• helen (10/5): It's not St Awful at all!!! - The facilities were very good. Exceptionally comfortable bed with crisp white bedding. Toiletries provided and a good standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful letting us leave our bags on the last day so we could explore the area until we moved on. The food was filling, delicious and well presented. The breakfast had a large choice and set us up for the day. Very close to the bus and train links and St Austell brewery. Although it is up hill. ( Note, the brewery will be closing for refurbishment in a couple of weeks) A visit to the church next door is well worth it . Check out the font and the golden dove from above. The walk along the river to Pentenwan beach is also a must. Being an old building the upper floors are out of kilter lol so don't think you have had too much to drink.

Very hard to get suitcases up with no help offered. Also when departing to the nearby station/bus station, you need to get a cab. Fortunately one came on time.

Would definitely stay again if we’re ever in that area. Breakfast was unbeatable, so much choice and everything freshly made to order. And the evening meals were lovely too, my husband even said the fish and chips were the best he’s ever had. I had the Sunday roast, it was just like my mum used to make, delicious! Nothing not to like!

• Stephen (9/5): Nice Hotel and food - The hotel location is good for exploring the area, and the hotel was nice and clean, the staff were polite and helpful, and the breakfast and meals were excellent, really enjoyed our stay. Would have preferred too eat breakfast and evening meals in the restaurant area and not the bar, this option was never offered, unfortunately St Austel itself is pretty run down and leaves a lot to be desired, but then they are not alone, what I wil say though is all shop staff we dealt with were really polite and friendly.

Well located for exploring Cornwall including the Eden Project, Helligan and the west of the county. Comfortable room and bed with good facilities. Excellent service from the kitchen with lovely breakfasts and dinners served in the bar area. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. A very good value stay. Hard to fault the White Hart. If I’m being picky, the bedroom door didn’t shut tightly and rattled a bit when others used the corridor or the window was open. Shower soap and shampoo dispensers were empty.

• Eden (4/5): Not recommended for parties of women. - The food was nice enough, and most of the staff (I will get onto this) were perfectly friendly. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was a really good size, and it's a very close stay to St Austell train station which is convenient for trains (obviously) but also for buses going direct to the Eden Project. I submitted a feedback form with my email address on it at the time of staying, and feel I have given the hotel long enough to reach out to me in apology or response. When we checked in (my Mum and myself), the man who seemed to work there mostly as the bartender was on the desk, and at first seemed just like a friendly guy. Then he gave me the keys to the room - I said thank you, and he responded by, I sh*t you not, staring open-mouthed at me and then doing what I can only describe as growling in the way that Austin Powers does in the films. Literally all I did was say thank you for the keys. He then walked off looking delighted with himself, and we went upstairs thinking that it was weird but that maybe it was a language barrier thing as his accent suggested English wasn't his first language. We then went down to dinner where he was doing the serving. Across this time, as well as staring at me from the bar, he made a lot of uncomfortable innuendos and comments - I can't remember the wording perfectly as it was a couple of months ago now, but like I said earlier I wanted to give the hotel a chance to let me know that they had addressed the feedback I left them. One example I can remember clearly is that he brought the bill over and asked "How do you want to share me - oops, I mean how do you want to share the bill!" (Absolutely disgusting regardless of surrounding circumstances, but also I'm travelling with my Mum, no I'm not interested in having a threesome with the creepy waiter at the hotel and my Mum, thanks) We barely made eye contact with him, sorted the bill, and left. He then shouted across the restaurant as we got up to leave, to ask us if we were staying another night. I said no, and he loudly declared oh, well then you're not getting away that easily! He then walked through the whole restaurant with everyone else staring at us, held his arms out, and insisted on a hug from us.

Bar and some food were quite expensive, bit inconvenient that the code that was sent was incorrect for the parking so im guessing they need to update booking.com but easily resolved we just went inside and asked and they then told us, can also hear most small and big noises from in your room which I know they cant help but as a light sleeper can be the cause of a bad night sleep so just a heads up for those people. Location is ok but high street is quite quiet

All the staff we met were helpful, courteous, and efficient. My wife appreciated the hairdryer in our room as it was powerful, unlike those in most hotels. An additional accessible power socket in the room would be helpful.

Room 4 was noisy - traffic, gulls and smokers - so that, even with earplugs in, my sleep was impacted.

• 253janettec (10/5): Wonderful care and customer service at the White Hart - I am just preparing to check out after a 2 night stay and I wantednto take the time to give the team here a huge bug up for their excellent care, attention and customer service during my stay. In particular to Andrew who was front of house and the lovely ladybwho looked after us at breakfast, their level of service was excellent. Its been a miserable week of heavy rain and high winds, but this team has been a beacon in what otherwise would have been a gloomy time. The accommodation is good and the breakfasts on offer were incredible value for money. The chef in the evenings produced some wonderful salads. It can't be easy for a winter team to keep things buzzy and professional when there aren't many guests and visitors around....and the weather is awful, but these guys were F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S! Thankyou.

• Frank (10/5): Our visit to Cornwall was made especially special because of all the kindness shown by the staff - Breakfast was very good, wonderful choices and we were able to order exactly what we wanted. All cooked and presented perfectly There was nothing we didn’t like. The attention to the welfare of the guests was perfect, always very friendly and eager to help in every way.

• Luke (2/5): - Leaving We walked in the door to check in, to be greeted by a young girl calling out ' you right' at us, this set the tone for the entire stay Our room was located outside the hotel in a dirty laneway that felt unsafe the whole time The room was small, but the bathroom was huge, so sitting in the room was unpleasant and it smelt like damp The room also had a window to the footpath and was right next to the main road, so all we could hear was cars and the people walking right past our window We had a drink in the bar, and were going to stay for dinner, except the 2 rambling local drunks at the bar talking absolute garbage at the top of the voices meant everyone in the bar and restaurant could hear. So we left and found somewhere nicer to eat Breakfast was terrible and awkward, from the older lady telling everyone that breakfast would run easier if we all turned up at the assigned times. This would be fine if the staff had actually ever asked us to choose a time, but that was never asked. So how is that our issue and why do the guests need to be casually told off for something that was actually the issue of the hotel staff not dong their job All of the breakfast was delivered to the table, so you couldn't get a 2nd coffee or juice or anything without asking, and when you did it was slow and an inconvenience, and the hotel food was small and very average. The man who works here also makes the atmosphere awkward and uncomfortable, constantly watching you, with minimal pleasant personable skills and huffing about like all the guests were an inconvenience. It was very clear he does not like his job This hotel makes the top of the list for the worst hotels in the world we have stayed at, and it was a massive disappointment
