• Quest22396544480 (2/5): Very poor hotel room only the lobby looks nice - The staff explained that the room is very old and has no star rating, which is why the price is cheaper. We understand this, but the lobby looks quite grim and the room condition is still disappointing.👎 I would not recommend others to stay at this hotel. There is no proper standard, and the rooms are extremely old. It really damages the hotel's image.👎
• Vidic15 (6/5): Decidedly average - I'll admit I am conflicted about this hotel as there are definitely things to like. First impression was positive, as you walk into the lobby with the excellent view of the lake. Check in feels a bit clunky, with forms and paperwork to be filled out that all seem far more seamless at hotel properties. The check in agent was friendly and helpful. They were able to help with a paid upgrade to their 'Modern Western Room' which while renovated , it still lacked modern touches from the shower, and even the phone which dates back a good number of years. The heating/air con cannot be adjusted temperature wise, only for the air flow, something that feels like was an oversight for a renovated/modern room. No water bottles provided either felt a bit odd. The biggest gripe is the dining situation as it stands. One dining venue and bar was closed, so it left a chaos at the included buffet dinner which ultimate meant I dined elsewhere on the second night. Breakfast was quieter, but from a food point of view the quality was low. A lot of potential here at this hotel but it falls short.
• arthurxli (2/5): Worst Hotel Experience Ever - This is easily the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The best part of the property is the view from the lobby, which is actually quite nice—but also very misleading. You might think that with such a great view, the rooms couldn’t possibly be that bad. Unfortunately, they are. Honestly, it felt like a Motel 6 on the lake, and I think even Motel 6 might be better. Everything about the room was gross and disgusting: the bathroom, the bed, even the basic furniture. The counter was sticky when I set down my laptop, which makes me believe the staff doesn’t really bother to clean. The whole place smelled musty, and it was clear the owners are just trying to squeeze as much money out of this property as they can before tearing it down for redevelopment. To make things worse, the internet disconnected in the morning when I was trying to get some work done. That was the last straw. We skipped the included breakfast and literally ran away early in the morning. What a relief to leave. It feels like a crime that this hotel is even open to guests. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.
• ANG-POHAIMIN (2/5): Utterly Disappointed with Toya Sun Palace - Stayed in hotel on 10/6/2025. The hotel did not maintain the room allocated to us. The furniture was very old and paint work beaten. It felt like a 3rd world country hotel room. There was even a cigarette burn-mark on the chair. It felt terrible on the whole!
• japanjenny (6/5): No air con in May - We chose this hotel because there is free shuttle bus from the city to the hotel. Many hotels in Toya only serves buffet so it is fine when we know this hotel serve buffet only. When the hotel serves buffet, u don’t expect any fancy food. It is convenient to have direct bus from the city to the hotel. We paid higher fee and chose newly renovated room so it is fine. There is firework every night in May and you can just go to the court yard at the basement level to see that is convenient. But we go in end of May, the hotel didn’t switch on the air con. So you have to borrow a standing fan. The staff will advise you to open the window. We did that and the window is opened slightly. However even with that small opening , there are flies flying in the room so we decided to close the window. I think that is not very nice when they didn’t switch on the centralized air con. I don’t know when they will switch it on so if you stay in this hotel, think it is better coming before May when you don’t even need a fan.
• 633josephinel (8/5): Lovely onsen and meals but hate the queue for food. - We booked the modern twin not the old standard twin and was given a room that overlooked the lake - fantastic view with fireworks that started at 845 pm lasting 2 min . The buffet dinner was so crowded that there was a queue at every station but the food was good with a wide selection ranging from sushi. Sashimi , grilled beef , tempura , okonomiyaki etc . Breakfast selection was also good but again one had to queue to get the food . Onsen was spectacular with an infinity pool overlooking the lake and lots of shampoo and facial cleansers to choose from . Overall a good stay .
• jylim (6/5): Best view but not the accommodation, not that family friendly for young and old - It's a million dollar view, but facilities wise not the best For large family, unlikely to get a room to fit 6 or even connecting room. The buffet is quite crowded and food is normal. Onsen is beautiful, the gem, with many bath. Fireworks at night is great! Such a near encounter! On the day we check in, we're given voucher of 1000yen per room for gift shop or pool rental. Hot water boiler was extremely dirty or dark. Not sure if some tourist boiled tea and stained badly. Just bought mineral water at gift shop
• RanchTraveler (6/5): Pay for an upgraded room - We booked the standard two twin with extra bed for 3 people. The room was so old and worn looking. It had dirty old thin out carpet and torn wall papers, lumpy beds, tiny old bathroom with exception of the modern bidet toilet. There’s no ventilation in the room. There was no working AC, and window didn’t open. We didn’t want to be in the room except when time to sleep. We went to onsen for our baths. The restaurant, lobby and garden however were grand and pretty. Dinner had good variety buffet with pasta, nigiri, fresh tempura, grilled large shrimp, dumplings, soba, ramen, desserts and ice cream. The lakefront garden had blooming sakura (May), and the onsen had nice facilities and beautiful view of lake toya. So, pay and upgrade your room and maybe your experience would be a lot better.
• 633josephinel (8/5): Beautiful cherry blossoms behind hotel . - Parking was on a lane up the slope. We unloaded before parking . We booked the modern western twin - much better than the old rooms . Wifi was good , bathrooms clean . The yukatas provided were pretty and smart looking . The room was stuffy and aircon barely working but once you open up the windows, the room was alright . Onsens - wonderful with an infinity pool looking out to lake Toya . Easily one of the best in Hokkaido . Food - Breakfast and dinner were held in large banquet halls that resemble a canteen . However the food was good with snow crab legs . There was a firework display over lake toya that lasted from 845pm for 20 minutes . An extra bonus was the cherry blossoms in full bloom behind the hotel overlooking the lake toya - truly a sight to behold.
• GregoryTan_SG (8/5): Hotel with a nice view - The building is spacious and well maintained. They offer free drinks around the buildings . A plus factor . This place is famous for family with children as they have a water play land. Onsen for adults is good with a view. Buffet breakfast and dinner are part of the package and are repeated everyday. 20 mins way from the town A decent middle range hotel. Wide rooms of category according to pricing. They have free shuttle bus service to and fro from Sapporo city. Stay for 1 night will have a good overall experience
• prisana2016 (10/5): Love the onsen, Game Arcade Center, Water Park and Ping Pong room ❤️ - Hotel fill with activities for all ages. We went in a big family group of 14 pax ranging from age 9 till 80 and everyone loved Toya Sun Palace. Kids and teens enjoyed the wave pool in the water park where there were Stingray and Flamingo buoys to use free of charge and during the time of our stay there were 6 slides opened. However there was additional one bigger slide which required to pay a 500 yen extra if we’d like to use and they would give us a 4-6 pax buoy to slide down and this 500 yen extra was for 50 minutes. The place that our 6 kids (9-18 years old) enjoyed the most was the Game Center Arcade with variety of games for everyone. A big thank to the Japanese man who was on duty the night of our stay (12/4/2023), he was very kind and very generous and because of him we had the best experience ever in playing games at the game arcade. Sorry we didn’t catch his name. The onsen here was very good especially the outdoor onsen where we could enjoy the onsen while over looking at the beautiful Lake Toya. We stayed in both a Japanese Modern and a Western Modern and the only difference between them was the Tatami vs Carpet floors. Rooms were standard Japanese style room and were big enough for 3 in each room. Dinner buffet was good with an all you can eat Hagandaz ice cream and we all loved there Japanese steam eeg (ไข่ตุ๋น). And for breakfast buffet the food was ok for me since they didn’t provide yoghurt and not many varieties of vegetables salads however we were stunned by the beauty of Lake Toya scenery. Anyway my son and daughter loved Toya Sun Palace so much that they wish to visit again soon. We really enjoyed onsen and the Game Center plus a Ping Pong room so much and it was an unforgettable experience for all of us. Thank you Toya Sun Palace ❤️

• Verified traveler (8/5): 約10年振りのサンパレス - 何年振りかのサンパレスでした。ロビーや風呂が改築され綺麗で気持ち良く三日間を過ごす事が出来ました。孫たちはプールで大はしゃぎ、食事も子供も大人も美味しく頂きました。イルミネーションも美しく素敵でした。ただ連泊だったので昼ごはんを食べるレストランが無かったのでカップラーメンになりました。

• 607kerenw (6/5): Public Use of Onsen - My family visited the area in search of a nice onsen with a view. We arrived just after 3pm and unfortunately were turned away as they said public use of onsens is only prior to 3pm. Can anyone else confirm this? We found a nice indoor/outdoor onsen down the road anyway.
• sidvivek (10/5): Excellent Stay - Beautiful and Serene hotel with good amenities. Staff is friendly- Special mention for Jae Hyeong Jeong who helped in catering vegetarian food for us. Thanks for helping us have a wonderful experience. The hotel has beautiful view. Rooms are tidy and hotel offers a lot of activities for guests and kids. Check in could have been quicker and more easy though... They didnt allow for early check in by 1 hr even with kids and family which I feel is could have been easily accommodated. Otherwise friendly and helpful staff.

The hotel had a very nice fireworks show at night . There's also a very good souvenir shop in the lobby, be sure to check it out.

• johnhE7162EW (4/5): Great onsen but that’s all - This is a huge hotel in a spectacular location. We were first shown rooms that were appalling. Old, dirty, tired and stank of smoke. We were then moved to recently upgraded rooms which were fine. Arrived in the morning in the rain and told that despite its size they don’t serve lunch! Not many options in the town either. No one at reception spoke even basic English. Obliged to have the dinner breakfast package. This is served in a huge dining hall as a buffet. Very uninspiring food. Also the hotel bar does not open till 830 pm so can’t get a drink before dinner. The onsen is magnificent with both indoor and outdoor baths overlooking the lake.

• D1431XOpeterk (6/5): Great Onsen and Views but get updated room - Stayed for two nights in July. The lobby, lake view and onsen was fantastic. However the room we were assigned was old and smelled of cigarette smoke - we booked a Japanese style room. The bathroom had a musty sewer smell. We found out later that they still allow smoking in these rooms. The air purifier that the hotel brought after we complained about the smell did not help much. Fir the second nigh we were switched to an upgraded room (but were charged an additional uograde fee). For people sensitive to cigarette smoke i would only recommend this resort if you get an updated room on a non-smoking floor. The breakfast and dinner were buffet style and the selections were excellent. The food choices were identical over the 2 days however.
• J_Su_Mw (8/5): Kids would love the mini water park - Rooms - A bit dated with a smallish window that cant be opened, and with pre-fabricated toilets. Room smells kinda damp, and the only way to let fresh air in is through a tiny old tech ventilation shaft. The tiny window makes viewing the fireworks not as enjoyable. Onsen - Great with good views and multiple variety Food - Dinner buffet was fantastic with vast selection, breakfast is awesome too Pool area - Kids would love this mini water park, with a wave pool and a couple long slides. Location - A bit far from centre, if you want to swan boat/ cruise then you need to drive around 5m Previously we stayed in nonokaze, so I would recommend staying in nonokaze for the rooms and the location, and stay here in toya sun for the food and the mini water park (and slightly cheaper price).
• PhyllisD30 (4/5): Toya Sun Palace Resort and Spa - We were given one of the old rooms with a very strong smoke smell. Wallpaper was peeling away and the decor was very dated and a bit creepy. The bathroom was old and seems like it was from the 80’s. The toiletries provided were of poorer quality than from the other hotels where we stayed. The plus side was there is a beautiful lake view. Wonderful scenery and great onsen view. Swimming pool is very big. Fireworks at night , maybe it was a weekend treat. Hotel staff provided an air purifier to help reduce the smoke smell though it didn’t really helped much. Request for a newly renovated non-smoking room for a comfortable night’s stay, else the stay will be quite disappointing.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - 비가 오고 안개가 끼어 풍경을 즐길 수는 없었으나, 통유리에 욕장에서도 도야호수를 볼 수 있고 노천탕이 있어 좋았다. 1시 도착하여 체크인을 가능했으나 룸으로 들어갈 수 없어 수영장을 먼저갔는데, 투숙객임에도 룸의 수건을 갖고 올 수 없다고 대여를 했다. 페이스타올, 바디타올 1세트로 300엔이었다. 수영장 내의 탈의실에는 특별한 것이 없어 수영이 끝난 후에는 물기만 닦고 대욕장 또는 룸으로 이동해서 씻어야 한다. 수영장이 넓고 후기에서도 봤지만 돌고래, 가오리 튜브를 무료로 이용할 수 있었다. 원형튜브의 경우 대여도 해준다. 4살 아이와 놀기에 부족함이 없었다. 길이별로 빨강, 노랑, 파랑 미끄럼틀이 있고 슬라이드미끄럼틀도 있어 어른들도 즐기기 좋았다. 파도풀도 시간대별로 있는데 재미있고 좋았다. 식사는 무난하였다. 뷔페로 진행하여 맛이나 양에 부족함을 없었다.

• anonymous (10/5): - We had a great stay at Toya Sun Palace. The resort provided a bus service that picked us up from Sapporo for free, saving some money, though unfortunately it took over an hour longer than scheduled. The resort is impressive with the glass-walled lobby overlooking the lake, though the onsen areas were a bit smaller than expected. The Japanese style room was basic but comfortable, and housekeeping makes up the tatami sleeping mats at night. The room has its own small bathroom and a view of the lake, though the view is better elsewhere on the resort. Breakfast and dinner were included. The buffet had a very good range of food in our opinion, for both dinner and breakfast, and the quality was good by typical buffet standards. The separate male and female onsens had a range of baths, including an outdoor one overlooking the lake. It could be very crowded in peak season. The water is 38-40 degrees, which feels very hot but you adjust to it. There is a very faint smell of chlorine (much less than a normal swimming pool), but no sulphur or other smells. There is a nightly fireworks show on the lake which was nice, Tahitian entertainment performances everyday, and wearing the yukata around the resort was also enjoyable. We made the mistake of only staying one night, which was too short and didn't leave time to see the water fun park or go to Nakajima Island on the lake. We would definitely consider staying at Toya Sun Palace again, though maybe not during crowded peak season.

• Verified traveler (2/5): The worst hotel experience ever! - It's a really nightmare for us. The room was full of unpleasant smell, no AC inside the room and the ceiling wall was full of stain. We tried to exchange to another room but the hotel manager told us the hotel was full. However, we checked here and it's obviously not full! Many tours stay here, the dinner buffet was fine but the place was burning, cant really stay there for more than 30mins. Will never come back to this hotel again!

• Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing view - Although the resort is rather old, the surrounding view is still amazing. We had a great time having dinner while watching sunset. The pool wave is another plus point for the kids.

• angela (10/5): 物超所值的溫泉飯店 - 飯店備有札幌到洞爺湖的來回接駁車，大廳氣派，一泊二食的餐點美味，尤其難忘早餐的海鮮井，坐在湖畔欣賞美景與享受佳餚，感覺非常享受，另外湯池也是令人難忘，邊泡湯還能欣賞海天一色的美景，唯一缺點是飯店房間老舊且有菸味(我訂的是洋室雙人房)，整體而言物超所值，會再回購！
• Thomas (6/5): Air-conditioning system needs a major overhaul! - The lobby was very posh and welcoming but I am afraid the rooms and air-conditioning system needs sprucing up. It was warm and stuffy in the rooms although we turned up the air-conditioning to the max - you wouldn't be able to feel it at all. The food was ok. We stayed at this hotel on our 2nd night at Lake Toya and could easily compare this hotel with the other resort we stayed at on our 1st night. The other resort was excellent in all aspects but unfortunately they did not have rooms for the second night and we opted for this one instead and we were disappointed. Service wise, there was nothing to complain about - they were polite and attended to queries well and they do have good amenities such as a big video arcade for the children and even a big table-tennis room for booking. They also have a big indoor swimming pool with slides. Pity that the rooms and air-conditioning failed them.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful lounge & onsen - The common areas are beautiful. The lounge was stunning and so was the view from the onset. The view from the room was great but the rooms are extremely dated. I took the western room, which was on a smoking floor. My clothes and hair reeked of smoke when I woke up. Meal times end really early and it felt like a huge cafeteria.

• k (6/5): 観光 - はじめに通されたお部屋、異臭があり消臭剤で、消えるかなと使ってみましたが、全く効果なく最終的にはフロントに連絡してきて確認してもらいお部屋をかえていただきました。喫煙可のお部屋でしたが、それだけの匂いじゃありません。お風呂はどの時間帯も混んでいた。お食事は美味しかった。特に夜のデザートは最高。無理してでも全てを食べたくなります。
• Verified traveler (8/5): Splendid lake view, lack of human touch - This hotel has a splendid lake view from its hotel lobby and from its outdoor onsen. Scrumptious breakfast and dinner buffet with good variety of foods. The receptionist staff and the onsen cleaner lady are not that friendly. Its dining place is very particular on their breakfast and dinner hours, make sure you do not go enter the dining hall late, or you have to find your own way to get your food in the winter time. Their staff is too focus on standard operating procedure and lack of human touch. Avoid peak season if you do not want to queue for your food. The room is clean but it looks old now(I can imagine its grandeur in the past though.) Overall, I enjoy its lobby and outdoor onsen most.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - 찾아가갈때 많이 힘들었습니다. 렌트하면 아주 편하겠지만 교통을 이용해서 간다면 이곳은 추천하고싶은 호텔은 아닙니다. 이곳은 아주 조용하고, 편한하고, 경차가 끝내주는곳 입니다. 특히 온천을 즐길때 힐링이 많이 되었습니다. 하지만 수영장 이용을 못해서 굉장히 아쉬웠습니다. 사전에 이메일로 알려줬더라면 일정을 조정해서 갔었을텐데 그런부분이 좀 아쉬웠습니다.
• chong (8/5): - We stayed one night in Jan. We are lucky being allocated the new renovated room. Thought the room is not big but comfortable and clean. This hotel is not closed to the train station or center, so they have a store at ground. One thing we are appreciated was they provided free shuttle bus from/to Sapporo and the hotel. Super convenient especially in winter season. Spa also very nice especially outdoor spa. But don’t expect too much on dinner buffet. Overall we are happy and enjoy to stay.
• fl (10/5): Nice view from outdoor Onsen - Hotel has nice decoration, staff is nice, bed is comfortable. I specially like the view from outdoor onsen. The evening performance is wonderful. I only didn’t like the buffet restaurant environment—too many people and too much noise.
• Ek Song Mervyn (8/5): - Everything needs a refurbishment. Service standard seems shallow perhaps we were not Japanese. Buffet Chefs and waiters no smiles. We were told to leave asap after the give time. Could not relax and enjoy our meal.

• JONG MYONG (2/5): 최악의 호텔.... - 이런 호텔에 대한 정확한 평가를 해주면 좋겠습니다. 지금까지 살면서 이렇게 형편없고 관리가 안되는 호텔은 처음 가봅니다. 다른 지역과 호텔이 아니었으면 이 소중한 여행이 다 망가질뻔 했네요. 주위 배경 때문에 온천은 좋다는 의견이 있으나 다른 것 들을 상태를 봤을 때는 온천 물도 제대로 관리가 될까 싶네요. 음식, 특히 룸 상태 최악이었습니다. 이십만원 이상의 돈을 지불한 것이 너무 너무 속상합니다. 만원이라도 안주고 머물고 싶습니다.
• Dennis (8/5): Lakeside View - Fantastic lobby and infinity ofuro (public bath) view of Lake Toya! Otherwise a typical large hotel catering to tour groups (enormous dining hall--food not bad for a buffet--and modest rooms--reserve the VIP room for unobstructed view of firework show from the balcony). Although there is a free shuttle bus leaving Sapporo in the morning (contact hotel to reserve a seat), alternative transport will need a little planning (and cost).

• MINJUN (10/5): excellent hotel - Very satisfied with the hot spring spa with an outdoor area offering a magnificient view out to the toya lake. Buffet dinner was excellent as well. But our twin bed room showed its age with its old furniture and bathroom.
• Alan (4/5): - The room is dated. Toilet is small and worn out. the tatami bed looks old. Staffs doesn't seem friendly. Carpark is not within the hotel compound but opposite in an open space. Only thing we like are the food spread for dinner and breakfast with nice view of Lake Toya. Theres also a pet area where you got to pay for a 10min play with either cats or dogs at the lobby.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Large hotel with a great onsen - Amazing view from your own room and great onsen with infinity pool. We visited during early May and the room was very stuffy. Staff said the system only operates to blow hot air out, and gave us a table fan and told us to open the full height window to vent. The latter solution wasn't possible as we have small children and our room was on the 10th floor. Dinner/breakfast buffet food quality was ok, but when it was full, be prepared to fight with 300 plus guests for food. Elevators were insufficient and give yourself more time to go anywhere. The fireworks show was nice though as you can watch it literally from your own room.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Terrible hotel - Hugely disappointed. Hotel is old, and there was a bad smell in the hallway of the guest rooms.!!! LOTS of people, especially at dinner. It was quite a hassle to find and get your food as you have to fight the crowd. Dinner food was cheap stuff, there was not much quality. Receptionist was efficient at check-in, but was very economical with her effort - she did not even give me some essential information personally, let alone make me feel welcome. I did not feel like I was in Japan as usually Japanese people treat their customers with great hospitality. This is supposed to be a 4-star hotel? In my opinion it is 2 stars at most!

• Jonathan (10/5): Stunning hotel - The lobby of the hotel is absolutely stunning. Every room has a view to Toya lake and the island. The beauty of this place is absolutely overwhelming. The real highlight of this hotel is the onsen, open air hot spring bath with a view to the lake. Worth it. The rooms are ok, nothing out of the ordinary. The food is great. Staff are friendly and even if their English is not perfect they'll always try to be helpful.

• thecla (6/5): our lake toya journey - The hotel looked grand and well furnished at the lobby but the cold welcome upon arrival at the reception desk wasn't welcoming. Our deduction is they have bus loads of tourist and they were not keen to smile to any at this rate. The rooms at our wing were rather old and would certainly need a new upgrade otherwise the rest of the hotel facilities ( swimming pool and onsen) were both wonderful. The breakfast area and selection was impressive. My family of 4 have stayed here twice and hopefully if we do come again the next round, the rooms and service will improve. Location was great!
• Tay (10/5): Great Fireworks and Steaks! - Great stay and meals at Lake Toya Sun Palace. Room condition was rather old but it was clean nevertheless. It smelt of cigarette smoke on the first day but improved subsequently. Highlight will be the daily fireworks on the lake which is directly in front of hotel. Will never forget the fireworks finale. Buffet meals were good too especially the beef steaks!

• William (4/5): itinerary #14021404499 problem with check-in - Date: July 13th, 2015 evening (9:15 - 10:30 pm) Incident: Missing room confirmation from hotel side (itin# 14021404499) The front desk missed this booking confirmationon July 13th-14th but received another booking on July 14th-15th (Itin# 14021589102). Initially, the front desk staff mentioned that we could only check-in next day (July 14th). We had to find our only solution for the night stay on July 13th. The front desk and supervisor were very reluctant to help out. They claimed they did not receive Expedia booking. When Expedia resent the confirmation, they were still reluctant to give us 2 rooms. With our persistence and patience to negotiate for close to one hour, they finally gave us 2 rooms with tatami. We had back pain so that we insisted 2 rooms with 2 twin-size beds. Finally, the hotel supervisor gave us 2 rooms with 2 twin beds. However, those rooms might not get cleaned up, but still we had place to sleep. In summary, both supervisor and front desk staff were very inflexible and defended their hotel policy. The front desk staff changed to more flexible and accommodating after 45 minutes of negotiation. If we were not persistent enough, we could have to sleep in our car or at the hotel lobby! It's quite unpleasant experience that we suffered because of missing confirmation from hotel side.
