The staff were welcoming and provided great service and the restaurant was excellent. The breakfast was one of the best if our 10 week trip. Our suite had a sofa and 2 balconies which was lovely to have. The location is just beautiful and close to all the "action" while being a bit quieter. On-site parking was a bonus. We loved our stay at Porto Veneziano and highly recommend it. Nothing

• 569kathyc (10/5): First class stay! - Our honeymoon stay at Hotel Porto Veneziano in November 2025 was absolutely unforgettable. Uli with Dolphin Hellas Travel arranged everything perfectly for us. The view of the Old Venetian Harbor was breathtaking — peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly romantic. The hotel itself was quiet, welcoming, and so accommodating. It’s also within easy walking distance to all the shopping and wonderful port restaurants, which made exploring so easy and enjoyable. What truly sets this hotel apart is their integrity and customer care. During our stay, we discovered a wallet had been left in our transfer in Santorini. It was shipped and arrived at the hotel the day after we had already departed. The staff went above and beyond to ensure the safe return of over $700 USD. They worked tirelessly with DHL — even navigating complications with U.S. processing — to make sure the funds were securely deposited back into our account. To say I trust Hotel Porto Veneziano would be an understatement. Their breakfast is absolutely amazing with so many delicious options, and the service is impeccable. Angeliki and Maria — thank you! You are truly the best front desk team. We eagerly await our return to Chania and Hotel Porto Veneziano!

Das haben wir sehr genossen, da wir beide nebenbei noch etwas arbeiten mussten. Die zentrale Lage am Hafen war top. Fussläufig in die Stadt und zu allen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Das Frühstück war super. Cappuchino mit Mandelmilch :-). Mit Schranke geschlossener Parkplatz beim Hotel ist mit Mietwagen sehr komfortabel. Die Damen an der Rezeption waren sehr freundlich und gaben Tipps zum Abendessen oder für Strandempfehlung. Wir haben uns rundherum wohlgefühlt und können das Hotel weiterempfehlen. alles super
• SusanA238 (10/5): Delighted beyond expectations - We booked our three night stay here on the back of the Tripadvisor reviews and loved every minute of it (we actually wanted to stay longer but there was no availability, even though we’d booked more than six months in advance). We stayed in room 104, a twin room, and although it was on the small side, it was fabulous with lovely comfortable beds and a cute little balcony overlooking the gorgeous harbour. The ensuite was excellent with a large walk-in shower. A slight niggle is that there were few hangers in the wardrobe and very little drawer / shelf space but this didn’t detract from our love of the hotel in any way. Breakfast really was outstanding, with an amazing array of buffet items as well as hot food that was cooked to order. Not only was there an extensive choice but the quality of the food was tip top and would not have been out of place in many 5* hotels. As the weather was lovely and warm, we ate outside every morning and it was blissful to just sit and admire the beautiful harbour whilst indulging in a delicious breakfast. Waiting staff were excellent, efficient, helpful and so friendly, unlike the reception staff who were a mixed bunch when it came to customer service. Although check-in was fine, some of the male front of house staff displayed a lack of interest in helping with any questions we had, with one member of staff actually telling us that ‘Google’ could assist with our queries which was a surprising, and poor, response to guests. However, there was one female member of staff (sorry, can’t remember her name) who was particularly helpful and very pleasant. We hired a car for the two weeks we spent in Crete and parking in Chania was certainly a challenge, as the city is busy and has some narrow streets. However, the hotel has its own parking, which is a bonus, although it’s quite tight and spaces cannot be reserved. Overall, we loved Chania and we adored Porto Veneziano. Answering the question of whether we would stay here again, it’s a resounding ‘yes’! We really did have a truly memorable stay.

You can sit outside for breakfast and staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Our original room was a bit small, we were able to upgrade and pay slightly more.

Wide choice at breakfast. The hotel is a member of the Greek Breakfast programme of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels. Designed to highlight local specialties and quality products, Greek Breakfast offers visitors an authentic taste of regional Greek flavors. Nothing major but not 5 stars as housekeeping let it down. Would stay again if we return to Chania

• CmkAtl (8/5): Solid Hotel - The hotel is in a perfect spot for exploring Old Town Chania. It is at one end of the port, so not too noisy. We splurged on a sea view room, which we loved. The hotel is fine looking, not luxurious. The bed is fine, although our mattress should probably be replaced soon. The pillows were fine. The bathroom has plenty of hot water, but the water pressure was somewhat lacking. I have thick hair, so it took some time to rinse out the shampoo. The bathroom products are heavily scented, which I do not like. The shower is inside the tub, so if mobility is a problem, do not stay here. The tub is very high off the ground and slippery. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. The breakfast buffet is very good.

From the exterior it looks like an ugly block that should never have been dumped in such a site but when it was built it was deemed the best use for a bomb-site. We have been visiting Chania since 1964 (yes, we are ancient) and have been regulars at this hotel for the last quarter century, having stayed in about 17 other establishments in Chania over the years (The hotel was not even built when first we visited). We love it. It is closely managed by the owner; the standards are high; and the staff are superb. Breakfast is rightly famous there but a more recent development has been fine dining . We last stayed in May 2025 and had two dinners there. The meals were simply superb. If, after a day's exploring Western Crete you do not feel the impulse to go out again and try to find somewhere to eat - and there are a myriad of places ot eat in Chania of every type a standard - then you will not be disappointed by the freshly-cooked delicious dishes on offer in the hotel.
