Guest Reviews
- Russo (9/5): - Posizione e pulizia
- Kristina (7/5): Nice beach hotel - It has a very nice beach and is close to the archeological site. The breakfast was good and the stuff was nice. The bathroom is quite old.
The restaurant is nice but very expansive.
- Monika (10/5): -
- Andreas (10/5): - Strandnähe, Meersicht Alles ok
- Elena Anna (10/5): - Struttura deliziosa, piccola e curata, praticamente sulla spiaggia.
Gestione che definire gentilissima è poco. Disponibili, attenti, cortesi. Nulla

- Petr (7/5): The stay was disappointing due to a dirty, outdated bathroom, creaky bed, unfriendly staff, and the extra cost for parki - The breakfast was good, though not exceptional. I liked the balcony with a sea view and the parking, although it was paid, which was a downside. The bathroom was disastrous – the toilet was dirty, the shower drain wasn’t working, the shower hose was mounted under the ceiling, making it impossible to use for washing your legs, and it leaked, spraying water everywhere. The whole bathroom looked old. The bed was extremely creaky, so much so that you could hear it in the hallway. Parking was paid, and the staff weren’t very friendly.
- Simona (10/5): Very pleasant and relaxing stay - Great location, friendly and helpful staff, very good facilities The room was excellent, but soundproofing in between rooms is not great. If you had noisy neighbours, you'd hear them
- Todd (9/5): Superb -
- Jan (10/5): Very nice beach hotel in Paestum! - Friendly family run hotel, located near the archeological park of Paestum, and next to the beautiful beach.
We were upgraded to a room with sea view upon arrival, by the friendly receptionist.
The hotel has its own very good seafood restaurant: Recommended! Nothing not to like about this hotel!
- Henry (10/5): A great off the beaten path place for a great beach weekend - The staff, the amenities, the restaurant, the room, the closeness to the beach. Nothing
- Florencio (9/5): Superb -
- Griffiths (9/5): Good location for Paestum visit and nice food - An unpretentious hotel on the seafront, with it's own private beach area and a rather good restaurant. Warm welcome. Motorbike parking in their secured parking area. Walking distance from Paestum which was the objective of our visit (and is well worthwhile). A lovely dinner. Charging hotel clients for a beach towel and warm shower on the beach - but maybe someone else owns that space.
- Camelia (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (7/5): Good -
- Anthony (9/5): Clean, quiet, close to ruins. - Everything was excellent, lovely staff It was a bit of a walk if you wanted to go into the little town area.
- Anthony (6/5): Other than AC no major problems, restaurant expensive by my desire but food was good - Really close to the beach AC is not good enough for sleeping…. I am not sure if it gets hotter in the middle of the night for some reason but both nights there I woke up regularly and slept terrible
- TFQA (10/5): Nice hotel with great restaurant - We spent two ,nights and had dinner one evening at the hotel. The room was well equipped and had a great view of the sea. One review complained about the air conditioning. It was not obvious how the thermostat worked (it would be good to explain to arriving guests) but the AC worked fine (and it was hot when we were there). We had no issues with noise (another complaint in a review). Nice bathroom and shower. The hotel has a nice private beach. Staff were helpful. We had dinner one night at the hotel restaurant and it was excellent (seafood). Prices seemed to us quite reasonable at the restaurant. Paestum, the nearby archaeological site is fantastic.
- Rosemary (3/5): Poor - location room
lacked amanities, staff untrained, all outlets were hidden behind furniture, too basic for price
- Karnas (10/5): Pleasantly surprised with how nice the hotel is. - Very good hotel. It is in a lovely spot, near many good places to go. The ruins of Paestum are only a 10 min walk, as our lovely restaurants and the town of Paestum. The staff are friendly, the hotel restaurant was exceptional. Great rooms, and very clean. The beach was fairly unkept, and dirty…..not the hotels fault.
- Bradly (8/5): Very good -
- 831pial (10/5): Charming Hotel with excellent Restaurant - On our way south from Naples we take the road along the sea. Most of the Hotels were closed (End of October). We drank coffee at a nice Beach where we discovered the Hotel Mandetta. We stayed for 9 days, enjoyed the beach and ate at the Restaurant, which is great. We had really delicious Dinners every evening.
I can imagine that it is much more lively in the high season, but for a relaxing holiday in the autumn, there is no better place.
- Cristoforo (8/5): Non pienamente soddisfatto!!!
- Tartaruga1410 (10/5): Fish perfection - After all the pizza and pasta, and after a day of tasting mozzarella di buffala we weren’t so hungry. We were looking for a light dinner and found it! At first sceptical because the dining area isn’t exactly romantically lit, we soon forgot about it once we tasted their salt fish. Absolutely perfect, nothing else to ask for. Also I was craving artichokes, had them and was fully satisfied. Had a tiramisu for dessert- it was like a small bowl of surprises with big crunchy chocolate bits! The owner was extremely welcoming, friendly and put a smile on our faces. What memorable excellent quality food with super cute friendly staff.
- Overstone (6/5): Not as good as it first appears - Nice looking hotel, but there were a few issues. Firstly the offhand attitude of reception staff, secondly we were offered a double room when we had booked a twin and most serious of all an ancient air con system that barely worked at all. There is no lift and no help offered with luggage.
The room was pleasant enough and had a good sized bathroom, there was also a nice balcony but some noise from a nearby amusement arcade during the evening. We investigated the restaurant, but were put off by the high prices. Breakfast the following morning was an odd affair with pretty crockery - but plastic knives! Usual Italian fare heavy on cake with the waitress/receptionist urging us to try some bright pink meringues.
After checking out I was pursued by the waitress/receptionist for a security card as she resolutely refused to believe I had already handed it to her colleague. Extraordinary behaviour.
Good sized car park and a short drive to the famous temples, it is also close to the sea, so on paper a good choice, but the faulty air con was a real problem in the summer heat.
- burnii (2/5): Overall terrible experience! - We stayed at this hotel in June after staying here numerous times in previous years. On previous visits we were not particularly impressed but returned here again as close family who live close in the area are friendly with hotel managers and booked us rooms for our 4 night stay.
Greeting on arrival was initially quite pleasant and we were very surprised given our experience in previous years! We were offered drinks whilst we waited for our room to become available which seemed very out of character.
For breakfast the options were very limited; the toaster didn't work for one (you'd have to wait your week stay to get a decently-cooked piece of toast), the 'hot water' for tea/coffee was luke-warm and staff watched over us like prison guards, as if examining every piece of food we chose to eat.
The rooms were relatively clean albeit the beds were rock hard. It felt like a table with a bed sheet over it making it near impossible to get a good nights sleep. Wi-fi connection in the rooms was good (and probably the best thing about this hotel).
On check-out we went to the front desk and the face of manager, Rita, had completely changed. It's as though as our stay went on she became more and more abrupt and unfriendly. We were charged €80 more than was stated on initial booking, and after checking the room rates on sites such as booking.com and Expedia found that we had actually been charged more than their most expensive room for a stay in the start of June! I was completely disgusted to say the least!
Overall our experience at this hotel was terrible and we were completely had over by the management of the hotel. I will never ever stay at this hotel again and would really recommend you avoid it like the plague!
- 975katrinal (10/5): Perfect location - Lovely hotel with great staff and fantastic food. Breakfast is buffet style with homemade cakes and local produce. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Right opposite the beach. Easy couple of minute drive to the ruins at Paestum which are well worth a visit.
- _llet2015 (8/5): 3 wonderful days just 100 m from the sea - The hotel is very close to the water front and the atmosphere inside is very elegant, but at the same time not too kitschy as many other hotels in the neighbourhood. We staid for 3 night during a business trip. Usually I go for business in Paestum several times a year, as I travelled by car i booked this time this place to stay near the sea.
The room was nice and clean, with a little balcony and sea view. We also liked very much the breakfast witch was mostly mediterranean, but with some continental selection too.
As the breakfast was great, we decided one evening to try also the restaurant in the hall, but it was a disappointment! They serve mostly fish, but the tastes are nothing special, the portions are very modest, and the prices definitely far too expensive for what we got! There are many other lovely places in Paestum, where you can really have fantastic dinner and pay a fear price!
- Bojabes (8/5): Very nice place - My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Mandetta for a couple of nights in September. Really nice family-run hotel on a clean sandy beach. You can walk to the Paestum ruins in twenty minutes or borrow a hotel bike to get there. The restaurant serves up great food and the rooms are clean. We found the staff to be very kind and welcoming.
- 814lilab (2/5): Awful - We had a miserable experience at this hotel. The welcome was very unpleasant, insults, contempt, no less. Breakfast was disgusting, for my part I did not eat anything, midges around rotten fruit and not fresh bread ... _ not worthy of a grand hotel. The welcome at breakfast was mortal, the staff at this hotel is either aggressive or depressive. we just want to run away very quickly and go to a new place for real vacation. I do not recommend it, plus it is very noisy: we heard slots games, play, dogs barking, short silence was not at the rendezvous. Only good point: the rooms are spacious and there is a parking lot, for against no elevator and rooms are on the first floor.
- cg100a (4/5): A real review of this hotel - I've been traveling for almost 6 months now and realise the importance of helping others with realistic and honest reviews. So much of booking hotels is reading between the lines. Here is an honest review of the Mandetta Hotel.
We booked an apartment at the Mandetta Hotel for two nights. We were keen on an apartment to cook a little and have some space.
When we arrived, the friendly and professional staff immediately offered us an upgrade to a hotel room with a sea view. Unfortunately the bed was brick hard and ofcourse this small room had no cooking facilities. We noticed the room next door was open and empty - and we sat on the bed to test it and found the bed to be very comfortable. Unfortunately when we asked - the answer was we could not change to that room. Fair enough - we understand that there may be a specific client request for that room.
So we moved to the apartment.
These are effectively around the back in the carpark. They are a flat roofed construction with a little hothouse kitchenette in front and a room and bathroom behind.
Issues with the apartment:
1. Kitchen is totally bare
There is NOTHING in the kitchen. Not a pot, pan, spoon or fork. Nada ! We've stayed in many apartments in Italy and Europe. All were equipped. How useless is an apartment rental with nothing to cook with ? We asked about this situation and requested some cooking utensils etc. We got given four plastic cups.
2. The room is similar to a prison cell with bars on the windows, iron beds, the lack of light and the low ceilings.
3. The airconditioner seemed around 20 years old did not work. It blew out hot air. It just had a control for 1,2 and 3 speeds but no temperature control. It just did not work at all.
4. In the bathroom a hairdryer fitting was pulled away from the wall exposing bare electrical cables. In a wet bathroom - we stayed away from that.
5. The shower water was tepid (not hot and barely warm) and sprayed all over the toilet (located next to it so no chance to avoid this).
6. The door to the bedroom could not be locked. Only the outer door to the apartment which was less than secure.
We stayed for the night and then bailed the next morning.
We also spoke to an UK couple who experienced no aircon or hot water in their hotel room. A Russian family in one of the apartments also complained about no kitchen equipment.
Positives:
There are positives about this hotel.
1. The hotel staff were always professional and courteous.
2. The place is definitely very clean. The cleaning staff were excellent and friendly.
3. There was onsite parking.
4. The location next to the beach and close to the ruins is great.
5. The hotel only charged us for one night (eventhough we'd booked for two and left at 10am).
6. We used the bikes that were provided and free.
- Creamy7777 (6/5): Satisfactory - The people running this place are really friendly. Maybe it is good to advise tourist to stay in the hotel, not the nearby apartments. We stayed in one of these so-called apartments / something like bungalows/. Although it was spacious, the furniture was outdated. Moreover, we had 2 of 2 noisy nights.
The restaurants is beautiful, but very expensive, 3 euros per person per service.
- CarolK514 (10/5): Special Place - The location of this very fine hotel is fantastic. It is within walking distance of the archeological site and temples, on a gorgeous beach, and part of a wonderful summer vacation in the country setting. There is also an excellent restaurant in the hotel and very friendly and helpful family staff members.
- 808SilviaS (10/5): The Perfect find! - Hotel Madetta.....The perfect find!!!!!!!! We adored it here! Beach, Roman Ruins, food, bycycles , a very friendly family run hotel . The restaurant is NOT to be missed!!! We would most definetly return here!
- phils_dad (10/5): We had a great short break at the Mandetta - We stopped for two days in this smallish hotel on the sea front at Paestum. We travelled further south and were so disappointed we came back and stayed another two nights. We had a lovely clean room overlooking the beach. It was October and very quiet and a lot of the surrounding amenities were closed. The hotel's restaurant specialises in sea food and the dinners were wonderful. On one evening the owned beckoned me into the kitchen to show me the fresh seafood that had been delivered that same afternoon. The owner and his family gave us a wonderful welcome and I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel HOWEVER I have no idea how it would be at busy times.
