- Anne (6/5): Disappointing! - Play Vik has the perfect location and the architecture is really spectacular in this particular setting. However, the hotel really needs lots of TLC. It is looking VERY tired. Outdoor and indoor sofas need to be re-uphostered and or cleaned. Screens need to be changed. The plaster from our sink was broken. The corner of the vanity was damaged by water and the veneer peeling … Need i say more? (I have take photos). No bathrobes in the room which is too sparsely furnished. Chair in our room needs to be cleaned or re-upholstered too. No coffee machines are provided in the room although we did ask for one and they did provide one for us in the end as breakfast starts at 8:00am! We were very few guests at the hotel but staff was not particularly attentive. Food was okay. Compared to other international hotels of the same category it failed to meet epectations in both service and property.
- ximenapZ7879RK (10/5): My favorite hotel in my own country - Im uruguayan and I stayed over at playa vik with a friend for one night at the end of march. We were already in punta del este and when I told my friend about this place, we decided on the spot to stay there on Sunday, instead of leaving for Montevideo. The day was perfect for march and we swam on the pool all day, watched the sunset and it was perfect, and at night swimming with the star like lights is truly a dream! I believe the pool was slightly heated because it was never cold, considering it was Fall already.
Our room was amazing, it was called zen, had two twin beds, a private garden and a sea view, even though it was garden view, you could still see the ocean.
We brought a bottle of wine and the hotel bar they were very kind to keep it chilled and pour us our wine.
We spent all day at the pool and never left the hotel.
After the pool closed we went over to the bonfire to end the day, it was truly magical.
I’ve always dreamed of staying at this hotel and I couldn’t believe how magical the whole experience was. I hope to stay there again.
We also shared a couple of drinks and a dessert at the pool. On the next day, breakfast was soooo good! I had to take on a meeting and I did it over the common area since it was raining outside.
Thanks to ale from the bar, very nice to us with his recommendations!
- Aramis (10/5): - Muito boa
- robertad234 (10/5): One of the most incredible restaurants in the world! - We’ve had an amazing experience at CieloMar restaurant, at Play Vik hotel. Food is gorgeous, the views are incredible, and the architecture is out of this world! Prices are reasonable and according to their service and quality. We’ll certainly be back! ♥️
- gonzalo (10/5): - Simple the best place to spend your best moments on this life. Thanks Facundo for your hospitality and kindness 🙏
- Raquel (10/5): - Had very nice and enjoyable time
- ROSANGELA (10/5): - The staff
- 593kristinag (6/5): Very mixed - I have very mixed feelings about this place.
The good :
Great location,
Futuristic design of hotel with attention to detail in furniture etc
Spacious suites with floor to ceiling windows,
Right on the beach,
Infinity pool with exceptional sunsets over it,
Staff members work hard and try to meet your needs.
The bad:
Limited staff means important areas like reception are often left unattended.
There is refurbishment works as soon as you walk in so access to main building is tricker and also it’s not aesthetically pleasing to constantly see the construction.
In our 1,000$ a night suite, the aircon didn’t work and the heating couldn’t be switched off so it got to the point that we were sweating in a 28 degree room and had to stay in the room with the front door open to let air in.
The second night our blackout blinds were disabled by the staff without anyone informing us. They tried to get them to work but unsuccessfully and I asked how we are meant to sleep without them and the reply was « oh it’s ok, the sun doesn’t come up until 8am ». I thought that was a strange reply so I looked and the sunrise time was just before 6. And even if it WERE two hours later, for guests who are paying 1,000 a night, there should be no excuse for not being able to close the blinds. In the end, they found a room next door (with working blinds and a working aircon) which we moved into for the last night.
The gym has very old rusty equipment which needs changing asap.
Details in the rooms and hotel itself need some TLC- scuffing/ peeling paint/ dirty windows… just general neglect.
Food was not great. Especially breakfast which only had toasted bread at the « buffet » and the only thing you can request from the kitchen is eggs. For the price you are paying, a full menu would be nice. Also « cacio and Pepe pasta » is NOT plain pasta with a side of parmesan…
Overall, the hotel is gorgeous and location is stunning but I really wish the owners/ management would be more present to make it feel less neglected. I’ve put photos of both the good and the bad.
- danielsV376OY (2/5): Stay away - Setting is beautiful. Service is fine.
Rooms are worse than a motel room despite extremely high rates. Nothing worked properly in room (toilets, outlets). Mold in bathrooms, damaged mill work, super cheap furniture and bedding. Really awful experience.
- Jon (10/5): - We loved our 3 night stay at Playa Vik. We checked in late and Nat the manager made it so smooth. The property is remarkably set on the bay and seamlessly blending into its location, not disrupting the sleepy old fishing village vibe. The important art installed in the main building is visually and intellectually stimulating as is the library off the main dining room. We also enjoyed the other two properties, Bahia and Estancia Vik. It was the cerise Sur Le gateau of our trip to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
- yclav123 (2/5): GREED OVER COMPASSION - NO REFUND DESPITE DESPITE A DEATH IN THE FAMILY - DO NOT STAY AT ANY OF THE VIK PROPERTIES. A heads up about this upscale hotel chain...
We understand cancellation policies however there needs to be flexibility and compassion when a mother passes away during a vacation. We tried cancelling a week in advance of arrival, offered a death certificate and this hotel's greed prevented them from giving us a refund.
ALL OF THE OTHER HOTELS WE BOOKED AND HAD TO CANCEL GAVE US A FULL REFUND.
- Judith (10/5): The fabulous vik - The staff was so amazing, every single person was happy, friendly and helpful, plus they made us laugh
We can’t wait to return in 2023
- Davy (10/5): - Incredible hotel ! Service 5 stars !!! We ll come back very soon.. Perfection !
- wextraveler (10/5): hip beachfront hotel where service is top priority - playa vik is an intimate, luxury oceanfront hotel in jose ignacio, a hamptons/malibu-like beach town in uruguay. the hotel is decorated with very cool art, is wonderfully comfortable, and has a very cool vibe.
while we had a couple of days of less-than-perfect weather, the hotel measured up in almost every way, and when we encountered anything that was less than perfect, the general and operations managers, concierges, and all the staff worked very hard to make it better. and in every case they succeeded! thank you sabrina, david, delfina, camila, franco, pamela, patricia, marcos, and mauricio (sorry if i keft simeone out) - your responsiveness was extraordinary, when one of our rooms had an air conditioning problem at midnight, franco arranged for overnight accommodations at the neighboring property, bahia vik. technicians came out first thing the next morning (a sunday!) and checked out absolutely everything that could be wrong, could go wrong, and had gone wrong, until everyone was certain the cooling system worked properly. and even though the hotel had not planned to serve dinner on new years eve, they opened their kitchen in response to our request to “eat in” that night. not many hotels would do that. jose ignacio has wonderful restaurants and interesting shops. off the beaten path and lots of fun,
- DAVID (8/5): - I did not like the policy of adding a tip to all areas of the bill
Why pay a tip for buying a sweater in the shop
I had to ask for a manual adjustment
Otherwise a fantastic place with great staff
- VoxVolpe (10/5): Stunning and Magical Hotel - We love Uruguay and absolutely love Jose Ignacio. Playa Vik is a special spot that is modern yet comfortable. Service was very good and the rooms are amazing. You can walk to La Huella and the town and yet be removed to the tranquility of the property. The property and the town have a feeling that is hard to replicate and this is must spot for globetrotters.
- 243warrenh88 (10/5): Stunning hotel right by the sea - My wife and I had the great pleasure of attending a wedding celebration at Playa Vik in March 2019. We stayed three nights at the property, and didn't want to leave.
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the amazing architecture, and the even more amazing view of the sea from our rooms.
The staff on the premises took great care of us and we were made to feel at home from the get go. While my friend's wedding was the main highlight, I was pleasantly surprised with a birthday cake the day after, from the hotel.
There was a decent spread of food for breakfast, and the food from the restaurant in the main building was good. There is a lovely game room where one can play ping pong, and a gym if one did not wish to engage with the beach right on your doorstep or swim in the infinity pool.
This was an unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for relaxation with killer views of the sea, and top notch service.
- kevinvest1 (10/5): Amazing ultra-modern architecture with rooms that will take your breath away - We stayed at Playa Vik for 4 nights what an experience. This ultra-modern resort is an architectural jewel with great artwork and amazing rooms. We were fortunate enough to have the room directly over the cantilevered infinity pool. At sunset, the pool area can get crowded with guests from Playa Vik and Bahia Vik taking pictures of the sunset. Our room had floor to ceiling windows that slid open by remote control for great photos of the sunsets.
Our room itself was amazing our walk-in closet was comprised of beautiful wood shelves and drawers the size of a small bedroom, the hallway as long as a bowling alley and an extremely comfortable bed looking out to the ocean. The bathroom was huge and beautifully designed. Probably the largest and most outstanding hotel or resort room we have ever stayed in and we have seen most of the world.
The included breakfast was delicious with a wide array of choices.
The staff was top notch and very helpful with anything we needed, they even made lunch and dinner reservations at all the restaurant we were interested in and had a typed list of these reservations when we checked in.
As an example of their amazing service one night our taxi was 10 minutes late showing up to take us to dinner. The next night they had a staff member with a car waiting for us a half hour ahead of time so there would be no delay.
This is what luxury is all about!
- pallagijohn (8/5): Sun, cocktails & wedding proposal - What a venue. Another Vik Masterclass. Superb decor. We popped in for afternoon tea. And what a delight. Had great seats watching the sun set. A wedding proposal at the pool and super cool crowd. Slight disappointment in the bar staff challenging our view that the beer was warm. Customer is usually right! Eventually convinced him. But be under no illusions this is THE place to watch the sun set on the Atlantic. We loved it.
- Rtvet (10/5): Top end Boutique with extraordinary architecture - Whilst it’s not the cheapest place to stay it’s position , rooms and level of service are excellent . With a unique infinity pool looking towards the busy town of Puerto d’este this hotel is situated in a small peninsular of large and impressive Villas looking out to the Atlantic . With so much superb real estate comes a wide range of excellent bars and restaurants and with superb weather is a great place to finally chill out of you have been like us on a massive S American tour. The hotel food, service and wines are what you would expect but you can easily wander out to a local bar and have great food at very reasonable prices. For readers from U.K. this is like Cornwall on steroids ...but as our guide said , at night time the main noise is the Atlantic wind blowing compared to the night life of Its neighbouring resort across the bay . You won’t find night clubs here but you will find the most relaxed, chilled place to have a great time with friends
- stantarron (10/5): Awesome - We in the room CARAS for 7 nights, love the arts around especially James turrell and Zaha Hadid, lovely sunset from our room, great food, friendly staff... We wish to stay longer... Definitely coming back again...
- RBW12TH (10/5): Special and perfect - We spent two fabulous nights at Playa Vik. Though our trip was slightly off-season (in November, before the high season of December/January) and not everything in José Ignacio was open, we still fell in love with this charming, stylish town and the Playa Vik. Totally unique, the building itlsef is a piece of art, a modern sculpture sitting on the beach of this laidback surfing town (truly Uruguay’s answer to Malibu/Montauk). Our room was spacious, meticulously clean and had the most unbelievable views. The service was discreet but totally attentive. I would absolutely stay again and hope I can! Unbelievable architecture and landscaping. We visited the other Viks which are cool - Bahia Vik is slightly larger and slightly farther from town, Estancia Vik is a country estate several kilometers from the coast. Playa Vik was my favorite. Lunch at La Huella is a must (you can walk from Playa Vik). Dinner at La Juana and La Olada both really special - La Juana particularly. I can’t wait to visit José Ignacio again!
- Panatraveler15 (10/5): Worth doing simply fantastic - Fantastic location, excellent service highly attentive staff who really anticipate every need. Breakfast is all home made and tasty, lunch and dinner are fine dining with fresh local produce. We came to check it out for one night and ended staying for two. One of the best in Uruguay.
- Nano1973 (10/5): Perfect hotel Great Location - Located in one of the best summer town that I ever visited.
Playa Vik is the perfect hotel to stay during one of the most amazing spot for summer vacation
Punta del Este is the summer paradise for the Argentinians and jose ignacio is the place to be and to be seen.
Playa Vik is a luxurious boutique hotel located in the perfect spot of the town.
The view of the sunset at La Mansa Beach of Jose Ignacio is breath taking
The hotel rooms are incredible, the decor and the look is spot on
The service is very good and the breakfast it totally worth it
You are walking distance to al the best places in this vibrant town
Totally worth it
