- Matthew (8/5): - am writing to formally raise my concerns regarding my recent stay at your hotel. Unfortunately, my experience fell far below the standard I expected, and I feel compelled to request either another stay or a refund. The issues began when the blind pull cord in my room broke. The response time to fix this was slow, and what should have been a quick resolution turned into a major disruption. Initially, I was told I would be moved to another room, so we packed up our belongings. However, instead of being moved, staff entered the room with ladders to attempt repairs. This was both unprofessional and intrusive, particularly as I had to explain to them how the blind should be fixed. On returning later that evening, I expected to find the room reset, blinds drawn, and bed turned down, but this was not the case. The sofa in the room was also in an unacceptable condition, with heavy staining that made it unsuitable for use. Frankly, it is not of a standard I would expect to find in any hotel, let alone for the price I paid. While I understand renovations may be ongoing and note that a couple of complimentary drinks were offered, these do not address the fact that the room itself was not up to standard and the service was poorly managed. Given the above, I believe it is reasonable to request either a refund or the opportunity to return for another stay under improved conditions. I hope you will take this matter seriously and provide a prompt resolution.

- James (6/5): - I was just expecting more I think. The room felt very tired and dated, although the room was large, it was dark and not very welcoming. All the fixtures and fittings were tired around the edges, and quite dusty. The bathroom was large and the shower huge and to be fair was all very clean. Toiletries etc lovely touch. Bed very comfortable and I slept well. I just think as I say, the room I was in was tired and nothing special. I only stayed for one night and if I had been staying any longer I think I would have been quite disappointed.
- John (6/5): - Unfortunately our stay was a little disappointing for this standard of establishment. It was lovely to get upgraded to a junior suite and receive a complimentary drink in the bar. The room was starting to look a bit tired, but the bed was comfy and its always nice to find some fresh milk in the fridge. We had dinner in the restaurant where we both has the Entrecote Steak, whilst mine was no better than ok my wife's was mostly fat and gristle in all honesty not acceptable considering they are £35 each. But to be fair they removed Mel's steak from the bill without argument. So all-in-all not an unpleasant stay but not really upto the standard we have come to expect from Hotel du Vin.

- Mohammed (4/5): - Stayed in room Taylor Port for 1 night with my wife. Room was fine, but the bathroom was a disgrace. Stains in the toilet and sink, while the shower dispensed only very hot water on the coldest setting. I call it a shower despite it being a fixed shower head from above and not the handheld ones, which most hotels have - not to mention it wasn’t a standalone shower but combined with the bathtub. I was so disappointed I checked out early and stayed in the hotel down the road, namely Grand Hotel. I’ve stayed in HDV at least 20 times, but based on my recent experience I shall not be returning.

- Julie (10/5): Excellent city centre hotel in quiet location - Lovely hotel in great position for theatres, restaurants etc. All Hotel de Vin are in quirky buildings this being the old eye hospital so do not expect your normal rooms. Our room was very large & the bathroom enormous with the largest shower I have ever seen along with a glorious deep free standing bath. Very comfortable, excellent bed linen & toiletries. Staff extremely pleasant.

- Alexander (8/5): If 4.9/5 was an option I'd rate it that. - So yes I would recommend Hotel du vin, with a few caveats First, the room was lovely, bed was very comfy, and the staff where amazing! Full 5 star treatment. Lovely furnishing, and overall a really nice hotel. The reason it's not 5 stars from me, the toilet handle wasn't working, you had to pump it to get it to flush and it felt like it may break when you did pump it. The toilet seat wasn't placed right so when you sat on the toilet you would get knocked in the back with it. It was quite funny, or at least we laughed about it, but not ideal and not what I would expect from a suite. The overall comfort level was high, and the bed could sleep 5 with how big it was. Extremely comfy. shower head was at a funny angle so I had to stand really close to the shower dial, which defeats the point of having a massive walk in shower but still a great room, the air freshener flashed blue at night so it was like having a mini police car in the room, once again we did laugh about this and it was simple enough to just unplug it. The main issue we had is on the last night we returned quite late from our day out and took the lift back to the 3rd floor, when we got to the second floor the lift stalled on 2 then the screen flashed, lift failure!! We both look at each other in a panic then laughed, as we reach for the call button the lift shuddered and started back up and reached the final floor. This is in no way the staff or hotels fault, so my advice is to take the stair!! 4.9/5, thanks hdv
- Claire (10/5): - Great hotel, comfortable, bathrooms nice and big. great location- fabulous wine! Downside- room was too hot, no option to turn heater off which needs addressed. Breakfast needs improvement- not the selection but functionality - I think chef was having an off day :)

- Simon (6/5): Lack lustre customer service. - After negotiating a very heavy stiff front door we were greeted by a very underwhelming welcome. We explained we were early and would like to leave our bags. The receptionist took my detail and issued us with bag tags. We went away and came back and the same receptionist had forgotten us and the exchange we had literally 3 hours previously. We finally got to the room which was lovely except no heating in the bathroom or shower gel in the dispenser. I mentioned this to reception on check out and was given a half hearted apology…. On a plus the staff in the bar were excellent !! It’s a shame that you use this site and use your points to treat yourself and the hotel looks down on you… also no breakfast included with the stay… poor value for money on something that should of been a lovely experience

- Phillip (4/5): Hotel not living up to the Hotel Du Vin Brand Name - Reserved a luxury room with breakfast. Two out three lamps in room did not work. Shower sealant worn, dirty and needs replacing. Problem with plumbing. No hot water. Shower ran cold. No apologies.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was excellent, reception very helpful and informative however what let the hotel down was the breakfast. We had to ask on numerous occasions for tea and coffee as the coffee machine had run out, followed by a half a cup of lukewarm coffee and then it took 10 minutes to find breakfast teabags. My choice of breakfast was avocado on toast- the toast was so soggy it was inedible and the poached egg was going towards the hard side - pretty grim. Is this due to being a Monday morning when most chefs have a day off ?
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel is beautiful but in real need of refurbishment. The heating doesn't work properly and the noise from the ventilation systems makes it very hard to sleep. The thermostats aren't controllable from the rooms so it's impossible to stop the noise overnight. Breakfast was ok but not up to normal Hotel du Vin standard, with a long wait before orders were taken and staff not noticing when the stock of clean cups ran low and the urn ran out of water. On a positive note, the maintenance team attended and organised a room change very promptly when incredibly hot water kept running out of the cold water tap! I stayed as part of a group and all of us experienced separate issues, so unfortunately this wasn't a one off. It's a real shame as the building is beautiful but in urgent need to better upkeep.
- Peter (2/5): Very Poor Conditions - It was awful, the heating was not working, two small oiled filled radiators were insufficient, no extra blankets for the bed so I used two bathroom towels to cover the bed in able to sleep. Service was very poor but the staff were kind, made every effort and did their best under the circumstances. The Dining area was not up to standard with a buffet lunch with no napkins or butter available. The tea & coffee facilities were poor for a business meeting. This hotel is not in a good state of repair, the meeting room was cold because the air conditioning only produced cold air. This hotel is way below European standards and the room charge was high. I was not offered any compensation whilst my colleague was waived his room charge.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Warm and comfortable with good central location - Our deluxe room was warm with a very comfortable bed and bedding. The bathroom was a good size with a bath and a shower with a large head. The towel rail was on so the towels were warmed. Unfortunately the water was tepid when we wanted to shower in the morning. On contacting reception we were told that hot water would be available in an hour, too late for us. However, on checking out we were refunded 50% of our stay charge so felt that was very fair. Dinner in the bistro was very good although service charges for both food and drink rather steep.

Unfortunately o e of the blinds in our room was broken meaning we couldn't block out the light from the permanently illuminated office block opposite which was a bit annoying. I would use the hotel again though as the blind was only a minor blip

Other hotels we have stayed in have included what ever is in the chiller The bath room shelf..put something on it and it fall off on straight..

- Ian (8/5): Pretentious - Pretentious to the max. There are no room numbers, all rooms are referred to as a vineyard or bodega name. Birmingham city centre is expensive, this hotel is no exception. Very grand descriptions don't make things worth more. Expect to pay bottle price per glass for pretty average wines. £20 for a flavourless croque monsieur. All a bit annoying.

- Clodagh (6/5): Not quite what we were expecting - When we arrived at the hotel, we were impressed by the elegance of the foyer and the lovely staff member on reception who was welcoming and informative. However, when we entered our room, myself and my partner were disappointed. It looked incredibly tired and in need of an update. Two of our lights did not work, despite trying many plugs and as we were only there for one night we did not want the hassle to ask reception to organise for them to be fixed. There was also only one small bottle of water that we had to share; surely there should be at least two bottles? All in all, myself and my partner were not overly impressed by the appearance and standards of the room and we were expecting a lot more from a well reviewed hotel.

Shower was big and water pressure good with plenty of hot water. We didn’t eat at the hotel as there were so many restaurants & cafes nearby. Within walking distance of shops and attractions. The staff at reception and in the bar were friendly and polite. Received a discount when parking at B4 car park about a 5 minute walk away. We would stay again if in Birmingham.

- Andrew (6/5): Great location but disappointed - Hotel location was perfect, advertised with parking but 3 spaces out the front which is next to impossible to get a space in peak times. multi story close by but with bags bit of a drag. Nosiey radiator rattling on arrival and was told they’d move us but didn’t because they’d “fixed” it… then came on from 2am until we checked out…. Little disappointed. Paid a lot for 2 nights and expected more.

- elaine (10/5): - The Hotel Du Vin is well located for shopping and restaurants. It has an excellent breakfast selection (we didnt dine in the evening so cannot comment). Staff were friendly, polite and knowlegeable.
- David (6/5): Score 3.6: not great, not terrible. - Not bad overall, probably expected more for a "deluxe" room (minibar, enough water to fill the kettle/Nespresso machine please, maybe a bit of sugar as well...!). Some signs of wear, one of the blinds broken, some damage to one of the window sills. Room itself was spacious, nice bathroom, just falls a bit short of expectation.
- Paul (10/5): - This was our second stay in this wonderful hotel the suite was amazing and the bathroom was the best I’d ever seen in uk close to all the restaurants and would recommend to anyone
- Satya (10/5): Fantastic hotel - This is a lovely characterful hotel. It has a great cocktail bar and breakfast was very good. The staff are very helpful and accommodating. Location was perfect for us as we were dining nearby. Very comfortable, spacious rooms.

- Ben (6/5): Trading on former glories - Feels a little bit tired now. Could do with a redecoration and some investment in the little luxuries that the room rate warrants. No mini bar in the room. Not even a bottle of water. Used to be a great hotel chain but now not worth the price tag now.
- Jack (10/5): Classy, comfortable and reliable - As you come to expect from Hotel Du Vin, the welcoming and attentive staff make the experience. Walking into the room you already feel like you’re in a special place, and our room didn’t disappoint. Very comfortable, well appointed and classical style. The only slight gripe was that our bathroom with roll top bath and walk through shower was a little cold - but when we casually mentioned this to the staff to suggest they check the heating, they struck off the drinks we had charged to our room as an apology, which was very unexpected.
- Allan (8/5): Our stay - We did enjoy the stay at the hotel with friendly and efficient staff. The bed was a little uncomfortable as it was not level.
- Paul (4/5): - Arrived at 2.45pm for a 3pm check in. Room was not ready had a a drink in the bar tried to check in again at 3.15 Room still not ready. Having a dinner appointment at 3.30pm elsewhere meant we could not change and freshen up for this appointment. Arrived back to the hotel at 5pm room still not ready. I had booked a signature suite not a standard room and expected a little more effort be made to get the room ready. Eventually got in to the room at 5.15pm. Although the hotel is very nice the service is very poor no reason given to why the room was not ready. The grand hotel just up the road eclipses the service received at this hotel.
- David (8/5): - The hotel staff are friendly. The bar is superb. Breakfast is very good. The communal areas are smart. However our bedroom and bathroom was very tired. The shower would not get hot just warm. The TV is too low to watch in bed. The bed was extremely comfortable.
- William (2/5): - Service at reception on arrival was poor. Room looked OK at first glance but for a "deluxe" room amenities limited. Room was starting to show it's age. Cold no matter what you changed heating to. Traffic noise too loud and was woken up by it throughout the night. Music was blaring from somewhere and bass vibration was felt until 5am. Couldn't work out if private function in hotel bar or from another room. Service in restaurant was terrible.
