Guest Reviews
- Hernan (10/5): - Nice
- Ricardo (10/5): - Close to shoping and restaurants. Good service
- Jose (10/5): - Very good
- Prakash (8/5): - Very good service from attentive staff, parked my car for me at night, bar open 24 hrs for drinks and snacks, close to nightlife and restaurants, and in a very quiet and safe zone.
- NPSTER (10/5): Will not disappoint - Want to experience local atmosphere and culture this is the hotel to stay. Located in a residential area and very easy to wak to the la 70 which has great restaurants and night live.
Check in was very efficient room we had was very spacious. Breakfast was good, and if you get bored there are several small cafe/ restaurants were you can grap somethin to eat.
With all this acitvity nearby you can still get a great night sleep thanks to th a/c in the room
- Alexander (8/5): - Great affordable hotel and centrally located in Laureles.
- Sylvain (10/5): Wonderful stay - Well located, clean and very friendly staff. The price of the room is well worth the stay. I highly recommend this place
- Alexander (8/5): Affordable with great value - This hotel is the place to stay in Laureles. It is affordable with great value. The staff is very helpful with professionalism. Great location with easy access to all the nice restaurants and fun places in the city. The facility is always clean and well kept. Breakfast is decent.
- alpay (10/5): Super clean room - Friendly staff & super clean room & secured facility & good breakfast &
- John (10/5): - Had a nice weeklong stay here. Room had nice view and was very clean. Even though it faced the street I slept well and I'm a very light sleeper. Comfortable full size bed (my room) and mini fridge. 2 minute walk to supermarket and several cafes. Only minor thing was the occasional elevator noise. Fantastic stay!
- omy (10/5): - Todo muy bien excelente servicio
- Grace (10/5): - The best location in the city. Excellent service and beautiful hotel!
- Alexander (10/5): - Using this property back after a couple of years back. Safe neighborhood lots of typical food property condition is good
- JANE (10/5): - Great location, lots of restaurant choices close by. All the staff were awesome, so kind and professional. One criticism, very few power outlets for charging in the room
- Anne (10/5): - My stay at this property exceeded my expectations. Every interaction I had with the staff was met with a "can do" attitude. For example, I was unable to go on a tour to Lake Guatape due to
the taxi driver not finding the tour bus. When I returned to the hotel and shared what had occurred, they immediately booked a similar tour (with hotel pick up) based on my availability. That's outstanding service for a guest to receive and one of the many reasons why I will be returning.
I found the hotel to be located in a quiet area of Laureles within a short walk to an area with nightlife activities for those who are interested. A grocery store is right around the corner. A reasonable amount of restaurants are within walking distance or a short taxi ride which is very inexpensive.
I stayed for a week and went on amazing adventures every day......some on tours and some solo. As woman traveling alone, I never felt
uncomfortable or unsafe.
So, I highly recommend staying here.
It's a great hotel AND location for springboarding off on adventures of your choosing.
- Christopher (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was excellent. The communication between the staff and myself ensured that my trip went well. The facility is centrally located within walking distance to nearby restaurants, shops and stores. The room cleanliness and accommodations went above my expectations for the price. I would definitely recommend staying here, and intend to revisit the property on future visits.
- MariaElena1880 (10/5): Super vacation - My mom and I visited Medellin, we stay for two weeks in this hotel. Very clean, nice people, delicious food, staff very friendly . Good location. I love this hotel. I left my wallet by mistake in the bed and I found hours later with all my documents and money after they clean my room. I really impress.
- Melania (10/5): - Excelente servicio, gente muy amable.
- Lorraine (8/5): - The hotel was conveniently located near the metro , restaurants, park . The rooms were always clean . The lobby had a outside front patio which was perfect to have a drink at night . The only negative was the complementary breakfast was the same daily eggs , toast , fruit .
- Mario (10/5): - Stay was amazing. Staff was always available and very accommodating.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is clean, central, quiet and very accessible.
- luzMontoya (10/5): - The best hotel, super clean, they all making you feel like home, everyone is super kind and friendly. Definitely the best hotel in medellin, can't wait togo back
- colin (8/5): Helpful and friendly staff, nice modern rooms - We had a lovely stay here. The front desk staff were really amazing! In our experience, there was always someone there who spoke english which was helpful for us with our broken, limited spanglish. They helped us book a tour and arrange airport transport, give us info on sightseeing around the city. The location is awesome. Close to a bunch of restaurants and bars, transit, and felt safe. Room was modern and clean, and a super comfy bed! I would definitely stay here again!
- Robinson (10/5): - Excellent
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect stay in Medellin! - Incredible experience here during my stay in Medellin! I had planned to change hotels to be closer to Spanish classes I was taking in the Poblado neighborhood, but changed back to this hotel. Wonderful, welcoming, helpful peopl, from the front desk to morning breakfast staff. Room very comfortable (great bed and pillows), very clean, AC, fridge. In a quiet, safe neighborhood right across from a church. Grocery and banks up the street. About a 12-min walk from the Estadio metro station. Walk is down a fairly busy street, which is a plus if you arrive alone at night (I was a solo traveler). I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed staying at this friendly and affordable hotel. Not many English-speaking foreigners in this neighborhood, a plus if you are trying to learn Spanish. Great morning buffet breakfast. Thank you to Maria, Natalia, Diego, and everyone at the hotel for such a great stay!
- Ulrik (8/5): Nice place - and great value for money! - Very friendly staff! Nice breakfast. Clean rooms. Recommendable!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I think they over charge on extra services,, And I believe they’re not very honest on extra services
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the location, the staff went benond their duties to help. It is a good deal for the price
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent service. Amazing staff. Always helpful and accommodating.
- Rolf (10/5): Try this one in Medellín - Friendly and efficient check-in, drink offered while waiting. Luggage brought to the room. Room was impeccable, well equipped, comfortable bed, good aircon, wifi worked well. Bathroom spacious. Breakfast served at table if late, by chef if early, selection of juices, eggs, bread, cereals, also fruit salad, coffee and various choices of juice offered at table. Better to avoid rooms on 1st/2nd floor due to some noise, some rooms higher up might be exposed to noise from neighbours, city view is a bonus. Location is 10 minutes from the Metro, different restaurants nearby.
- Alvaro E (8/5): Nice experience in Laureles - I was for two nights, outstanding experience in service and the quality of the facilities. The gym is very basic as well the variety of the breakfast.
- altagracia (10/5): - Fantastic, life music great, very clean, great service
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was not flexible with our requests. The breakfast was okay but could have been better. The room tv even had netflix, we didn't have time to enjoy it though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like the service the rooms and the breakfast is super good
- jonh462 (8/5): Nice hotel for the price - Immaculately clean large room. Comfy beds. AC worked fine. No view from the room. Breakfast was passable. Staff were friendly and efficient. Location is just close enough to walk to lots of restaurants in Laureles.
- Reza (10/5): - I really had a great experience. The staff was amazing and the place was very clean.
- jonatahn941007 (10/5): Beyond Excellent Service - My mom and I visited Medellin as a family adventure. We got the double connecting room on the 9th floor. 2 separate rooms with 2 twin beds. Each room has their own AC. Comfortable bathroom and warm shower. Beds were soft. Very clean. They also has a steam room but we didnt have the time to use it. Continental style breakfast was really good . Located in the centre of Laureles. 15 min walk to Estadio metro station. Min walk to the main street with bars and restuarants.
The thing we liked the most was the FANTASTIC service. Out of all the hotels we stayed in Colombia, this is by far the best. They speak English and are very attentive.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone. You wont regret it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful staff and close to 70th street and good fpod
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was my second time here and they remembered me and took care of me. There are a lot of choices around the same price but when they provide service and actually look out for you it is an easy decision where to stay again
- Felix (10/5): Great Location. Clean. Great Service. - This is a great hotel. Gustavo and the entire staff has been very helpful and kind. I will come back here for the great service. Free Breakfast. The internet is fast. The room and entire building is clean and well maintained. The AC worked well and without any noise. It is close to many resturants and stores
- JustinTravels420 (2/5): One of the workers called me a pig? - I've been here four times over the past few years. I stay for a month or so each time. I acknowledged one of the workers named Guillermo and he called me pig in spanish thinking I did not understand him. I've never been insulted at a hotel in my life. I used to think this place was okay even though they are extremely overpriced for the quality of the rooms and location. I figured I'd stay here because I knew the staff at the hotel pretty well && most workers here are friendly. This will be the absolute last time I visit this hotel indefinitely after being called a pig. It's bad enough it sounds like a pigeon orgy in my room every morning, but the pig comment was the last straw. If you enjoy employees that will insult you if they think you can not understand them then this is your place, if you want a quality room I suggest other places. I never expected this from El Porton de San Joaquin.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff is amazing! My phone died while I was there. The marketing manager and her husband took me to the mall to buy a new phone. One of the staff even offered to let me use their old phone for a few days.
Internet service is fast. An Exito (chain store like Walmart) is close by and the subway is about 5 blocks away. The doormen were really helpful and even helped me count out the proper amount to pay the taxi when I got there. Highly recommend for a decent/convenient location and an amazingly helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic customer service. very nice breakfast or brunch, relaxing lobby, in walking distance to so many places.
- U6322MIalbertor (6/5): Restaurant is hit or missed. - The service is above and beyond. Mr. David and Mr. Diego, went all out in providing great service. Now, the first time I ate here, I had the Plato Paisa, plenty of good food. On my second visit, I order the Plato Caribbean. The seafood was to sweet, it came with just too small patacones and minute made rice. All of this was priced at COP 38,000 pesos. What a disappointment. The taste was lacking and it was made with too much sweet cream. Again, the places to eat have been lacking in taste and overpriced. Still have one more day and hope it will be better. I have been reading the reviews and can not attest to the reviews. Just be careful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful hotel. Staff is always amazing. They will help you in anyway possible. Great location and great food. Would highly recommend over other hotels even the big brand name hotels are not as accommodating.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel with a very good location the only problem that I see is that they only have 3 handicap accessible rooms and they are pricey.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel itself is lovely and clean, not to mention the wonderful service and people it has. Thanks sooo much Camilo, Felipe, Sneider, Brian, Juan, Monica (who looks after us for breakfast every day) and ALL the other awesome people that I have forgotten the names at the moment. We treasure knowing you ALL, and thanks for making our stay awesome!!!
- Rob (10/5): - Very nice hotel but small enough you get individual attention. The staff is excellent
- Rob (10/5): - Great hotel and staff. Good location and great restaurant. I Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Best hotel ever, the staff is amazing, it really knows how to make you feel special.
- HEPIAR (10/5): - Very nice hotel! Friendly people. I definitely will stay there again!
- Orlando_Soto (10/5): Great Choice to stay - Great choice to stay. Loved the staff. Always putting effort to make a memorable stay for you. Restaurant is very good. Great taste and good value for your money. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location within walking distance of Carrera 70 and lots of restaurants. Clean rooms with super friendly staff and nice breakfast. Air conditioning in rooms.
- Alicia (10/5): Very nice Hotel, near to downtown Medellin. - Very good experience. Just need table in the room and handle inside the shower. Everything perfect. Honest staff, respectful, friendly.
- ALVARO (10/5): nice hotel, close to everything excellent location - one of the best hotels in Medellin
best service, best staff and beautiful inside
super clean, excellent wall decorations and marble / tile every where
- Galen (10/5): Great hotel and location. - This hotel was great. My only difficulty was the language barrier. The staff was very friendly and a few spoke English, but no matter who it was they were very patient and using a translator app on my phone helped a lot. The free breakfast every morning was great and if you didn't feel like going down to the restaurant so mornings they would bring it to your room at no extra charge. My favorite by far was Diego, he was extremely friendly and always wanted to help. We talked about my previous day and what I had planned for the day with Diego providing suggestions that helped me a lot. The location was just 2 blocks from a huge food selection. While the restaurant in the hotel was great I also tried many of the 50 plus food places that were so close near by. The location is very quiet and peaceful with a great big beautiful church directly across the street from it. I recommend checking it out just for the beauty of the building if you get a chance. Back to the hotel, the rooms were nice, just a little small but everything is small in Colombia compared to America so that's understandable. The rooms were all interior rooms so no windows to look outdoors but that didn't bother me too much. Overall I loved my stay at this hotel and I would definitely stay there again when I return to Colombia.
- Yesenia (10/5): - I am vegan and the options for breakfast were very limited. However, the hotel staff ensured that my needs were accommodated and I was able to enjoy a vegan breakfast every morning. The hotel staff is amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was exceptional and very friendly. They were always providing touristic information and room service was fabulous. Location is great and numerous restaurants and nightlife.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The food from restaurant Cayenne was amazing. The service staff was great. There was construction going on which started in the early mornings and that was unpleasant to hear. I was disappointed with the room as it was very very small and the bathroom had no ventilation which made the room feel damp whenever we showered and used the bathroom. Everything else in the restaurant was quite pleasing. Would go back after construction is finished.
- 75lesliee (8/5): Great place to stay in Medellin! - Hotel was very clean and nice. Staff very helpful and all spoke English well. Rooms small but very clean and maid service excellent. Breakfast provided for our group was excellent every morning. Only problems were with the amount of hot water available in the mornings, and the fact that there was no view from the frosted windows, which I had read about in previous reviews. But great views from balconies in the hallways. Located in a nice area of the city, and no apparent crime in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would return just because of them. The first room I had was very small and wasn't as pictured in the web page. The room I changed to was nicer and larger, though the beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The items in the mini bar were very inexpensive and convenient.
- Paul (10/5): Great overall marred by a single event. - Mostly very good, beware however that any visitor to your room requires registration and a fee, even if it’s only for 5 minutes. Something to do with the police I’m told.
My friends turned up and we were straight up asked “what will you do in your room?”
This was highly embarrassing for my friends as it came across as if they were hookers or something. I voiced my complaint and told the manager that they should deal with this in a more softly softly way. It was embarrassing for myself and my poor friends. More tact required.
- Craig (10/5): - Best part of Cartagena to stay. Close to the Metro but a very safe and lively area with plenty of restraunts and bars. More of a local area. If you want a Gringo trap then head to El Puablito
- Rosalba (6/5): - Outstanding service, friendly and always willing to serve.
We encounter ants in the room, minibar located next to the bed, noisy air conditioning above room.
- MariaR133 (10/5): A very good choice - The room is clean, there is an iron and an ironing table in the room, and a hair dryer. The breakfast starts at 6am, and that was good for me who was in business in Medellín. The hotel is nearby Carrera 70, where there are lot of restaurant to choose, supermarket, etc etc! And more than that, the hotel staff are all lovely!!
- Nevyntoo (8/5): Great Location, Great Staff - The hotel as really nice, and the staff was really helpful. There is construction going on at the hotel so, around 8 am you can hear the construction noise, but it wasn't that bad. The buffet breakfast was very tasty, eggs made to order. The hotel is just a ten minute walk from the stadium metro station, and just two blocks from Carerra 70 a street of restaurants, cafes, hotels, and clubs. I would definitely stay again.
- Monika (10/5): Exvellent 7 stars - Extremely nice hotel, renewed. Great and kind personel. Delicoous breaifast. Dinner a la carte wonderful.
- csmorgan (4/5): NOT HERE if you want to sleep in! - For those on business that wake up early, this would be a good choice BUT, if you like waking up after 8:00am and are a foreigner, then find a different hotel. The hotel itself is good, clean and staff is cordial as long as there aren’t any issues. Room is small with frosted window (no view), no drawers or desk. Room is equipped with a mini-fridge, free Wi-Fi, 32" TV and hair dryer. Breakfast is not super but eatable. Only 1 elevator and on a busy day you might have to take the stairs. On my first night I heard gun shots after 1:00am near the hotel. The location is within walking distance (2 blocks) of 70th street where there is plenty of eatery and night life. HOWEVER, you will experience A LOT of morning noise hampering your sleep. Church bells will start sounding prior to 7:00am. Arriving flights into Olaya (EOH) will start prior to 7:30am. Hallway noise (talk, doors closing) and construction echo's loudly into the room. You might be lucky enough to not get a "heavy footer" of "heal wearer" above your room. In my case I had the additional noise from a next door radio and dozens of girls coming in and out, being loud prior to 7:00am to 8:00pm. Front desk was notified multiple times because of the music and loud talking with NO ACTION TAKEN. It was a horrible stay for me and I feel the hotel should "comp" me a night stay! However, this Colombia and not the US so not even an apology was given.
- SLFBman (8/5): Pleasantly surprised for 3star hotel - Very comfortable, clean hotel. Rooms with stocked refrigerators, wall safes, iron/ironing board/hairdryer. Filtered water and a selection of teas and coffee always available in lobby. Breakfast included in price. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating.
- seadweller80 (6/5): Not bad! - The rooms small but very clean and nice. Breakfast was good, staff is friendly but only so speak English if you need though all are helpful. They stored out bag for day with no issue or charge. They will arrange taxi for you. My only negative is that I contacted hotel via email twice with no response. Other wise I would rated four stars. You can't beat the price and to get to central it's 6-20 k pesos.
- brandilynnr (10/5): Excellent staff! - My husband and I stayed here during our anniversary vacation and it was perfect for us. The rooms are small but we only used ours for sleeping and showers. Quiet and safe neighborhood so we were able to get up and do our morning walk (5 am) and return to a light yet very filling breakfast. We would also do our last walk around 10 pm, with no fears. The wait staff went above and beyond helping us with our very limited Spanish. Great location! This hotel is part of a real community. There are schools, parks, churches, grocery stores, banks and restaurants nearby. All within a five minute walk. Very easy walk to the Metro Station.
- gerryh489 (2/5): Construction Noise all Day.....cut the stay short - Refund did not come as promised. - This was a very frustrating and aggravation experience for me both during my stay and after. I was booked for a 4 day stay, but left after 2 days. I will share just the worst aspects of this terrible experience.
I arrived and was shown the standard room I booked. It was tiny, dark and depressing. I was then shown a larger room which had a large window - but I had to pay double to get this upgrade. I went for it because the small interior rooms were just that bad. I initially had problems with the wi-fi, but after several complaints ,and several attempts, they fixed that. The next morning came the shock. There was very loud construction going on right next to my more expensive upgraded room. I asked the reception staff, and they indicated it would be all day long. Unfortunately I was sick, and would be in the hotel all day. I asked why they upgraded me at 2x the cost to a room right next door to construction and I just got blank stares.
There were other problems. The breakfast buffet was unappetizing with limited selections and stale food. The basics like instructions on how to make calls on the phone, or program the safe did not exist.
There were so many problems , I emailed and emailed and emailed management. Finally I got a response and met with the two young owner/managers. Ultimately all they could offer was to say move to another hotel. I explained that was not how I wanted to spend my vacation - repacking, searching for a new hotel , and then moving.
However after being sick and getting no rest during the day due to hammer, saw and drilling noise, i reevaluated and asked for a full refund, as I looked for a replacement hotel. My many many emails to management and staff were ignored. I visited the reception desk many times asking them to please notify management so I got a response.
Ultimately, after two uncomfortable days they agreed to give me a refund for the full cost of the full four days . Part of this were funds I paid to Hotels.com. They gave me back the money for the upgrade, and said they would process a refund with Hotels.com. I left and went to my other hotel for my last two days in Medellin.
I must say all the staff were initially very friendly. But they grew cold and distant once I reported problems. After we achieved an agreed upon resolution, they became friendly again. I even bought three of the flowers as a good will gesture.
But the promised Hotels.com refund was never processed. I wrote email after email to management and staff. None of the emails received any response at all. They violated a negotiated agreement that was reached with their staff and management. So the aftermath of the stay was just as aggravating as the stay itself, and I paid for four days for a two day stay.
- Gerry (2/5): Loud Construction all day. - This was a very frustrating and aggravation experience for me both during my stay and after. I was booked for a 4 day stay, but left after 2 days.

- lauragG2103OD (8/5): Suberb service! - I stayed here with a choir from the US. Check in was a little slow, no one at the desk spoke English, but waiters for the restaurant did and were always willing to help. The staff was very accommodating. A few of us has room changes promptly handled due to water pressure and noise from the adjacent building currently under construction. Breakfast was a served buffet and you were assisted with everything by polite staff! There are a few small shops and cafes near by and a modern mall a short walk. Simple walk to metro line too. Sidewalks are old so wear sensible shoes and look down when you walk!
- JoannaPV27 (10/5): Very nice hotel with attentive staff - I stayed at this hotel with a large group from the U.S. The staff did a great job of meeting everyone's needs. There were one or two staff members per meal that spoke English. The meals were excellent and the rooms were very clean and comfortable.
- HOTELNOTHINGSAID (10/5): FOR RUMBA INTHE 70 TH AFTERWARS - Very good, clean rooms, excellent service and price!
If you are around la 70 don't go anywhere this the place.
Located in a quite street . Walk day and night .
Close to banks, supermarkets and metro
For the religious time line just opposite the church and there are we go You can deliver your speech .
- HannahH329 (10/5): Great Location- Safe! - We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is great, just a 15 minute walk to the metro station, and a 10 minute cab ride to downtown. Every part of this hotel seems sparkling clean at all times. The staff was SO accommodating, many of them spoke English and truly went out of their way to make our time there enjoyable. The breakfast was great, and the staff were so friendly and hospitable. There is a restaurant in the lobby of the hotel that is really good too. The one complaint I have is that the beds are very very firm. However, we got used to it after about 2 nights. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Medellin!
- margarita (10/5): Nice hotel within walking distance from the metro - Minutes from everything, very friendly stuff, clean, nice breakfast.
- Davismith (10/5): Excellent service - Room was a bit small, but very clean and comfortable. Our room had no view but we didn't mind. I noticed that other rooms had very nice views (and I assume they cost more.)
Breakfast was superb, with fruit, eggs, sausage, bread, cheese, juice, coffee, etc.
There is a water dispenser in the lobby that dispenses not only cold water, but also cold sparkling water.
Desk service was excellent. Friendly, courteous, and competent.
- lfsevillano (10/5): Excellent, very recommended - Staff very friendly and ready to assist
Had a very good experience
- Karina (10/5): Exelent service - The service is amazing and the location of the hotel is good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel was recommended to me by a friend and I really enjoyed it. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room had very strong air conditioning which was nice.
- stephan (8/5): would stay again - Beautiful hotel
friendly staff
- John (10/5): Cheerful, Clean and Good! - I had a late arrival in Medellin (after midnight) and my itinerary was to head out that same morning for another Colombian town. Transfer to the city was easy and from the moment I arrived at El Porton de San Joauquin, I was met as the cab pulled up by a porter. Check in was quick and easy. My room (I booked a double though solo because I like more room) was pretty small, but everything I needed was there and in good order. The most important thing I want to say is this. As a seasoned traveler, one can acquire an extra "sense" on management as reflected in the staff and environment. This Hotel is really trying to do the "old school" method of keeping standards high and staff happy to work there. The breakfast was good and substantial. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and cheerful. Thus, I give this Hotel 5 stars. :-) Keep it up!
- Ben (8/5): Noisy - Hotel was good apart from the fact the foyer contains the restaurant. All the noise travels straight up the stairwell from breakfast time onwards. So if having late nights and you want to sleep in, ask for a room on the upper floors, and as far from stairwell as possible.
The room walls must be paper thin as doors closing in the hallway and people walking and talking all comes straight into the room as well.
Room was much smaller than we expected. Not really enough room to put two suitcases beside the bed without having to walk over the top of it.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Justin (10/5): best hotel - It's located across the street from a beautiful church and 2 blocks from a busy street with great food. This is the place to stay at if you want the Colombian experience and not just the tourist colombia. Most of the staff are not fluent in English but all will try to assist you or find a way to assist you
- Andres (8/5): The best service for an economic cost - The hotel has an excelent ubication, near you can walk in the famous 70 street of Medellin. The recepcionists are very helpful. The single room are small and the only drawback I had was that the air conditioning in my room did not cool well. In general terms the quality is very good with respect to the price.
- Terry (10/5): Absolutely the BEST Hotel Ive ever stayed at - I have traveled to many places around the world, and Ive never had a staff be so attentive to my concerns and needs.
I dont normally do reviews, but this Hotel needs to be recognized as they are the epitome of Excellence in customer service and set the standard for hotels around the world.
Every Hotel around the world could learn some valuable lessons from "Hotel El Porton De San Joaquin"
All the staff are happy to work here, and strive to exceed your every expectation, and literally treated me like family.
Expedia screwed up my reservation by adding and charging 3 extra days to my itinerary. After being there a few days, I didnt even care about expedias flup up because I enjoyed staying there so much that I stayed the extra 3 days even after locating a place to live in Medellin Colombia. I still go by there since Im located fairly close just to visit the owner and staff, and they still treat me as if Im a guest.
I love these people.
Its so hard for me to rate them a 5, because theyre a very strong 10+
- rosa (10/5): Great clean breakfast is good and included. - Great customer service nice location free wifi breakfast was delicious
- Marshall (10/5): Extremely friendly staff. - Had a good time. Clean rooms, friendly staff that are always willing to have a conversation. Good in house cooking and room service. They always seemed to want to help. Would definitely stay there again. The place is also located 2 blocks from a bunch of bars and restaurants and is really close to public transportation. If you prefer, they can get you a cab in under 2 minutes.
- Alvaro (4/5): NOISY under construction hotel - Very nice hotel, the room site IS a kind of small but "enough".
The staff service IS OUstanding.
The huge problem Was that they were doing some improvements and they started every day at 7am (but sundays). At least 5 clients complained. Nothing happened!
- Mr. George (10/5): Great bang for your buck - Very nice small hotel with excellent service. Located in a nice part of city too with easy access to many of Medellin's points of interest. This is also great area of the city with lot's of restaurants and things. This location is also very flat and it makes walking around easier, because many parts of Medellin have lots of hills.
Breakfast was included with my stay, but I also ate some very good salads their as well.
They also help me setup taxi rides and tours ... that was very helpful.
- Albert (10/5): Great hotel near carretera 70. - The staff was extremely accominating. They were available and pleasant to deal with. The breakfast that was included was great. The location was two blocks from carretera 70. An area lined with many clubs and restaurants. Unlike the Parqe Llires area this area is not frequented by tourist but by local Colombians. The room was small but clean and well decorated. I will definitely stay there again next trip to Medellin.
- jeffrey (10/5): - Excellent hotel very close to the "party district" but just far enough that is doesn't bother you at 3am. The hotel restaurant is lovely and has fantastic food! You will find at least one person on staff who speaks perfect English at any time of the day. There was one individual who worked the breakfast buffet every morning. His English was not only perfect, he was always smiling, talking, laughing - a real pleasure. The rooms were small, but that is expected in Colombia. Very happy here and will I will be back!
- Pierre (8/5): Not enough space to write how great this place is! - We stayed at "El Porton de San Joaquin" for a total of seven days which is more than enough to tell when a hotel is good or bad. Thankfully this experience was on the good side of stays. We are the pickiest travels and we selected this property do to the recommendation of the reviewers on different travel sites. When we arrived at the property (Around Noon) the staff where apologetic they didn’t have a room ready even thou check in is at 3pm yet they managed to get a room ready for us around 130pm. When we arrived to our room we found it to be small yet well distributed, fairly similar to the European standard rooms. The cleanliness of the rooms surpassed most 4 star hotels and was at par with some of the best 5 star hotels we have stayed in.
The beds are quite comfortable and the showers provide as much comfort as you can expect on a room of the size we were in. Did I mention how clean they are and how great room service is in this hotel.
The hotel sauna is in the main tower where you find a combination of a Sauna and Turkish baths that will stun you when you realize you are in a fairly accessible in price hotel.
One of the things my wife and I loved the most about this facility is how environmentally aware they are, and the different systems they have in the property to save energy, water and recycling throughout the hotel.
Paula in reception help us book our tours to the inner side of the country and their help with the tours was invaluable.
- Rolando (10/5): Great overall, excellent value for what you pay - Very clean hotel, and courteous, informative, friendly and service-oriented personnel including those at the front desk, in restaurant, and bellboys. There were three of us and so we stayed in a room with three double beds; it was not terribly spacious but we did not feel confined either. We had lunch at the hotel twice, and the food was tasty, well-presented and relatively inexpensive. There is cold bottled water and hot tea and coffee in the lobby 24/7. You can change the amount of dollars you will need at the front desk each day.
- Luis (10/5): Awesome little hotel for the price! - This is a great little hotel! The staff was super friendly and accommodating! The rooms were very clean and comfortable. My original room was very small and they upgraded me to a bigger room at no extra cost. The design of the workout and sauna areas are a bit awkward, but functional. Hey serve a good solid breakfast. The area is very nice. A bit far away from Parque Lleras, so if that's your main focus you may want to pick a place closer to there just because traffic can be very congested at times. For the price you cannot beat this hotel compared to other swankier hotels at double triple and quadruple the price! Upon returning to Medellin I will be staying at this hotel! I give five stars to the staff for their professionalism and attention!
- Matt (10/5): Well run, great staff throughout - This is definitely the place to stay in this area- they pay attention to all the details. Every staff member is very well trained. Everone is very friendly and helpful.
- Carlos (10/5): Nice hotel near to amenities and tourist places! - This is a nice hotel, with all sort of amenities for guests. It has everything you may need to enjoy a stay in Medellin; near to many touristic places and with a staff prepared to help you and guide you through enjoying the city.
