- Reservations are required for private bath/onsen. Reservations can be made by contacting the ryokan prior to arrival, using the contact information on the booking confirmation.
- Children 2 years old and younger stay free when occupying the parent or guardian's room, using existing bedding.
- The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare requires all international visitors to submit their passport number and nationality when registering at any lodging facility (inns, hotels, motels, etc. ). Additionally, lodging proprietors are required to photocopy passports for all registering guests and keep the photocopy on file.

I recommend getting a private bath for 30 minutes. It is well worth it. Food was amazing and so much of it. You won’t be hungry. If you are visiting Japan and want to experience a ryokan, this is the best. Amazing decor, nice hot baths, sleeping on a tatami mat and having unique Japanese meals - this is your place for these. The shuttle they have going to and from the station makes it easier to get around.

The room was clean and well maintained giving a the traditional ryokan experience. We particularly enjoyed the amazing guest experience provided by Tsutsui and would recommended this hotel for anyone wanting to experience great views of Fuji and unwind as the hotel is located in a quieter section of the town.

- silked393 (10/5): Unique experience by Fuji san - My fiancé and I stayed at this hotel for three nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff were very attentive and accommodating, especially our dinner server, Itou, who made us feel very welcome every evening and we enjoyed learning about each other’s cultures. The private bath was very hot but relaxing and soothed our aching feet. We also had a hot spring bath on our balcony in our traditional Japanese room which we used every day and it had a beautiful view of the lake. The food was exceptional and we got to try lots of new things we’d never eaten before. The location is a little out of the main town but the walk along the lake was worthwhile and not too far.

From the start when we first entered and throughout our 3 nights stay, we were well served and could feel the kindness of the staff. Staff would greet us and they just know the perfect timing to make our futon beds or clean up our rooms - a seamless experience and attention to detail. The dinner course meals were delicious, where there was a variety of cooking methods for each item on the menu. It is totally worth the money. The location is quiet and conducive to just relax, as we have great views of the lake and Mt fuji. Our room has a private onsen facing the Mt fuji, which is picturesque.

This ryokan offered impeccable hospitality, every staff member was warm, attentive, and thoughtful. We stayed in a room with a breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji, and enjoyed a peaceful breakfast overlooking a beautiful lake, pure bliss. The kaiseki dinner and traditional breakfast were outstanding, both in taste and presentation. You can tell everything was prepared with care and detail. The only small downside was the futon bedding, a bit firm for our liking and the pillows were quite thin. But that’s part of the traditional experience, and it didn’t take away from how much we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic, scenic, and relaxing escape in Japan!

Pros - Amazing hospitality from check-in through to leaving - once in a life time experience with in room dining, sleeping on a futon on the floor - beautiful views of Mount Fuji - onsen experience is amazing - again with breath taking views - pick up and drop off shuttle to and from Kawaguchiko station - very peaceful and relaxing - all water is straight from the mountain - traditional Japanese clothing provided for your stay Cons - the in room dinner and breakfast are set and do not consider dietary requirements. It’s a take or leave it type of mentality - this is Japanese food and this is what you will eat. Whilst I appreciate this is what you sign up for, consideration of intolerances/allergies or other dietary requirements should be considered. In my case I was pregnant during the trip and could not eat much of the raw sea food. Was left hungry with no local shops nearby. The closest was back near the station.

All the staff was so helpful and friends especially dear Nina. She was just lovely, every meal was traditional and excellent. If they could approve anywhere it would be with coffee. They don’t offer any during breakfast and the only option is the odd pour over tea bag type coffee in the room. We just walked down the road to get some. They did have a cafe but it didn’t open early and not sure what it served, but we did love our stay. Location is excellent. We walked everywhere. Shuttle service was great!

Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi - We stayed at Wakakusa no Yado Maruei for one night with our toddler son, and the hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff was, without saying, very friendly and welcoming. The staff took great care in making sure we had a good stay, including the meticulously served dinner and breakfast (a special kudos to Aki, who served us a wonderful dinner). Both meals were an experience in themselves, and the food was delicious. The hotel facilities were well-maintained and very clean, including our traditional Japanese-style room and the bathing areas. Even though the tatami was a new experience for us, the room was very comfortable and had a great view of the lake. After dinner time, a gentleman came in and set the bed for us. The hotel is not within walking distance of the bus terminal/train station. However, following the hotel's instructions emailed to us, getting to the hotel is easy once we have scheduled and found the hotel shuttle (located on the other side of the historic train car on display). There are almost no restaurants and stores nearby, but then we wouldn't have ventured out during our stay anyway. Instead, we relished the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere at and around the hotel. Besides taking turns to enjoy the baths, we also booked a private bath session so that our son could experience the hot bath. All of the baths were very clean, and each had a well-equipped changing area. The open-air baths also had a great view of either Mt. Fuji or Lake Kawaguchi. We also went to the roof observation deck to see the sunrise. We had a great time at Maruei and were glad that we chose this hotel for our first Mt. Fuji and ryokan experience.

Cons • We arrived at 1:30 and couldn’t check in until 2pm and were told to come back at that time – a bit on an inconvenience • Meals couldn’t be customised which was fine, and we knew about this in advance. We had asked how much beef was included in the evening meal as we were deciding whether to eat out or at the hotel, but the staff did not understand. We took a risk and there was hardly any beef included which worked out fine

Hard to compare with other travel destinations. The lake and Mt Fuji are spectacular. All the staff are wonderful, yet two that really stood out Nina and Fuyu. Both are stars, beyond helpful and nice. They made our trip next level enjoyable, with extraordinary personal attention.
- tsnordstrom (10/5): Excellent service and phenomenal views. - We enjoyed our 4 day stay here. The hotel is well appointed, and our rooms were large, comfortable with a wonderful view of the lake. I have to mention that the dinners were not only delicious but very creatively prepared. I really appreciated the thought given to the preparation and presentation. Special thanks to Fuka Tsistui who was our dinner time hostess the entirety of our stay. She is just lovely and took very good care of us and also checked on us at breakfast. Overall, the service and hospitality was excellent. My only suggestion for improvement is to please consider serving coffee at breakfast. So many people appreciate it over tea and it's not very hospitable to tell someone that it's green tea or nothing…unless they want to get up from the breakfast table, go downstairs, order and pay for a coffee then return to breakfast.

We couldn't have been happier with what we got, the room was a perfect combination of tradition and opulence. The rooftop deck is stunning, with no better panorama of the Kawaguchiko and Fuji possible on this side of the lake. I would definitely recommend using the open air baths and book the private bath with fuji views in the morning

The overall service throughout our stay was excellent as well—warm, thoughtful, and seamless in a way that made us feel truly cared for. The room itself was interesting and authentic, but less about comfort and more about tradition. As a side sleeper, I found the futons a bit too firm, and during the day, with the beds put away, there wasn’t really a cozy spot to relax. That said, the setting and atmosphere make up for it if you’re looking for a cultural experience rather than a plush stay. The complimentary shuttle to and from the train station was also a helpful touch. Overall, this ryokan is perfect for those wanting to immerse themselves in Japanese tradition and enjoy some of the best meals you’ll ever have.

- Presdiente (8/5): Great staff make a great hotel. - This a very nice hotel /ryokan with very helpful and welcoming staff. Everyone works to make you feel welcome and appreciated. All the staff that we met spoke English. The dinners and breakfasts were amazing. So many tasty dishes. The room had good air-conditioning, and a nice view of the lake. The indoor onsen was spacious and very clean. The provided amenities (shampoo, lotions etc) were good. The onsens swap at lunchtime so that men and women get to try both. One onsen on Level 1 has nice garden view. The other one has view of a wall and some sky. There is an outdoor onsen on Level 5, but it really doesnt have a view because of the walls are built up so that you can only see the sky. The website shows a view of Mt Fuji, from an onsen- I think his must be the private onsen which you can hire (we didn't). Otherwise to see Mt Fuji you need to climb up a narrow ladder-like staircase on to the roof. Its not suitable if you're scared of heights. And I don't think it would be safe in wind, rain, or snow. If you come by train, the hotel shuttle will pick you up from the station. We caught the hotel shuttle into town in the morning then bought the bus day pass for 1500 yen which was very convenient to see all the tourist sights. One of the bus routes has a stop at the front door of the hotel.
- SHAOKAO (4/5): - The Indian / Bangladeshi guy managing the front desk was not hospitable. Plus the they wanted to charge 600 yen for a bucket of ice.

The traditional Japanese experience was so nice to have. Breakfast and diner were perfect, more than we could have hoped for. Special thanks to the lady and man who served us at the diner table, as well to the man who responded to all our questions at the reception! (English was also very good!)

- victorlF3988RJ (10/5): Great time at lake Kawaguchiko - A wonderful ryokan with good service. Coming as American tourists who know a few simple Japanese phrases, we got to the area via bus from Tokyo station. The fujikawaguchiko station has a tourist center. They speak basic English and if you tell them you are staying at this hotel, they will ask you for your name and country of origin. Then they will call the ryokan to confirm your reservation. Then you will be directed next to the tourist center, where all of the ryokan and hotel shuttles come to pick you up. At most a 10-15 minute wait. Then you are brought to the hotel for a quick check in and orientation of the hotel at the front desk. Then there is a free matcha drink waiting for you at the lobby area. Your bags are taken up to your room. The rooms are quite spacious. Most rooms face the lake, from my understanding. There is an observation deck on the roof where you can see Mt Fuji on a clear day. They will ask you for your preferred dinner time at check in. Dinner is served in your room, a multicourse/plate meal. Basic English instructions. No substitutions or dietary allergies allowed, which was okay for us. At dinner, they will ask for preferred breakfast time in the shared dining room. In the mornings, they have free shuttle back to the train station, which you can take to start your tour around the lake. Bicycles and e-bikes are also available to rent close by. There are public onsens which switch sides between genders to give everyone a chance to see the different views. There is also a private onsen you must reserve and pay for in person for a direct view of Mt Fuji.

We opted in for dinner and breakfast and I’m so glad we did! It was a phenomenal food experience and well worth it; I highly recommend it. We felt very lucky that the weather cooperated enough to give us some gorgeous views of Mt. Fuji from our Japanese style room. We did not use the public baths but did reserve the private bath a couple times, which was pleasant and had a beautiful view of Fujisan. Our entire stay was truly relaxing and rejuvenating.

Everybody was friendly, the service from all the staff was above and beyond and the rooms were all super clean, even if it wasn't a modern hotel. My favourite was the 5th floor outdoor onsen, while we also booked a room with a view of Mt Fuji and a personal onsen which was super handy as we only saw Mt Fuji at sunrise during our trip so we did not have to leave our rooms at dawn. - SaraandBrian (10/5): Wonderful stay! - I did a lot of research on ryokans, hunting for one with a private onsen for our 11 year old twins, and a reasonable price for a single night. Wakakusa totally worked and our kids loved it!! The place is nice and relaxing. The dinner spread and the view of Mt. Fuji was memorable! We got in a 4pm (deadline was 5pm) and all private onsen slots were available except the one slot at sunset. So we squeezed in our private onsen visit before our huge dinner, and then I used the public one again at 9pm and I was the only one there. The place felt a little 80s but it was quite endearing (almost like the Poconos in the US) and we loved how authentic it felt. The bed on the floor was a bit hard for us, but we tend to like a soft mattress. Yes it's a bit of effort to get to but one night was just perfect and I am so happy we included it in our itinerary! Included pic of shuttle bus... definitely wouldn't try to walk it..shuttle was simple!

Although Mt Fuji was cloudy, the stay here made our trip to Fujikawaguchiko more than worth it! Gorgeous traditional rooms opened up onto the most beautiful lake view through a stunning picture window. Our dinner was a masterpiece of detail; we got to try so many traditional dishes and our host was incredibly kind in explaining them to us. The onsens are beautiful and my skin has never felt so soft! Staff was kind and helpful even though we speak hardly any Japanese and hasn’t stayed at a Ryokan before, so needed some extra help. It was an amazing cultural experience to feel Japanese hospitality in a tradition that goes back so far. We were honored to share this experience. Thank you to everyone who made our visit special! We will definitely return!

Beside, the mattress was thin & you're sleeping on the hard flooring ...not used to it as it causes backache when you wake up in the morning. Moreover, there's no AC during our stay and they provided a fan for the room air circulation. On the good rating, the staff are conscientious & diligent. The half board breakfast & dinner menu are different on each day.
