Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): Good clean room for the night. - Staff friendly and helpful, room was clean and had everything we needed for 1 night stay. Had dinner in the pub, service was friendly and quick. Food was pub food and was hot.
- Mark (10/5): - Great Pub/Hotel well worth booking staff are great and food is good
- Peter (2/5): Simply the worst - Shabby room. Poor decor. Decrepit furniture.Black mould.
The room was not fit for habitation.
- Susan (6/5): Building being renovated. Staff extremely helpful. - The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, but there were several areas which I feel could be improved:
The hotel was undergoing extensive exterior work which blocked the road leading to the car park - no notification of this and no directions on getting to the car park. Luckily there is plenty of free car parking elsewhere in the town.
We arrived on a Sunday but were told they weren't serving food. We were directed to various take-aways and were offered plates and cutlery on our return. Monday's meal was good, although there was more fat on my souvlaki than pork, but the rest of it was delicious. The churros for dessert were superb.
The bed in our room was very comfortable - I had over 9 hours sleep the first night! However, the wallpaper was peeling and the shower room was quite dirty. Also, the toilet had an attached macerator which gave off an extremely unpleasant smell whilst in use. That being said, once the renovations are completed, I'd go back for another stay.
- Andrew (8/5): - The room was very clean and tidy, breakfast was very nice and the staff were polite and helpful.
- Justyn (8/5): - A great straight forward room that was clean and a good size.
Maybe they could serve breakfast from 7am or 8am, but other than that I will return
- Jennifer (10/5): - We had a lovely stay here, breakfast was delicious, bed was clean and comfy and the staff were all friendly. The room was a little on the small side but perfectly adequate for our needs and parking was tight but we managed. Lovely hotel and we would use again :)
- Donna (6/5): - The corridors in annex building but particularly main building, past kitchens, had a strong old oil cooking smell, which didnt leave your nostrils! Otherwise, nice room and restaurant.
- Ray (2/5): - So disappointed did not stay. Have spoken to your staff on line who are looking for a complete refund. The whole building was run down and needed a complete refurbishment.
Room was tiny. Carpet badly stained. Entry to room was via a very rusty iron stairway.
The whole ambience was very offputting.
- L A (10/5): Great place to stay - A Great place to stay, excellent value, food in the hotel was good and great beer. Parking off road on site.
- Kim (4/5): - Hotel very tired. Needs a redecoration. Not very clean. Shower grouting is discoloured, it’s been hoovered near furniture and there are piles of hair/dust around the bottom of the hanging unit, it either needs moving or using a nozel on the hoover. Electrics tripped while in the bathroom (with no windows!). Bathroom not too clean. Comfy bed.
- Kelvin (8/5): - Centrally located with its own small car park.
The rooms overlooking the car park have been refurbished but are small yet surprisingly quiet.
Food offer was limited but what we had was very
- Paul (10/5): One night stay - Could not fault it for the price
- William (4/5): - The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is fine. The rooms are tired. But their is no excuse for the room and ensuite being dirty. We will not be back.
- Karen (8/5): - Shower tiles badly set, shower door marked as liable to fall off unless you open very carefully.
Mens toilet in main bar area has no hook on door if you need to hang a coat/Mac when using the facilities.
Staff very nice and helpful. Fabric of the building a bit tired.
- Naomi (6/5): 1 night stay - Room was dated with unlevel floor, bathroom and room was not the cleanest.
Check in went well and we were given room 6 to change into as we were due to attend a wedding and needed to be out before check in time. This was very accommodating and we were thankful for this. We ordered a breakfast on the morning which we both really enjoyed - no faults and they very kindly let me swop bacon to sausage in a toasted sandwich, again we appreciated this. Bed was comfy. Tv in room, wardrobe to hang clothes and two charging sockets (although one was quite loose)
- Iris (10/5): - Lovely room although a little small. No storage room for bags. We only have a small dog but struggled to put his bed somewhere that we wouldn't trip over him when going to the toilet in the night.
- Christopher (6/5): We had a Great time but...... - We were here with friends for one night. It was a Saturday night we booked in and were told room three was directly above the disco that was in the pub that night and toom 7 was a bit further away., oh and the dj will finish at 1:00 , The rooms we were given were decribed as supirior doubles the room, could do with a bit of tlc, bathroom was ok, the bed itself was excellent very comfortable. Just a note there were no wardrobes. I will say we had a great night and enjoyed the disco and ended up going to bed aboit 12 oclock. We could hear the disco below it was quite lound, but we were ok with it. We didnt have breakfast but it did look very nice.Dont think this place would be idea for someone who wanted an early night and was a light sleeper, probably fine when no entertainment.
- luke (8/5): - Nice spacious room, great menu and a varied choice, pleasant friendly staff. Bathroom wasn’t the cleanest especially the shower, lots of mould around the seals of the shower doors
- Anthony (10/5): - It started well with a very warm welcome on arrival and a hostess who had a good sense of humour which is always a bonus for me with my humour. She was friendly and showed where the room was rather than just giving directions... I was there for the one night and the room was very comfortable and has all you need in it and you could stay a couple of days comfortably. The breakfast in the morning although had to be paid for, was affordable and very nice. If I happen to be in the area again I would stay again.
- Zoe (8/5): Compact and comfortable - We like the fact dogs are welcome in this hotel . The room was comfortable and clean. We met family in the bar and had a lovely evening and breakfast is great!
- Inga (8/5): Good hotel - Nice Hotel , nice room. Very clean which was amazing. The Hotel needs renovation but for the price overall is ok. Staff friendly, great location . Very pleased with the stay
- Kim (6/5): - Affordable and basic - if cleaned well would make more enjoyable stay. Staff at pub were very friendly.
- Michael (2/5): - Reached out to let them know that we were coming in late. Never heard back. Showed up and everything was locked up with no way of getting in. Had to scramble to find another place to stay for the night.
- Russell (8/5): - Nice old pub great landlord, food very good. 3 real ales kept well. Room was very big , bathroom nice. But could of been cleaned better, urine stains down front of toilet and not cleaned under seat.
Over areas were in need of a deep clean.
- Phil (10/5): - Mattress wasn't in the best condition. The breakfast didn't start until 9am, too late for people working
- Freddie (8/5): - Lovely service and easy access to the hotel. Very basic bedroom for the price. Breakfast was excellent. Bed was bit uncomfortable but not complaining for the price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely, lovely stay! - Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, although they were busy. We had a lot on so slept soundly but it is a fun, lively, busy pub, travellers who need an early night might struggle in the external rooms
- Jon (8/5): 9 0ut of 10 ! - Excellent room overlooking the courtyard
Outside seating from bar a benefit on a warm evening ! Realistic room rate .
- S (8/5): A good stop over - a good stop off place, clean and friendly staff. A little noisy at night, but it was Friday and in the centre of town
very good breakfast 👍
- Jonathan (10/5): - Good location, friendly staff
- Tom (8/5): - Very comfortable clean room above a pub. Nice bed nice sized room very reasonably priced. Car park though busy had spaces both times I needed them. Bit of advice, book taxi's ahead of time and share the cost if attending Clock barn for a wedding. ££ taxi and long waits.
- Christine (6/5): - Cosy, middle of small ancient town.
No breakfast, although it states included on Expedia site.
Flashing lights coming from fire alarm in my room at 3 a.m. which stopped at about 4 a.m.
- Mark (10/5): A Hotel to relax in - Great atmospheric hotel in centre of Whitchurch.. great food .. great service. . well recommended I will book again.
- Gary (2/5): Just no for many reasons - Wonkiest place i have ever stayed in.
Bathroom old, stinky and filthy. Bed uncomfotrable and on a slope....like i said a wonky building.
It was built in 1491...by the looks of it, it is 500 years past its scheduled demolition.
Sash windows with no sound insulation. You can hear a mouse fart in the street below and you dont need to listen hard.
- Phil (8/5): - Pleasant stay, especially now the rooms have been modernised.
- Benedict (10/5): - Really friendly staff. Very pretty building nice roo.
- Alexander (8/5): The bells! - Woken up hourly in the morning by the bells of the town hall opposite! Deluxe room and ensuite was pleasant hut abit dated. Bathroom was nice but shower/bath was difficult to use and not very responsive. Really loud toilet flush for some reason. King bed needs a new mattress but the pillows were ok. Basic tea/coffee station but only one complementary pack of biscuits between two people! Overall good stay for the value!
- Steve (4/5): Not good value - Not much of a welcome, run down room and the chef never turned up for breakfast.
- Fabio (10/5): Good value for money country pub - Good value for money country pub.
- Stuart (4/5): - Probably the worst bed I’ve laid on. For your own sake, don’t pull the beds out. Last time that was hoovered was probably when the carpet was fitted.
Served a purpose and was cheap at £46 but wow.
- philip (8/5): A good stopping off spot- great food and service - An old style coaching inn. Room was freshly decorated and clean with good facilities. It was a little tight for space - glad we didn’t have big suitcases. Service and staff were excellent with extremely good breakfast and dinner. Also very dog friendly.
- Carole (6/5): - The hotel is extremely tired looking and requires updating. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate dinner here which was average. Breakfast was excellent!!! The bed was comfortable. The hotel is in a good central position
- Tim (10/5): Ideal for distillery - Ideal place to stay to visit the distillery which is a short bus ride away. Room is compact but nice, would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value for money - Great value for money however the rooms are a little worn around the edges. My biggest concern was having to listen to a constant dialogue between the staff at breakfast time complaining to each other about their other colleagues and their shifts. Need to take it away from your customers! Food on the other hand was delicious.
- TONY (6/5): Not the best value for money - We stayed in a room in a concerted outbuilding. The room was very tired, the batroom floor had sunk and cold air blows in from outside. The TV would not switch off even though we put new batteries in the remote.
We have stayed upstairs in the main building before which is much better.
- Jane (4/5): Generally poor - The staff were all pleasant but our bedroom needed updating/ painting/ new carpet/ better furniture and definitely a good clean! The shower had black mould around edges ( and on the window frames of the bedroom window) and everywhere needed a thorough clean.
We were very disappointed with the room.
The food in the restaurant was good. I would have liked a choice of cereal on the breakfast menu.
- Owen Number (10/5): - Good clean friendly warm
- Howad (8/5): - Stairs dodgy for elderly
- Kate (10/5): - Checked in early. Nice clean room. Perfect for what we needed.
- Charlotte-Rose (10/5): - Lovely property
Lovely room
Nice and quite!!
Lovely staff
- Caroline (10/5): Excellent location for Bombay Sapphire Distillery. - Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed the night as were doing a tour and cocktail class at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery. Left the car in the car park and the staff very helpful told us there was a bus. Told us the bus number, times and where to get it. It was an easy 5 minutes bus ride to the distillery and was brilliant as we could all drink without worrying about who wasn't going to so could drive. The bus was only £2 so also much cheaper than a taxi. The rooms were comfortable and had everything in them that you would need. Bed was comfortable and shower had good pressure. We ate in the pub the evening and the food was excellent and very good value for money. Breakfast was again very tasty and good value for money. Would definitely stay again.
- Simran (6/5): - We were woken up at 7am by very loud drilling in the room next to us
- Zoe (8/5): - A comfortable and cosy room- I liked the dog friendly hotel and the food was great!
- Sarah (10/5): - A lovely room, nicely decorated and clean. The price is exceptionally good value.
- Neil (10/5): - Clean, small room, you need nothing more if staying for 1 night. Lovely staff. Good drinks and food service in the evening and for breakfast
- Nicholas (10/5): - Nice place to stay. Very helpful and friendly staff. Happily return if we are in the area in the future
- Arden (10/5): - Perfect location for what we needed the room for. The room was clean, presentable, freshly decorated amd well stocked. Staff were friendly and super helpful when we checked in. Breakfast was delicious and well priced the next morning.
- M A F (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff, lovely small quaint room. Lovely breakfast. No complaints at all, cheers 👍👍
- Brian (8/5): Stop off from ferry port - Lovely hotel well situated in town . Room had everything you would need, and comfortable bed The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Nice restaurant and bar and very dog friendly which was a bonus Would definitely stay here again next time in the area
- Matthew (10/5): - Lovely room. Great facilities in a lovely little village. Parking is not great but there was a local free car park down the road.
- Eileen (10/5): Good accommodation - Comfortable pub accommodation. The room was very clean and good shower
- John (8/5): - Nice staff
- Darren (8/5): White Hart, Whitchurch - Loved the idea of a traditional inn, pub, restaurant and somewhere to sleep. No missing the lovely pub right on the junction, came from Kent and was easy to find. All staff were really friendly. Room had everything you needed, only things, room was a bit dusty in places and the shower did not drain well at all. But these are picky bits. The menu in the restaurant is typical pub grub and was happy, best sticky toffee pudding ive ever had. After being out for the day at nearby distillery, we headed back for some drinks. Pub had live music (although not my choice of music), pub had a good atmosphere and locals were very chatty. Would recommend and would definitely stay here again
- Sylvia (10/5): Needs a refurb. - Comfortable hotel, though very dated. Beds very comfortable but all the furniture needs replacing throughout the hotel. Fairly clean. Really could do with a complete refurbishment. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Ok for a one night stay.
- John (10/5): Jp - Ideal for working away plenty of food options
- harry (2/5): Run down and would not recommend - Friendly staff but awful accommodation. Outdated and run down. Whilst sat at breakfast we over heard anther customer complain about their accommodation for the same reasons. The staff then said rooms 4, 5 & 11 were by far the worst and needed to be fully gutted they were so bad. Note we stayed in 4 and completely agree.
over priced for what was included.
- Brian (8/5): - Old world property takes you back to the past clean property and. Friendly staff very helpful staff only had one breakfast excellent on our return trip to Canada we returning for one day to look forward around town
- Wayne (10/5): - Close to village centre and convenient for local walks.
- Mark (10/5): Fabulous hotel great atmosphere 👌 - A great hotel ....staff are really genuine and friendly.. ....lovely atmosphere in a beautiful part of the world...only downside was the car park was often full so had to park on street....but would recommend and will stay there again.
- P (10/5): Excellent overnight room. - The room was small but fine for one night. It was clean, very comfortable & great value for money.
The breakfast was not great but it was adequate.
- Sarah (8/5): Family room - Stayed in a family room with 1 adult and x2 children. The room was comfortable and clean, as expected. Only down side was there was not a bath for children.
- Zahara (6/5): - Convenient and great village location. I stayed in a annex room and unfortunately got to share more of my neighbours late night/early am celebrations than I wanted!
- C (10/5): Excellent value for money. - We stayed for two nights in one of the recently refurbished rooms. Very clean and had everything you would need. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had breakfast both mornings and couldn’t fault it. There is parking, but it is limited. Our friends stayed in the older part of the hotel and said whilst there rooms was dated, it was very comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - good trip
- Boris (10/5): - Super clean room.
- Christine (10/5): Clean and cosy - Although an old pub the stay itself was great - some friends had twin rooms in the main pub itself and some in the annex - the rooms were clean and cosy
- Mary (4/5): - The pub part was quite nice, but there was a lack of parking and the rooms are considerably more shabby than the photos would suggest. Very noisy macerator toilet. No hot water in the shower.
I booked a superior double room, the first room was tiny and didn’t have a bath (picture suggested a roll top bath), so I was moved to a family room, which was ok, but really in need of a refresh. Bathroom was very tired.
- Paul (10/5): Recommended place to stay in Whitchurch - Good size room with good facilities and a comfortable bed. Easy check-in and helpful staff. Good bar and restaurant. The pub car park is rather small however there is a good amount of on road parking close by and a free overnight open car park within walking distance.
- Rodney (6/5): - The hotel has been upgraded since my last stay.
The rooms inside the pub are clean but basic with very creaky floors.
The staff are excellent and friendly.
- Gemma (10/5): - Great for visiting the Distillery
- Peter (8/5): Good old style hotel - Very convenient placed hotel. Very clean with helpful and pleasant staff. Good food and atmosphere. Can be noisy in the evening as it is a popular local hostelry. Parking is very limited but there is free parking available nearby.
- Kieran (10/5): - Great accommodation, staff very friendly and helpful
- Kate (10/5): - Lovely new room but surfaces need glass on as they will be ruined quite quickly with people’s glasses and hot tea! The fire alarm woke us up at 12.45 pm so maybe stress No smoking in rooms as I didn’t see any!!! Staff amazing and friendly
- Paul (10/5): - Charming place to stay
- Lindsey (10/5): - We had a lovely large room and bathroom at the property and the meal we booked for the evening was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were pleased that they happened to have a band playing the night we stayed.
- Michael (8/5): - Great location in the village, our particular room could do with a little TLC and clean but nothing too serious. Not too happy with the saniflow toilet but this is an old property so restricted pipeline might be the issue. Great helpful staff . Breakfast was great and the evening meal was very nice as well. Great bar area and also nice space outside . Limited car park but one just a few minutes walk away. Historical building so expect squeaky floors and doors , roads can be busy at times so ear plugs recommended.
- Linda (4/5): - It apparently had a refurbishment fairly recently but is still shabby in parts. Room was clean, except for carpet. Breakfast was very good. Parking is limited but free. Can be very noisy on some nights both in the pub / hotel and outside in the centre of Whitchurch . Blue Ginger Indian restaurant nearby is excellent if you want to eat in peace and quiet.
- Gisela (8/5): - Nice enough. Staff rather indifferent. Steps to rooms upstairs outside and exterior upstairs look neglected and uninviting. And for heaven’s sake, have some wash cloths for the guests who need them. Enjoyed my stay though.
- Lisa (10/5): Great room for the price - Great room for the price, clean, service was amazing and nicely furnished. Only downside would be very loud at night as we were over the pub garden. That said it’s great to see a local pub thriving and providing weekend entertainment for all ages. Nothing a pair of earplugs didn’t sort out 👍
- Hannah (10/5): - We had a lovely room overlooking the courtyard. The bed was very comfortable and the staff very friendly. Whitchurch is a charming little town and the White Hart is right in the centre.
- Julia (10/5): - Arrived with free parking in town. Greeted well. Room was excellent value for money. Newly decorated. Clean and warm.
Onsite parking came available later. (Limited spaces)
Great breakfast
We will be back
- Alfred (10/5): - Very nice rooms and friendly staff.
- S (4/5): Shabby and over priced. - Hotels messed up our booking which didn't get off to a good start. Be aware the hotel does not offer breakfast included. Rooms are clean but shabby. Our room had a big window that looked onto flats on the lithe side of the road, there was no privacy curtain up so we ended up with the big curtains shut when we were getting ready each day. My brothers room had what seemed like a waste pipe running through it which was ridiculous. The traffic outside was really loud. People were standing outside smoking and shouting until midnight. There is a clock tower opposite which sounds every hour. We paid more than we were quoted and this didn't include breakfast. On the plus side the evening meal and breakfast were very nice. Think they've tried for shabby chic but just managed shabby. Without breakfast included I really wouldn't pay more than £60 a night for the room. Will not be returning.
- Robert (10/5): - Lovely old hotel, well appointed, clean, close to everything you need. Pub and restaurant downstairs. Couldn't ask for more!
- Phil (10/5): - Lovely room, excellent food, and extremely friendly stall
- Mark (10/5): Couldn’t recommend enough! - Brilliant stay, helpful friendly staff. Great location for the Clock Barn wedding venue (about ten minutes in a taxi). The staff were great recommending local taxi firms. The White Hart had everything we needed to make the stay pleasurable.
- russell (10/5): Great value with good food and service. - The pub was great, service was excellent and they were very helpful in swapping my room to upgrade (additional guest) and speedy with breakfast as we had to leave early. The burger was amazing in the evening.
- Julie (8/5): Amazing staff! - Thanks to the lovely staff who were really accommodating, I had a great time. From the greeting in reception, to the waiting and cleaning staff! All were very friendly. I asked to change room as it was roadside and I am a light sleeper. There wasn’t even a hint of it being a problem!
- Michelle (10/5): - We booked the White Hart pub as it was a convenient place to stay after our visit to the Bombay Sapphire distillery. The room was a little dated but very clean and the bed comfortable. It’s an old pub so the floorboards upstairs in the room are creaky but this all adds to the character of the place!! The food in the restaurant was delicious and obviously home cooked…not the type of food you would get in some pubs!! The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you!! I would certainly come back again if I needed somewhere convenient to stay to visit the Bombay sapphire distillery!!
