, so the noise that bellows up from the bar area is very noisy with rowdy drinkers, this goes on until well into the night, making getting to sleep very difficult, if your a late sleeper its not so bad, but it you want to sleep before 11pm forget it, with the noise its impossible to sleep, even with the tv on in your room you can barely hear it, its a nice hotel its just such a pity it is also a pub. You also get woken up around 6am with the staff coming to work to do breakfast.
- Kev (8/5): - Stayed a few b & b's in the area now as have family living in Whitehaven, all mostly on a par with each other The Manor Hotel is no exception this is the first time we have stayed there, cant complain about anything, clean well set out, breakfast was tasty & hot! Staff helpful & pleasant, yes would stop again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Spotlessly clean ! - Spotlessly clean & loads of fresh towels . Family slept 3 comfortably & very friendly staff .
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel is Ok. - The hotel was okay. The facilities were fine and the room was nice. It has a nice car park in the back. The only problem with the hotel was it is situated over top of a pub. The pub has average food for breakfast and dinner. Nothing to write home about, but it was decent. The only reason that we would not stay there again would be how loud the pub was which carried into our room at night. If you are wanting to get a good night of sleep before 11pm on a weekend day, it will be very loud.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Since this is the only Pub in the village who serves meals, it is best to do reservation for dinner. My dinner was great and so was for the other 12 people I was with. Breakfast could be however better. It's very plain.
- Anna (10/5): Warm welcome in lakeland seaside village - We loved this hotel. It is situated in the heart of the picturesque lakeland village of St Bees, near to the beach and the golf course and only two minutes' walk from the rail station, so there was no need to hire a car. Alan and his staff were welcoming and helpful and although the building is old and full of character, our bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. The cooked breakfast was locally sourced and delicious and the home cooked food served in the restaurant was of an equally high standard. There was even a friendly "ghost" in the dining room.
- Mike (10/5): Wonderful hotel in a beautiful town - My partner and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. The staff at the hotel and indeed the locals of St Bee's were very friendly and welcoming. We felt very relaxed here and indeed we will be back again. St Bee's is a lively town, absolutely buzzing!
- J (6/5): Nice place but noisy customers - I had a room over the restaurant area, facing towards the ocean. Reception was okay (some oversights, like asking if I wanted to reserve a table for the evening), room was great (excepting noisy revelers downstairs outside the window), and food was wonderful (compliments to the kitchen team!). I'd suggest a room towards the back if noise is going to be an issue for early sleepers.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - One night stay arrived to a rock band playing very loud music, not a good first impression, kitchen was getting refurbished so no food, went out looking for somewhere to eat, choice limited but ate at pub over road which was nice. When got back to hotel band had finished, couldn't open room window, woke at 5am with traffic noise, only continental breakfast available overall bit disappointed for price paid, should have mentioned about food in info.
- Jeanette (10/5): Hull Drifter's scooter club Coast to Coast - My husband and friends stayed here when doing a coast to coast Lambretta scooter rally, unfortunately due to the age of the scooters they had breakdowns they didn't arrive until 9.30pm plus and the landlord re-opened the restaurant did the 7 of them pie and chips, he couldn't do enough for them. The rooms were excellent and breakfast was fantastic. The landlord was fantastic and would like to thank him on behalf of the scooter club.
- Bart (8/5): Nice hotel, very popular busy place in the bar. - Lovely stay well looked after by the staff, pub and restaurant very busy and noisy, owner moved us to a quiet room as hotel was empty. Would ask for a quiet room when booking next time, room 6 was okay.
- Trina (10/5): Home from Home and the Food is Superb - Stayed here for 1 night. This is a great place with lots of character including an open fire in the bar which makes it really homely. Just the sort of place that is lovely to walk into after a long journey in the cold. Everyone was really friendly and the bar was full of locals which speaks for itself. Had an evening meal there and the food was absolutely superb and very reasonably priced as was the room. The breakfast was excellent too. Alan, the owner was very helpful and had a lot of local knowledge which was really useful. Will definitely stay here again if I'm in the area and highly recommend it.
- Robert (8/5): A good place to stay in St Bees - The room was smallish but adequate, and the bathroom was a good size. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent.
- paul (10/5): Haig Colliery Museum - cant fault it
- John (8/5): Saturday night at the manor! - Stopped for just a night. The food and staff were fantastic and the owner was very friendly. The room was just what we wanted and worth the money. The only gripe was that the family room we had was above the noisey bar which when you have 2 children wasn't ideal but All in all it was a great stay
- Raven (10/5): good looks and value - This is a small country hotel on the main st, with particularly good food in their bar/ restaurant. It is within a few minutes walk from the station and the spectacular beach. They also have a spacious car park at the rear. The staff are helpful and efficient, the rooms are clean and comfortable and a pleasant night's sleep was had by us. Plus, it is very good value for the money. I am vegetarian, but this presented no problem. The veggie options were imaginative and tasty. Oh and then there's Lydia, a local resident of St Bees. The energy of the woman has to be seen and heard to be believed. We witnessed her drowning out a meatloaf song on a jukebox, all without a mike, and whilst dancing energetically. And boy can she sing well. What more can you ask? We hope you run into her on your stay.
- Rjay (4/5): Noisy, noisy, noisy! - No welcome, room nice, airy and clean. Lucky I don't take milk in my tea as there was only enough for two cups of tea for my partner. We were expecting some noise as it is a pub but not dance music up to 1am. A gentleman who I presume was the owner did have the courtesy to apologise when we went down for breakfast. Breakfast was well cooked but it's the first time I've been served half a mushroom on my plate! All told I would not recommend this place if you are staying at the weekend.
- dan pearson (4/5): room - Room was clean n tidy but uneven floor bed outer level felt as thou you were slipping out all the time furniture needs renewing tv placement in wrong g place and a wrong height to watch clearly you had to stand up
- Paul (10/5): Very welcoming and helpfull staff - Stayed here on night before doing the Coast to Coast bike ride. Very helpful sorted out an early breakfast. Manged to pair me up with another cyclist to get me to Whithaven. Lovely food and generous portions and was able to sit and eat in Beer Garden with the wife and dog.
- Tommy (10/5): The Perfect Base for a local Music Festival. - My Partner and I were going to a Music Festival in neighbouring Whitehaven.
We initially booked this Hotel through Expedia and travelled down from Glasgow
on the morning of the Concert: We arrived around 2'ish and were immediately
shown to Our Room (No#7) which turned out to be spotless with a very modern Shower
and WC en-Suite. Alan (I believe the Proprietor) was So friendly & Helpful. Felt relaxed
and pleased We'd discovered such a Lovely Hotel. Drinks outside on the Sunny Forecourt before
heading to the Concert. Returning around half11 We sat in the busy Bar and re-called a
Fantastic Gig with new Friends who'd so kindly given Us a Run back as They were staying
in Same Establishment. After a sound Sleep and hearty English Breakfast, We had a Stroll
round the beautifully quaint Town of St.Bees before leaving. A Perfect Stay !!! Thank-U
Manor House !!
