• Rebecca (9/5): It exceeded my expectations and I would stay again - I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. I chose the cheapest room and read some reviews that said too noisy, dog barking etc. I'm quite a sensitive sleeper and was feeling v burned out so i was worried. But the room was great, the bed was big, private bathroom, fridge, and it really wasnt too noisy at all. I slept very well. The pool and outside area are super lovely too. Lot's of beautiful flowers and birds. It's all v clean and accessible. I wanted the jacuzzi - didnt realise it was only for a private room, but the pool space was 100%great anyways so it didnt matter. I used the lil outdoor kitchen too which I was grateful for. I was really happy with my stay here. The lamp in my room didnt work so I used my phone torch to read with at night bc the main light was bright. But it reeeeaally wasnt a big deal.

• Robert (6/5): It was barely OK, I wouldn’t stay there again because of the noise - Location was good. The view from our balcony looking east was exceptionally good. We were in room five and it was very noisy and we had to sleep with all doors and windows shut at night, making it very hot and stuffy. The side street has motorcycles and lots of trucks making it rather unpleasant.

• Garry (7/5): Nice Boutque Hotel - Location was excelent. very walkable and close to all needs,resturants and shopping. Taxis are convienient and available.the area is safe and quiet. Close to the beach was also nice. Water pressure wasnt great. No water one afternoon was not good at all.

The staff were friendly, and there was always someone at the door at night for security. We felt very safe walking here at night. The pool and pool area were clean and in good repair. The toilet was unreliable: the chain frequently got caught, so it wouldn't flush or would run water until we adjusted it. There is road noise from the nearby restaurants and people walking by, but we got used to it.

Excellent restaurants along the quiet one lane street. 3 minute walk to one of the 4 beaches in ZIH Taxi stand next to the hotel. Pharmacy on the corner. 8 minute walk to downtown 10 minute walk to major grocery store. 3 minute walk to the central open air market which also has a wide variety of inexpensive clothing stores…Medical Clinics.

We had to purchase 2 small plates, 2 forks and a knife to cut out fruit that we purchased. We left these in the room for the next guest.

• Love (6/5): Don't try to visit with your family at this property!!! - Hotel Villas Mercedes is located in a central, but not too busy part of town. It is a short and very pleasant walk to the beach. There is a coffee cafe on the corner called Cafe Caracol that has great coffee and some take-home goodies like Mexican vanilla, local sea salt, coffee beans. Delicious. We rented the two largest rooms available, one on the ground floor facing the pool, which was like a small apartment and one upstairs with a cold soaking tub on the balcony. Both rooms were lovely and met all of our expectations. The value was good for what we paid. The outdoor kithcen space and refrigerator were also nice to have by the pool. My family was treated terribly by the staff and management of Hotel Villas Mercedes. For this reason, we will never return to the this property and we will tell everyone we know what happened there. Hotel Villas Mercedes racially profiled certain members of my family and made them leave the property. How we know it was based on race was that the white-presenting members of our family entered and left the property without incident. It was only when the more melanated members of our family came to visit us that the issue began. When the brown-skinned people showed up, we were immediately alerted of a sign above the lobby desk that reads, "Hotel Villas Mercedes is reserved for registered guests only". I have stayed in hotels all over this planet and I have never, ever, been told who I can have up to my room, or who might come swim with me. Obviously, you can't rent a hotel room and throw a big party. I understand that. That is not what we were doing. Firstly, two adults and two children who were using the pool (and they were the ONLY people using the pool: not bothering a soul) were removed from the pool and told to leave. When I wanted to add them to my reservation, or pay a day fee to host them, I was told no. Then I said, "Well, I will just bring the family up to my room and the little girls can use the cold tub on the private balcony that I paid for. I was told no, none of them could go to my room. I brought another family member, fluent in Spanish, to talk to the manager so we could make some sort of civilized arrangement. The manager looked us in the faces and said that the people I was bringing into the hotel might be there to steal from the other guests. We were very insulted. However, when my white skinned daughter, who was not a registered guest walked in and out of the hotel, went to the pool: not a word. When our darker skinned, Spanish speaking family arrived, suddenly we might be stealing, and we need to leave. We will never be back.

Property is very nice, clean and the friendly guests we met were mostly repeat long term guests which says a lot. Nicely appointed kitchenette. Would stay here again and would recommend to friends. We stayed for two nights in room 9 which is on street side. The first night was very noisy and difficult to sleep however 2nd night, a Sunday, was perfectly quiet. Consider bringing ear plugs just in case and eye mask if you prefer a dark room.

Taxi station is just around the corner with is very convenient. The room was lovely and clean, simple. Everything was clean, check in was easy. SUCH a delightful stay and would recommend - excellent value! There is some vehicles that rumble through in the evening but it's to be expected for the location. Couldn't work out how to get the air con to the perfect setting but we were grateful to have it!

Situated on a quaint local street, the location offers convenient access to La Madera Beach. While not in the center, the street is bustling with restaurants and bars, providing a perfect escape from the daily crowds. The pool area is charming, and the yard offers a peaceful retreat. Whether unwinding by the pool or exploring nearby attractions, there's plenty to enjoy. The staff were exceptional—warm, friendly, and accommodating. The hotel's proximity to a taxi station and minibusses made transportation effortless. Throughout our six-day stay, we encountered nothing but positive experiences and good vibes. Highly recommended!
