- Age3 (8/5): - Really nice space, plenty of room and facilities were ample, it felt like a home. Cooking was outside under the Verandah, being 40 degrees that day it was a little inconvenience.
- Clare (9/5): Excellent place to stay - It was a quirky and fun place. Beautifully dark at night. First time I’ve slept in an underground home and I’d happily do it again!

- Rayleen (10/5): Clean, comfortable & well appointed. Shona was friendly & welcoming. We’d definitely stay again if we were in Co - Amazingly clean. Perfect quiet location just out of town. - Steve (10/5): Felt right at home and would love to have stayed longer. - Whole house to ourselves, great undercover cooking facilities and continental breakfast included. A couple of minutes south of town and really quiet. Host was fantastic and super friendly on check in. Gave us a good run through of where switches were and how to operate coffee machine. Took the opportunity to cook in this stay and had no issues using the facilities and cleaning areas well accessible. Host has sensor lights on stairs so you can make you way to bathroom in the night without searching for switches Pillows a bit on the low and soft side, though that is subjective and not a criticism at all for this great home.

We absolutely loved our time staying at Down To Erth B&B. Hosts Shona and Trent were simply amazing to deal with, so incredibly friendly and helpful on all aspects from best places to see as well as fun for the kids ‘noodling’ for opals right under their carport at the dugout! 100% recommend coming to stay here to anyone looking for a unique and friendly stay! Nothing to dislike about this property at all.

You have the whole apartment, Spotlessly clean. All equipment you could need to cater for yourself, large fridge, air frier and, hotplate. Complimentary cerial, milk and butter provided..but best of all.. a Nesspresso machine with a great selection of coffee to go with it 😀 It's an unusual experience,to sleep in a rock 'dugout'. It is constantly temperate, not hot or cold.
We would definitely recommend staying here. Different 😊

- Brenda (10/5): Exceedingly pleasant and more than was ever expected. Clean, beautifully appointed, absolute delight - Breakfast was supplied including cereals and bread for toasting. All that was needed when travelling. No complaints. Owner met us at the door and took us through the establishment, friendly, informative and immediately likeable. Was available at all times but no interference at all. The siting of this place was fabulous, not quite in town so quiet, safe and right in the middle of opal fields. N/A. Did not dislike anything, just had to adjust to no water in the kitchen area downstairs, but was only a staircase away.

- Kingston (9/5): Wonderful place for a short or long stay. Peaceful and quiet and friendly, helpful hosts. - The underground experience is must do in Coober Pedy. Down to Earth has everything you need for a long stay. A variety of cooking options, all sorts of bowls, plates, cutlery etc. a very quiet location out of town. Friendly and helpful hosts next door. Not a “didn’t like” but just a warning; there are a lot of steps involved. The dugout goes down, not just into the hillside. I didn’t think about that when I I chose it and we had my elderly mum with us. It became quite tiring for her to get up and down the stairs, which you need to do quite a bit as the water and bathroom facilities are upstairs and the living areas down. So if you have people for whom stairs are a bit of a challenge I’d recommend a dugout that goes horizontally in and has minimal stairs. Mum only tripped once and caught herself but we were all on edge for our stay haha! She also was quite tired by the end of it. Again, no criticism of Down To Earth. The photos clearly showed the steps down, I just didn’t think about the impact on mum
- Emily (10/5): This place made me wish I could live underground all the time - An opportunity to experience underground living in a clean, comfortable, spacious home.
So much thought has gone into making this a lovely place to stay. From the ample breakfast supplies, BBQ and outdoor area to the many brochures and helpful advice on things to do in the area. Easy to access in a 2WD hire car. Safe and quiet. NA
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Rosanne (10/5): Will be back. - When it comes to working when on the road it is hard to beat this very clean and well ventilated dugout in the quietest and safest part of Coober Pedy, especially with its Telstra phone signal boosting and its reliable wifi.
Good BBQ and air fryer for healthy cooking without creating smells in sleeping areas. This accommodation has been very well designed and equipped.
Only suggestion I could think of would be a kettle for tea and instant coffee in the BBQ area.
- Antoinette (10/5): Shona our hostess is exceptionally warm and helpful , whilst respectfully allowing us our space and privacy; so thankyou - Exceptional eye for detail of amenities in all parts of the home Can’t think of a thing
- Emma (10/5): Unique and fabulous! - Very unique accommodation in a very unique place! Very clean and comfortable B&B. Thank you 😀
- Andrea (10/5): Clean, friendly and amazing. - The hosts were amazing. Went above and beyond. The place was so clean, immaculate. And anything and everything was provided. Nothing!
- Ramona (10/5): Delightful, private and clean accommodation perfect for the Coober Pedy experience. - Shona is the perfect hostess who met us upon arrival and showed us around. The house is perfect for the true getaway. It is private, near town and is very clean. Everything is provided that you could need. This accommodation is perfect for the dugout experience. Highly recommend. Nothing comes to mind.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Manu (10/5): Was a birthday getaway trip and could not have asked for more! - A perfect "Coober Pedy experience" accommodation that has been carved out of the local sandstone! Has everything you would need and a lot more, including a rather large outdoor alfresco area next to your covered parking spot. Really well maintained, clean and quality fitments/equipment. The hosts are super nice and helpful. They let us have our privacy and also had quality chats with us when we approached them.
- Vilius (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Felt like you were in your own little house. Two bedrooms and living area with kitchen bar and bathroom underground and a lovely enclosed area above ground with stove, bbq, air fryer, washing machine. Loved it so much we cooked in both nights. Thanks to our hosts Trevor and Shona for sharing this with us.
- Greg (9/5): Great stay in an interesting dugout - Spacious accommodation, great hosts, underground experience, outside dining and BBQ area, overall finish of flooring and walls. Minor - steps around breakfast bar. Otherwise, nothing to dislike.
- Jillian (10/5): A comfortable interesting place to stay. Very pleasant hostess. -
- Anne-marie (10/5): Exceptional - Down to Erth B&B is delightful, spotlessly clean and equipped beyond expectation. Not just the underground accomodation……there is an enormous screened kitchen and dining room at ground level, and a separate outdoor bbq area. Add the washing machine and covered washing line and living is a breeze. Breakfast provisions consist of cereals, milk, bread and butter and Vegemite for toast. Also coffee, teas and pods for the coffee machine. Thank you again to Shona, her husband and Coco for the warm hospitality and chats. We really enjoyed our stay. Nothing
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Katherine (10/5): Thank you Shona and Trevor for this magical experience underground in Coober Pedy. -
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): It was a great experience enjoying a nice quiet cave just outside the main township. - Location is a bit out of town, which is a good thing, really clear nights with out to much light pollution gave clear view of stars and great sunsets. The BNB section is nice and secluded and there was enough space for us to park our (low roof) caravan and car tucked away from the road which is nice.
The kitchen is a touch split with the microwave/toaster in the dug out, the dishwasher in the laundry bathroom, and the main cooking in the alfresco area. A touch odd coming from a conventional house however it makes sense as there is only plumbing up on the top section and clearly its a good idea to keep food and its smells out of the dug out. The second bedroom only has a privacy wall to the main living space so if your kids are light sleepers it may be a problem.
It was clean, beds were comfy, temp was a very stable ~20 degrees with out heating/cooling even with night time outside temps hitting 0 degrees in the middle of winter. There was a decent collection of Australian movies on DVD, a few local magazines, and even a couple of Australian specific board games.
We really enjoyed the experience and checking out the answer to the question, 'could we live in a cave', with the answer being if we lived in coober pedy, yes.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - First time in Coober Pedy and the hosts were amazing from checking in, to providing information about the town and surrounding sites. Very helpful and friendly. The house was clean and inviting with all amenities. Highly recommend the experience of staying in a cave house at ‘Down2Erth’.
- Mary (9/5): The real Coober Pedy experience in comfortable surroundings. - That we were able to have the Coober Pedy real experience by staying in a dug out. That there was no sink in the kitchen.
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Spotlessly clean. Pleasant and helpful host. (Nothing)
- Kurugamage (10/5): Exceptional - Host was amazing and soo flexible also helpfull. Will stay there for the second time for sure. Nothing
- Celia (10/5): Fantastic underground experience - Amazing hosts and home. Very comfortable. Had everything you could want just underground!
- Rebecca (9/5): Great experience, great unique little town - It felt homey, unique to Coober Pedy It was a little pricey for $300 a night
