- 444annettem (10/5): Perfect place to stay in Santiago - This hotel is a perfect place to stay in Santiago. It is located in a quiet residential suburb, yet within a safe walking distance to San Cristobal mountain and close to amazing cafes and restaurants. The staff, particularly Michaela (in the morning) could not be more helpful. The hotel is small only having 5 rooms which allows for a personalised experience. The courtyard out the back provides a serene and casual place to unwind and enjoy their red wine selection. The hotel has an emphasis on organic and eco friendly practices which is nice to see and the breakfast selection is all organic. There is an open snack section as well providing fruit and teas. I truly appreciated the safety aspect of the hotel as Santiago has a reputation of theft from tourists. We walked to the mountain and then caught the hop on hop off bus to view the city (without hopping off). Great restaurants around the suburb too and safe to walk around. The only word of warning if booking is that the hotel is wonderfully restored and has creaky floor boards, which adds to the atmosphere. There is one unit on the bottom floor and we were afraid that our walking around the room upstairs may have kept the person underneath awake or woken them up.

They couldn't have been more attentive, making our stay feel like we were staying with friends. The garden courtyard available to guests is a very relaxing sanctuary enabling guests to unwind and chill out. Rooms are well equipped with comfortable beds and well appointed ensuits. Breakfasts are fantastic, with a large range natural food to cater for all tastes. We would definitely stay there again.

We walked to all the main sights - pleasant through the parks, and plenty of choices to eat nearby. The hotel was clean and quirky and we really enjoyed our welcome wine. Would definitely stay here again.

It was located in a safe neighbourhood a short walk to many restaurants. The staff could not have been more helpful and the breakfast was home cooked, the best we have enjoyed in a month of travels in South America. Highly recommended.

Hotel is located near vibrant Barrio Italia with many restaurants and bars close by. Note that our room did not have AC but was not an issue for us as air circulation was adequate and we spent no time in the room until evening.

The breakfasts were delicious and the 24hr tea/coffee bar was refreshing. We were walking distance to wonderful restaurants and other Santiago attractions such as Cerro San Cristobal.

The meals we had eating out on the patio were delicious and having French pressed coffee was so fun and good. - nyp2024 (2/5): Awful Customer Service - I will start by saying I like prefer boutique hotels and like to support small businesses over chains. That said, our stay at Carmenere was very unpleasant made worse by a staff that was inflexible, and without basic compassion. Upon (Friday) arrival at our 4 night stay, we learned that the portion of the city we were staying in would have its water cut off until Sunday morning. When you’re on vacation and on a romantic getaway, not being able to bathe or shower is a bit of a nonstarter. After all, we booked a hotel, not camping. Worth mentioning that I also booked a room for the night before we arrived so we could check in early in the morning when we arrived without incident. My husband and I were completely caught off guard by this news. I had contacted the hotel 5 business days before to get some recommendations and never heard back. The lack of responsiveness should have been my first red flag. The next few hours were very frustrating, as the on-site manager proceeded to: 1. Suggest we change our plans so that we would go on excursions during the days when there was no water. He insisted on this many times even after we explained that we were traveling with a group of 16 (the only ones staying in this hotel and in this predicament), and had fixed plans that we couldn’t change. And again, when you book a hotel, a basic expectations is running water. 2. Insist that this water outage caught them off guard. Upon talking to staff that other hotels, we learned that the town had known about the water situation well before our arrival. 3. Continued to gaslight us and insist that the situation was “not that bad” and that they would give us water bottles so that we would have access to water to clean ourselves. 4. Offer absolutely no compensation or solutions to help - again, we paid for the nights we were scheduled to sleep there + the extra night before we arrived. We ended up booking a different hotel nearby at a similar price point that had running water while the water was shut off. It was great, the staff was friendly, our room was so nice. Because the staff at Carmenere wouldn’t offer us any sort of financial compensation, we begrudgingly returned. And it just wasn’t pleasant. The rooms were old, small, very creaky floors, you could hear in between rooms. The breakfast was good, though - very fresh with a solid spread. I really wanted to like this hotel, but the way we were treated was honestly shocking and disappointing. I would not recommend staying here. The customer service was truly horrible.
- Drkeeney (10/5): Perfect location - Situated on the edge of Barrio Italia, the Carménère Hotel is ideally located for exploring the Centro Historico, Lastarria, and Bellavista. Hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly, assisting with all my travel needs including assistance with airport shuttles, car rental, and restaurant recommendations. The room was idyllic. A healthy breakfast started the day and unwinding in the wine cellar and on the back patio was perfect to end the day.

They go above and beyond to ensure you're comfortable and safe, and offer a tasty Chilean breakfast. The hotel itself is romantic, and rustic, bed and breakfast style, perfect for a stay close to all the main attractions while enjoying a safe neighborhood. And it's within walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and shops. There's just no A/C, fan only, but the room is clean and comfortable. Unfortunately I got sick during my time in Chile and they made sure I received medical attention and were more than accomodating with my dietary restrictions due to illness. I really recommend this hotel overall!

Hundreds of police and firemen could not control the thousands of rioters. This was very unsafe and dangerous, so I had to check out about 3 hours after arrival. I am requesting a full refund of my prepaid amount.

- Steve (10/5): - A quiet boutique hotel. Although you can hear the guests when they enter and leave their rooms, the hotel caters to the more mature type of person so hallway noise is minimal. The staff were always helpfull and not intrusive. There were good restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes walk and the centre of town was an enjoyable 15 to 20 minutes walk via a very nice park. It was a great place to relax with a very homely feel. The courtyard and wine cellar were also great places to chill out. You had to wait a few minutes for the hot water to start and it also helps if you turn the tap to "hot" not "cold" like me. Breakfast was adequate and filling and the plunger coffee was good. I stayed there twice in April 2018 and found the rear room that faced the courtyard was quieter than the front room that faced the road however traffic was minimal at night and I had a good night's sleep in both rooms. All in all a great place to stay in Santiaglo.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Traveler Beware - lots of ways to get your money. - I paid $90 extra to write this review. Hidden in the hotel's policies is that it is an adult only hotel. I did not see it so my mistake. The hotel charged $75 for the baby to stay on a layover stay. At checkout the staff charged me $102 more then the $75 extra. The problem was resolved but if I hadn't checked my CC I would have paid. Next the hotel charged us $15 because of a broken iPad cord. We travel all over the world and if we break something we always inform the hotel. I felt like the hotel was just trying to pass on any charges they could. We barely had time to sleep on our one night stay and definitely we did not break the cord. In addition, restaurants in the area were snotty. My recommendation is to just go to a more reputable place. Finally, I really wanted to give this place high marks as I usually do but I figure I paid for this "priveledge".

- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful hotel with a great garden. - We had a great stay at the Carmenere Eco Hotel. The room was comfortable, 3 of the 4 staff we met were really helpful and attentive and breakfast was tasty and filling. The garden was a welcome refuge from the heat spell Santiago was experiencing while we were there. I would have given the room comfort a five if it had had air conditioning, but as it was an eco hotel, it didn't, which made for some trouble sleeping. Overall, a very good experience.
- Becky (10/5): Wonderful! - I enjoyed our brief stay here very much. The staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. We were greeted by Monica who immediately made us at home while we waited for the room to be ready. The whole hotel is well kept and comfortable. The room was also wonderful; the only suggestion here would be to fix the ceiling fan so it isn't so loud. We had the room with the terrace which was so nice to sit in back with a bottle of the Carmenere wine they had in their wine cellar and a cheese plate. The courtyard out back is very peaceful and breakfast had all you could want.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst hotel in 3 our weeks in South America - Not worth the hassle. Our room did not get cleaned by housekeeping because the staff thought we were in it. No one knocked to find out if this assumption was true (it was not) so after a day of sightseeing we came home to unmade beds. Staff insisted we were in the room. Finally we convinced them to comp our transfer to the bus station only to be taken to the wrong bus station AFTER providing them with our ticket and transfer info. Otherwise, breakfast buffet always looked old but the pancakes and eggs made to order were good.Coffee is only free in the AM otherwise there is a charge. You can do so much better.

- Mark (10/5): Charming - Beautiful - Superior Staff - The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood but close to two subway stations. The hotel is very pretty with a wine cellar and beautiful, comfortable courtyard. We loved the location but what really made our stay special was the staff. Everyone spoke excellent English and rushed to answer every question. As we left every day they made sure we knew where we were going and offered excellent dining and sight seeing suggestions. The breakfast provided was excellent and became a highlight of each of the seven mornings we spent at the hotel. The hotel arranged airport pick up and also allowed a very early check in the first day for a small fee. If they could have provided any better service I do not know how. This was an absolutely superior boutique hotel experience. If we ever return to Santiago there is no question we will be back.

A grand and gracious old home, friendly, super-efficient team members who are all at least bi-lingual, a location that's fantastic, good breakfast, all day coffee and snacks bar, welcoming wine...a great discovery and our new must-stay in Santiago...it's the total package!

The hotel is charming, the rooms quaint and the breakfast plentiful. The hotel is a little noisy as it feels more like a B & B than a hotel. The location was convenient with an amazing Peruvian restaurant close by. Highly recommend this hotel.

English was widely spoken, staff were very helpful and breakfast was good. The location was also close to other amenities and situated in an elegant neighbourhood. I could easily go back.
- Kelsey (10/5): Amazing stay, with exceptional costumer service - This was one of two hotels that my husband and I stayed at during our trip to Santiago. The location was excellent being a 15 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas (cultural centre) and a short sub way trip to Providencia (shopping) and a 5 minute walk to Bellavista (restaurant hub). The staff were so accommodating, friendly and incredibly helpful. They greeted us at our taxi and offered complimentary cheese and wine on our arrival. They were incredible attentive at breakfast and always made sure we were comfortable and had all we needed, often making bookings for restaurants and tours as our Spanish was limited. On our departure we had a flight scheduled at 10pm, the staff told us that we could have complimentary check out and said we could stay as late as we wanted (as we were a Expedia VIP+ booking). This made a possible very long day comfortable and relaxed. Could not recommend the staff and this hotel high enough.
- Lynne (10/5): Wonderful place to stay in Santiago - This is a beautiful boutique hotel. We were treated incredibly well. Kati in particular did a great job greeting us and setting us up with places to check out while in Santiago. Breakfast was delicious and the property beautiful. Nice and quiet but close by to lots of wonderful things to see in the city. LOVED THIS PLACE.
- Weiss of Course (10/5): A luxurious stay in Santiago - My husband and I recently travelled to Chile and had the opportunity to stay at various properties in Santiago as well as other cities. Without question, our stay at Carmenere eco Hotel was the highlight of our entire trip. From the attentive customer service to the thoughtfully curated amenities, we fell in love with all this boutique hotel had to offer. We arrived late in the evening after returning from Easter Island, and felt pampered by the knowledgeable staff from the moment we stepped in the door. Katerina, Willmar, and Paul provided wonderful recommendations for restaurants and quaint neighborhoods to explore (Barrio Italia) as well as transportation tips (metro, arrangements for taxis), and were attentive without being intrusive/overbearing. Given our Spanish is far less than stellar, we appreciated the staff's excellent English and translation assistance. The hotel offers 5 beautiful rooms in a gorgeous 1930s building complete with a private wine cellar, courtyard and 24 hour coffee/treat station with organic cakes, fruit and assorted goodies. Our room was quiet, spacious and meticulously clean, with luxurious linens and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom had ample hot water (solar heated water) and good water pressure in the shower. The courtyard garden is beautifully landscaped with intimate sitting areas perfect for relaxing with a good book or a glass of wine. Carmenere eco Hotel offered the most memorable and pampered experience of all our travels.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Like staying with extended family - The hotel staff was so wonderful and attentive to our needs. Whenever they saw us they would acknowledge us by name and always have a smile on their face. There are only 5 rooms so it felt more like a bed and breakfast. When we would ask for assistance with a restaurant or excursion they were knowledgeable and would offer to book a reservation and call a taxi for us. Although our room faced the residential street, we would hear cars drive by, but they were minimal. They're a little new so some taxi drivers didn't know their location. It is a wonderful location though, easy to walk to the grocery store, ATM and restaurants. I felt safe and our excursion drivers commented that it is a great area in Santiago to be staying in. The breakfasts were fresh and nourishing and they have a wine cellar where you can buy a glass or bottle of great wine and sit in their lovely garden. If I ever travel to Santiago again I will hope that Carmenere Eco Hotel will have an available room for me!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming, cozy & chic! - Not knowing what to expect in Santiago we were thrilled to be warmly welcomed at the Carmenere. They had suggestions on what to do so we could have stayed longer.... great safe location to walk around too. It's a very tasteful charming mix of rustic and renovated ambiance, really nice terrace in the back to hang out and have a sip... did I mention they have a wine cellar??? All around simply beautiful!!!
- Tim (8/5): Very clean, quaint property - I chose this hotel as an alternative to the big commercial ones I normally stay. I was pleased the room was ready early as my flight from the US arrived at 845 am and I was ready for a rest and shower. The staff is amazingly helpful. Attended and offered to help with anything. The room was one of five, but to the front of the hotel. All was good during the day, but being late summer, it was warm and the window needed to be open. At night, the noise from cars and work in the neighborhood resonated through the open window. I would either stay in a back room or opt for this property in cooler times. The parking is limited to one space, or you have to find something in the area.

- Sonya M (8/5): Beautiful hotel. But no air-conditioning. - Darling hotel, staff awesome, food great, but sadly hotel lacked air-conditioning. We had an upper room facing the street and had to keep the window and drapes open due to the lack of air-conditioning. Unfortunately, we had a bright light shining into our room, occasionally a dog barked and cars drove by.
- fussytraveller (10/5): Beautiful boutique hotel with wonderful service - The hotel is beautifully renovated and the multi-lingual staff are very attentive. There is wonderful juices, coffee, and other refreshments on offer all day (all organic). The hotel is well located on a beautiful tree lined street, away from the main hustle and bustle but within walking distance of the centre.
- Lori (10/5): Lovely little hotel on a quiet street. - We arrived very late in the evening and were greeted by the manager and quickly checked in.Our room was on the second floor.It was very cozy and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a nice combo of fruit,cheeses and meats.We were also offered eggs,which we declined.They had a coffee station which also had several freshly squeezed juices and different teas.Perfect. I can't say enough about the staff.Whether it was ordering taxis,recommendations for touring,or helping to find an English language movie,they were all friendly and ready to tackle any situation.It made staying there so much more pleasurable. The location is great.We like hotels in quiet residential areas and Carmenere fit the bill,especially if you like to open a window at night. We really enjoyed Santiago and we had a great stay at The Carmenere Hotel.
- Mark (10/5): Excellent hotel for couples or single travelers. - My wife and I stayed here for ten nights and everything about our stay was excellent. The staff are amazing, and will go out of their way to help the hotel guests in any way that they can. They speak English, as well as Spanish, so there is no language barrier. They set up a lot of day trip tours for us and those came off flawlessly. The hotel is in a great, safe, location, near many great restaurants and the Metro line. We walked all around the area. Their breakfast that is included with the room is wonderful. The garden area in the back is a great place to relax after a day of touring. We'd stay here again without even looking at other options. Truly one of the best places that we've ever stayed at. One note, this hotel is perfect for couples or single travelers. Those travelers taking a family should look elsewhere.

Staff were very friendly and helpful - more so than in any other hotel we stayed in in South America. It's an oasis of calm with its lovely garden, spacious rooms and attractive eating and sitting areas.
- Jerry (10/5): An Excellent Hotel Near Embassy Row - A great staff and a beautiful hotel in the heart of the city and with a Metro station within easy walking distance. A good breakfast was provided and a fairly substantial selection of free snacks were in the room. A free glass of wine was provided late in the day and I really enjoyed drinking that while relaxing in the beautiful garden. The bed was very comfortable and the room was in great shape. The main drawbacks were creaky floor boards and a solar water heating system that took about two minutes to provide hot water on a very cloudy day. Due to a cut cable in the neighborhood the internet was down for many hours but the speed seemed very high when it was up.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 6 Stars - If I could give the Carmenere Eco Hotel 6 stars I would. The staff was absolutely incredible! Their recommendations on activities in and around Santiago were everything I was looking for, and if you find something you're interested in doing, they'll make the reservation. The hotel is quaint and cozy. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're in Santiago.
