Guest Reviews
- Kate (2/5): - Free parking Pub smelt, pillows were split, trains run through the night so you can't sleep.
- Mike (7/5): Model Hotel - Perfect location for a visit to Pendon museum, the pub actually exists on the model. Proper unspoilt country pub with a good drop of ale.
- Reed (7/5): -
- Toby (8/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): Pleasant and comfortable stay. - Charming location. Just what you would hope for in a country pub.
- Michael (9/5): Great value for money; and a reminder of how to live like a human - not part of a machine. - Excellent value for money. Friendly and helpful staff, agreeable dog, adjacent historically significant victorian station - still very up and running though the silent building remains as an architectural testament to Brunel detail and quality.
Others have complained about passing train noise. Bring it on, I say. The Railway Inn windows are now double glazed; The discreet sound of the passing trains is a comforting reminder of the continued existence of sentient humans going about their reassuring business. AI is fine but not for everything. Victorian buildings are what they are: small rooms, stairs designed for teenage servants, and times have changed. The customer has a choice. But for ambiance, tradition, and the sense of connection with the human race and the history that supports it (much older than you might imagine) I didn’t dislike anything.

- Chiara (6/5): - Ottima posizione per raggiungere Oxford. Personale gentile Pulizie delle camere da rivedere
- Rebecca (8/5): Definitely recommend - The room was spacious, warm, and clean. Breakfast was very filling with lots of options. The pressure for the shower was a little low, but otherwise, we had a lovely stay. 15 min train to Oxford also enjoyed a great local ale and game of pool in the pub. Would definitely stay again. A slight drain smelll in the bathroom
- Anita (10/5): Will come back again if we stay in the area. - Room was quiet considering the inn was adjacent to the railway. The owner was really helpful and accommodating, providing alternative rooms for us catering for my limited mobility.
- Rick (8/5): - Lovely people, Good in-house dinner
- Dave (10/5): Great location, great food and great welcome Thank you very much! - Great location, great food and great welcome
Thank you very much!

- Nigel (7/5): - The location is ideal for visiting family nearby. There should be a little more attention to detail regarding cleanliness of my room. i.e. hair, dust/bits in the corners. The bathroom radiator was not working.
- Johnston (10/5): A comfortable stay. - Brilliant breakfast and evening meal, warm room.
- Anne (9/5): - The friendly welcome
- Andrew (7/5): -
- John G Francis (8/5): -
- Gary (10/5): Perfect little place with bags of potential. - The lady that was there was very helpful, polite and chatty, nothing was too much trouble. And I LOVED Brunel, absolute gorgeous dog. How quiet it was, a place like that should be a lot busier, such a shame. The price of the rooms were quite expensive, there are 11 in total and only 3 rooms rented out (2 for me). I feel if the price was dropped on the weekend it would attract more people, more people spending money in the bar and restaurant, and in turn creating a better atmosphere.
- Phillip (7/5): -
- Nigel (7/5): -
- Shirley (5/5): Enjoyed the setting and friendly staff. - Staff, setting, four legged bar maid Could do with a deep clean, new bedding, new fan
- Nigel Peter (7/5): -
- andrew (4/5): - The room was directly next to the railway line,, very noisy, trains start at 4am. Was travelling for work so staying all week, the room not great for this length of stay. Poor shower pressure
- Tony (5/5): Basic but clean good value for money - Room was cheap basic and clean I stayed in a loft room, not their fault but wow was it hot in there in the summer.
- alan (9/5): -
- Robert Edward (9/5): Well worth it and pleasant - The staff were very kind and helpful. The breakfasts and evening meals were good and tasty. I had meals all three nights of the stay.. Cottage pie, scampi & chips and hunters chicken. The shower in the room was ok, but not very powerful
- Tim (8/5): - Welcoming staff, comfortable room, altogether fine No problems
- Guest (7/5): -
- David (9/5): Ideal location, staff v friendly and helpful - Ideal location did what I needed, comfy, staff very friendly. Room had what I needed, breakfast good mainly booked as it was close to the station and where I was going. Shower was very weak, and bathroom in need of a freshen up.
- Paul (10/5): Great stay, very comfy. - Lovely little pub. Its a shame it was so quiet. Would definitely recommend for quiet getaway.
- Helen (8/5): Comfortable stay with friendly helpful staff - Staff friendly and helpful. Bed very comfy....great night's sleep!
Breakfast was very good Access via stairs a bit steep and handrail wobbly
Big spider in bathroom...but more an issue with my phobia of them!
- helen (10/5): - Did not have time for the included breakfast but was given an amazing sandwich to take away instead.
I also had an evening meal. Very tasty steak, cooked to suit.
- Izera (7/5): Ideal for one day stay - Great breakfast Recommended access was limiting. Should be out between 10 and 3.
- David (6/5): I pretty good place for a 0ne-night stop-over to meet friends - Breakfast was good The ceiling in my top-floor room was head-banging and I had to bend a bit in the shower.
- Victor (9/5): -
- Ruth (6/5): - Beds were ok. Quite upset to see vermin traps behind the beds!
Quite cold, had to ask for a heater. Towels were worn and a bit hard. Food indifferent.
- Carol (7/5): -
- Shaun (10/5): - Clean room comfortable bed good food
- Jane (9/5): Warm, clean and friendly - Welcoming and friendly staff. Food service quick and home cooked food.
- Jane (9/5): Warm and friendly with good home cooked food. - Great home cooked filling food. Friendly helpful atmosphere.
- Peter Rolleston (7/5): - Warm, quiet, comfortable room, even with trains close by. Friendly staff. Easy run to Heathrow, which was the reason for staying. Meals were not great, just normal pub food. Pubs like this are an endangered species and worth supporting.

Hi Expedia, First, I'm not sure how you added this property to your prestige e-commerce.
The amount I paid for one night's stay is not worth it.
The receptionists displayed terrible behaviour; they had pets and smelled all around the bar, dining, and reception area. We went to break fast at 9:05 a.m., and they said it was closed. Not even a single customer was there, but there was no courtesy to ask for coffee or any flexible, continuous breakfast. Imagine, this 2 km/3 km surrounding hotel has no local shop or convenience store to buy. I leave the place without any food or coffee (cover breakfast).
Also, she showed her face, which we could not tolerate, and complained to us, "You guys bring outside food without asking permission from us." Firstly, the dining place smelled of pets, and how was she expected to eat? Secondly, there was no food or restaurant after 9pm/9:30pm. Last night, I saw many others bring pizza and other foods to their rooms and open the balcony, too, but still, she raised questions to us.
The hotel management should have declared or told us that no outside food was allowed while checking in or booking a reservation with the Expedia portal, but they surprised us by not providing food choices and by not having a food corner within 2 km of this property.
There was no proper shower water supply (I complained multiple times), and the towels had a urine-like smell. I don't know how Expedia added this property to your e-commerce.

- Margaret (5/5): - Rooms were clean and comfortable. Location was good and lots of parking. The staff were attentive but not welcoming. We hoped for a friendly, cosy pub where we could have a nice meal and a few drinks. Food was very basic but well cooked. Breakfast was ok but limited offer. The overall offer was very basic but lacked care or interest in making the experience a really nice one.
- mark (10/5): Very good just booking again - Friendly clean and good food Nothing
- bart41 (8/5): - Great breakfast and dinner, the publican lady was so nice and helpful
- Alison (8/5): - The location was ideal as it enabled me to easily attend our family celebrations.
- Jeff (10/5): Great place to stay - Very nice pub and hotel. Love the location right next to the trian tracks.
- Saul (4/5): Railway inn - The B&B is next to a train station the main line to Oxford the trains
Where every 20mins throughout the night the noice wasn’t good the main road was also close and from 6am it was busy with traffic. The room was okay pillows where rock hard and the shower room needed a good clean and there was yellow slime around the bottom of the shower tray have a video of required the sink was dirty .
They don’t cater for gluten free guests.
- John (8/5): liked the traditional pub feel. -
- Andy (1/5): - Couldn’t sleep because of Trains all night
- Rob (10/5): Warm and welcoming - great place! - Friendly staff and owners (and Brunel the dog!) The place is cosy and welcoming, the room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. Perfect for anyone visiting the Culham Science Centre.
- Emmanuel (10/5): -
- David (8/5): - Very friendly landlady, she pointed out the places that we were planning to visit.
The breakfast was great.
- Caroline (5/5): - Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Easy access and parking. Very maroon and dark furniture decor in need of redecoration . Photos look much better on website. All bit shabby, not that clean, e.g. liquid soap obviously refilled many times but outside of container not cleaned so grey scum on it. As indicated by name it is on railway line.
- Elliott (7/5): -
- Jason (7/5): pretty good - nice owner - nice breakfast bit expensive just for one night
- Hazel (6/5): One night at the Railway Inn - This was a basic hotel with basic pub grub. Very uncomfortable pillows and I had a terrible night as my room was so noisy. It is right on the railway station, and although the trains were not such an issue with a room at the back, the main road most certainly was! I hardly had any sleep. The breakfast was measly. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and the landlady Pauline was very kind and accomodating above and beyond.
- Duncan (9/5): Very nice stay, excellent location and friendly helpful staff. - Great location and staff were very helpful during my stay. Room was small, but comfortable and breakfast was good. Location for my planned visit worked out very well and close to the event I was attending. Nothing
- Peter (9/5): -
- Forrester (10/5): As rewarding as always. - As always, Pauline ensured we had a great time: marvellous breakfast, good range of draft drinks and the room we asked for. It has the charm of pubs of the 20th century; nothing flashy or ostentatious just good food and good service. Nothing ( without spoiling its character )
- Tracy (5/5): Passable -
- Robert (10/5): - What a lovely place! The owners are lovely and the food was amazing and very well priced, definitely going to be staying again when I’m back in the area
- Daryl (8/5): Very good -
- Judith (1/5): Bad - The food was good. We noticed the bed bugs too late. Can't recommended staying here.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Trevor (8/5): Very good - Very friendly staff & helpful evening meals were good & breakfast was exceptional set me up for the day, The skylight window in my bedroom didn't open so was a bit warm but there was a fan in the room to help still slept ok
- Simon (8/5): Great location comfortable stay - Relaxed atmosphere Nothing really
- Peter (8/5): Friendly place to stay. - Breakfast was good
- Wayne (5/5): Passable -
- Peter (8/5): Most satisfactory. - Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cereal, juice and cooked food. Nothing I can think of.
- Tonymmorris (8/5): Very good - Nice staff, great breakfast Could do with a little TLC
- Fiona (9/5): A very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with friendly service. - The room was ready for us when we arrived, although we were about half an hour early. As we have stayed there several times previously the owner recognised us and greeted us in a very friendly way. One suggestion which would be lovely if at all possible would be a small fridge so occupants could have fresh milk for the beverages supplied, rather than long life milk. As with Global Warming the summer weather is likely to be very hot, visitors could also keep cold drinks at a pleasant temperature.
- Purnell (6/5): Friendly place. - Staff and other customers friendly. Room basic but comfortable. Obviously Railway Inn backs onto the railway line. Woken at 4am by a very long fright train which shakes the hotel!
Message on the bedroom wall which says 'don't forget your charger we won't be able to post it to you' felt a bit unwelcoming!
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Bruce (9/5): A really lovely overnight stay. - Excellent food especially breakfast!
- Yehor (8/5): Stay in July 2025 for an event on the science campus - The owner, staff, and the dog were friendly, the interior (and exterior) were lovely, the location was very convenient, the breakfast and the bar were good. My main concern was the shower, which was a bit old and untidy, and more importantly the showerhead that did not work properly
- Dave (8/5): Very good - Very welcoming and good value
- Angela (7/5): Convenient for what we needed, showeroom, needs a bit of tlc, t - Location great for the Culham science campus The smell of dog in the restaurant
- Christopher (6/5): - Railway memorabilia was of interest; a broken chain on the wash hand basin plug was annoying.
There were no instructions for finding the property which was difficult. The property was actually in Culham and not Abingdon
- Paul (8/5): - Great value for money.
- Anne (9/5): enjoyed the venue and will return again if in area - Good pub food and atmosphere Unfortunatly it was the hottest 2 nights of the year
but a fan had been supplied.........
The black out blind had been left closed but.
Not sure if leaving the velux window open all day
was best way of keeping room cool.....in this type of weather
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (8/5): Very convenient for what we wanted even though we had to drive to the Thames. Pauline was lovely very helpful and would - The property was great for the money. Food served was excellent and staff were great. There were very steep steps to the room. For an active 80 year old it was too much. Right by train station which was not a problem and very handy for Oxford. It so hot so had to had windows open no problem with train noise but road noise seemed worse
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Kay (5/5): Disappointing. - The area was lovely and the cooked breakfast was good. It wasn't very clean, it was dusty and dirty. The room was very small and only had a window in the roof so no air was coming in.
The evening meal wasn't great quality as they use frozen vegetables.
No fruit provided for breakfast and only one hot drink per person was permissable. Only 2 options of cereals.
- Susan (2/5): - Will not stay here again.
- Ian (10/5): - Helpful friendly host. Overall a good stay and would use this accommodation again.
- Barry (7/5): Good - Simple clean & tidy room with great pub food TV a tad small
- Bill (8/5): Very good - Very friendly and good value for money. The trains really are quite loud.
- Ar (8/5): Good Inn, I'll be back next time I travel to Didcot. - Little cosy Inn, not fancy but had all I needed for a two-night stay.
Next to the train station, so easy to get to Didcot. The train noise was NOT disturbing.
Breakfast was good as well as dinner. The water pressure in the shower on the 2nd floor was too low, and sometimes I had to wait a couple of minutes for any water to come out of the shower.
- Peter (7/5): Friendly staff and good value - The staff were very friendly and hard-working and the place had a good atmosphere. The food (dinner and breakfast) was great value and tasty. Bathroom mirror light did not work.
- martin (10/5): - Brilliant, lovely stay, friendly staff and owner
- Matthew (1/5): Awful would not recommend - Nothing Everything - noisy and smelly
- Lee (6/5): - Friendly host.
Location very quiet
Pub and accomodation very dated but clean.
Ok for one night.
- Paul (10/5): Great place to stay - Why stay in a bland hotel chain when you can stay here where there are really friendly people, the food is good and the room clean and comfortable?
- Craig (10/5): Little gem - Great location, staff and food. Nothing
- Robert (7/5): Friendly people -
