- Ross (10/5): Super Guest House - We were absolutely thrilled to have discovered Plantation House, a charming and exceptionally welcoming guest house nestled amidst lush green gardens.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Richard, whose kindness and hospitality immediately set the tone for our stay.
We were very pleased to find freshly baked cake and fresh milk awaiting us in our room— much appreciated — along with a fresh fruit bowl and biscuits.
The room itself was immaculate and very comfortable,
In the bathroom there are White Company toiletries, a choice of vanity items, and plenty of high-quality white towels. The owners have clearly paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a truly comfortable experience.
Our breakfast the following morning was generous and thoughtfully prepared, with service that was both attentive and warm. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was offered with a genuine smile.
I highly recommend Plantation House and only regret that we couldn’t stay for a few more days.
- Philip (10/5): - All excellent, food very special.
Will come again,
- Alison (10/5): - A lovely hotel, run with care and attention to detail
- Peter (10/5): Business trip - Pleasant stay
- Peter (10/5): Very very good. - Amazing hotel. Service was exceptional. Best dinner ever
- david (10/5): - The hotel is a beautifully decorated Georgian house with all modern conveniences but still exhibiting its heritage. The room was comfortable and quiet with lovely views over fields and woodland. Both the evening meal and breakfast the next morning were delicious and of the highest standard. The staff were all friendly, polite and efficient.
Overall an excellent hotel with superb food and service.
- Peter (10/5): Lovely - Great place to stay, friendly staff
- Trevor (10/5): - Attention to detail was excellent. Food in the restaurant also excellent. Breakfast was presented well and cooked beautifully. Service was also superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back.
- Mr M (10/5): Relaxed confotable welcoming establishment - Best hotel by far, has a colonial feel, personal service was excellent. Although an excellent evening meal 3 courses for £46 may be a surprise.
- Andrew (10/5): Worthy of a visit - From the moment I walked in, I was made to feel special. Very comfortable food, excellent Broadband, some really nice touches, fresh milk, fresh fruit in room etc. I received a call in the day asking if I wanted to eat at the hotel, I had reservations spending £49 on a meal, but it was worth it. The food is of an excellent standard, breakfast just as good and would highly recommend. Next time I’m back in the area, I will come back.
- Steven (10/5): - The food and service are excellent.
You have a choice of very high standard food
- Pamela (10/5): - We had a very enjoyable stay at Plantation House. The property is beautiful and conveniently situated for travelling into Plymouth. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and our room was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely recommend.
- Garry (10/5): - We loved the hotel, it’s a lovely independent place. All the staff were very helpful & friendly, particularly a Belgian lady (didn’t get her name) the room was possibly the best we’ve ever stayed plus the food & drinks were all fab. Highly recommended!
- Jack (10/5): Last minute stay - last minute booking, Host was very accommodating and the food was excellent
- Angela (10/5): - A warm welcome, immaculate rooms,good food.
A great place to stay. Would highly recommend
- Jo (8/5): Relaxing place in the devon countryside - We had a lovely couple of nights here. Are in the restaurant one evening and had breakfast. Food was very nice, but we were surprised at the lack of vegetarian options. Thankfully I did ask for a veggie option earlier on the day. But we were rather told off for not mentioning it earlier. I think they’d do well to ask for dietary issues when you book. But overall it was lovely.
- David (10/5): An overnight stay in south Devon. - We arrived in the afternoon and were met T the door by the very friendly and helpful owner.
The hotel has nice large rooms but is small and unique.
Lovely home made food and an extensive bar just 8 tables in the tasteful restaurant giving a nice spcial atmosphere.
All in all our syay was a relaxing one.
- Edward (10/5): A Gem in South Hams - 4day break using it as a base to explore south of ermington.
A gem really both with the hotel and restaurant - fully deserving of its stars.
Shows what happens when you care and pay attention to the little details
- Jodie Nichole (10/5): - Customer service was amazing as was the food! We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely go back if visiting that area of the UK again.
- C (8/5): A pleasant two night stay. - Basically our stay was very pleasant and staff very friendly and attentive.
However the bed in our particular room was not very comfortable. Not only was the mattress too soft and lacking support but also seemed to make one’s back sweat.
We were situated at the front of the hotel and with the house close to a busy A Road was quite noisy. What didn’t help was the top sliding sash window was stuck open.
- Helen (10/5): The Plantation Is Perfect - The Plantation is an oasis of calm away from the melee of everyday life. After a busy week’s self catering at Bantham, we knew a swell was coming in & wanted to take advantage of the fantastic surfing conditions. Luckily for us The Plantation had last minute availability for one night. As someone debilitated with Long Covid, I need to plan well ahead. From the moment I emailed the hotel with questions in advance of our stay, to a member of staff bringing something we had left behind out to car as we were packing to leave, the team could not do enough to make our stay a relaxed & pleasurable one.
We booked dinner & again the service, food & ambience were perfect. The staff were attentive but also unobtrusive. It was quite the best & most relaxed meal I can remember.
Thank you to Richard & the all the team.
- David (10/5): - Very peaceful and pleasant. Food excellent
- Simon (10/5): - Excellent stay with outstanding food
- Dinah (10/5): - Had a really lovely stay. Excellent food and service.
- Jean (10/5): - Excellent hotel
- Andrew (10/5): - Fast check in. Charming hotel. Very friendly, helpful and safe.
Good breakfast and the salmon/cheese omelette (which sounds a bit unusual) was fantastic.
- Anne (10/5): Burch’s Holiday - Lovely food staff all very helpful from the start of arrival.
I’ve never been anywhere that the shower was really good and water lovely and hot.
Bathroom had all the washing creams and potions you need.
Water and fruit every day.
Evening meal was superb and displayed ala carte standards.
The beaches all around are within driving distance of 20-30 minutes.
- Anthony (10/5): Amazing food - Staff a credit to hotel. Food amazing. Room homely but bed too soft for me, i should have asked for a hard mattress, my bad. Room price a bit pricey.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A rather average hotel which does not live up to the website description.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely decor. Everything you could need was supplied in our room.
- Tracy (10/5): Very comfortable stay - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - very comfortable and top-notch delicious breakfast
Only downside was the lack of WiFi in the room, which is only an issue due to the signal in the area being weak
- Sherridon (8/5): - Room was very nice, good size with bath and shower.
- Julie (10/5): Best meal for a long time in friendly hotel - A wonderful find - very friendly welcome, room little extras like fruit bowl etc and advice for a local walk. And the dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Well worth the little extra cost.
- David (10/5): - Brilliant hotel, brilliant food & wine selection.
- M.Milward (10/5): - Exceptional quality food and presentation overall with very pleasant staff, well done and thank you! 👍
- Stephen (10/5): - fantastic staff great food rooms cosy perhaps a little upadating to window and outside furniture
- Benjamin (10/5): Lovely Boutique Hotel near Devon Village - Private, pleasant romantic retreat.
- Ian (8/5): Great Hotel - Great hotel , only 8 rooms , staff excellent.
- James (10/5): Top wack. - Excellent small hotel. Beautifully clean and tidy and very helpful staff. The restaurant was well above standard and a great deal of thought had gone into the menu. Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel and will certainly visit again the next time I am in the area. My only very small point is that it needs a bit of tlc in the garden!
- Sarah (10/5): - A warm greeting and bag carried to our room for us. We were offered home made cake on arrival which was bought to our room along with fresh milk for a cup of tea. The room was spacious, warm and spotlessly clean.
Dinner in the restaurant was outstanding, with pre dinner drinks and coffee both served in the bar area.
Breakfast freshly prepared and delicious. Overall a relaxing and excellent overnight stay. Thanks to all staff, we will definitely return.
- Timothy (10/5): Fantastic - Excellent stay - fantastic food (and wine list). Room very very comfortable and staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Service exemplary.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Well situated to visit South Hams area - Very nice hotel with excellent restuarant. Pleasant stay and nothing was too much trouble.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy B&B - Cosy B&B with lovely walks around and good breakfast. The mattress in our room (12) felt like it could do with replacing, but overall the room was comfortable.
- Wayne (10/5): Very nice - All good
- Alan (10/5): - Excellent Hotel with great food and service
- Elaine (10/5): Lovely small hotel with superb restaurant - We stayed for 4 nights at the Plantation House. The room was very comfortable, the staff were friendly, welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. Saving the best for last, the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone - and have already done so.
- Nick (10/5): Lovely country Hotel with amazing food - My wife and I had a lovely couple of days in this clean Hotel with friendly staff and the food was fabulous.
- Grahams (10/5): Every comfort - Our two nights at this hotel were very enjoyable. Our room was very stylish in design and very comfortable. The restaurant food was excellent and the staff charming and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely fabulous. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Beverley (10/5): Fabulous break. - Wonderful! Cant wait to return.
- Andrew (10/5): Brilliant little Gem - The food was lovely , I was very tired from a long day and had a very pleasant evening, the room was spacious with a nice clean and big comfortable bed , the bathroom was decorated beautifully and had both bath and shower to use . The food was cooked to perfection and breakfast the following morning I was treated to much of the same , the staff were very friendly and helpful , this is a great little getaway from it all if you want that sort of place .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely boutique hotel - A lovely welcome, great staff and fantastic food. A great find.
- Louise (8/5): Great stop off for Salcombe - We stayed for two nights - had delicious meals cooked by RIchard and his team. Emphasis is on food and great service.
- Pompeydoll (10/5): Excellent hotel - I stayed in this hotel for one evening whilst visiting friends in the area. The room was incredibly comfortable and the fruit bowl was a welcome surprise. Breakfast was excellent and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting South Devon for business or pleasure.
- Susan (10/5): Gem of a small hotel - Lovely small hotel, proprietors where more than accommodating, superb evening menu with extras that were unexpected
- Julie (10/5): Privately owned cared for hotel. - Fab breakfast, lovely location. Attention to detail is 10/10. Very welcoming. The owner takes great pride. Would stay here again and stay for dinner next time. Restaurant menu was very tempting but we already had plans.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic Hotel, great location and service and top class cooking. We would stay here again.
- PHIL (10/5): Well worth a visit - Good stay
- Jomaha (10/5): Super hotel with lovely view across the river - Great hotel with super staff and warmth.
The food is wonderful - dinner was an experience with superb choice of quality food, and breakfast was better than any hotel we have been to.
- Alan (10/5): Comfortable and quiet retreat off main routes. - Arrived much earlier than planned, but staff could not have been nicer or more welcoming - to the extent that having explained we'd have to leave early before breakfast, we were offered a light late lunch on the house !
The rooms seem to have been re-done recently. Beautifully and tastefully fitted out, with plenty of space and gratis tea/coffee along with fruit, cake and biscuits; the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom quite superb with a great sized bath and separate shower and lots of towels. The staff were polite and attentive and the chef moved around the dining room more than once during dinner. The menu was excellent with not too much choice and some excellent wines too. Plantation House is a real gem and I'd recommend it to friends and have done so already.
- Martin (10/5): A welcoming and very comfortable place to stay. - I had a warm welcome by Richard, who made me feel very much at home and a welcome guest.
- Jeanette (10/5): Hotel close to Plymouth - Lovely hotel set in a small village, very comfortable, lovely food & very helpful staff. We were meeting some friends in Plymouth so it was in an ideal place close enough to get Plymouth but not in the middle of all the hustle & bustle,a very relaxing & pleasant place to stay, would definitely recommend.
- The Burnells (10/5): Hotel has a beautiful location with excellent food - Well worth the visit, fab location and lovely country hotel. The restaurant is worth a visit as great local food cooked to perfection.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - a little overpriced for what it is. - We enjoyed our stay at the Plantation House. The location is very nice and quite rural. We had room 24 which is at the back of the building and looked out over a field with a few horses in. We used up our free rewards night here but I'm not sure I would have been happy to pay the full price for the room. It was perfectly nice and clean but wasn't anything really special and the room wasn't all that big. There was tea/coffee hot chocolate etc and we were given a small pot of fresh milk and a slice of cake when we arrived which was a nice touch. Sadly we weren't able to eat in the restaurant as it was booked but the breakfast was way above a 'normal' English Breakfast so I imagine the dinner is also very good. It had some nice tables/chairs in the garden out the front which would be nice to sit in good weather and enjoy, sadly it rained when we were here though.
- Paul (10/5): Best hotel restaurant in Devon and Cornwall - A wonderful place, the owner/chef is really charming, welcoming, friendly. Lovely bar. Terrace. Waiting staff attentive, not intrusive, well trained. Dinner and breakfast were lovely. Decoration, style, really clean, way better than any hotel in Devon or Cornwall. Highly recommended.
