- John (10/5): Great traditional Ryokan with classic Japanese breakfasts and dinners. - There was a private bath with a round tub about 1 meter deep and 1 meter in diameter. The pool was fed by the hot springs so you could adjust the temperature to as hot as you desired. They had a public bath as well, but soaking in the hot tub after traveling or sightseeing was just heaven.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect - Everything was wonderful, the staff were great, especially Konatsu
- Jaslyn (10/5): Amazing unforgettable experience. - Everything about the place was amazing. The people, scenery and hospitality are superb. This is the most luxurious place we have ever been to and we're so glad to have spent our honeymoon here. The breakfast and dinner are scrumptious and always with the finest ingredients. The private Onsen is awesome for introverts as we're shy to use the public ones. Highly recommend anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience!

- Katherine (10/5): Authentic Ryokan Experience with Exceptional Hospitality - A wonderful traditional ryokan experience at Furuya Ryokan during my Tokyo Marathon trip. The room was peaceful, the onsen was incredibly relaxing, and the kaiseki dinner was beautifully prepared.
A special thank you to Masako-san, who took care of our kaiseki dinner and breakfast and made our stay very welcoming for me and my mother.
My mother also accidentally left her iPhone in a taxi. When we returned to the ryokan, the staff quickly helped contact the taxi company and the phone was delivered back to us within 20 minutes. We were very grateful for their help.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing ryokan experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

- Nan Jun (10/5):
- Nan Jun (10/5):
- Jessica (8/5): Absolutely amazing food in a great location, including cherry blossoms! - Our visit highlights: incredible food and hospitality provided by Meri. She took great care of us and made our stay so lovely. We enjoyed walking in town, especially seeing some cherry trees blooming in January! We took a bus to see plum trees blooming, and hiked to see beautiful and peaceful Kinomiya Shrine. The ryokan location is an easy walk from the shinkansen. We really had too much food! The onsen in our room was lovely. The public bath was fine, but not very scenic.
It would have been helpful to know from the staff that the cable car was closed for the day (maybe they didn’t know?) Tour buses were not running, so taxi was required to get to and from Atami Castle.

- Samuel (10/5): Impressive service! -
- Geri Greenall (10/5): Historic and special Ryokan in a great location. - Service was top notch.
- Katherina (10/5): Welcoming and service oriented staff in a stunning hotel that breathes Japanese tradition. - Very nicely arranged. Nothing. It was perfect. Really.
- Miki (10/5): A quiet, restful, healing stay. Thank you for accommodating my dietary needs. - Impeccable service, cleanliness, spaciousness, in-room private outdoor onsen, exceptional meal, privacy The bathroom to shower before entering the outdoor onsen is on the opposite side of the room
- Walter (10/5): -
- MUHAMMAD FAIZAL (10/5): Great for a convenient getaway from tokyo - The staff from the very start, even though I can't speak Japanese, was extremely accomodating to me.
They also took note of my shellfish allergies and ensured that my meals do not have them. That said, I can still eat traces of shellfish and still be fine, if potential travellers are completely allergic to even the tiniest bit of shellfish, the ryokan may not be able to accomodate to your meals.
The ryokan is 50mins away from Tokyo, in a quiet town of Atami. It's about 5 minutes drive from the station, or 15 mins walking if you are up for a downhill walk.
I took the room with the private onsen, so I don't feel the need to intrude with other customers at the grand bath(though the grand bath is pretty sweet too).
The meals are delicious. Worth it.
Now as for the price, do take note it is on the pricier end so it's not for budget travellers (though this is one of yhe things worth splurging money into).
To conclude, I would like to thank Ayaka for being a great attendant for the first half of my stay. As for the second half, I also would like to thank the other attendant (I unfortunately forgot her name) for being helpful and accommodating.
Thank you, and I will come back again, and hopefully I can speak fluent Japanese on my second trip! NIL.
- Justina (9/5): wonderful experience in a traditional ryokan - spacious and clean rooms, friendly staff, enjoyed the private onsen, beautifully presented food shower was a bit tricky to use, sometimes dinner service felt a bit rushed in some courses, bed was a bit hard for our taste
- KIU ON (10/5): Excellent service and food - Staff are friendly and nice. Food qualiry is good and in-room dining experience is fantastic. Will definitely visit again for sure!
- Ann (10/5): The Most Perfectly Enchanting Stay - Breakfast and the kaiseki dinner were both in-room and exceedingly delicious and wonderful. The ofuro/outdoor bath was immensely relaxing, restorative and transforming (be sure to shower completely before entering even though it's private). The staff were formal, friendly and hospitable. This was easily my most favourite stay (one night) of the entire 14 day visit to Japan. I'd love to stay here again, but the price is high (understandably so). Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be cherished. No complaints or dislikes whatsoever. Everything was perfect! For anyone staying here, I'd recommend the room with its own outdoor bathtub/ofuro.
- Ahduck (10/5): Awesome Ryokan - Dinner and breakfast was beyond excellent. Runa excellent service. Ryokan was spacious. The private onsen. Complimentary drinks. Everything was awesome! Having more TV stations, English too.
- Fabrice (10/5): An amazing Ryokan! - Furuya Ryokan is a luxury Ryokan. When you arrive you are greeted by a handful of staff. They will help you with your shoes and your host will guide you to your room showing and explaining everything you need to know and where to find everything. She'll serve you some tea and get some Yukatas ready matching your size. After the introductions you can enjoy a nice bath in the public bath (resevered for hotel guests of course). Our room had a spacious hot tub outside which we also enjoyed. Dinner and breakfast is served in the room by the host who guided you to your room earlier on. The menu was amazing with many small dishes where you can discover various delicacies!
Once dinner is over another person will get your futons ready and you can enjoy a good night's sleep!
We were amazed by this Ryokan, the devotion and passion of the staff making everything for an unforgettable stay!
- Gustav (10/5): Perfect for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience - Perfect for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience
- Joyce (10/5): Excellent attentive staff - The staff, the meals, the service.
- Nathan (10/5): Excellent facilities, brilliant staff and wonderful food - Absolutely fantastic traditional hot spring inn, the facilities were top notch and the food was spectacular. The room we stayed in had its own private stone bath and overall was very spacious and clean. Although on the more expensive side, it is worth every penny and the entire experience there more than justifies the price. None that I can think of.
- Thomas (10/5): This is a beautiful ryokan/onsen, with exceptional, traditional Japanese-style rooms and service. - We stayed 2 nights, and both dinners and breakfasts were exceptional. We have been to high quality onsens before, so we had a good idea what to expect, and the quality, presentation, and variety of food items was outstanding. We also managed to be assigned an unusually large suite that we also appreciated. Our assigned hostess took excellent care of us and speaks very good English. I have no complaints; everything was great. My only recommendation might be to have a little more detailed information (in English) about places of interest outside the onsen, especially those in walking distance. For example, are there any hiking/walking trails in the adjacent hills? Besides along the beach, are there recommended routes for running?
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Letitia (10/5): Absolutely amazing service - The staff was amazingly attentive and provided exceptional service throughout our stay. The food was phenomenal and the amenities are wonderfully stocked. The kaiseki dinner was exquisite and I would say the chef and cooks at Furuya deserves the highest praise for the food was outstanding with a well thought out menu highlighting the season’s produce and local ingredients.
Although most of the staff spoke little English, they tried their best to ensure that they understood our needs and helped make our stay comfortable and pleasant. The room was large, spacious and very comfortable even with the simple furnishings. The private rotenburo bath which source its water from the hot spring was the other highlight of our stay.
I highly recommend staying here if you get the chance.
- Chow (10/5): Excellent ryokan experience that was well worth the price. - Spacious room, private hot spring bath, dinner and breakfast were delicious with amazing variety of food. Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): A relaxing and memorable experience - The place was beautiful and close to the train station, which was good. We were well received and introduced to our attendant, Ami, who was very nice and attentive. The dinner was an incredible experience, and the breakfast as well (just be ready to eat many dishes during dinner and breakfast, just a heads-up). It was very relaxing to have our own onsen in the room, and we slept well on our futons. Atami was a cute city to visit, I recommend taking a tour before leaving. All in all a perfect stay for our honeymoon! Nothing.
- Etienne (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing service and facilities. If you are looking for an authentic Ryokan experience this is the place to choose.
Special mention to Ayaka who took great care of us during our stay.
- Bhatwal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Siew (10/5): Uniquely one of its kind. Unforgettable. - Impeccable!
Just perfect in every sense.
Furuya Ryokan, beating the odds of being surrounded by taller buildings, it shines like a gem, like a lily in the desert.
Its serene and well thought of layout design, its attentive and dedicated team members, its exquisite and elaborate traditional kaiseki meals served in guest rooms, - it is impossible to find any faults - one feels sincerely welcome, feels at home and doesn’t feel the need to go out of the ryokan.
- Corinne (10/5): First class ryokan - Our room was bigger than expected and had it's own onsen. The dinner was amazing with many dishes to try and was more food than we could eat. The staff was nice and helpful. Truly a first class ryokan experience! Nothing! It's a slight walk from the train station so if that's a problem for you then you can take a taxi with no trouble. If you aren't used to Japanese style food or sleeping on the floor it will be a new experience :)
- Robert (10/5): - This place was the nicest I have ever been to in Japan. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful.
- Rock (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Not cheap, but amazing place for people who want to experience traditional Japanese riyokan. The room is marvellous and the staff is very polite. Our guide was Mrs. Mika who was extremely helpful and polite. The localization is perfect - you can walk 5 minutes to Atami Beach, where you can sunbath. The breakfasts and dinners at Riyokan are really delicious. And one thing more - the gate of the Riyokan was used in Akira Kurosawa' s film Kagemusha. Greetings from Poland!
- Jae (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jodi (10/5): - Fantastic experience...only wish we would have had more time. We used this as a hub prior to climbing Mt. Fuji - not too far from the Atami Station and easy to access.
Staff is helpful, kind and very welcoming. Beautiful Ryokan - would definitely come back to visit again.
- Ching (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is awesome, the food is good and the staffs are very professional.
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was awesome. Even though we didn’t speak Japanese, we were able to get by. The staff was friendly and I would highly recommend.
- Gwen (10/5): Best food I had in any Atami and Ito area ryokan. It was the best. From presentation, freshness, variety of different di - Very clean, all the staff were very professional, caring, attentive and friendly. Food was excellent!
Room had excellent lights with warm feelings of the room, and it was very comfortable and relaxing.
Great location to the beach and shopping area. None
- Tsyt14 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sk (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic staff 👏 Nothing..maybe a bit pricy but our room was 731sqft.. huge. So I think it's fair
- billy (10/5): - Excellent service, courteous and professional
- Joanna (10/5): Incredible traditional Japanese hospitality with amazing private onsen baths - Furuya Ryokan was a traditional Japanese ryokan and it was absolutely amazing. The rooms with private onsen baths were incredible - they were huge, traditional, and the baths were amazing. The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were some of the best meals I have ever eaten. The staff of the ryokan were fantastic across the board, from the check-in desk to the attendant for our room who served all of the meals (and was very patient with a group of 5 American tourists, only one of whom spoke Japanese).
- Nelson (10/5): A very relaxing Ryokan in a convenient location in town - The food was delicious, and the bath was perfect! The futon were clean and comfortable, and it was close enough to the station and town that we could walk around and explore. The shower takes a few minutes to heat up, but it wasn't a problem once we got used to it.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional - The property was exceptional, even for the very high standards which are customary in Japan.
It was also exceptionally good value with a quality first class dinner and breakfast
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalia (10/5): The place for deep relaxation, japanese style, cozy minimalism with high attention to details - The room, the onsen, the service was at the highest standard, the personal did everything possible to make my stay perfect. Nothing to mention
- Randolph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Calvin (10/5): Incredible 1-day/1-night getaway from Tokyo - The kaiseki-style dinner and seasonal breakfast were incredible. Our attendant, Runa, was charming and attentive. The private outdoor and indoor onsen exceeded my expectations!
- Jordan (10/5): A stay to remeber! - This property is a beautifully built ryokan tucked into the city, just minutes from the beach. It was an easy 10-minute walk downhill from the main train station. Once at the property the staff were friendly and accommodating to any needs throughout our stay. The food was impeccable and the baths were splendid. However, the best part of our stay was our room attendant, Akari. She was so sweet and spoke excellent English and made our honeymoon a stay to remember!! N/A
- Jangkuang (9/5): Superb -
- Jenty (9/5): Fantastic food and superb relaxation - We had a brilliant stay here. Atami is small and vibrant. The ryokan came at just the right time in our trip. The staff are incredible and our room attendant Runa was so sweet and an absolute star. We loved her. We stayed in a Japanese style room and we are so happy we did. We had a private bath for when we weren’t up to the public bath but either is a delightful experience. Follow the kind guidance and you’ll be fine. The breakfasts and dinners served in the room were astounding in both quality and quantity. We had the Japanese menu and it was superb. The futons are made up for you each night and were really comfortable. There are also chairs if/when you need them. We cannot wait to return! Nothing at all!
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ren (10/5): Incredible - The food was absolutely incredible. Dinner and breakfast were served in our room and it was amazing, traditional Japanese food. Miho, who was assigned to our room, was kind and spoke English much better than I expected (they had warned us not much of their staff spoke at all, so I was expecting a more difficult time communicating). The private onsen was amazing and so soothing. There were a lot of booklets and things in English to help explain how to use the public onsen and the rules and ettiquette, which was very helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean, and accomodating. I can't recommend this place enough. It's gorgeous. I only wish we had stayed longer!
- Mirna (10/5): Blissful - Could not fault service - the staff went exceptionally above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. It was amazing, they treat you like royalty.
The private onsen was perfect, and we made good use of it as it was quite relaxing. We also ensured we headed down to sun beach for a stroll at sunset and to explore local atami. The fireworks were a bonus.
The breakfast and dinner were interesting and are subjective to taste. Overall worth it for the night! Thank you!
- Chang (9/5): Superb -
- Jenmang (10/5): Lovely experience - Service was excellent. The staff really paid great attention to your needs and went above and beyond expectations. The private onsen was definitely a highlight. The meals were carefully prepared and delicious. Nothing I can think of.
- Mina (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous property, conveniently located from the Atami Station and a 40 minute ride on the Shinkansen from Tokyo.
- Pui (9/5): Enjoyable - Classic, service and food are very good
- Yiming (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffery (9/5): Superb -
- Hamda (10/5): relaxing - Super relaxing property, Atami is the perfect city to stay in a ryokan. The room was big and the view of the garden was beautiful. The outdoor bath was very relaxing. The full course meals might be too much for people who are not used to Japanese dishes, I was not used to having a large portion of food for breakfast and they were kind enough to accommodate to simply have a salad and fruits.
