- alexis (10/5): - La chambre avec tatamis. Le buffet. La piscine et onsen. Le personnel super gentil. La vue dans le restaurant.
- Atsushi (7/5): -
- Suzuka (8/5): -

- Misty (10/5): A comfortable, relaxing stay with outstanding surroundings. - Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting. Mountain View’s and trees everywhere. Nothing
- Linda (10/5): Wonderful stay. We were very comfortable and relaxed. - Very spacious and comfortable room. The bath house was awesome.
- C6526FRhenryc (8/5): Great buffet - Good dinner buffet!
Seriously it was fantastic. You won’t get lots of sashimi or salmon roe or high end seafood, but you will get crab legs and very high quality Japanese food. Great variety. Very clean and renovated and large restaurant. Lots of people eating here. They even had a pianist and singer.
I will say that I wish the floor of the outdoor onsen didn’t have its paint peeling off.
Location is right next door to ski lifts. Ten minute shuttle to main town. Shuttles run frequently enough and if not it’s a fifteen minute walk only.
There is a small gym with lighter weights and cardio machines.
I would come here just for the dinner buffet! Even if you’re not a guest here it’s worth coming to IMO.
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Sai yan (4/5): The mattress is uncomfortable - The mattress is uncomfortable
And only provide one sock and very hot in room. Luckily the front desk staff bring me a fan. Staffs are nice.
- Wanvisa (10/5): Exceptional - The property nice and clean.
- Jeff (8/5): -
- Zizhao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Firat (7/5): ups & downs, a hotel that does not exactly live up to the price and potential. - Nice location, nearby the skiing slopes and walking distance to the center of Kusatsu Onsen. There is also a great shuttle service between these points. Buffet was very good for one day, but too bad they literally never changed the menu for the 4 days we stayed except for one small dish. Private onsen is paid and therefor available which was nice. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, hard as a rock and the room was way too hot with no option to open the window. We slept horribly during our stay. It was also not too clean to be honest.
- Nancy (6/5): Pleasant - Dinner is the best thing. Good and tasty food. organized and attentive staff you can hear everything that happens in the apartment above, people talking, walking around all night in slippers and going to the bathroom. The rooms are very very noisy. And the hotel is under maintenance, it's really bad to have limited hours for the onsen bath, especially considering the high price paid per day.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Babyjane (8/5): Very good -
- Kelsey (4/5): Not worth the price at all. Stay in town, Yubatake. - Nothing in particular. This place was really overpriced. The first night we arrived we had no air conditioning. They said they air conditioning was turned off, then they said broken for the winter. Our room was miserably hot. We had the window open and fans placed in the windows to try and cool it off. Miraculously they put us in a room with air conditioning the next day. So I guess it wasn’t turned off for the winter. The onsens in the town were better than the this hotel. The hotel was also a 20 minute walk from everything going on in the town, that wasn’t very convenient. But they did offer a shuttle that went about throughout the day. This was my 3rd time visiting Japan and had been my least favorite experience. In my opinion it should be less than $150 a night, in no way should it be the $350 a night I ended up paying. Last thing I’m American, they don’t allow tattoos at this place. The in town onsens do and several are free… overall not pleased.
- Jedsada (1/5): Bad - Nothing Everything
- Berna (8/5): Very good -
- Luana (10/5): Great stay very clean and nice - The scenery and the food and the staff
- Ekaterina (9/5): Superb -
- Chajchawalit (8/5): Newly renovated. One of the best hotels in Kusatsu onsen - Big Bath onsen room. Large room with private outdoor onsen bath. Buffet type breakfast and Dinner. Newly renovated rooms. Some food in the dining hall was cold; while I think that it should be warm. But overall was great because there are many choices of food to select.
- Colleen (9/5): Superb - The private onsen was a wonderful experience. The buffet dinner was superb. The property also has a regular free shuttle into the town and bus station. The landscaping around the private onsen needs work.
- Giga (10/5): Great place to stay please book - Everything the hotel was clean beautiful. The amenities and facilities were great. The staff were lovely and friendly and very accommodating.
- Lily (8/5): Very good - Only one restaurant operating in the evening when we were there.
- Juha (10/5): excellent onsen- hotel - we had a perfect two-night stay at the Kusatsu Now Resort. First the staff has the best service I have ever experienced even though there was a language barrier. but the staff went beyond everything to keep us happy. Secondly the town of Kusatsu is really beautiful and compact so absolutely worth of visit!
- Corey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lilian (10/5): We totally enjoyed the onsen experience in hotel. - Love the private onsen. Well designed and spacious of the room. Hotel even provide a small bottle of champagne for us. What we see on the website regarding the room and the hotel surrounding is exactly what we see when we there. 👍
We also love the public onsen where there is indoor and outdoor.
Love the unlimited snow crab dinner buffet.
Hotel also has a lot of nice, comfortable resting area.
Love the hotel able to provide transport to bus terminal and Yabatake town. Maybe hotel can improve the breakfast spread and the timing is too early and short, ie 7am to 830am.
We actually skip the second day breakfast and go Yabatake for brunch instead.
- Mike (10/5): This seems like the spot to stay while in Kusatsu. It’s slightly off the path from the square but that’s okay, it gets y - The baths were immaculate. Check in was a breeze. The room was what you would expect at an onsen resort. The food was great. I honestly couldn’t ask for anything different. It’s exactly how I would picture and onsen resort.
- Margarita (9/5): A wonderful break in a beautiful setting. - We really loved the onsen experience, it was one of the best we have had so far. The buffet dinner was very good, but we did not have breakfast so I can't comment on that. Location is wonderful. Usually all hotels in Japan offer you pyjamas but not this one, so we were unprepared.
- Rainer (10/5): - Great hotel. This is for relaxing. The onsen is awesome. Fantastic dinner and breakfast included.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nantira (3/5): Poor - Super poor Internet connection. I was in room 609 and my parents were in 631. We all couldn’t connect the wifi. The room is quiet old and small. For this price, the hotel should provide Key card instead of big actual key. The staff were friendly but the luggage were very slow. We have waited for the luggage to our room for 20 minutes as we had to go out. We then assumed that the luggage should be placed in the room automatically so we came down to the lobby. Once the bellman saw us he asked to accompany him to the room to store the luggage. It was annoying because we were rushing out at that time. The hotel should improve this process. Lastly, Onsen is a bit old. Everything
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Alex (10/5): - Spoke very little Japanese. However the staff, especially Yo-san, tried their best to accommodate us so that we would have a pleasant stay.

- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): -

- Verified traveler (4/5): -

- Verified traveler (10/5): -

- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Yuk Chun (8/5): Family Trip - Nice place and location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfort and Satisfaction - Wonderful hotel in a great location. With superb dinner and breakfast. Staffs very accomodating and kind. Piano and singer, nice ambiance while having dinner or at the lounge. Hotel shuttle bus very convenient going to Yubatake souan. Bring swim wear for pool use. Room very tidy. Exellent in every way. Me and family really had a great time. Definitely, we'll be back again. ★★★★★
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The lobby and private Onsens were well maintained. The room has a nice view... but that was it. It was literally falling apart. I went to turn on the lights and the switch pop back into the cupboard. The sheets had blood stains. The toilet was really rusty. The wallpaper was peeling off. The chairs were really dirty. The staff were very nice and has shuttle bus very often to key locations.
- rjoyce6018 (10/5): Wonderful resort - We recently stayed st this resort and were very very happy. The food was exceptional the hot bath wa spectacular. Rooms were clean and we loved the robes also I loved the high end shampoo and lotions the staff were extremely nice and the Chinese restaurant and staff were amazing😀😀 I ordered ice for my wine and it came extremely fast. I will definitely be back. We had an amazing stay here❤️❤️
- businesstraveller421 (2/5): Old and run down hotel, not international standard. Beware. - This was supposed to be a week of skiing with the family (2 adults and 2 kids) as part of of longer Japan trip but we left after three drays.
The hotel was supposed to be 4 star recommendation with half board and kids friendly. It also offered a choice of restaurants and is close to the slopes. So all sounded good.
The location is ok and indeed close to the slopes. The Onsen (private and public) is ok. Parking is free and ample availability. These are the pretty much the only few positive points I can have.
Here is a short summary of the bad things which left us leaving early (after a longer discussion that they wanted to charge us for the full stay):
- Hotel is not at all international standard at all: very few people who speak English, very old rooms, poor very overall condition of the estate
- The hotel is expensive but everything is still charged extra: e.g. the use of the pool is chargeable for hotel guest (!), half board is only for the buffet dinner which is overcrowded and everyday exactly the same food, even table tennis cost money
- In spite of price, the hotel is old and outdated. The reception areas has gone through a recent renovation a few years back, but that is about it.
- The rooms are a disaster. They are small, old, unkept, the Tatami Room which was supposed to house a family of 4 does not allow any luggage space and the Tatami area will be used for Futons for the kids. The furniture is run down and overall condition is poor.
- The bathrooms are 1970s plastic shower cells similar to a camper, which do not even allow anyone to stand straight (floor to ceiling around 170cm). They are outdated, run down, super small and basically not usable. The hotel told me, I am supposed to use the common shower facilities at the Onsen and not the bathroom in the room?
- The pool is old, under reno and completely run down.
In summary, I can only warn to stay here. Overpriced and way below standard. I have attached a few picture to give you an impression.
- prithivi raj (10/5): Very nice place to enjoy holiday - Pretty good place to enjoy 2-3 days.
The staffs are very friendly. The onsen setup is the hightlight and looks so natural and enjoyable. It has both indoor and outdoor.
- Relax747304 (2/5): Irresponsible service - The hotel staff didn’t notify the bus terminal staff that the free shuttle would be cancelled and relocated to another place! A lot of hotel guests have been waiting for over 1.5 hours since 3:55pm till 5:15pm until some guests required at the info station. The info station staff had to call the hotel to realize they cancelled all the shuttles and relocated to another pick up place!! They should have sent staff to the bus station to inform the guests!!! Even after the guests have changed the location, the shuttle was further delayed... so guests had to wait for at least 2 hours while we saw shuttles from other hotels were going by to pick up their guests!!!!
- lilyannwong (2/5): Worst experience ever!!!! - Worst service ever experienced! Wasted 1.5hr waiting for the free shuttle from the bus terminal but they suddenly moved it to another location without any notification!!! The staff didn’t even inform us they might change location under heavy snowfall when we left the hotel like a few hours ago! Luckily that we asked the bus terminal staff n they called to the hotel! We had to travel to the other pick up location n wait to be picked up!
- 815jw (8/5): Convenient for skiing - Kusatsu is the place to be if you want to enjoy skiing and onsen near Tokyo. This hotel doesn't have the best onsen but is very close to the skiing resort, and they have frequent shuttle service to the slope. I used their shuttle and drove too, either way is fine.
The hotel is big, so don't expect very detailed attention. However, they do have different restaurants and cafe/bar so you won't have trouble finding what you want to eat. Food quality is good, not the mass production type.
- Dan (10/5): Comfortable, great onsen and good service & food. - Great experience at this hotel, the buffet spread was amazing and delicious. Excellent service everywhere in the hotel. Rooms are a bit dated and worn but still acceptable. The Onsen is Superb ! 2 Outdoor spring water pools, 3 indoor pools with different temperature, Jacuzzi and sauna. The changing area is full of amenities, plenty of free products to try. Shuttle bus service to the main town area is also very convenient. Highly recommended.
- travelbadboy (6/5): Can be Better - This is a big hotel but the location is not close to the central area. The room is generally good and spacious. There was Chinese speaking staff, who was a nice lady who could assist Chinese. The big onsen is of average standard. There are private onsen rooms for hire, but I must say these rooms are not impressive at all.
The dinner buffet is average too. The food has wide variety but quality is just average for Japanese food standard. There are not sufficient parking space. I have to park my car down the quiet road at night and walk back to the hotel.
All in all, happy stay but can be better!
- gaoy972 (8/5): Nice combination of ski and SPA. - The hotel is the closest to the ski station blue slope. If you want to go higher level slope, you need to take a minibus for 20 Minutes. The hotel is a big one and equipment well maintained. Balanced western and Japanese food, very tasty and diversified. There is spa space in the resort with several pools and all necessary facilities. The price is expensive - we were there one week before the Xmas and paid around 500 USD per night for one room. Anyway, to travel in Japan is not cheap. The best way to reach here from Tokyo is by bus - around 4 hours.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bad check in as the girl has a frown on her face all the time. Toilet in the room has bad smell though asking for a special clean up. Buffer is good.
- jeffayn (8/5): Lovely Resort - This hotel is little away from the action or city center, but no worry at all, They have shuttle every 30 minute to the Train terminal, then to the city center and back to hotel.
The room is big, we book a twin room, and we get like two queen bed room and a sofa bed, If you look at the picture attached, that sofa bed is so big, can sleep two adult actually without too much problem.
The hotel onsen is definitely good, ... Japan no 1 Onsen Kusatsu definitely offer some of the best onsen experience ..
This hotel definitely cater for family .. and their food dinner and breakfast is very high standard.
- ChiaJoyce (8/5): Nice hotel that is away from town - Stayed here for a night - the hotel is approximately 5 mins away from Yubatake by bus- the hotel provides free shuttle service to Kusatsu Bus Terminal and to the town area, When you arrive at the Kusatsu Bus Terminal - go to the tourist information counter on the first floor and ask for the bus timings. The hotel bus is brown and they will pick passengers up to the hotel.
The room we got was a little dated - feels like a 1980s decor- room is spacious and clean. Onsen is located on B1 of the hotel and it is huge. Room is also spacious. We opted for the dinner and bfast plan and the food was so good! it was buffet style and they had of course japanese and italian selection - it also included free flow of soft drinks and hot coffee / tea.
We had 2 days in Kusatsu so we opted for a hotel away from town to experience tranquility in this hotel. The surroundings were nice - hotel is nestled on a large piece of land and you can cycle or play tennis (of course you need to pay for it).
There is a shop at the hotel that sells drinks, souvenirs - apparently the masot for the hotel is a squirrel - probably lots of squirrels sighted at the hotel. The weather was perfect and you can see some Autumn foliage. Oct is a lovely time to visit before it gets too cold in winter.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a peaceful stay to refresh and enjoy the onsen.
- Bonnie (6/5): Onsen terrific BUT entire place needs updating - We'd stayed at other Onsen hotels and that's why we chose this hotel. Our hotel room air conditioning wasn't working but a staff member came & tried to repair and it didn't work so he brought us a fan. It worked out well because it cooled off during the night. The bathroom had a mildew odor and the room smelled a bit of smoke but it was tolerable. The onsen is wonderful with the 6 different pools but needs overhauling, new tile as there was much grout missing and the patio window doors going from the inside onsen to the outdoor onsen was dirty. The smorgasbord meal was just "ok" (I'm comparing to the same type of hotels offering same type of meals in other parts of Japan). They have a FANTASTIC staff of people!!!
- SalBonExplorers (8/5): Great Onsen....Hotel needs updating - The outdoor Onsen is really nice just needing an overhaul. Tile & grout need to be redone in the indoor areas as some were patched with the wrong grout or the grout was gone. (I couldn't take pictures because cameras are not allowed in the bath & spa area). The room was older and smelled a bit in the bathroom (unlike the other hotels we stayed in Japan). We cracked open the window to freshen the room. The air conditioner was not working but a wonderful gentleman from the staff came & tried to fix it & was unable to so he brought a fan. He also switched out the feather quilt and pillows due to my allergies. The staff was amazing from all areas. The food was okay compared to similar hotels we stayed throughout Japan on our 18 day vacation.
- Louis (8/5): Nice hotel, but needs some renewal - Hotel is lovely, although rooms are dated and on the smaller side. The bathrooms look like they haven't been updated since the 1980s. The bed was very comfortable - although a Japanese room option would have been nice. The buffet dinner was excellent. Onsen (spa) bath was very good, with nice natural water, although the onsen area was a little small. For a Kusatsu resort hotel, where the onsen is the main attraction, I would have expected a bit more.
- fishy78 (8/5): Yummy buffet - Was there during xmas. Very cold but children loved the snow play and I loved the outdoor hotspring. Buffet was the best I had. They served the japanese crab leys whicb was very fresh. Simiaely jaoanese melons were very sweet. Yummy. Only thing I didn't like was the hotel bathroom, which is quite smelly. Overall it was a good stay. We will probably go back again.
- johnew849 (10/5): Very Authentic Japanese Hotel - I am renting the Japan style room, really good and very different for a westerner. This is a really excellent hotel (four stars in quality but 5 stars in experience), I seem to be the only gaijin here, but everyone is very nice. It's the middle of winter and the ski slopes are about a 10 minute walk away. Kusatsu is famous for its "onsen" or natural spas. They are everywhere here. And yes, the big ones are often coed, and you do not wear clothes. I tried to get my GF to go with me, but well, she declined. You can also rent private baths in the hotel, she did agree to that. The water was REALLY hot but it was fun. They are open air but completely private. In the Japanese rooms you sleep on futons each night, they come and set them up. The dinners are magnificent. They give you tickets with times on it and you show up and they seat you, there is a huge Japanese buffet. For 1600 Yen you get all you can drink, and that include beer, wine, whiskey, whatever. I was drinking glass after glass of whiskey until my GF started disapproving, so I drank 2 - 3 more (ha!). The breakfast buffets, everyone wears their Japanese robes which are in each room. They have a great indoor pool and big natural spa. The water is sulfur water and like a lot of hot springs, they claim it has curative powers, but it definitely feels different than say a pool spa.
Getting here is a bit of a chore. Out of Ueno Station in Tokyo, there are three trains that leave each day. It takes about 3 hours and then you take a bus to a bus station and a taxi to the hotel. It's the JR line and I do recommend you plan ahead because we were in an unreserved car and it got crowded. I will fill in the specifics later. The town of Kusatsu is great, and the hotel has a bus shuttle that goes about every 20 minutes. It's not a bad place to spend an evening, the locals are very polite. Internet wifi is blazing fast.
All in all, a great experience and one I highly recommend for a more authentic Japanese experience. The front desk speaks spotty English but you can get by.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family trip - Great place to stay!
- Binissalem (10/5): Since 25 years!!! Good value! - Since 25 years I spend two weeks every summer in the Now Resort Hotel during the music festival , in which I participate as a soloist and professor.
I don t know about the prizes because the Festival pays for me.
But I can tell you, what is good:
1)The on-sen is the best of all hotels in Kusatsu. How do I know? My collegues who stay in more expensive hotels like the Village, always come here for the bath.!
2)The rooms are very clean and inviting
3)The breakfast..... Uffff!! Mamma mia!!!! What a choice! What a quality!! I would like to incourage the non-Japanese to try some Japanese food. Great!
4) the sushi bar in Cruiser Restaurant. Great quality, if you have time. If you speak a little bit Japanese, they will serve you fantasticly!!
But: 5) everything in this hotel is very slowwwww..... But,.. didn t you want to go on holidays to go away from stress??
Well for me, having to play up to 8 concerts in 14 days (always august 17 -30) , the slow tempo sometimes is nerving- I take it as an exercise...
Come and try!
- Amy-and-Jacky (10/5): Comfortable winter vacation - Travelled conveniently with a coach from Shinjuku which was included in the package bought from their official website. Reasonably room charged. We had a room at high floor and enjoyed a family spa which booked in advance with additional cost.
Wonderful buffet with all you can eat crab leg and other local signature dishes. Helpful staffs and able to speak in English were truly helped as we don't speak Japanese. Their gift shop provided some award winning biscuits and candies which were great souvenirs.
- GaryY633 (8/5): Very enjoyable! - Great gesture displaying country flags of visitors during arrival or departures. Rooms are spacious and conditions well maintained despite age. Good onsen facilities and excellent dinner buffet including as many as you can eat Taraba Kani (king crab) legs and craws! Great hotel for family with other facilities including a swimming pool, games arcade, a table tennis table etc. The hotel isn’t located in the town centre but you can walk there in 15-20min or just take the hotel shuttle.
It’s within walking distance to the ski field but don’t bother as you could easily hopped on the shuttle for under 5min ride, available every 30min or so. The hotel has a ski equipment rental and storage shop just outside the main building. No lockers for the equipment and we didn't lose anything so I guess the people around here are really honest. Just remember exactly where the equipments are placed because the small shop would get a little crowded every now and then.
Just one note for foreign skiers and snowboarders. As you may know, you can pretty much wear your ski boots anyway in Europe, but not so in Japan. Some hotels in Japan are ok with both but usually only allow snowboard boots. Well, while walking around with our boots, we were asked to leave and to change into slippers that were available at the connecting entrance to the Ski shop. Of course, we quickly complied especially with the embarrassment!
I believe not every staff speak English but certainly no problem at the Reception and restaurant. Besides the Japanese cuisines which were good, the French restaurant (french Japanese style) was excellent. Loved the cutleries there and great service from the guy who served us!
Maybe not among the best ski resort hotels in Japan in terms of furnish, ski-in ski-out and the availability of some facilities but we would have no problem returning. Nice indoor and outdoor onsen facilities by the way. Not to be confused with Kustasu Hotel, which is located much closer to town centre!
