- kevin (1/5): Very disappointing, stayed before , it has declined! I spoke with the manager about my concerns . Not even offered a dr - Location
Car parking price£30 a night!!
Staff pretty unhelpful
Food in the bistro very average Location
Comfortable beds
- Hannah (9/5): -
- Ohri (5/5): Twenty years on the private equity investors need to get their cheque books out and refurbish this joint - Looking tired and need of upgrade Poor parking facilities
- Dep (9/5): -
- Joan (10/5): I’ll definitely be coming back - Excellent location for exploring Cambridge . Very welcoming and supportive staff.
- Lorraine (8/5): A very pleasant stay - I like the location, being so close to the centre of Cambridge yet being quiet .
I like the restaurant , the breakfast is very good . There is no reading light in the bedroom
- Cate (10/5): Beautiful accommodation & great location - Beautiful bedroom and bathroom, spacious, spotless & supreme. Really helpful reception staff member (sorry I did not take his name!) who sorted out non-feather bedding for us in the evening after the hotel had missed this allergy related advance booking request. Wonderful breakfast selection No complaints!
- Sparey (5/5): -
- John & Barbara (9/5): Comfortable and helpful staff. - Old-world character. Spacious size of the room.
- Valery (7/5): Good - Location A/C did not work properly
- Dan (5/5): - Comfortable room, Room showing signs of age, sink and bath not free draining, light switches not working, not enough electric scockets, food and drink over priced and breakfast poor quality.
- Sruthanach (8/5): Comfortable convenient hotel marred by unreliable breakfast service - I have stayed at this hotel regularly for many years. It is a hotel with character, comfortable rooms, friendly staff and a good bar. Breakfast is OK but both the food quality and the speed of service have been deteriorating for some time. On this visit, despite the breakfast room being almost empty and the (visible) kitchen clearly being well staffed, our cooked breakfast took an age to arrive. Both the kippers and the fried egg had clearly been kept under heat for some time - the yolk on the fried egg was partly hard. This is a shame considering how good the hotel is in all other respects.
- Rebecca (7/5): Room fine, staff good, breakfast not great. Beware the ‘no room cleaning’ option. - The room was fine. The staff were really thoughtful, and the place was decent. The breakfast wasn’t great. The continental option was poor, and the cooked food was not at all good. I was asked if I wanted to forgo daily cleaning for ecological reasons. I (to my surprise) received a drinks voucher in return, but what it actually meant was they didn’t service my room at all, which - when I was staying three nights - was slightly poor. Simply making the bed and replenishing used glasses etc without a full clean was what I thought I was agreeing to, and what - to be honest - would have been more acceptable.
- Ye eun (5/5): A ghost of what used to be a decent, smart hotel. - No amenities, no staff in the hotel, broken appliances. Had to carry our luggages to our room because the staff had to run back to the reception. Our lamp was broken and the answer we’ve got was that there was no maintenance staff. The outdoor spaces like cigar den and balconies have been abandoned and not taken care for a long while.
- Glen (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): A real treat. - Wonderful staff who looked after us very well. Clean, comfortable, thoughtful room. £25 per night for our one well behaved, clean Dog was excessive. We bought our own duvet cover so created no mess, no extra expense and it was a lot of money for that service.
- Gina (7/5): Good hotel within easy walking distance of Cambridge centre - The property was well located, within easy walking distance of the train station and city centre. The staff were wonderful, providing a warm welcome, storing our luggage after check-in, and quickly resolving an early, minor issue with the room. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a great sized bathroom and storage. The selection of tea’s was particularly good and the complimentary water was appreciated. The room had a few minor issues, which I wouldn’t expect at this price - a broken lamp, a couple faulty dimmer switches, and ripped bedding. The staff were quick to resolve an early issue, when raised.
- Kimberley (7/5): Great comfortable stay - Eco option for cleaning Cobwebs in the cabin, sound of the water system
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Kamelia (9/5): -
- Susanne (5/5): Okay but too expensive for what was on offer - Central and a comfortable bed Dated and a little run down. The room was musty and we had to open the window all night to air.
- Craig (6/5): - Reception staff excellent Staff in the restaurant during breakfast were not friendly / polite - hot food was average at best. Could not properly control heat in the room, so was very hot all night.
- Jean (6/5): -
- Syeda (10/5): It was a lovely getaway and the location was perfect. Good restaurants near by. Plus great breakfast - Great breakfast. Great distance to centre and shops
- Hart (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Nick (8/5): Beautiful hotel in a perfect location, that needs a bit of a spuce up given the amount they charge. -
- Kate (10/5): Relaxing and very comfortable stay! - Beautiful hotel with lots of lovely features. In an ideal location in the centre of Cambridge. Really friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to make our stay really pleasant. Nothing!
- Linda (8/5): A lovely stay but it could have been a little more comfortable. - Close to the city and the visits and activities that we went on. The room was a little cold even trying to adjust the air conditioning. The windows although had heavy curtains there was no blinds so you could see into the bedroom.
- Josie (8/5): Classy comfortable hotel in good location - shame about the gloomy decor in the rooms. - Hotel du Vin is a high-spec chain, and this is a comfortable upmarket place to stay, in an excellent location, with an elegant restaurant and very helpful staff on the front desk. Rooms at the back are quiet. Hotel du Vin's decor used to have a very classy heritage feel, (and the restaurant still does), but unfortunately the last design-makeover here involved painting the bedrooms a dark sludge brown which is really depressing! The bathroom floors are black, in a flooring material that looks like tiny tiles with crevices between them to trap the dust.
It's disappointing to find a hotel of this quality not including breakfast in the room rate (the food is generally very good, though fruit salad portions are tiny and fresh loaves have been replaced by sliced bread). From a window table, the window boxes outside look rather uncared for.
I didn't dine in the restaurant this time, as vegan options for the friend I was dining with are extremely limited.
- Richard (8/5): Plush, period and good value… - Old worldie, period features. Clean and comfortable. Great staff. Fabulous roll top bath and monsoon shower in the room. Lovely suite No parking. The car park that was provided is a5 minute walk. Which was fine in warm dry weather. But I could imagine a pain in wet weather.
- Priyanka (10/5): Amazing - Location for my course
It’s opposite the Dyson building of engineering
Kalpana and Pranay at the front desk have been very very good and whenever I needed anything, they both made sure it got sorted and done very quickly very professional No room numbers
- Jane Priscilla (9/5): Beautiful hotel with a traditional atmosphere - Centrally located and nice walk into town. Old world architectural feel We enjoyed it all
- Andrew (10/5): A fantastic place to stay. Beautiful and unique property, wonderful staff, great location - A wonderful property, really beautiful architecture and super comfortable. Fantastic location... Quiet but just a quick walk to downtown Cambridge.
- Anthony (6/5): - Location Poor breakfast. Very average service
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Stylist and well located hotel. Very friendly staff.
- KARN (10/5): Always welcoming staff & we were upgraded to a lovely room. - Beautiful property & close to the city centre Nothing
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Anne (6/5): - The hotel is nice
The location is good Liked everything
- Lorraine (7/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): Great location, great room - Great room Breakfast should be included
- Nancy (6/5): Fine - Our room was large and comfortable but shabby. The location is very convenient to the historic center of town. We were unable to use the bar or bistro during our stay due to a previously scheduled event. This was not made known to us until after we had booked a non-refundable stay. The room needed updating, we particularly noticed a lack of accessible electric outlets.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- hannah (9/5): Big rooms and tasty breakfast. Staff very helpful with our toddler. - Big rooms and tasty breakfast. Very helpful staff with our toddler.
- Gill (3/5): Disappointing - Rooms were comfortable, staff were really friendly Parking was difficult and expensive, and the pre-arranged parking at the Hilton was not informed until check-in which was too late. Bar closed at 10, no food after nine, no breakfast before eight. One of our rooms was not serviced at all. Not good enough for a business stay.
- Laura (8/5): - Very comfortable rooms, great location lovely restaurant
- Fiona (5/5): Convenient location. - Location near to city centre. No warning that hotel had so many steps, particularly steep up to front door! Noisy room with some sort of large machine outside and inability to open window for any fresh air. Disappointed that an expensive hotel with large room had no comfortable chair. Also curtain off its hooks.
- Sangeetha (9/5): Great hotel, rooms and lovely location! - Great hotel, rooms and lovely location!
- Anon (8/5): - Great room, comfortable bed. Restaurant so so.
- Aksana (10/5): - A very beautiful hotel with a carefully thought-out interior in a vintage style. An atmospheric hotel with character. A very comfortable bed. A large bathroom with both a bathtub and a shower cabin. The room includes tea, coffee, water, and even some sweets. Very carefully designed. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
- Jaka Vatovec (8/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Ysanne (8/5): Very relaxing and pleasant hotel close to the centre of Cambridge. - The room was pretty and there was a lovely handwritten note welcoming us to the hotel along with chocolates. There was water and tea and coffee facilities as you'd expect. The bed was very comfortable and there were extra pillows, which was good. It was a shame that the bar and restaurant were not open but the hotel let us know in plenty of time that they had a function (wedding) so we could make other arrangements.
- natasha (8/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Comfortable room and good facilities - Comfortable and good location Breakfast was expensive!
- Lindsay (8/5): -
- Akbar (10/5): -
- Ronnie (10/5): Amazing would definitely stay again - I loved how big the room was , great location and lovely staff I found the cinema suite seats uncomfortable but a great addition to the room
- Catharina (10/5): -
- Helen (8/5): -
- Ibtisam (10/5): شكرا للتعامل الراقي - ممتاز جدا عدم توفر شطاف
- Helen (10/5): A lovely 3 night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. - It was warm and comfortable. Situated very close to tithe Fitzwilliam museum . It doesn’t have parking.
- Henry (10/5): Excellent stay really lovely hotel in a perfect location - Fabulous location with wonderful decor and excellent staff. The breakfast was a little disappointing in terms of choice and quality.
- Peter (10/5): -
- Jim (8/5): Lovely hotel with character - The staff and breakfast The stairs system can be quite confusing
- Mie (10/5): - Stemningen, indretningen, beliggenheden, maden og personalet. Alt var top klasse. Kommer meget gerne igen.
- Karen (10/5): Excellent! - Location great! Very comfortable good location
- PAUL (6/5): - It just feels tired and need of a refurb
- JNW (9/5): A superb location for a very comfortable stay in Cambridge, with helpful staff - The reception was very friendly and helpful, check in was very easy
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable
The building is beautiful and very conveniently located
Nice to have a bathrobe supplied!
The breakfast was lovely
- John (10/5): Excellent - Very good overall. Really nice breakfast and fab room Fan heated was loud in room
- Lorraine (8/5): A pleasant and relaxing stay. - I like the bedroom and bathroom, well equipped, comfortable, quiet and everything is easy to use.
I like the restaurant, the food is very good and I like the fact that they have grilled kippers for breakfast which are cooked excellently. My bedroom heating didn’t work so I was given a portable electric radiator.
- Nikki (10/5): A dream come true!
(I've wanted to stay at HDV for nearly 20 years) - Everything! The staff were lovely and very helpful, the room was stunning (I squeaked when I walked in), the location is opposite the museum, so very central, and the bar was gorgeous. We had some delicious cocktails down there. Nothing at all. Couldn't find fault anywhere.
- Andrew (10/5): - Charming space, very lovely and friendly staff Nithing, great place!
- Mary (8/5): - Very handy for the city centre and the Fitzwilliam Bar and bistro both closed in the afternoon.
- Anne (7/5): - Central location
The hotel had a bit of character and ambience which
felt just right for cambridge
The staff were pleasant and polite My room was hard to find
It was behind a door and I had to keep asking for directions
It was also a bit hard to book
I wanted to book for two nights, and had to submit two different bookings, one night had breakfast included, the other one didn't
- Lee (4/5): Disappointing. We have come to expect an excellent service from Hotel du Vin, but not in Cambridge - The reception staff and bar staff were very friendly. Was lacking in the luxury we expect from Hotel du Vin. The room was in the attic which was difficult for two tall people, and the safe didn't work. The bistro was not as good as we have had in the past at Hotel du Vin - the menu has lost its god veggie/ vegan dishes. We couldn't get bar food on the Saturday (despite menus being out), and the explanation was disappointing - there was an event on. I accept events have to happen, but it shouldn't impact guests who have paid a lot to stay at a expensive luxury hotel
- Helen (9/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Amy (9/5): -
- Collette (9/5): Chap on reception (possibly Josh, sorry!) was really helpful!! -
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Trevor (9/5): -
- christine (5/5): Not Happy - That I was accepted very late The bedroom was uncomfortable ...The bed base was to big for the matress and I stubbed my tore several times (it hurt)
And the entrance floorwise
was dangerous (small step or
flat would have been better)
- s (10/5): Awesome - Location
Cleanliness
Spacious room
- Hugh (8/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): -
- Valerie (7/5): A great place for a one night stay. - Great location Overall the decor and style of the hotel is aimed at a younger crowd (we are in our 60's) - we found it a bit tacky, focussing on 'drunk after the ball' scenes.
Hard to find the room. Help with suitcases would have been appreciated. The room was awkward but comfortable.
The meal was pleasant but nothing more.
The billing was wrong and we were charged double - this was sorted out however when we pointed it out.

- Hancu (10/5): -
- Jennings (10/5): Stunnng hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful - Beautifully decorated.
- Rikke (8/5): -
- Zoe (9/5): -
- Jonathan Edward (10/5): - Charming small boutique hotel. Lovely staff who work every hard w respect to ensure a delightful stay. No view particularly but rooms are charming
- Rebecca (10/5): Overall had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning - Beautiful room. Great bar area. Fabulous staff The only slight downside is there is no parking and it’s expensive to park in the hotel next door so we parked out of town which was a bit of a faff
- Craig (7/5): Nicely appointed large rooms, great location - Large room, quirky The restaurant is a disaster, bar too
- Rachel (6/5): A good visit however don’t use the restaurant if you have dietary requirements - Great location Even with notice, the restaurant was hopeless in catering for allergies. All food is prepared off site and brought in. I can only assume they do not employ chefs!
