Guest Reviews
- lisa (4/5): Room with a view only - Self catering.. limited items in the kitchen. Room to far from the inn to get WiFi. No TV signal and not advertised until we asked how to use the TV. Because no WiFi then can't set up netflix etc . Great views though but wouldn't stay more than 1 night
- Peter (8/5): - nice kitchenette, very good breaky
- Pfurtscheller (10/5): - Very friendly and welcoming.
- Thomas (10/5): - We received communication detailing where to go to check in and other vital info. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was great, food was good. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable. The location is safe. My husband and I were only there one night and were super satisfied. Absolutely recommend.
- Angela (4/5): - Austere hosts and very very basic equipment for self catering. Not at all homely
- Chris (10/5): - Really nice property , staff were great over all just a nice stay
- Bridin (10/5): - The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Lovely view over the loch. The owners are friendly and hospitable. Breakfast was very good. All in all a great stopover.
Great value. I’d definitely stay again.
- Victoria (10/5): - This was a great find. The owners were very welcoming, warm and friendly. The evening meals were super. I can recommend the venison burger, chilli and scampi.
Room was lovely. Bed very comfy.
- Sara (10/5): - A lovely welcome. Clean, comfortable accommodation. Excellent facilities in the rooms. Great evening meal. Amazing views and very peaceful. Would thoroughly recommend and would definitely return.
- Matthew (8/5): - Clean property. Quite location.
- S (10/5): - Beautiful quiet location very friendly owners
- Brandy (10/5): - The views around the motel were stunning. The rooms were clean, cozy and comfy! And the food at the restaurant were first rate!
- David (6/5): - Kitchen and bathroom was very basic. Television did not work properly, no microwave dishes poor range of pans no oven. No surfaces in shower room to put toiletries
- Brian (10/5): The Dalton Gang hit the Altnacealgach Motel - We were on tour round old memories of Scotland and very much in transit at this point. Our reception and service was 10 out of 10 including the catering. The location is so pretty and the site well presented and a small calm oasis in our hectic journey round Scotland.
- Martha (10/5): Best place in Scotland - This was the best hotel of our two-week trip in Scotland. We loved Craig and Sue—they were so friendly and nice. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful, with great views beyond the property. We really liked that the hotel is so far away from any town. And we loved the porridge for breakfast!
- leanne (8/5): Pretty view - Beautiful location but very quiet, not much around. Bring a book, tv barely works and no internet in the rooms.
Great to have a pub next door, limited menu
- Kenneth (10/5): - Very friendly and nice people
- Joomi (2/5): - We booked via Expedia where there was no mention that you can't check in after 9pm. We got there at 9:30pm. The woman working there very rudely informed me that check in time was at 9. I apologized PROFUSELY but she remained ANGRY and rude. She said something about various notices having mentioned the check in time. I told her I had not seen it. I specifically avoided booking any airbnbs because of issues like this, and because this was a "motel" I figured we would be ok to check in so long as it wasn't that late. Like I said, we arrived at 9:30pm, which for any "motel" would be reasonable. But the main point is that this was an honest mistake on my part but she remained rude.
After she gave the key to our room, after about 30 seconds, my husband went back to the office to ask a question but she did not open the door.
On top of that, she never gave us any wifi information (it was not written somewhere in the room). Instead, there is a sign telling you rules like where to put your shoes, instructions for what to do at checkout, that checkout is at 10am, etc. In other words, just more unfriendliness.
The room itself was clean except there was a big spider web with a spider, in the doorway to the bathroom.
Also, at certain times of the day the swarms of biting midges attack (a problem in the Highlands at certain hours). We couldn't open the window for that reason and of course no AC or fan, so it was stuffy.
Horrible stay.
- Robert (10/5): - Very welcoming, Sue and Craig were great hosts and did everything to make my stay relaxed and enjoyable, I only had one night unfortunately, as I was on a tight schedule.
- david (10/5): - I was much taken by the general cosiness engendered by both the appointments and the proprietor/trix. The cleanliness of the room will satisfy those of the most fastidious nature and the food, whilst simple, was most excellently prepared and presented. It was a pleasure to discourse in the bar with the proprietor(s) whose range of interests and experiences made for excellent company. It is my true hope that circumstances will lead me to stay again.
- Sharon (10/5): Beautiful place to stay - From the moment we checked in we felt at home. The hosts are a lovely couple. The room was spotless and very comfortable.
The little pub next to the ge rooms also owned by the motel hosts is gorgeous. The food was also amazing.
Just 20 mins outside ullapool.
The landscape is beautiful where the property is situated.
We can't wait to come back.
Thank you for a lovely stay
- Anne (10/5): Room with a view - Lovely self catering accommodation, well stocked kitchen, fold up tables and comfy bed. B & B available. Bar and restaurant with very friendly owner.
Fantastic view across the loch
- Nalin (4/5): - NA
- Imad (10/5): - This is a great place to stay, and I would definitely visit again.
- catherine (10/5): - Exactly what we needed, quiet and comfortable place to break our long journey. Added bonus of a lovely view of the Loch and deer on the other side.
- Michelle (8/5): - Beautiful setting, the food in the evening was excellent. Lovely clean rooms, with stunning view over the loch
- Sally (8/5): - Clean and simple, no WiFi in the room and tv reception poor. Minor road right in front but views of lake were lovely
- michael (10/5): Lovely little place to stop - Stunning location and room was immaculately clean. We ate at the pub next door which is the same owner as the hotel, food was excellent.
The only small criticism (and it didn’t really bother us because it was only a one night stay) is that there only seemed to be two channels we could get on Tv and no WiFi connection in room , so we couldn’t access Netflix
- Vicki (2/5): - Very cold unfriendly staff didnt want to know us, and nothing worked in the room, no tv or fan/heater, noisy, not allowed wifi in room, jesus we paid enough, felt very ripped off here, used, not friendly scottish people they were different
- Laurence (10/5): - Great motel just in front of a loch. Stunning views. Pub next door where you can have dinner. Very friendly owners. Superb room, incredibly clean and well appointed. Out of the way but that is exactly what we wanted. Would love to visit again.
- Seth (10/5): - Only a few rooms, quiet and peaceful in a beautiful location with wonderful hosts, kitchen, views, and a nice pub. Extraordinarily delicious, simple fare, made in house. Beyond reasonably priced.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Very clean motel in a beautiful setting. We were a little late in checking in but owner was very gracious and helpful. Food good.
- Michelle (10/5): - We loved our time here. Beautiful setting. Great hosts.
- Steven (10/5): Altnacealgach Motel and Inn - Very beautiful setting. Small property run by a warm, friendly and accommodating couple who run it entirely by themselves. Clean, spacious, simple and modern accommodation in motel-style rooms overlooking the loch with some facilities to self-cater or you can eat in their small Inn next door (we did the latter. It only seats 12 so booking is essential, all in the conservatory with the lovely loch to look at). The menu is limited (understandably) but there are some pub favourites on there, burgers, chilli etc. You can also get a good hot breakfast with various options in the Inn. Quite reasonable compared to other establishments in the area. Located just off the NC500 route. You're staying on a remote Scottish loch so pack your midgie spray!
- Jane (6/5): - Friendly greeting by hostess on arrival.
Comfortable room with adequate facilities.
Inconvenient to have to go to the bar to connect to WiFi especially as the bar was not always open and host most unhelpful.
- Graeme (10/5): - Easy to locate, check in and room good. View looked across the loch and was very quiet and tranquil. Pub was relaxed and friendly and dinner overlooking the loch was very nice. Watch out for the midgies at dusk !!
- Rachel (10/5): - The location of the motel was beautiful. The cleanliness was outstanding and the hists were especially friendly amd accomodating
- Claire (8/5): - Pleasant comfortable stay.
Hosts accomodated our late arrival & adjusted our pre booked dinner time hassle free as we were running later than expected.
Dinner & breakfast were good. The porridge was excellent
Good Coffee
No wifi in our accomodation area. Poor reception for mobile device too.
Good for a complete switch off, but if you are looking to plan ahead in the evening, call family or need to work not ideal. Unless you use the inn
Overall a great stay & would return
- noreen (10/5): - Lovely unit with everything you might need. Beautiful lake opposite with view from window.
Nice restaurant and pub next door.
- Corinne (8/5): - One night stop over - lovely place
- Bob (10/5): Great place to stay on NC500! - Quiet and secluded place on the NC500. The owners are lovely people who run a tight ship and great pub / breakfast. The stay was amazing and one of our favorites as we ended our tour of Scotland.
- Suzan (10/5): - Everything about our stay was wonderful!!! Our rooms were beautiful, clean and very comfortable. The staff were very nice and responded promptly to my e-mail.
- Isla (8/5): - It was very good. I liked the motel.
- S (10/5): Priceless view from the window. - I loved that place. Very quiet natural spot at the front of the lake. Perfect place to relax, think, calm down and charge you personal batteries. The view from the window is priceless. I couldn't stop looking through the window. This are my personal feelings.
We were there just one night but was enough to rest and feel better to go in further trip.
The room had everything what we needed, very comfy bed.
The host are very nice. We've booked reservation for evening meal in restaurant and we had venison cheeseburger with adds and leek and potato soup made by lady owner. Yummy. I've never had soo tasty soup.
- Linda (8/5): - To be honest, the description "motel" had filled me with some trepidation. It was unnecessary. The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. The owners were very helpful responding to queries I had pre-visit about accessibility and food options for a coeliac.
I would recommend this place.
- John (8/5): Overnight in Altnacealgach. - Lovely quiet location in an area where it is difficult to find a place. Not too expensive, room was clean and fairly well organised, enough facilities to cook a meal and plenty of hot water for showering. Good views across the loch. No minuses apart from the weather, parking at rear outside the room so car was close at hand. All in, I’d give a respectable 88/100. Heating was a bit challenging to get to work but once on it kept me toasty.
- Paul (10/5): - Very clean friendly staff fantastic view from window
- Lesley (10/5): - AMAZING, Sue & Craig made check in easy and friendly, We enter through the conservatory which is the dining area, it was clean and bright with a small nice selection of evening food, this lead into a small bar with a dart board and pool table again a good variety of drinks.
Back outside to the rooms, you have your own parking bay to the rear of the building.
The room itself was a good size with a small kitchenette, it was bright airy and spotless clean. There were two chairs infront the window which look out onto the loch with amazing views.
Im so glad we found this little place absolutely loved it
- Ian (10/5): Amazing motel. - The whole stay was perfect from start to finish.
- Frances (8/5): - Everything was OK. Clean, neat, well kept. If anything I felt value for the money we paid may not be there.
- John (10/5): - Excellent location with all the facilities you would need for self catering or eating in the restaurant.
Very clean with very friendly owners.
- Noel (10/5): Excellent - The rooms are excellent and have full self catering facilities, considering the remoteness of the location it is definitely worth stocking up on some supplies before arriving. Overall happy with our stay with the only slight drawback being the meal and bar times are a little restrictive but I can understand why.
- Pascal (10/5): - Perfect little slice of Scottish Highlands hospitality.
- Elaine (10/5): - Great views of the Loch. Well located for NC500 road trip,
- d (10/5): Stunning - Beautiful location overlooking the loch and the staff were very friendly.
- John (10/5): - The landlords (Sue and Craig) were exceptional hosts … the property is located in an amazing location … the surrounding area is full of interesting activities … and if the weather cooperates, the dark sky star watching is truly amazing … we will definitely visit again , and would whole heartedly recommend this place … a great visit 10 out of 10 …
- Greg (10/5): - Sue and Craig were great hosts
- Barbara (10/5): - Everything was absolutely perfect, beautiful setting with views of the water, beds were really comfy and slept really well , it was just so peaceful.
We had dinner & breakfast in the Inn next door and the food was all perfectly cooked and cooked to order, I can highly recommend the Venison burger which was so tasty, my Son had the Chilli and he said it was the best chilli he had ever eaten.
Our room was well equipped , very clean and we had views of the water which was lovely to wake up to. There was seating outside which was a bonus to sit and view the stars at night. We couldn't fault our stay and we will definitely come back next year and spend more time here. Our hosts obviously work extremely hard to make sure their guests have a relaxing stay. Thankyou so much and look forward to staying with you for longer in 2025
- Robert (8/5): - Lovely setting, very friendly couple running the motel. Catered for my dietary needs whist dining in the inn showing lots of concern and checking/double checking food types were suitable for me.
- Keith (8/5): - Arriving after dark (20.30)we were disappointed that there was no food available and the bar was closing. We had been sent an email but as we were travelling it wasn't read. The accommodation was pleasant, roomy, clean and comfortable. On opening the curtains in the morning we were very pleasantly surprised by views that could be confused with a dream. It is magnificent. The breakfast was good and the patrons friendly and helpful
- Andrew (8/5): - Good for a 1 night stop over
- Michael (10/5): - Great basic larger motel room for a night or more. Good breakfast, nice staff, and a fantastic view of loch right across the road.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Great place to stay! Very clean and the owner was extremely nice and helpfu!
- Alasdair (10/5): - Lovely quiet area. Nice clean room. Would definitely recommend
- Shirley (10/5): - Perfect location
- Tony (8/5): Rudeness, but otherwise ok - Upon arrival almost verbally abused by the proprietor for taking a wrong turn. Also overcharged for hot water to go with an espresso.
Otherwise clean and comfortable.
Perhaps the proprietors are new to hospitality or that they have a thing or to to learn about a welcome and greeting
- Karen (8/5): - Great place to stop on our travels , everything you need
- Brian (10/5): - the quiet and calm
- Bonnie (10/5): - The couple who ran the motel were friendly and warm and shared local info. The room was bright with a small modern kitchenette. Evening meal and breakfast were great especially as there was no local options. There was a nice cosy bar.
- roland (10/5): - Grest little motel and fantastic location. Staff really friendly and helpful.
- Amit (8/5): - Nice and clean Property
- Michael (10/5): One night stay. - Nice friendly motel which is run by a lovely couple , the facilities are very good for self catering and the restaurant /pub next-door does a lovely evening meal and has a good selection of drnks.
Super veiw over the loch and plenty of parking .
Would definitely stay there again.
- Morag (8/5): - Lovely spacious rooms, clean and practical.
The bar next door offers food and we, 5 of us all enjoyed our meal, the breakfast next day was also very good.
Good value for money and run by a lovely couple who were very attentive and helpful
- SIMON (10/5): - A great stop over for a few nights on tge NC500. Perfect location for exploring the area. Lovely hosts and so nice to have a pub to come home to each night. Self catering facilities were perfect for us. Thanks for a lovely stay
- lucinda (10/5): - What a wonderful place. Highly recommend. Beautiful setting, newly refurbished, excellent food. Next to a gorgeous lake in the Highlands. Simple but sweet rooms with a kitchenette and refrigerator. WiFi is unreliable except in from of the restaurant. The water pump in our room was loud. I wish we had booked it for a longer stay because the remote location was very peaceful. Great little pub too!
- Derek (8/5): Nice place and location. - Stayed for two nights,a nice place to stay.
Although the room is set up for self catering which has all the basic essentials we had evening meal at the pub/restaurant next door. The food and selection is not great, but the owners are nice.
Had a drink in the bar, which had a good selection of draft beers and spirits.
Overall we had a nice stay, but such a pity the dinner menu was very poor.
If you like burgers that’s fine with tinned soup off the supermarket shelf.
We would still return for another stay in the future as it’s in a lovely setting with nice owners.
- kim (10/5): - Great remote location n opposite the lake
Only wifi in bar area as no reception
Fully equipped kitchen with washing up liquid provided
Cosy accomodation
- Sheela (10/5): - We stayed in the self catering rooms. These were well equipped with fridge freezer, microwave and other relevant equipment. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The bed was a little small but very comfortable. The hotel has a restaurant and bar. The bar closes at 9pm breakfast also available if booked in advance the night before. The hotel.looks out onto a Loch and is very quiet and peaceful. We slept really well. Id definitely go back for a longer stay.
- Susan (10/5): - Very quiet remote location which was beautiful and peaceful. The hosts were friendly and welcoming.
- Annalisa (10/5): - The property was clean and tidy. The owner were also really welcoming and food at the restaurant was nice. A peaceful hidden gem.
- J (10/5): What a location! - Lovely location, had a beautiful night when we stayed. Stars over the 'private' Loch, absolutely amazing.
Rooms were spacious and well equipped. Easy parking. Breakfast was great and the hosts were happy to have a chat.
Would return in a heartbeat.
- Chloe (8/5): - Welcoming staff and very helpful. Room a bit dated but clean. Nice to have the kitchenette area. We had a good stop over on our travels. Would happily return.
- Pieter (10/5): - This is an amazing place to stay next to a beautiful lake. It has a nice bar and food in the restaurant is amazing. Well worth a stay
- Claudia (10/5): - Nice hotel in front of a lake. Clean and up to date
- Stewart (6/5): Great facility, poor service. - Great facilities - our room (seated area /kitchen space) and the bar area where we enjoyed relaxing with the lovely view. During this time we talked about returning in future. However our experience at check out has changed our minds. We would have enjoyed our stay more if check in was more friendly. It was straight to the point and curt which is ok but did make it less welcoming. Later, at the bar we had a much nicer experience when having a drink in the presence of the staff. Check out was a very negative and uncomfortable experience. We were aware that check out was 10am. At 1003 staff knocked our door. In a curt and patronising way the staff member tapped her wrist and said “checkout was 10am and we are waiting on you” while pointing at cleaning equipment. No issue with staff checking we were ready to leave but the way it was done was heavy handed. At 1008 the same staff member again knocked and said “come on guys it’s well after 10”. We understand that we were a little late but at this time one of us was in the bathroom. We were also visibly in the process of getting ready to leave (one of us transporting bags to car). During 1003-1008 the member of staff was sitting outside close to our room waiting for us to leave. This felt intimidating and one us felt nervous running back to the room to check if we had left anything behind. Staff were understandably keen to clean the room but we felt that 3- 8 minutes past check in was not unreasonable.
- Kevin (2/5): - We had a flat tire on our way to the hotel delaying us 7 hours consequently we arrived after reception closed. As arranged they left the rooms open for us. They wrote a long note with details for check in and check out. No instructions on how to make the showers work. The next morning when I ask the lady told me we arrived late and had we been on time she would have told us. When i suggested a simple sign in the bathroom on how to use the shower, her comment was “I am not getting into it”. Rude and dismissive. We waited for the dining room to open, other guest were also waiting, eventually we tried the door and it was open. They told us they leave the “Closed” sign on so passing trade does not come in. We left and found food elsewhere. No wifi and no cellular signal. I am disputing the charges for the room, next stay here, terrible place. STAY AWAY.
- Ard (10/5): - Not many dining opportunities arouns, but dining at the motel itself is very good!
- Brian (8/5): - Beautiful area very nice views all aroun perfect for the nature lover
- Jennifer (6/5): - No access to your room until 3pm. So if you are travelling make sure you don't arrive before then, as you will have to wait around.
Also there is no internet only in the hotel.
- Richard (10/5): - Great motel in an absolutely stunning location. The food was clean and comfortable and had a fridge and 2 jobs if you wanted to cook for yourself. I ate at their pub and the food was hot and delicious.
- Jeanette (10/5): - Wow what a little gem, views fantastic, room excellent, food superb and hosts great. You couldn’t want more.
Lovely motel set in a remote area but it’s worth it as it was 5 star
- cin (8/5): - /
- Pamela (10/5): - It was a nice place to stay. Very quiet
- richard (8/5): - Excellent views of loch and countryside fom bedroom. Only drawbacks were poor mobile connection. Had to phone outside near loch and possibly getting wet going from room to restaurant. Good facilities in kitchen area and good dying facility
- Simon (10/5): - lovely rooms and tranquil surroundings
bed soft and comfortable
place very clean and modern
- Sharon (8/5): - Room was lovely, food choices were limited to just burgers and closed at 9pm which is quite early
- Mark (6/5): - Comfortable self catering
No internet access apart from in bar area
Very good service
Good base to explore
- Gillian Dawn (8/5): - Very nice room, friendly owner. Would stay again
- Stuart (10/5): - The property is set in a tranquil area opposite a lodge. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Steffen (8/5): Nice stay, modern clean rooms, dinner so so - All was to our satisfaction as far as the accommodation goes. We also dined with the Motel and had higher hopes for some good home cooking - those weren’t quite met but the food wasn’t bad either. Just not really something special and home cooked. A bit on the pricier side also for what was offered, but I guess location, location, location…
