Guest Reviews
- Catherine (10/5): - Staff are very nice and helpful!
- Heather (10/5): An excellent pub! - Outstanding pub! Well appointed rooms, tasteful and charming decor. We stayed here while walking the Cotswold Way. We had lunch in town before checking in and chatted with locals in the area. Each time we said we had reservations at The Crown the response would be ‘oh, great pub!’, or ‘delicious food’, or ‘oh, that’s a proper pub’. The Crown lived up to it all! Kate was a wonderful host and took care of all our needs setting us up with a trail lunch and everything. Our dinner was incredibly delicious as well. We couldn’t have been more pleased!
- Jason southern (10/5): Great - Lovely room friendly staff amazing breakfast
- David (10/5): Small But Perfectly Formed - A 2 night stop in business. The room was spotlessly clean with a nice, personalized, welcome note. The bed was very comfortable and the shower amazing.
Staff could not do enough to help and
Food in the restaurant was very good and judging by how busy it was when I arrived on Sunday, it is very popular.
The only downside which is totally outside the control of the hotel is the time it takes to get out of the junction onto the A46 which runs alongside the hotel (no traffic noise in the rooms which was welcome)
I would highly recommend The Crown Inn and am looking forward to returning there in the spring of 2025
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fab - Cannot fault my stay. After a long day, friendly service and super warm and cosy for November evening. In particluar Kirstie at brekafast, who made me smile before my 4 hour drive home. Recommneded, and will look to stay again when Im not in such a rush.
- Steven (10/5): - Fantastic pub / Hotel, I would definitely recommend.
The rooms are clean spacious and modern, the restaurant has a big choice of food and drink.
- Simon (10/5): - Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere and a good nights sleep
- katherine (10/5): Perfect stay! - Wonderful stay in a beautiful inn! Breakfast was amazing, and the staff was awesome. Highly recommend!!
- Ashley (10/5): - Clean, well decorated, stylish rooms and very good value. Would use again if in area.
- Maxime (8/5): - Inn was clean, food was great. Coming on foot from the Cotswold Way was kind of difficult, we stayed for more than five minutes on the side of the busy road waiting to securely cross the road.
- Eleanor (10/5): Delicious breakfast! - Really enjoyable stay, the hotel staff were welcoming and very friendly. Delicious breakfast!
- John (10/5): - Charming and welcoming staff. Comfortable accommodations and on-site restaurant.
- Franca (10/5): Like stepping back in time. - This inn was gorgeous. It was like stepping back in time. It was easy to find and the parking lot is easy to access and depart from. The room we were staying in was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The English breakfast that was included was tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. When staying in Chippenham, do not hesitate to book The Crown Inn.

- Neena (10/5): - Beautiful
- Melanie (10/5): I will be back - Lovely food, beautifully decorated and comfy room - and the staff are just fab x
- David (10/5): - First class all round in each category with one minor caveat. I have given 4 stars for "comfort" as we only had one (rather rickety) chair in bedroom. The room was big enough to accommodate two comfortable chairs.
- Carl (10/5): - The service was excellent from the minute we walked in , room was perfect , food amazing , good wine , everything just fabulous . Would stay again absolutley :-)
- Anna (10/5): Great little pub with room, recommended. - Lovely room, excellent dinner, fantastic staff, highly recommended.
- Katrina (10/5): The Crown Inn - Stayed just one night but it was lovely. Room was excellent and included an very tasty breakfast (we had full English). Staff were amazing. Made our stay very pleasant.
Thank you
[just one little comment - more breakfast teabags in the room please 😊]
- Steven (10/5): Lovely staff and rooms - Lovely place to stay, great food, staff and rooms. Also relaxing if you want to escape for a nice evening away with an overnight stay
- Howard (10/5): Fantastic - Turned out to be the perfect choice in every aspect
- Andrew (10/5): - Great location. Lovely accommodation
- Ian (10/5): The Crown Inn - A hidden gem! - Recently refurbished and in excellent order. The room as cosy, clean and had some relly nice touches to make it feel personal. The food in the bar/restaurant was awesome; plenty of it and really tasty, excellent value. A special shout out to Camille who was front of house and who couldn't do enough for us while we were there; friendly, accommodating and generally made us feel very comfortable.
- Ian (6/5): One night stay - Nice room. Went for a one night stay. Reasonable price and breakfast included. Unfortunately toilet wouldn’t flush which was obviously annoying. Reported in the morning and was told waiting a refurbishment shortly. Mmm I think the toilet is a necessity really.
- Joe (10/5): Nice stopover pub - Excellent room, massive comfortable bed. Staff welcoming and very pleasant. Great variety on offer for breakfast.
- Richard (10/5): - Another pleasant stay which is very convenient only being 5 minutes off the motorway in lovely surroundings. The breakfast was as good as usual - a nicely presented full English breakfast set me up for the day.
- Nadine Debolt (10/5): - What a fantastic find! Kind, friendly, and very accommodating staff and the food was superb! I will recommend this establishment to others.
- Anthony (8/5): - Lovely rooms, friendly service good safe car parking!
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent value for money , great staff and lovely breakfast.
- Craig (10/5): What a find! - Fantastic accommodation, very welcoming staff and fantastic food. Could not have asked for more. Recommend highly
- Cedric (10/5): - Excellent host, lovely room and a great breakfast. will certainly go back again.
- Stuart (4/5): - It all felt a bit tired. Welcome wasnt warm either.
- Mrs J M (10/5): Expedia causing payment problems - On arrival the hotel had a oroblem with expedia, we had paid on booking with Hotels.com, but Expedia refused the virtual card payment to the hotel. Luckily the manager helped us to stay whilst he dealt with the problem. This has happened before when I pay on booking.
- Susan (10/5): Nice - Lovely stay , excellent food and good service . Friendly staff
- Rachael (10/5): - The rooms were clean, beautifully furnished and spacious. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was amazing, really delicious and many wonderful choices for breakfast. I would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My stay at the Crown Inn was excellent great place with great staff
- Gregory (8/5): - Great little Inn, the pub is upfront with motel-type rooms in the back. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. It was convenient for our travels through the Cotswolds, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 5 stars - Lovely room, excellent accessible bathroom/wet room. Attention to detail - flask of milk, cafetière, range of teas and coffees, satellite tv, iron and ironing board. Very comfy bed and plump pillows, free WiFi, lots of plug sockets! And a lovely gastronomy pub with excellent food. always stop there for lunch on way to Bath, but this was the first ti e staying in the accommodation. Would definitely recommend.
- Patrick (10/5): - Beautiful place with amazing food. Great hospitality from everyone!
- Peter (10/5): Lovely country pub - Lovely room in a purpose-built block away from the pub. As others have said, it is quite near to the A46 and you can hear vehicles but it didn't prevent a good night's sleep.
Very comfortable bed and lots of nice little touches.
Breakfast was delicious and so nice to have a choice of hot food - I had a shakshouka which was delicious!
- Alla (10/5): - Comfortable and clean. Large parking on sight. Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast.
- Lee (8/5): - A little pricy for the quality of accommodation. Staff were competent if not that friendly and food was good. Room smelled a little damp and was cold.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A bit of updating beds and wet roomwould - Room was fine but did not like the wet room it was definately in need of refurbishing it was cleaned again which made it just about usable but the whole room stayed steamy for hours.
My bed had to have a duvet placed under the sheet to soften the spring stickibg out.
- Mark (8/5): - the rooms are basic but comfortable for 1 night, the pub attached is friendly and the food is good
- Mike (8/5): Nice country Inn - Stayed recently and had a comfortable couple of nights stay.
The outside rooms are spacious and clean and were serviced each day.
The food in the pub is very good as was the service.
Good selection of food and juices were available for breakfast including freshly cooked English.
So thank you you to all the staff.
Mike
- Jennifer (10/5): Highly recommend - Great find!
Such a friendly welcoming place, spacious clean room and excellent food.
Highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
- Gareth (10/5): - Comfortable, friendly welcome , good food
- William (10/5): - Comfortable stay. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food.
- Gary (10/5): Great stay - Very welcoming staff and food was great.
I enjoyed my stay
- Christopher (8/5): - Spacious rooms, clean and tidy. Good heating which we needed as it was freezing!! Staff were great, food was brilliant - especially the breakfast! Don’t forget to enter your registration in the machine for parking 😉
- Tim (10/5): Great little stop over - Warm welcome and greetings upon arrival. Lovely room and facilities. Easy parking. Excellent food and service in the bar area.
Overall _ a great place to stop over !!
- Michael (10/5): Two night stay - Quite happy with all aspects of our stay and will be going again
- Spencer (10/5): - Great Hotel, perfectly located for trips to Bristol & Bath. Food was excellent, plenty of options and the breakfast was awesome. Room was spacious and clean. All the staff were very attentive and courteous.
Definitely one to visit again - thank you 😊
- Alan (8/5): Convenient stop just off the M4 - A very short drive from the M4 junction, and just off the main road, VERY convenient
- christopher (6/5): Overnight - Restaurant menu needs large improvement but food served was ok
- Michael (10/5): Crown Inn - Quiet, comfortable, good food, good real ale, friendly and obliging staff. Quite satisfied.
- Nigel (8/5): Lovely place. - This is a lovely establishment. Good food, friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable. When booked through Hotels.com, booked breakfadt included, inly to be told by the hotel thatbit was not? Was then told to rake it up with Hotels.com, but again, that would not be easy, so paid the breakfast. They also add service charge for meals, watch that one, especiallt if you are a jotel guest. Better to leave a tip.
- Angela (8/5): - Lovely large room and bathroom that was tastefully decorated. Beautiful toiletries in the bathroom. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had breakfast/lunch and dinner at the Crown. Breakfast and lunch was lovely but dinner was overcooked. Pasty on the pie was hard and gravy had lumps. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Graham (10/5): Great short stay ! - We had a lovely stay at the crown inn ! Very clean and friendly staff! The food was excellent and all local produce. Thank for the great stay. Would use again !
- Mark (10/5): - a lovely little pub and B&B. Food was great and the room was comfy and quiet. Couldn't ask for more will stay again when I'm in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was charming and food was lovely ,easy for use to get into Bath and surrounding areas
Manager and staff very friendly 😘
- Sue (8/5): Clean, comfortable accommodation - Accommodation was in the converted stable block. Lovely and clean, fresh smelling linen, fluffy towels and vegan friendly essential oil toiletries. Food was very good (dinner and breakfast). Staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative is that the pub is located next to a very busy main road leading to the M4 although the noise is not too intrusive in the rooms. Suggest ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.
- John (10/5): - Very friendly. When there was a problem with a food order the manager went over and beyond to ensure the problem was resolved. Comfortable clean rooms. They give ground coffee in the rooms instead of instant! Tasty breakfast, nice relaxing atmosphere.
- COLLETTE (10/5): Ideally placed when walking The Cotswold Way - Stayed at The Crown Inn whilst walking The Cotswold Way. The rooms are in a motel type layout in the courtyard of the pub. Rooms were very comfortable and a large bathroom. We ate in the pub in the evening, which was good and the breakfast the following morning was excellent
- Laura (6/5): - Room was nice and contactless check in made it easy to park up and go straight to the room. What was disappointing was the fact that we were emailed on the day of our check in to say that the bar and restaurant were closed- the location of the hotel meant we had to drive to find somewhere to eat at late notice. We would have cancelled our room if we’d have known about this earlier but because we were told on the day of our check in, the cancellation charge meant we would have lost all of our money. Not good service from the hotel. Room was fine though.
- keely (10/5): - In the middle of nowhere but the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was lovely they were quiet as they were behind the pub off the main road.
- Sara (10/5): - Our stay at the Crown Inn was very enjoyable. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the bar was great. Overall excellent, only down point is if you require a taxi they are difficult to find
- Andrew (2/5): Don't Book - Completely misrepresented - There is no open Pub here. They are very poor conditioned rooms in the rear that are being let. No tea/coffee, no towels, no Toilet roll. Dust everywhere, dead and live insects etc. everywhere. The worst place we have ever stayed in. Will be looking for a refund
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok for a few nights - Arrived at Crown Inn which has good COVID-19 measures in place, one way system.
Room was clean and spacious but in need of a little modernisation.
Only disappointments included noise from road even when set back, no cooked breakfast which we were not forewarned about.
Pub had jovial and lively atmosphere in evening
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The modern stone faced cottages behind the Crown Inn are new and well designed, with excellent parking. The restaurant facilities are in the old pub and the menu is good and well served. Staff are very pleasant. We only stayed one night but for sure we would stay there again if in the Bath / Bristol area. Minor criticism is that the hot water does not always work, as the hot water system is shared by all (eight from memory) cottages. There is no wall or bedside clock in the room and the cottages are quite close to the A46 which is quite a busy road with traffic noise.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location, staff great, restricted menu, food quality disappointing - we did get a discount on meal bill, when we let staff know we weren’t happy, overall quality of accommodation we would have rated 3 star, rather than advertised 4 star - would suggest they exchange unhygienic shower curtain for a glass screen
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dirty, no staff on site, no pub open, no wifi. Go somewhere else.
- ANDY (10/5): Bloody Brilliant.. - First time stay for us, bloody brilliant. Accommodation and full English breakfast excellent, Eaten here a few times, defiantly not cheap BUT defiantly worth the money. Over all fantastic.
- Penny (10/5): Perfect place to stay - especially with dogs - Amazing! We would go back in a heart beat, breakfast amazing, staff amazing and friendly, beautiful rooms, comfortable and so cosy.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely room, lovely food .. breakfast was so good , cannot fault a thing .. highly recommend x
- David (8/5): BatH Christmas Market - Very friendly, helpful staff, clean & pleasant rooms, would book again.
- Colin (10/5): Bath Christmas market - Very comfortable stay, good bed and towels. Unlike some hotels this offers private accommodation and entrance. Friendly staff who worked amazingly well together in a very busy time of the year. Food was absolutely delicious and cooked fresh to order. Breakfast was a very good start to the day with a wide range of choices and huge 😁 I would thoroughly recommend this stay for either business or pleasure. Only a short drive to Bath
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional in every way. - An exceptionally clean establishment both in the bar and the accommodation. Dogs are allowed to be in the room and restaurant, on leads, which more places should do to attract customers. Great service in the restaurant which is inclusive of the bar. Very popular with the locals especially on the Friday evening which added to the atmosphere.
All in all, a great stay and we would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Crown - Food OK. rooms dirty. all areas of the hotel in need of refurbishment. Water in room cold on second day, plaster off the walls, shower filthy. Do not recommend for accommodation, OK just for food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food was fresh and well prepared. Ideal location from Castle Combe circuit or Bath Xmas market.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Comfortable clean quiet room.
Manager does not understand good customer service - so did not eat in restaurant ... went to The Bull down the road - excellent food & service there.
Bar staff friendly & polite though.
- Chris (10/5): Stopped for one night. - Very welcoming staff, clean and comfortable good size room. Booked a table for evening meal, food was very nice and the setting was too. Had breakfast which was part of the staying over package, it was very nice too with quality ingredients. Would 100% stop again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable place to stay and convenient location for Castle Combe circuit
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed for 3 nights and very pleased. Rooms in building at back of pub so really quiet and very clean. Restaurant good, lovely evening meal and breakfast with very helpful staff. Recommend the Crown and will definitely return.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Crown Inn is arguably one of the most authentic rural English Inn experiences I had during my week long trip through England and Wales.
Located in the literal middle of nowhere you can expect a fairly small and cozy English inn with friendly staff, old yet spacious and comfy rooms, a pub with a wide assortment of beers and plenty of parking space.
Just be aware that the hotel is hard to spot, especially during the night, but with a good satnav you'll eventually find it.
- VINCENT (8/5): Overnight stay - Good location for our visit to Dyrham Park. Room very comfortable with parking next to it. Food in pub was enjoyable both at breakfast and in the evening. Our host was friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Will be back again soon! - Lovely helpful staff, great beer, excellent food (dinner & freshly cooked breakfast, really comfortable bed and a large room.
Corvus stout is fantastic!
- Simon (10/5): Crown Inn - Very friendly staff good food nice and clean room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ideal location we visited Westonbirt & Bath during our stay.
Enjoyed evening meals & drinks in the bar on both evenings, breakfasts excellent, staff friendly & welcoming - we would stay here again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice staff, great room, good value, food options great too
- David (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Good food and choice of beer in the bar. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff and excellent breakfast. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I have stayed in cleaner and better equipped tents. On check in was met be a man whole was clearly broken inside. No wifi, the tv was so small my phone was bigger plus only 3 qvc channels available. WARNING stay somewhere else, your car or a bin maybe.
- Rob (2/5): Top money for low service and poor quality - Used to stay here regularly a few years ago and went back last Friday night.
We were travelling 2 hours to get there and my wife phoned ahead to ask when they stopped serving food, she was told by the lady on reception it was 9.30pm
When we checked-in we enquired about ordering food and was told that they stopped serving. I said my wife called and was informed it was 9.30 but I was told ' yes, that's correct but last orders for food is 9.15'. I checked the time on my phone and it was 9.14 so I said can I order but she said 'The Chef's gone home but there's a kebab van miles back the road'.
Secondly the room wasn't great. A very small TV mounted on the far wall that you could only watch with binoculars and the bathroom was very old and tired with a lot of mould around the bath and sink.
There was a coffee machine with a wide selection of English Tea, English Tea or English Tea and strangely no bedside lights so you had to negotiate your way to the bathroom and back to your bed in the complete darkness.
Such a shame, with a small amount of effort and money they could drag this into the 21st century in terms of service and details.
Until then, I shall stay elsewhere.
