Guest Reviews
- Megan (6/5): - Lovely property. A restaurant would have been nice. Unfortunately we had a bit of a bug issue in our room.
- Irene and Steve (10/5): - the room accommodations, and deck area were outstanding! the staff was amazing, Rau who manages the entire property in the evening was gracious and helpful. Loved our say, will be back!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly.
- paul (10/5): - Amazing views across the valley, beautiful! Would 100% recommend this hotel and stay here again
- Roger (10/5): - Beautiful boutique hotel. Small but good rooms
- David (8/5): Modern B&B - Modern B&B, immaculately clean and maintained. Secure underground parking. For the less able, it is quite a climb up to the property from the quayside.
- Daniel (8/5): - Great location
- Toni (10/5): - The LBV House was a great place to stay. It’s a quick drive to the main part of town. It is a short walk but quite hilly. Breakfast was delicious, staff friendly, and stay was very enjoyable.
- Erwin Roland (10/5): - Preis Leistung gut, sehr freundlicher Empfang. Gutes Frühstück. Sehr schöne Lage und Ruhig. jederzeit wieder!
- Torsten (10/5): - Vackra Duorodalen. En pärla uppe i byn.
- Alexandre (8/5): - Amazing view on the Douro valley, from our room and even from within the pool!
- Leslie (10/5): - Wonderful small hotel right outside of town. Convenient parking garage! Beautiful views over the river. Riu was on duty the evening we arrived and he was a delight!
- Amy (8/5): - The LBV hotel is an absolutely beautiful property. However, it is a VERY steep climb up to it from Pinhao. Unless you have a car (which is challenging to drive in this area) or want to pay for a taxi to get to a restaurant it is not convenient. I averaged 10 miles a day travelling in Europe and this climb was A LOT. I think this is the norm for the area. Hotel was a GREAT bargain but challenging to get to.
- Hayato (10/5): - スタッフが親切で部屋も綺麗でとても快適に過ごせました。
- Cris (10/5): - The staff at this property were outstanding. It was raining when we were there, but in good weather, the outside patios would have been lovely. It's a bit of a walk into town, but we were a group of four seniors and we managed fine. We took a cab back up to the property. After a long day of travelling, we loved the quietness that this property provided.
- Roberta (10/5): - Lovely, huge balconies.
- Robert (10/5): - Great spot overall. Banilda at the front desk went above and beyond. A rainstorm leaked through some of the walls and they shifted us to another room that was a definite upgrade. Rooms were clean and comfortable with a great deck. Would love to come back.
- Tina (10/5): Highly recommend - Super friendly staff and very clean rooms. A bit of a walk if you want to go down to the centre of the village - but doable. Definitely worth it. Highly recommend it.
Simple but good breakfast.
- Carl (10/5): Perfect small peaceful hotel. - This is a superb small hotel that feels well above its 3 star rating. Well appointed rooms each with a balcony giving a wonderful view over Pinhao. While a little uphill walk out of town it is worth it for the peace and tranquility.
Our every need was catered to in LBV House
- Gilles (10/5): Vaut le détour !! - Bel hôtel moderne, chambre petite mais confortable, sans frigo. Les espaces extérieurs et la piscine sont incroyables. La vue à couper le souffle.
- Kevin (6/5): - Wonderful location on the hillside with beautiful views of the Douro river valley. Great pool and very peaceful. Main downside with the breakfast experience. Silent room with no ambient music and the choice for breakfast limited.
- Dianne (6/5): Don’t bother - This hotel had an almost impossible carpark to enter. In fact it was quite dangerous driving in. The room was incredibly small and it did not supply tissues, shampoo, conditioner or hand cream. The staff were unhelpful and the map of the area was useless as the notations were too small to read. It was most unsatisfactory.
- Esther (8/5): - Location was good, difficult getting taxis between 12 - 1 (2 told us they were on lunch) - waited almost an hour as walk to steep with luggage. Staff were very kind and helpful, but also not around for 20 when we arrived. Jacuzzi was out of order. Amazing views and terrace with a pool, nice grounds, good lunch (sandwiches) and wine, rooms modern but small (it's Europe). We would stay again! Loved hotel cat!
- John (10/5): - This is a great place. It’s high on the hillside overlooking the vineyards. There is a beautiful view right outside the front door. I would recommend you get a room with a balcony. This is a smaller hotel that is relatively new and well kept. Parking is underground. We recommend this hotel and enjoyed our stay.
- Alina (10/5): - Beautiful views to be enjoyed from the spacious balconies and very comfortable seating. Loved having afternoon wine and watching the sunset from our balcony. Staff at breakfast was very nice and attentive. Hotel itself is very well maintained. We loved the hotel cat, very sweet and friendly.
- john (10/5): - Beautiful clean contemporary design. Infinity pool overlooking the valley below is stunning!
- Marlene (10/5): Douro Valley in March - We had a lovely stay - the views and scenery are spectacular. The room was spacious and well appointed and very comfortable. The large balcony and full wall window were amazing.
We arrived by train so the walk up to the hotel was quite a climb but this is not unusual for the Douro valley. For those with a car there is a good car park in thr basement.
- Claire (6/5): - Hotel was nice enough but the lack of sound proofing made it really difficult to get a good nights sleep. The free parking was a bonus as it is a 10-15min walk from town
- Sven Magnus (10/5): Prisvärt hotell med vänlig personal. - Enkelt hotell i bra prisläge. Vänlig personal. God, fräsch och enkel frukost. Promenad till centrum ger bra kondition. Trappor och höjdskillnad kräver lite fysik.
- Jo (10/5): Great little hotel in a beautiful location - Kingdom

Review of LBV House Hotel
Pending review
The LBV is a small hotel on top of a big hill. If you arrive by train get a taxi (out of the station and turn left). Once you're there you can have a nice ten minute very steep downhill walk back to the town through the back alleys.
The hotel staff were very welcoming - Rui checked us in and was our barman that day. The rooms are modern with most having nice balconies overlooking the valley. We also love a good strong shower - be careful what you wish for if you use the water jets :)
The bar was really comfortable with a great view and Rui gave us a little history of the hotel and the area. We also got introduced to Moustache the house cat who was very friendly and allowed us to befriend him (this isn't mandatory if you don't like cats but made our stay even more perfect). For those that are cat adverse there was no evidence there was a cat around and he was only allowed in as we were very keen to meet him.
Breakfast had a nice spread however the fresh orange juice was a little thin and was lacking in flavour. We appreciate this is a subjective view but the 3 of us that tried it all felt the same. However this would not put us off recommending LBV to our friends.
Overall we loved our stay - everyone was really friendly and the hotel was everything we wanted.
- Andreas (8/5): - Hotel was good. Breakfast very limited at 9.00 hardly anything left
- Lindsay (10/5): - Amazing shower with 7 heads for a standing massage! Comfortable bed and beautiful views of the vineyards. The restaurant in town is delicious too.
- Valerie (8/5): - Great little hotel in Pinhao. Centrally located in Douro Valley. Friendly staff, good selection of continental breakfast.
- Nicolas (10/5): - We were very well received. The man at the reception was very helpful with his recommendations about restaurants and Quintas. We walked there from the train station and it is a good hike if you carry a heavy suitcase. We sadly couldn't stay for breakfast because we had an early train to catch but they hotel was an excellent value overall.
- Diana (10/5): - Beautiful hotel.
- Kelvin (4/5): Looks can be deceiving. Surprisingly bad. - On the face of it, this place looked ok - it’s a new building and has enclosed on-site parking. No water supply on our first morning. Arguable no breakfast service on our second day. The experience was not one I would care to repeat.
Location - while on a map it looks as though the hotel is in Pinhao, it’s actually up a very steep incline, which to us, made the town inaccessible except by car. The view from the room was nice, but on the balcony you’re overlooking an industrial yard with lorry parking - not ideal.
Cleanliness - not up to scratch, which is surprising considering it’s a new property. The shower was not well maintained - there was a lot of mould and bacteria on the tiles which is inexcusable given there are only 11 rooms to clean.
Facilities - our first morning, we woke up around 6:30 and found the water was off. No one at reception to answer the phone. When we went down around 7 - there was someone who said we’d have to wait until someone turned up. The water was restored around 8:30 but we had to replan our day as a result. No apology offered. I mentioned it when leaving and the receptionist blamed the town and said it happens from time to time. Just wow.
Breakfast - I didn’t expect a lot, given it’s the off season. The first morning was ok - they did actually put out a spread, though it was sparse. The second morning they didn’t even unlock the door until 8:30. There was no spread - just a couple slices of ham and some watered down orange juice.
- Richard (10/5): - Lovely hotel, very modern, clean, bright in a super location on the hills overlooking the Doura river. A 15 mins walk (downhill) to the river where there are a couple of very nice restaurants. Staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and, warm and pleasant. View out of the room was great, with a large balcony where you can sit. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful too. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful away from it all few days away in abeaitiful hotel with pleasant staff, this is your place. I would absolutely stay there again.
- Sandy (6/5): - If you are walking to the property, please know you will be walking uphill. My husband and I stayed in room #11 where there is visible water damage/mold on the wall opposite of the shower. We mentioned it upon checking out and we were informed they are aware and are closing the room in January for repairs.
In the event you are allergic to cats…there is a cat at the hotel.
Breakfast was good with a nice view.
- Aidan (8/5): Overwhelmed by view - Nice staff. Beautiful property with stunning view of the Douro valley. Quite a difficult downhill walk to downtown. No restaurants close. Nice room with balcony. Tub was difficult to climb into for a shower. No lotion, conditioner , coffee or Kleenex. Tasty but not extensive breakfast included. Parking in parkade also included.
- Michael (8/5): - He had a lovely stay here
- Daniel (8/5): - Vue superbe sur Douro
- Mia (8/5): - The property was great but I would have liked if it also had a dinner restaurant.
- Eduarda (10/5): - The hotel sits on a hill with great views of the Douro River and mountains. Very friendly staff and overall a great value for the money.
- Iain (10/5): - Great location overlooking the Duoro
- Evelyn (8/5): Modern complex - Clean and tidy. Good breakfast.
- John G (10/5): Pinhao Great and Meet Mustache the Cat st LBV - The LBV has only one negative: it is up the hill from the train station and can be a long walk after dinner and a few drinks. However, the highlight of our stay was meeting “Mustache” the hotel cat. Extremely friendly and he came by our room to say goodbye (meow!) as we were packing to leave. Also, Pinhao is a great town to visit.
- Laine (8/5): - Property was quiet.breakfast in the morning was great. We liked that it had a pool. It was a bit of a climb from the mainstreet downtown. Very clean.
- Richard (10/5): - Nice, fairly new facility- great view of the Douro - staff were very friendly and accommodating!
- Laurie (10/5): Fantastic Hotel to Explore the Duoro Valley - It is a great hotel for a stay in the Duoro Valley. Everything is super clean, the room was a little small but comfortable and had floor to ceiling windows that opened up onto a lovely back patio overlooking the breathtaking Duoro. All of the staff were friendly and helpful including the hotel cat who welcomes everyone and will happily sit and let you pet him for as long as you want. The pool is beautiful though it was too early in Spring for a swim. The breakfast was sumptuous, there was something for everyone and plenty of it. Oh and they have free parking under the hotel. I had a great stay and would highly reccomend this hotel.
- Tom (8/5): - Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Property was very up to date.
- Camilo (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, friendly, and conveniently located. LBV makes it easy to enjoy Pinhao and its surroundings.
- Craig (4/5): - Checked in and our extremely small room seemed to have no A/c. We couldn’t get it to work and it was 35 Celsius outside. Went to the front desk and he said just leave a room card in the A/C control so it would stay running while we went out for a few hours sightseeing. Upon returning there was no A/c in the room… actually the whole building. They tried adjusting some settings etc but told us nobody was coming to repair it that day. No refund ever offered and the room was sweltering all night.
Not a good experience at all.
As for the room? So small you had to move a large chair in order to open the door to get onto the balcony…. Making it virtually impossible to move around in the room.
Was soo hot in there that we had to leave the balcony door wide open all night even though that provides little relief in sweltering heat.
I fully believe their A/C had not been working for some time but they chose to just ignore it ( to save money I assume?)
I asked for some sort of compensation and was told “No. The manager has said No.to any compensation “
I say NO to recommending this place.
- marjorie (10/5): - Lovely place, make sure you but make sure you book a room with a view of that's important to you. On site restaurant for great breakfast, but nothing on site. Drive into town. LBV by the water restaurant was good but not sure the employees liked tourists all that well. Or, of course, they just didn't care for us? 😁
- Tony (10/5): Picturesque and relaxing - Awesome, small, well appointed, clean hotel overlooking the Douro River. Adjacent the small village of Pinhao and a short drive to many wonderful and scenic vineyards and wineries. The location is picturesque and the staff friendly and accommodating. Thoroughly recommend a stay here to appreciate the beauty and serenity of the area. The breakfast was wonderful!
One of the highlights of our 15 day trip through Portugal.
Room tip: Parking is easy.
- Huw (10/5): Clean and modern - LBV House is a very clean and modern hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly anytime they were approached.
The hotel is situated up a steep hill and it it takes 10min to walk down to the town of Pinhoe. But takes over 15min to walk back!
- DAVID (8/5): Beautiful hotel in great position - This beautiful hotel with a good breakfast only needs better motivated staff to make it perfect a fact readily acknowledged and shared by staff with guests
Other than that it’s fantastic with breathtaking views (two rooms excepted)
- DAVID (10/5): Fabulous hotel in great setting - Fabulous hotel in great location made of local stone and wood
Local wine magnates built this hotel ten years ago but it looks new
9 front rooms with valley views two with rear non views
Good buffet breakfast underground parking
- Stephanie (8/5): Would gladly stay here again without hesitation! - We absolutely loved this hotel! The room was beautiful, the balcony overlooking the river and hillside full of vineyards was peaceful, and the bathroom was very spacious and well-appointed. The included breakfast was delicious and they even offered eggs (any style) with bacon and sausage. We were a little disappointed that the advertised hot tub was closed (due to Covid) but it barely took away from the overall experience. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The parking garage underneath the hotel provided ease of use and access. The hotel advertises and does have air conditioning, but please be aware that because it is eco-friendly, you must use the hotel room key to use it and you can not make the room as cool as an American would like (yes, I know this is a first world problem). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!!!
- Lawrence (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, modern
- Helder C (10/5): Amazing stay - Amazing stay. Amei a estadia! Superou muito minhas expectativas! A localização do hotel fica um pouco acima do centro. Da uma caminhada de 10 minutos. Mas tem sempre táxis na região! Super recomendo o hotel!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good hotel with great views but odd bathroom - Great hotel and pool, though it was either too hot in the day or too cold at night to use when I was there. Good breakfast, too. Only downside was the bathroom in our room. For some reason, the bathroom had a half frosted window pane overlooking the bed. From the bed area, you could look into the shower and see the toilet too. Not exactly romantic. Also if someone used the bathroom in the middle of the night that means the light from the bathroom would shine right on you in bed. Why did they do that?! Also their very casual eatery at the bottom of the hill had awesome wine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Almost perfect! - Fabulous from start to end. That great combination of personal touches and a quasi luxury environment that make Boutique hotels the better alternative.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were delightful and very helpful, were able to guide us about the train to Pocinho and the best Quintas to visit. The restaurant connected to the hotel but down in the village was also very good. The only quibble concerns the parking - while it is underground and quite sufficient, on arrival there is no place to park to register and learn about the parking. Signs or a notice would be useful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful view of the valley from our room. Friendly service. Weird thing about the room is a glass panel in the shower between the shower and the bedroom. In other words, there is no privacy when showering. Whoever is sitting on the bed can look right into the shower. One of the primary reasons I was looking forward to this hotel was use of the indoor hot tub (we visited in Nov) and it was broken. I know these things happen, but it was super disappointing. If visiting in the summer the outdoor pool looked lovely. The breakfast was decent but no hot food, just mostly breads, meats and cheeses, yogurt and fruit. No restaurant for evening meals. Ok location though, you can walk to the main street, down steep road/alley. Overall a nice property.
- Shauna (10/5): - Receptionists were very helpful with reservations for dinner and information on local tours and shopping. Bed was very comfortable, with plenty of pillows. Our room had a terrace in the back, not a river view, which was disappointing, as the description on Expedia was that every room had a view, which is why I booked this hotel. Staff explained they've reported discrepancy to Expedia several times but the wording has not been changed. Would stay here again, though, if I can get a room with a view!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful ,clean and quite facility
Breakfast was good
Friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very charming, quiet and beautiful hotel. The location is perfect 3 min distance from Pinhao downtown where activities and se real restaurants can be found. The Staff from the Hotel is 5 stars, friendly and always available to assist.
The infinity pool is also fantastic with great panoramic views over the Douro river.
Breakfast is very good, good quality and variety. We definitely recommend this hotel for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Douro and Pinhao area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing Views. Close to town. Staff extremely friendly. Would definitely come back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and modern property. Views are breathtaking. Location is very good for wineries.
- Hayley (10/5): We cannot wait to go back! - Amazing hotel. We booked for night and wished we stayed here the entire trip! It was so clean, staff were extremely friendly, the views were amazing and the room was fabulous. So spacious and clean. The pool was an added bonus even if it was freezing but such a peaceful hotel! We will be going back next year for at least 4 nights and we cannot wait. The breakfast wasn’t the best but was ok. That’s the only thing that we didn’t like everything else was so good!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Modern stylish boutique hotel. Nice pool with infinity view of Douro Valley. Standard rooms on small side and a good 10 min steep walk to town so not good for anyone with mobility issues
- Dave (10/5): - Lovely hotel with great views and balconies close enough to walk into the town
- Stewy (8/5): Amazing hotel overlooking Pinhao - 4+/5 overall
Amazing venue and beautiful views.
Only downside was that the hot water wasn’t very hot for showering.
Otherwise I wish we stayed longer as it was terrific.
I would recommend to anyone visiting Albufeira
- ROBIN (8/5): Modern exterior, dorm interior - On the exterior, this looks like a very modern hotel in a small town. But the rooms feel like a college dorm room.
- Gary (8/5): Outside town center - The hotel was very nice and the room was comfortable. My big complaint -- their restaurant was on the river so it was a 20 minute walk or a 5 to 6 Euro taxi down and a 35 minute back back up the steep hill or a 6-7 Euro cab ride back up. The food in the restaurant was very good but when we went the second evening (Tuesday), they were out of many choices as the chef shops on Wednesdays when the restaurant is closed. Service in the restaurant was inconsistent.
- Kerrie (8/5): Good location and lovely place - Shame about the plastic bed liners and hard bed, crappy pillows. Plus super cold pool. Location and staff were fabulous and it was a good, cold breakfast.
- Simon (10/5): A very good hotel. - This is a very good small hotel. It's design is very crisp and modern and everything is easily accessible.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool is on a terrace with an amazing view of the river and the valley. The hotel itself is sited on the hill above the town but the taxi is less than €4. In fact we - including over 60s- walked up and down through a set of steps which wind down to the town. The hotel staff told us where to find the steps.
In summary, I recommend this hotel without reservation and would return if I were to visit Pinhao again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Friendly service, great view but isolated - The hotel is on the hill in Pinhao, giving it a spectacular view over the Douro River and valley. However, it's not right in the town centre so you'll have to drive down or walk down to the shops and restaurants. There aren't any shops in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. We were there in winter (Dec) so it was low season and the restaurant was only open for breakfast. There was no one at the breakfast room so we couldn't order eggs, or ask for more coffee that had run out.
- Bob & Jane (10/5): What a delight - This beautiful 11 room hotel is tucked into a hillside overlooking Pinhao and the Duoro valley. The rooms were a bit small but well appointed, baths were very nice and the private deck with beautiful vistas was another plus. The hotel is only four years old and built with local woods and stone, it has a beautiful lobby and incredible, swimming pool. The staff is delightful, hard working and knowledgeable. The breakfast was continental and beautifully presented. This was a true gem!
- Robert (6/5): Not a good experience. - Hotelm situated overlooking the Douro river.Steep hill down to Pinhao which is 10 minutes down and 20 minutes back. Definitely 3 star, limited staff and poor quality restaurant. Swimming pool green with algae and very poor spa facility. In rooms with shower the shower and toilet are only screened from the bedroom with a clear glass panel so little or no privacy. Very overpriced.
- erica (10/5): Superb views from restaurant. - You can walk up to the hotel from the station but it is quite a climb, quick ten minutes down though. Restaurants and bars in town are great value. Food in hotel was of a very high quality and plenty of it but more expensive than local although compared well to English prices. Balcony was large but would recommned a river view as we had a room at the back which faced a very high stone wall (not very attractive). Welcoming bottle of port was lovely. Staff helpful and sorted early breakfast so we could catch 8.17 train back to Porto.
- Peter (10/5): Perfect location - Very helpful staff, it really should be 4 star if not 5. Everything is perfect, would defiantly go back.
- Roger (10/5): Fine small hotel on hill above Pinhao - Modern small hotel with excellent views over valley & river. If you arrive by train' expect to get a taxi up hill (5 Euros), but otherwise a doable steep 20 minute walk into town for restaurants & river boat trips. Good continental breakfast. First class swimming g pool with lovely views.
- Steve C (8/5): Lovely hotel - few snagging problems. - The Hotel is lovely, ideal spot overlooking the vineyards. Breakfast was ample and tasty. The air conditioning in the room we had did not work so it was pretty hot and the toilet in the second room was leaking. If you like Port this is the place to stay but they don't serve wine in the hotel, which i thought was a little odd. Be careful with the car park as the ramp is severe and our hire car grounded both in and out. All this said it's a beautiful hotel.
