Guest Reviews
- Claire (10/5): Warm welcome and great location - Very warm welcome from all staff. The Dog and Partridge are incredibly dog friendly even providing dog towels and a bowl in the room. Good local beers in the bar and great food. There was a lovely community feel too. Easy parking and great access to the Pennine Way.
- Lynda (10/5): really welcoming and friendly, had a great time and will be going back -
- Madeleine (9/5): Welcome rest & reset, despite being next to a busy road, the landscape & wildlife & sheep & cows were go - Stylishly designed with classic country-home furnishings. Superb food for evening meal and breakfast ! Hosts were really friendly & helpful. Next to a busy road
- Dylan (9/5): -
- Clare (10/5): Excellent place to stay, definitely recommend. - The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was warm and very comfortable. And the food in the restaurant was excellent, both our evening meal and breakfast. Nothing to dislike.
- Caroline (10/5): Great - It was absolutely great,
Everything was lovely ,
Throughly enjoyed.
Very pleasant ,
Loved all. There was nothing to not like
- Rachael (8/5): The staff and location are what makes this place special - Staff were excellent. They were all helpful, friendly and natural. Food was good, especially the breakfasts. Location stunning. Although we didn’t have a dog, their warmth and attitude to elderly guests with their pets was a credit to them. The ability to turn down the heating in the room would have been a boon. We roasted and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was almost painful! The wooden bed frame creaked all night. The combo didn’t make for a brilliant nights sleep.
- Craig (10/5): -
- David (9/5): Happy with our stay in general. - The breakfast Omelette was lovely The door downstairs slams during the night.
- Kath (10/5): Perfect place for a cosy country-pub stay - This is a perfect cosy country pub stay. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. The location is stunning with great views. A very comfortable bed. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Liam (10/5): -
- Nathan (9/5): -
- Tessa (8/5): - Location was great staff wonderful We could not regulate heating system and we were too hot during the night. We had to open window all night which wasn’t environmentally friendly wish we could have turned the heating off
- Degnan (10/5): Relaxing and cozy - The staff and landlady were very polite and helpful and they were very professional. The food was exceptional and service in restraunt was great The shower was cold when we got there at 5.30 pm so couldn't shower to go for tea but next morning the water was nice and hot
- Ian (9/5): -
- EttaDainty (9/5): Lovely rural pub with great facilities, excellent location for hiking! - Great size room, lovely pub with real fire in the bar. Free pool table. Spacious parking, great location for hiking We found the underfloor heating in the bathroom (room 10) extremely hot, and could definitely do with being turned down (we had no access to the controls). Some probably don't mind this, but we sleep hot and it also made the rest of the room very stuffy...
- David (10/5): It was peaceful and very quiet exactly what we hoped for. The english/yorkshire breakfast was perfec - It is situated in a lovely peaceful location nestled in the Peak District the surrounding area and views are absolutely stunning.
All the staff were excellent and friendlyfrom the moment we arrived until our departure.
They even advised us on local taxi firms to help us get about We couldn't fault anything at all
- Neville (10/5): A really excellent stay at the Dog and Partridge - Breakfast was excellent. Evening meals also. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. Bar was very cosy with great atmosphere. Nothing
- Beverly (9/5): Great place, shame about the breakfast - Lovely room, very comfortable bed Breakfast was poor. Scrambled eggs so dry I could not eat them. Pretty sure they were not freshly cooked as had black bits. The waitress asked other tables if everything was OK but did not ask us, not even when she collected the plate with the eggs untouched.
- Richard (10/5): Dog and Partridge Inn well worth a visit - Looked nice, very well presented Nothing
- Tim (9/5): Suited our needs perfectly - Decent sized twin room with more than adequate facilities. Tea, Coffee, TV etc. Bathroom was clean and a decent size, but the shower was a bit on the small side.
Breakfast was perfect with lots of choice.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Most people know this before booking, as they only stay there to break up their travels, but the location is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, on a main road. The pub / hotel is all there is in terms of local amenities, unless you wish to take a £15 taxi to Holmfirth.
- Georgy (7/5): - Great location, friendly staff, nice pub area, good food, dog friendly, large rooms Wasn't exceptionally clean, had to change one of the rooms (the new one was fine)
Not the most modern rooms
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Enjoyable stay, great food and lodgings - Everything - excellent service, friendly and efficient staff, spotlessly clean everywhere, fabulous food. Nothing
- Agnieszka (10/5): -
- Russell (10/5): New Year Getaway - Very warm welcome and accomodating. Great atmosphere in the evening , and obviously the fantastic Jean on keyboard Limited vegetarian options for the evening meal, though breakfast was catered for
- Sandra (9/5): Friendly and professional staff, excellent food and fab location. Would highly recommend. - The location was easy to get to, the decor was tastefully done and in keeping with the original property. We couldn’t find it from the information we had. The post code took us to the wrong location. We noticed you have what three words on your business cards. Would have been useful to have this on the booking instructions.
- Dan (10/5): Highly recommend. The staff are amazing - Everything from the fantastic foods to amazing staff. We love it there and will be back again. Lauren and I go engaged there last year then went back this year after our wedding Nothing

Great to see a lovely coal fire blazing in the bar area. The rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable. The food was very good,, in particular the evening meal. Noah was brilliant as our waiter.
The whole atmosphere, friendly staff and warm welcome made it a lovely weekend stay for our family get together. Thank you all at the Dog and Partridge. Nothing we didn't like

- David (9/5): -
- Martin (9/5): Excellent stay. Have been before and will do so again in the future. - evening meal excellent, warm cosy pub, good bedroom and excellent breakfast. the TV controller in my room didn't work particularly well othrwis everyting very good.
- Brian (10/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): A really lovely stay in a very friendly pub/hotel with excellent cuisine. We loved it. - Dinner - wonderful - great ambience in the bar on Saturday evening. Shame the pianist was unable to attend for the sing-song
Breakfast - first class Nothing really - we will try and return
- Scott (9/5): Great room, great staff and great food - I thought the staff where very polite and made you feel welcome. Only thing I didn’t like was it was a bit warm in the room but the heating was set and couldn’t be turned down.
- Steele (9/5): -

- PETER1961JUNE (9/5): -
- Lee (10/5): Booked three rooms as stayed with friends whilst enjoying a hike in the area. Will 1000% be returning in the future x - Fantastic location, very warm welcome and friendly staff.
Great food (pie was amazing) and brilliant breakfast!!
- Paul (9/5): -
- Philip (10/5): Wedding reception - Was there for a family wedding, very friendly staff and host, reasonable prices, good meal and staff were very attentive, stayed overnight room was very comfortable and quite large, breakfast in the morning was excellent. All in all a good experience. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): Welcoming and dog friendly. Good value food and stay - Beautiful old building, modern comfortable rooms with underfloor heating.
There was a log fire blazing in the bar, as it was a little chilly out (we are soft southerners!) excellent beef and red wine pie. Breakfast was also delicious.
Staff were welcoming and gave good advice on potential dog walks. Nothing.
- sam (6/5): Room nice but expensive stay felt cheap. - Location was great, room was very spacious. Staff were friendly when I arrived and showed me to my room. The room was hot and the thermostat was locked. The tv remote literally had one button that worked so I couldn’t change channel.
My room had a skylight but no blind on it!! So at 5am my room is no longer dark, I don’t get why that’s acceptable or never been questioned. Literally just enough shower gel and shampoo for one wash and I have short hair, considering my wife didn’t attend no way was there enough for two people Breakfast was so disappointing for £150 stay, I asked for wholemeal bread only with having a stomach issue and the waitress looked at me like no way is that possible, I said can you ask, she said you can have gluten free which I didn’t need or want. One piece of bacon and small portion, waitress came back and said no wholemeal bread at all, coffee wasn’t great.
I just feel things need a look at, everything can be adapted, slight changes with very little cost and I would have been more than happy.
- Merle (9/5): - Nice location for walks!
- Steve (8/5): -
- John (10/5): Great staff, and the lady on the organ nailed the evening. Will return shortly - Staff friendly and informative Great view, outstanding building
- Susan (9/5): Fantastic little gem surrounded by wonderful views - I was looked after from the moment I arrived to the moment I left, everyone was absolutely fantastic and the evening meal and breakfast was amazing Nothing to dislike wish I had more time to stay and explore the area
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - fantastic welcome and felt like a home from home
- Niall (8/5): Good for us and dogs - Comfortable friendly to us and 2 dogs Nothing not to like
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Malcolm (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and pleasant in a nice location Everything was spot on
- Greg (8/5): All Good Bar A Few Niggles - Everything. The blocked sink in my room and the faulty door handle to my room. I was offered a different room but I was too tired to move.
- Hayley (8/5): Staff were super friendly, helpful and welcoming. Room was comfortable and location was great for the wedding we went to - Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
- Jan (10/5): Good old fashioned personal hospitality at its very best - Lovely location and very quiet despite the proximity to the road. Rooms are at the back of the building overlooking the moors. A delightful and professional welcome and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and food was excellent and home cooked. This is a family business that takes pride in its offering. We needed to leave before the normal breakfast time, but were provided with amazing fresh BLT sandwiches, water, biscuits, crisps and fruit to take with us. Our room was large and very comfortable; everything was spotlessly clean. We’d stay again. Nothing
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent service and excellent accommodation and food, in a beautiful place with lovely people highly recommended you will not be disappointed first class overall experience Nothing
- Angela (8/5): Very good -
- Nia (8/5): Very good - The room was very clean.
Staff were very helpful and efficient
Food in the pub was excellent with a lovely breakfast. We would stay here again. Bed was very hard and bathroom was a little tired.
- John (9/5): A lovely place to stay. - Clean, comfortable No problems
- Richards (9/5): Superb - Everything. Nothing
- Amanda (10/5): Great little gem of a place - Lovely place, amazing countryside surroundings, very helpful fabulous staff, lovely spotless room and the breakfast was amazing. Nothing
- Richards (9/5): Superb - Staff lovely, polite, and engaging. Room spotless (12). Plenty of parking. Only a little point, I'm a light sleeper and there was no blind for the roof light so light shone through a little on the early side. Wouldn't stop us staying again though.
- Lesley (9/5): We loved our stay - the staff were very good. - The location was stunning. The staff were very good. Our room was comfortable and had all we needed. The meals were very tasty.
- Brandon (10/5): Exceeded expectations, amazing place to stay, and Andrea's hosting was top class! - We enjoyed absolutely everything about our stay, an excellent place, and we would happily stay here again if we're looking for somewhere in the area.
Andrea was exceptional through and through, a great host!
We got a free room upgrade as it was empty which was really nice, the place exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious, the food absolutely spot on, and again, Andrea's service and hosting skills were top notch, very polite and caring.
The only thing I could fault is that the hot water took a while to heat up, at first I thought it wasn't working, but rest assured it just takes a few minutes, but that's absolutely no issue at all. No faults at all, just the previously mentioned hot water that takes a while to get going, but again this isn't an issue if you have even the slightest bit of patience.
- Paul (10/5): Fantastic stay on the edge of the Peaks. - We really enjoyed our stay.
The location, staff, room and food (breakfast and dinner) were all excellent. Good value too. Nothing to improve from our stay.
- Southern (9/5): Superb - Staff brilliant lovely scenic location Mattress was a little uncomfortable
- Brendan (9/5): Superb - One of our favourite places and so friendly.
- Mark (10/5): Excellent - Friendly staff who couldn't have done any more for us. We had a free room upgrade to the 4 poster bedroom. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Evans (9/5): One night, good evening meal and breakfast - It was quiet, good size rooms and comfy, we have stayed before
- Jacki (8/5): Disappointed after a good stay first time - This was our second stay because we enjoyed the first. The rooms are spacious and clean, bar is well stocked and food is good. Car parking is large and there are outdoor tables. The location is excellent. The bathroom door grated badly on the floor, so noisy to open or close. After breakfast I was told I couldn’t use the toilets in the bar as they had just been cleaned; I must use the bedroom. We should have booked a ground floor room as I have MS. We deliberately brought bags down before breakfast so I would not have to climb stairs again as my legs were stiff and painful. In addition, MS often makes people need the loo urgently so having to struggle back upstairs was distressing. If you must close the toilets, please leave one available for guests, and don’t close them during breakfast!
- Paul (10/5): Well worth the price. - Stayed two nights perfect location. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and evening meal.
Very pleased we chose it.
- Roger (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (9/5): Perfect for an overnight stop in wonderful location - would definitely recommend - Location, choice of drinks & food and staff were excellent. Breakfast service was a bit slow but the staff were very apologetic and very polite
- Carole (9/5): A lovely break for us and our dog! - Didn’t have dinner there but breakfasts were excellent A little scruffy in certain parts of the car park although car park itself was large and tidy
- Amanda (7/5): Good -
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (9/5): Very pleasant! Just what we needed for our stop. - Very friendly and accommodating. Couldn’t have felt more welcome with our dog. Loved the games room and everyone in the pub was lovely. Rooms were a little dated.
- Jayne (9/5): Superb - Lovley pub nice room Lovley evening meal & breakfast, Nice sing along Saturday night with organ music & Stuart singing had a really good night everyone was really friendly 👍
- Nicola (8/5): Great stay for walking and cycling. - Food at dinner was very good. The TV had a wide range of channels. The location was great - just two miles form our outdoor activities. We were in a standard room, but the plughole had no protection to stop anything falling down it and it was difficult to flush the loo.
- James. (9/5): Superb - Really friendly and attentive staff, great with our dog.
Food was lovely especially the breakfast (the dog loved his too!)
